Pretty average in terms of jjajangmyun, but I come from a city where we have a whole route dedicated to korean cuisine. So it's a bit tough to beat that unless it's pretty darn good korean food. We were seated immediately despite it being a busy Saturday night. It took a while to get our orders placed, and even longer for our food to come out. They did let us know when we ordered that it may take a bit, which does lessen the annoyance of waiting terribly long. The food itself was average. My jjampbong was on the spicier side and I could tell they added lots of chili peppers compared to other restaurants. I appreciate the amount of vegetables and seafood in it, though, and there were an endless amount of noodles hidden beneath it. I also want to mention it's on the pricier side. I'm soooo happy I found this place. They have legit Ganpungi! It's basically deep fried pieces of chicken in a savory vinegar type sauce. So bomb! All the other places use chicken wings and they make it sweet. I've always had it savory and garlicky. The Jia Jiang was really good too! Plus, you kinda know it's legit when you see the korean grandmas and grandpa's bringing the grandkids. Takes me home.... The service was more than impeccable and I'm not say that to represent korean places. I don't look korean and always surprise people when they find out I'm korean and can speak. With the rainy weather, a hot bowl of soup was being craved and jjambong it was. The price starts out at 12.99 and goes up depending on if you want seafood jjambong (additional seafood like crab etc). The menu does seem to have a few changes since my last visit as well As it was a rainy day, hot barely tea was served which I appreciated and napkins + chopsticks already placed on tables. The food came out fast and the seafood was just right, mostly mussels and squid, one or two mini shrimp. The broth however wasn't spicy as I thought originally, a nice base that can be adjusted for spice. The service was spot on and the one employee working who was the hostess and server was all smiles and hardworking as I was leaving, the lunch rush was starting. After I ordered, she brought out a spoon (depending on what you order, supplies are given) and a side of yellow pickled radish. Also, checking in about the meal and getting the bill all sorted quick. I forgot to order extra portion on my Jajangmeyon and they didn't let me order extra noodles even when I explain I've been coming here for while for one specific dish. Which is really over priced, but I've been loyal to this restaurant for many years and I asked for extra noodles that I forgot to order and she didn't give a single fuck. Just overall dissatisfaction to the customer service as if they've never heard the saying "customers king" seriously I've been coming here for years always ordered double portion every time. After hard day of work I just made a mistake and she had to be stuck up about something simple as giving me extra noodles for more money. Dog shit service. Can't even make acceptation for long time customer who's hungry and is willing to pay. Bad business. Don't go. Too expensive as well. Not enough food. Too expensive. Looking for good Korean style Chinese food? Come here! Although it can be a little pricey- it's hard to find good Korean-Chinese food in the area! My go to's are their jjajangmyun (Black bean noodles with pork or beef), Seafood Jjambbong, and their tang soo yuk (pork and beef are both delicious)- this place never disappoints and you get that great wok fire taste in their food. When you dine in, they also provide a nice yogurutu drink as a dessert/service which is also very nice. The portions here are huge with lots of quality ingredients. I got the seafood noodle soup and there was a large portion of crab, shrimp, clams/mussels, and squid. The soup has the right amount of spice and lots of flavor! The noodles were not overcooked and had great texture. Had the basic trio - jjajamgmyun, jjampong, and tangsooyook. Jjajamgmyun flavor was the best. Reminded me of Korea. The seafood jjampong was good, but they put bamboo shoots in it and I personally don't like them so it kinda ruined it for me. I still ate the noodles and half of the soup. Still good, but not my favorite. Tangsooyook tasted like it might have bamboo shoots, too, though I didn't see them so I may be wrong about that. Good, but I've had better. I have found my Jjajang fix. Not many Korean restaurants offer this dish. They have good size portion at very decent pricing. I also tried the Jjabong as well which tasted interesting as it was my first time trying this dish, but I would order again in the future. They have some other interesting food on the menu that I would like to try when I come back again. read more

A local business owner said they make good Korean style Chinese foods such as jjam ppong, I tried it especially after seeing the pictures, I ordered the seafood jjamppong, when it came out it was sooooo spicy you cannot taste anything, the seafood was still uncooked and semi raw especially the crab It's supposed to be a seafood flavor but the seafood was inserted right before the noodle soup was served so the seafood was not cooked properly and didn't cook long enough to give it any flavor to the soup. Yes the presentation looks awesome but it's nothing without the taste to back it up, and the service quality is poor too. You can't see the smiling face behind the mask but the body language and lack of action speaks for itself loud and clear. However, the food options and the portion of each dishes were​ totally worth the price! Ate here on Aug 6 - there were two patio tables outside the restaurant since indoor dining was not available due to covid. They offered to bring out the orders in takeout containers to the outdoor tables which was so nice! We had jjajangmyun, seafood jjambbong, and beef tangsooyuk. Seafood jjambbong came with so much seafood including crab! Tangsooyuk was nicely fried, with crispy batter. I also liked that I didn't taste MSG in their dishes. Overall the food was good and solid but lacked on the umami flavors just a bit. I would still go back when I get the cravings for Korean Chinese food! read more

Service was super friendly and helpful, but the food leaves a bit to be desired. After having jajangmyeon in Los Angeles last year, I have been craving it here in Portland but haven't had any luck. However, I saw a photo on Yelp of Wok 'n Guys serving it, and figured I'd give it a try. The noodles were cooked just fine (though nothing spectacular,) but the sauce was very oily. I understand that it's Korean comfort food, but compared to the other place in Koreatown it was excessively oily. I paid $13 for my food and it felt expensive for what it was; I'd maybe give it another star if it was under $9. Service was very friendly and accommodating, I'm giving an extra star just for that. Their Seafood Jjambong was decent. They had a good amount of seafood for the price. Their spiciness level wasn't as spicy as I expected. I really enjoyed their pickled daicon, I dipped it into their spice they had readily available on the table and it tasted like candy. I enjoyed their customer service because we actually had a person in our party ask for mild in their seafood jjambong. As she was letting the soup cool down, the staff thought the soup was too spicy so they kept checking up on us to make sure it was edible for her. The prices were decent. This is the first time I've had the seafood jjambong. They had big portions. IMO, if I were to have Korean food I would try neighboring restaurants for the taste. After visiting and reading reviews I believe this place is extremely underrated. This is one of the best Korean/Chinese restaurants I've ever been. What makes this place special is because of the Spicy Jjambong. It's the best I've ever had, hands down. The technique of using the high heat wok to stir fry the vegetables before its dumped into the broth, is what makes this soup so different than others I have had before. It creates this multi layer flavor of spice and smoke, that is unlike any other Jjambong I have ever had. Although the Seafood Jjambong is most traditional, I think the star is the Beef Jjambong. The flavors were so deep and rich, its absolute must try when visiting. We also tried the Seafood Jjajang noodles, which was excellent as well. I would say it's on par with China Jade's version. It wasn't anything spectacular like I've had in Korea but it was still very tasty and consistent. If you go with multiple people order both Jjambong and Jjajang, the contrast of the two noodles make a great pairing of flavors. Another staple we had to order when eating at a Korean/Chinese restaurant was the Sichuan Pork Tangsooyuk, which is pretty much a spicy version of sweet & sour pork. And I'll tell you what it was incredible also. Perfect balance of crunch, spice and sweetness. It's a must buy when pairing with your noodles. This place just hit all the notes, and exceeded expectations for the Jjambong. Will definitely be back. read more

Korean spicy garlic fried chicken. One of my favorite Korean Chinese fusion dishes. Wok'n Guys does a fabulous job at preparing this dish. The way they do their sweet and sour, spicy sauce will get you on board to order this chicken dish by default every visit. It's a must order along with their super popular black bean sauce noodle dish. Super set made in heaven. Boneless puffs of chicken, lightly fried, with a nice glaze of garlic sauce and a red chili spicing that gives it an appropriate subtle kick. I like to call it the Korean version of orange chicken, but better, way better. I could Kkanpunggi it all day it's that good. One of those dishes that's hard to get sick of. You'll always have a taste for some Kkanpunggi. Here's a breakdown of the name: in Chinese - kkan translates to dry, pung = stir fry, and gi = chicken. I wouldn't have ever thought of trying this place out, just based on the name of the restaurant, for jjajangmyun. But my dad insisted, and it has really made me rethink the way I choose where to eat based on restaurant names. This isn't necessary information, but in case someone else goes through the same process when choosing where to eat, I'd recommend trying this place out. I don't know why people say the jjajangmyun here is average, as I've yet to find a place that's exactly like the ones in Korea. The jjajangmyun with tangsooyook was my favorite meal as a kid, and this place lets me relive it intermittently. I've always wanted to try out the korean fried chicken, kkanpoongi, and donkatsu, but in the end I just really want the black bean noodles and fried pork. Whoa guys, this place is great. The name - Wok' n Guys - might throw you off because it sounds so..Americanized. But when you check out the menu, they offer legit Korean and Korean/Chinese dishes. Black bean noodles, jjambbong, pork or chicken katsu, tangsooyook, etc. Sure, you're not going to get metal chopsticks, a million side dishes, or anything like that. But you WILL get quality food and great service at an incredibly reasonable price. We had requests for low sodium, extra pickled radishes, etc., and they were incredibly accommodating. Wok in the door and not one person even says welcome even tho the whole store is is empty except you and the 3 people who work there. I would think that for a brand new restaurant that has just opened that the employees would be up beat and ready to welcome and explain the concept to you. As for the food it could be a lot better and fresher. all the meat is pre-cooked ( there is no reasone to have pre-cooked meeat in woking) and the portions are small for the price. As the gal was putting the vegetables on top of the pre-cooked meat i was able to count how many pieces of broccoli (4 small ones) etc... The also offer tofu for the vegetarians but they cook the food in the same wok that they cook the meat products. IMO they should rename the restaurant to "re-wok pre-cooked food and guys". The Triangle of Quality states that you can have it Cheap, Fast, or Good. Pick two.Wok' n Guys seems to buck the trend by only picking one of those options. That is, the cheap option. On the plus side, it is a pretty huge portion that I don't always finish. My first visit was opening week. Being less then happy with the meal, and thinking "they're new, they're just working the bugs out," I went away satisfied and promptly forgot about it for several months. I've since then visited several more times and have had almost the same experience every single time. The girl at the counter takes my order with no problems. The guy at the wok starts cooking the meats and then realizes that he's out of noodles when he's almost done. So he turns the heat down on the meat portion, leaving it to simmer for the roughly eight minutes it takes to cook the noodles. He then spends another two to five minutes washing out the pan he just used while. After that he throws everything together and it sits on the counter waiting for final packaging by the girl working the counter. Usually for another five minutes. By the time I get the food the meat is very over cooked rubbery and seems to have almost no flavor left. Only the application of soy sauce and teriyaki sauce seems to save it. In short, it's a step above fast food. It's slightly healthier then fast food. It's in the same price range as fast food. It's got larger default portions then fast food. It takes longer to cook then fast food. But otherwise it's firmly in the category of being fast food. Go here if you're poor and hungry and just need anything to fill your stomach. Don't expect anything more then that. read more
