Called on Dec. 30 2025 for service on my freezing up heat pump, which was installed by Wolcott in Nov 2022 and is likely under warranty. Dispatcher was clearly an AI Bot. It mixed up everything when I said it was probably low on Freon, but Bot said it would have a tech on site betw 8AM and 4PM same day. I mentioned that it was currently 2 pm, and Bot corrected itself to '2 PM to 4PM'. Wolcott Tech texted me an hour later and explained he was currently on a job and could not make it, asked me to call back dispatcher and make a new appt. Called dispatcher (same AI Bot). Bot said it would have a tech on site betw 8AM and 4PM next day. Wolcott Tech texted me early next morning saying he was currently on a job and could not make it and asked me to call back dispatcher and make a new appt. Called dispatcher (got same AI Bot), said would have a tech on site betw 8AM and 4PM same day Next day had repeated identical texts from same tech saying he was currently on a job and could not make it, call dispatcher. Texts were all identical, and it looked like the tech was an AI Bot, too. Did Yelp search and found that older Wolcott reviews were great, but they got bad in middle of last year (maybe due to arrival of Bot). Gave up in frustration, House was freezing. Called Synergy Heating, they got tech out in 1 hr but charged me $477 to add 1 lb of freon and their 2 hr round trip commute @$200/hr. read more

Wolcott came out at my request to replace our water heater. Their name was on our 17 y/o heater that was installed when the home was built. Their guy (Anthony) spent 2 hours checking various things, and also sitting out of sight in his truck. Estimate for a new heater was $7200. I about choked. I signed the work order (stupid move on my part), but the next morning I called and cancelled it. A second plumber came out and quoted me $2200. I jumped on that. But Wolcott then charged my credit card $650 for the 2 hour visit, including a "restocking fee" levied by the supplier. I complained. The office told me that they don't have an hourly rate. They just charge by the job apparently. I finally got them to lower the charge to $450. Lesson learned: ALWAYS get a quote up front, and get more than one estimate. read more

I used Wolcott for several years because they were responsive. They're on the pricey side for middle-of-the road work, but generally, they showed up & got the job done. Until recently. A year ago, one of their 'technicians' straight-faced told me that toilets only last about 7 years & it was time for me to replace the whole thing. Needless to say, I decided to get someone else for the $200 fix on the leaky seal, but I still had to pay Wolcott's $100 service fee for a moron to lie to my face. Then, this past November, I booked them 2 weeks in advance for a discrete set of tasks: reset a toilet, replace a GFCI, vent, and install a lighted mirror. I'll skip over the scheduling headache leading up to the appt, needless to say, they wasted a ton of my time & still showed up at the wrong time. Folks, their prices were OBSCENE. They give you 3 prices, but the lowest one doesn't include actually doing any work. it's just several hundred dollars to "diagnose" the work that needs to be done. When I pointed out that no diagnosing needs to be done here & $2k is an obscene amount for a toilet reset (yes, it was really that high for just the toilet), they then tried to hard sell me into a "service" contract where for an annual fee, they'll come to your house & look for things they can drum up business on. The service contract gets you 10% off their highway robbery. Unfortunately, I was on a deadline, so I negotiated them down the best I could & had them do the work. It was a mistake. The plumber did an okay job setting the toilet but a terrible job caulking it. The electrician left me with a giant hole to patch in the ceiling, even though I told him to use the vent that fits the existing hole the best. They had an extra guy hanging around the whole time making it difficult for me to check on the progress of their work. I tried to address this with them directly. I responded to their "how did we do" e-mail with a detailed explanation of my dissatisfaction & got an immediate - 'Please call us, we want to make this right.' So I called, the receptionist said to send another e-mail. I did. It's been several weeks now & I have never heard back. They don't care about quality and they don't care about customer satisfaction. Finally, the week after they left, the water heater for this apartment blew & had to be replaced. Two weeks later, the tub drain (next to the toilet drain) detached from the sewer connection. Yes, the house is old - maybe it's a coincidence that two things that have been fine for years suddenly broke. But it is awfully suspicious because their guys were down in the basement and crawlspace unsupervised & their business practices are super shady. TLDR: If you want to be wildly overcharged for mediocre work & possibly have them break things so they can come back and charge you more, absolutely hire Wolcott. Otherwise, there are, in fact, a number of very good plumbers in the Portland area - some of whom have some interesting opinions about Wolcott's work quality. I'm out of town currently, and just heard from my husband that the scheduled service person didn't show up. Bad form! Especially after demanding a credit in the case that no one was home, after he told them he would be home during the time frame that was scheduled. There was no phone call saying the service person wasn't going to come. The worst service ever. This is the second time for bad service. There won't be a third. Hubby figured it out via YouTube. Over priced and under qualified! Hired this company for a plumbing project. They said it would take 3-4 days. I have enough experience to know that means it'll probably take 4-6 days. They managed to spread it out over nearly 5 weeks. To tell the whole story would take too long so here are the "highlights": - they only worked 1-3 hours a day - didn't have the right equipment or parts - destroyed my backyard gate - scheduled the wrong inspections - failed 6 inspections - seldom responded to texts, calls and emails This company delayed my project by over 2 months. When I contacted the owner, several times, about a partial refund for the delays and to repair my gate he ignored me. Save your time, money and headaches. Find someone else! read more

I have been very disappointed with my experience with Wolcott. They replaced our house water lines and their plumbers drilled through our joists which impacted the structural integrity of our home. It took months of constantly calling them before they found an engineer and contractor to complete the repairs. Overall it took five months since the start of the project before it was fixed and they continued to rarely call to update us. I asked for a very small discount from the project cost for the significant hassle we had from their error. The Wolcott management declined this request. We will suggest anyone but Wolcott for any plumbing needs. read more

DO NOT HIRE WOLCOTT! They quoted us $4,860 for a sewer spot repair, ripped up our whole yard, then told us they needed NINE THOUSAND MORE DOLLARS to complete the job!!? Wolcott also broke a panel of sidewalk with their excavation equipment - visible track marks and damage - and the GM refused to pay for it. We ended up hiring Reynolds Sewers to install a completely new sewer line for only $6,200 from scratch. The 64-year-old galvanized drainpipes just couldn't keep it together anymore and spread black water under the house. The Wolcott plumbers came out and replaced the rotten pipes. They were careful not to leave messes in the house. The work was done quickly. Photographs were sent to my email of the before and after work done. Wolcott's people were neat, clean, and courteous. I asked for an inspection of my gas furnace to get a 2nd opinion on the cost and workmanship of an existing new install because I suspected deception and unfair pricing from the original installer. I fell for a hard sell that made it sound like an emergency. Nick was extremely thorough, finding a water leak right away, improper seal around a pipe, heat loss from incomplete item, and verifying that the reasons given for the excessive cost were wrong to impossible. For example, the part they said could cause fire was impossible. There was no actual combustion check to verify an emergency install. The installer's 'generous' warranty was simply the the existing manufacturer's warranty. They registered the warranty for themselves so I would only benefit if I used them again, etc. He was very knowledgeable and professional, and provided an apples-to-apples quote that was many $1000s less. I was able to verify this cost was in line with reported install costs exactly like mine across the country. I will use Wolcott again. read more

He communicated his ETA, and he arrived on time. He was able to fix the jam quickly, and he gave us DIY tips in the event we had a similar problem in the future. Thomas was courteous and affable. I really wish I would've look at all these negative reviews before I hired Wolcott to install mini splits in our house. They have been dishonest, disorganized, and an overall nightmare to work with. I chose Wolcott over other companies because they told me the turnaround time was going to be 1-2 weeks. We're over 2 weeks in, and I was just told it is going to be 2 more weeks. I understand that there are supply chain issues, and I really appreciate all of the other companies that were transparent about the fact that they didn't know when they would be able to install. Wolcott flat out lied to me to get the business. Once I put the deposit down, I didn't hear from them for weeks. I had to consistently call and leave messages just to keep the project moving. I've asked for my deposit back, but they are going to charge a restocking fee and a permit fee, however they won't tell me how much that is going to cost. So here we are again, waiting. Depending on how much it is, I might just eat the costs so I don't have to work with them anymore. I would recommend Able Heating and Cooling, who we should've gone with in the first place. read more

Contacted this company because my usual A/C guys said I needed a lennox dealer to warranty the part I needed. When I contacted them I told them I had a broken part that should be under warranty. The guy who came out was a total jerk. Hostile, abrasive, and really just seemed like he didn't want to be here. Almost immediately he told me they probably couldn't warranty the part because we weren't the original purchaser of the system. Which I feel like the first person I spoke to should have told me. So after they came out, and diagnosed the problem I already knew I had, they charged me $500 with a vague 'we'll try our best to warranty it, but no guarantees. We'll call you.' A week later I had to call them myself, only to be told that there was nothing they could do to warranty the part. In a way that made me feel the tech was very dishonest in saying there was any question about that at all. I honestly feel like I was lied to and jerked around and taken advantage of from my first call. Do not recommend! Try anyone else!! read more

It took them over 10 months to replace my furnace which was defective. My furnace was only 4 years old and the heat stopped working. This was back in October and it is now the end of July and they finally replaced it. I went all winter without heat. Even though I don't have to pay for the furnace since it is still under warranty, they are still charging me over $2000 just for 5 hours of labor. That is crazy! Especially since it took them so long to replace it! I will never call them for service again and I don't recommend anyone use them for HVAC service! read more

I had a trap primer break and needed it fixed same day. They were the first ones to schedule a technician and I booked the appointment. Tech came, diagnosed the problem, sourced the part then returned to do the repair. I needed the repair done, and was told the cost before agreeing to the repair. I shouldn't have paid $480 for a $30 part and an hour labour, but I did. Job was completed quickly and properly but $480 is a comical price to pay for this small job. The company and the tech were upfront about the pricing before they started the repair - I reluctantly agreed to pay due to me being in a rush. Mark was very knowledgeable and professional and fit us in the schedule due to the urgency of this hazard. I called for a busted pipe in my garage. I later discovered another bused pipe before my appointment. I notified them to add it on to my existing work order. The plumber arrived and fixed my original issue but when I asked him about the other issue he said he knew nothing about it. After looking at my second issue I was told he was going to order the part to fix it. He would be back next week. They rescheduled for a couple days later and the plumber showed and didn't have the equipment needed for the Job . A new guy came the next day and took care of the problem. I guess I already had a negative experience with them years ago and actually left a review. ‍ Well, here's bad experience #2. Wolcott charges $97 for an estimate. This is the first time I have ever paid a contractor for an estimate, but I understand contractors are super busy so I didn't mind that much. I was told it would be deducted from my amount due when I had the work done. Except I never got my estimate. They were here on 8/3. I called on 8/18 and was told the plumber needed to consult with his supervisor, which kind of blew my mind because it had already been over two weeks. By the time they called back on 8/26 I had already found a plumber and had the work scheduled. I let them know I was super disappointed that I spent $97 on nothing. No offer of a refund, nothing. Save your money & go with a contractor who values their customer's time and wallet. read more

We had a leak from the street to the house. Called Wolcott (they were recommded by our plumber). They came over the same day, turned off the water and were able to give us an estimate. They replaced the pipe from the street to the house and also called Robinson Restoration to get the water out from our crawl space and replace vapor barrier. First scheduled to come between 10-5 for Monday, no showed and no call from anyone, I called the office at 430 and was told tech ran out of time for the day so we rescheduled for today.
