Came from out of town and found this place for dinner. Very good, fresh food. Even my picky eating kids enjoyed the potstickers and Katsu chicken. Husband and I shared a dish; a little spicy, but still so very good! Our server brought out an amazing pickled radish and onion side to clean the palate. We ate every bite on all the plates. The Black Bean Noodles is the star **** of this place. Great flavor and the noodles are nicely al dente. Just something about when the food kisses the fire on the wok something magical happens to the flavor. The Sweet and Sour Pork was just ok. It had a hint of some kind of cinnamon flavor and the batter is not all that crispy. *Make sure you order the sauce on the side if you decide to order this.* The Fried Rice was just ok as well. The owner seated us and was our waitress. She did a fantastic job even though the restaurant was extremely busy (make sure you get there early to get a seat -- they are popular). She was kind and even comped our drinks! The food was incredible. I had the katsu which was crispy, not overly breaded, and served in a flavorful sauce with perfect white rice and a side salad. A great portion for $19. My fiancée got the beef soup which was super rich and delicious. It is clear that these people know what they are doing when it comes to food. The restaurant itself is small, but that allows them to focus on putting out really top notch food. For $40, this delicious food was HEAVILY worth the money. My friend recommended this restaurant to me since he told me they have really good Korean fried chicken. I tried the seafood jjambong and the kkanpungki fried chicken! The kkanpungki fried chicken had a good garlic flavor to it and had a perfect amount of heat. It was my first time eating Korean fried chicken and I expected some crunch to it but the batter around the chicken was a bit soft and chewy. The chicken also had some vegetables on the bottom so it was a nice balance to eat the chicken with the vegetables! The seafood jjambong came with a decent amount of seafood and the noodles had a slightly chewy texture to it, so tasted really good with the jjambong sauce. There was a picture of the jjambong on the outside of the restaurant so I expected the clams to be bigger than the ones that were actually in the soup. It looks like they used a different type of clam in the actual dish than the one in the picture. My mom really liked this one but I think I would have preferred to eat the jjajangmyun instead! This dish is probably good if you're craving for something spicy in soup. There were some dining tables outside so it was convenient to sit and eat there. Our order also came with some yellow pickled radishes too (I'm not sure if it came with the chicken or the jjambong, but I believe it came with the chicken). I never would've thought to find jjajjangmyeon (black bean sauce noodles), jjambong, and korean fried chicken in a restaurant called Wok'n Guys if not for the recommendation from my supervisor. These Asian/Korean dishes are not that easy to find in Portland or overpriced. I was greeted in Korean before the waiter even saw me, and most of the seated diners were Koreans, which was a great sign. The menu definitely focused on the above dishes as there were multiple flavor options for each. We got a regular jjajjangmyeon and kalpungi fried chicken. The jjajjangmyeon portion was generous, and while at first tasted like it was missing a kick of heat, once the fried chicken arrived the noodles actually was a great balancing dish to the spiciness of the chicken. At the end of the meal, they also provide complimentary yogurt drinks! We didn't understand the reasoning for the bad reviews unless you came expecting something else or ordered something that they don't specialize in (which you can tell just based on the menu). But it's a lovely gem and I can't wait to come back to have another bowl of jjajjangmyeon read more
