I operate a senior living community in Troutdale and we recently contracted with Wolcott when we had an issue with our hot water valve. Of course it was a Friday, and by the time they determined what the issue was, it was late in the day. They did not want to fix the issue that day (late on a Friday) and instead suggested that they could put a "temporary bandaid" on the problem and schedule it for a different day the following week. Because this is a residential long term care facility, we needed to have the work completed after normal working hours because the water would need to be shut off for approximately 5-6 hours. We picked a date, scheduled with Wolcott, and sent the appropriate notices to the residents. An hour before our repair services were to start, the technician showed up and asked if our water was working ok with the "bandaid", which it was (thankfully). He then informed us that he would not be completing the work that day as he had some other emergencies come up. We tried explaining that we have given notices to residents and staff and made arrangements and this needed to be completed. He refused to do the work and left. This was horribly unprofessional. I will not be using their services in the future. read more

Update to my previous review. The billing department again asked me for full payment before the job was fully finished. And, to top it off, they threw in an additional bill for $2620 for cutting the concrete to move the water heater to a new place. I was shocked at this bill, but they insisted that they did cut the concrete and prep the area for relocation of the water heater. I pushed back again that the concrete was cut by a concrete cutting company. I offered to provide testimony from the concrete cutters on the scope of work they performed. The company then called to say, I was right and just like that the $2620 bill disappeared. They did however mention in their voice mail of taking me to the collection agency if I didn't pay up the balance on time! Never again will I hire this company for anything!! read more

Was our technician, and he was timely and very professional. He explained everything that he was doing to clear our badly clogged kitchen drain. Ready to empty your wallet? - fuzzy math and deceptive rates -- At the Initial call I was told the cost would be $95 for the service call and if i Agreed to the repair price, that amount would go toward hourly labor and I would pay for parts. So, I made the appointment for a plumber to come out: upon his arrival I asked for an estimate of parts which was under $20 and a time estimate on how long it would take. He said under an hour. Here's the thing, the overall price he presented me was $500. I asked how much they charge by the hour, which he replied $165. Then I asked how did he arrive at $500 when the cost for parts was under $20 and the scope of the job was under an hour. Appears I asked a trick question because he said that he doesn't set the pricing his office does. Then he went into a convoluted diatribe defending book pricing, contract pricing and journey man hourly rates - none of which had anything to do with my project. He should be commended for foolishly attempting to talk himself out of a bind. Nonetheless I needed to have the small project done and asked if we could together call the office to straighten up the confusion, the Wolcott plumber said "I don't have time for that" ran to his truck and left. So when you are ready to be presented a fuzzy math estimate specifically designed to empty your wallet. This is the place for you! UpDaTE -- This project was just completed the same day the above took place by a plumbing company called rescue rooter. they did it in less than a half hour and it cost less than $200. read more

Wolcott Plumbing services overcharged me ridiculously for a problem that they didn't fix. I had a big leak from my sewage ejector pump line. I told the plumber who came out that my neighbor had a similar problem and it took a long time to track down all of the leaks. My neighbor paid $18,000 so I was not surprised when they told me it would be almost $14,000 for the repair--a figure the plumber said was a worst case scenario estimate. I didn't know that I should have received a written bid with the specifics of what was included in the bid. I assumed that the bid was to fix the problem. The plumber fixed the leak that I pointed out to him. That night, I heard water running and found that water was gushing out from a leak a couple of feet up the line from where they fixed the leak I had shown them. They came back the next day and told me that there were leaks all along the pipes that went up to the street. It took a few days and several phone calls before I got their quote. They wanted $35,000-39,000 for the additional repair. It took several days to get a call back to find out what I owed them for the work done on the first day. Finally they told me that I owed $5300 for the single days work during which they patched one leaking connection. That was for a plumber and an assistant plumber who were at the house less than 5 hours and 2 guys with shovels who worked part of the day. That was an outrageous price. They reduced the price by $600 when I complained. I got a bid from Royal Flush that was $12,000 less. They explained everything to me and gave me choices--I went with the most expensive options but could have gotten the job done for $7000 less. If you have a big job and want clear communication, do not use Wolcott. read more

Perfect service. As described and actually even faster. Quality work, without adding on unnecessary steps like some other companies were doing when estimating same job. Dave came in (no need for separate estimate), figured out a solution for our odd piping installation, got parts, got it done -- all in about two hours. Great work, will definitely hire again. I see some of the other reviews about some offensive stuff from some employees, and hey, I'm sympathetic. But the aggression seems misdirected. It's not realistic to expect that a company could hire the right contractors or laborers by skillset, pay, availability, and all that, AS WELL AS having a perfectly matching worldview to yours. This is the company that bought out Perfect Climate and still has this shyster named Lonnie working for them. Four years after my new furnace it has stopped working. It took from late August until the end of October before they completed the job. I had to chase after them to complete the job and took time off from my work for appointments for them to come out and they would not show up or call. Though I paid for a warranty in early December, they gave me the run around until late February after multiple emails I told them to either send the warranty or give me my money back and they send my money back. Not sure how hard is it to mail or email a warranty but my sense is they knew they did lousy work was and by then I had no faith in anything I was told. Over two months, still not completed, and a horrible experience every step of the way. Wolcott was contracted for some plumbing work by the previous owners of our first home. They were supposed to have completed the project before we moved in. Move in day, we find a sidewalk size and shaped hole through the middle of the concrete of the backyard, making the moving truck location and the move a much bigger challenge. After repeated calls from our realtor and my assistant, we were told that someone would be out soon. When someone finally did show, I was coming out of the shower and see in my backyard, a man who had let himself in, looking back. I asked that next time he knock before letting himself into the backyard. THE NEXT DAY I'm coming out of the shower and this time there are three men. They filled the cement in, but when they did, they cemented in the entire sewage cap making it completely inaccessible. We called about it and all they dug out was the screw's X at the top, but STILL have not completed the project. Below is a photo of how far they've gotten. We have been calling about it at least once a week since. Two days ago, the manager for this area said he would come out and personally take care of it. He lied. This company did some work for a neighbor on my street. They filled the street with multiple work trucks, backhoes, large metal plates and large heap of gravel on and off for 1.5 weeks. They scraped up the street with their equipment and blew dirt from the gravel pile into the air to "clean up" the smaller particles from gravel pile but got it all over and on cars. They also left spray paint on the street after they spray painted their tools...seemed to be just a general disregard for the space where people live. read more

I came home to a broken pipe on New Years Day. Mike & Tony Hogg came out the next day and replaced the broken section. The pipes are old and corroded but held together for the patch. Mike gave me a very reasonable quote to re-pipe everything and will start when the weather clears a little. Mike Hogg is professional, friendly and so easy to work with. This is the second time I have had Wolcott Plumbing out here. The first time it turned out to not be a plumbing issue and they would not let me pay, after being here 45 min. When I called Mike on New Year s Day, he answered right away and gave me a 10:00-11:00 window for the next day. At Wolcott Plumbing they treat you like family. I'm scheduling a whole house re-pipe. I called Wolcott after being left high and dry with a different dishwasher installation company. Wolcott made it right! I called Wolcott in a pinch (being without water at my kitchen sink for 7-days) and they were able to come out the following day. When Zach arrived he was apologetic to my situation even though he was not the one who created the original problem. He quickly was able to identify the issue - the previous installer broke the drain on the kitchen sink and that new plumbing would be needed. He was able to fix that rather quickly and complete the dishwasher installation, even stayed to make sure it didn't leak when the cycles started. That afternoon after Zach left, I noticed a screw was blocking the dishwasher door from opening and I called back, after hours and the Wolcott team got me right back on their schedule for the next day so that Zach could come make the adjustment (no additional fee). I will definitely use Wolcott again in the future as I believe their team has quality staff who are knowledgeable and empathetic. They were not the cheapest nor the most expensive company out there (I had 4-other quotes to compare). Thank you Zach and the Wolcott team! Sean came out and of course I am at a total disadvantage as I cannot discuss anything in person. He gave me a figure of $465 to replace a $40 part. Online estimates for this work is $250-$300. I purchased a home that had a lot of work done by Wolcott. I wanted another electrical outlet installed and phoned them to do the job. And then I call 3 more times over two months. The last time I called I asked if someone was going to call back. The woman on the phone just said, "I gave him your messages." I gave up and called a company referred to me by a neighbor and the job was done two days later. Wolcott never did call. My furnace was making a strange sound so I asked Wolcott, who installed it, to take a look. It was still under a one year warranty. The service person listened to the noise and said it was nothing to worry about because the furnace was working fine. I wanted a service contract on my furnace so I called Wolcott and the person I talked to had no idea about how to proceed, or even if they had such a thing. I called the company that serviced my previous home and they came out three days later. I showed their tech a video of the strange noise. He said it sounded like an A/C coolant problem. He removed the A/C cover and there was a hand written note that said, "coolant ?". The original Wolcott installer had not filled the reservoir with as much coolant as is required. I now have a furnace-A/C maintenance contract, but not with Wolcott. And the furnace noise is gone. If you want service, do not use Wolcott. read more

If I could give it a lower review, I would. This company is un-ethical, dishonest, and I would NEVER use them or recommend to anyone. Flat out lied to me about my clogged pipe. Said Disposal was the issue, which it wasn't. Charged me $275 and left with the problem still there. Contacted the company after I had another company come out and never heard 1 word back from them. I will be contacting BBB. Run, don't walk to any other company. I ended up using ProDrain in Beaverton and they were FANTASTIC, fair, and fixed the problem quickly. Live and learn. read more

Sloppy work. They did a lot of work for us as we are renovating our house. Put in a hot water heater and a new heat pump. they criss-crossed the drainage line across the entrance of a closet door (to be) so that we couldn't use the closet or enter the area. They said they would fix it if we paid them more since it passed inspection that way. Guess it didn't matter we couldn't use the space as attended...a closet. They totally ignored the instructions on where the new rooms would be for the vent system, we had to have it redone. Really terrible work. Our oil furnace stopped working so we called Wolcott out to service it. The man who came tinkered with the furnace and told us that it was going to need to be replaced for $6-10,000!! When we asked about a replacement part, he said that it was so old that he didn't think he could find a part for it. My husband decided to go down there and look at it after watching a couple of YouTube videos and he FIXED IT. It turns out all that needed to be done was get the thermostat working and bleed the pump. It is now working perfectly! I would NOT recommend this company. Obviously, either too lazy to try to fix it or trying to make a buck off of you! Stay away and find someone else. read more

Not happy at all!!! We now have a Frankenstein unit and they never called when they will be there. Then after they installed the ac unit they tell me my furnace has 2 yrs left why did they not tell me that in the first place. I can understand the parts issue this last summer with covid delaying everything but WTF now I have to spend another 5 k to get everything redone! I am so pissed at how they handled this and for 11k for the ac unit I would have spent the money and got it all done if that's what they recommend. But they told me the furnace was fine. Had a plumber come out and replace a water heater in my apartment building. The first time I spoke with them they were very friendly and kind, and gave an accurate estimate of when water would be available again. Later in the day, I went out onto my steps to do some chores, and found my gardening supplies moved, tools scattered on my steps, and access to my storage closet blocked off by a 10ft pipe suddenly jutting out of the wall. My compost/worm home had it's cover removed, and was directly beneath the work (drilling holes into the building). It was now filled with paint and wood debris (from an old building likely containing lead). I waited for the worker to return. They spent a minute in eye line very friendly chatting with a passing dog walker. When I tried to ask for an estimate of when the work would be done, I was cut off before I could even get to the question. The plumber became hostile. A 5 second flip from friendly dog chatting to being hostile to me. When I expressed that it bothered me that I hadn't been notified of the work, and that my things had been moved without consultation (when they knew I was home), I was met with aggressive condensation. Their manner and body language was, quite frankly, frightening. I was not comfortable in my home, and as they had taken over my stairs, felt I couldn't leave it. I later heard them in the basement on the phone with the head office speaking about the tenants. The plumber repeatedly exlaimed "They're scammers! They're just scamming! They're scammers!" Which was bewildering (what is the scam?) and offensive. I believed they knocked twice afterwords, but I did not answer as the event and the overheard phone conversation left me very uncomfortable. Their name was Matt. I do not know what caused this sudden switch from friendly to hostile. I emailed the office, but received no reply. Not looking for anything, save acknowledgment that this behavior was unacceptable. The work left a hole drilled in the wrong place a jagged eyesore, leading to a second hole with the pipe. I do have hot water though which I guess is the goal, but that behavior was not really worth it. It took them several visits to figure out how to replace the water heater, but I believe that was a little more due to poor management from Portland General Contracting, which is a more frightening tale. read more

I bought a new house and Wolcott plumbing was the busness that installed the plumbing. When I discovered a vent pipe in the attic was not connected it took over 2 weeks for the scheduler to contact me to send someone out. When the guy final came out he said he would come back next morning to fix it. He didn't come back and no one called to let me know why. I made several calls and had a less the helpful person say a manager would call me back by end of day. No one called. I left multiple voice messages the next day but no call has been returned. It seems like since this job is covered by the warranty and there is no money for Wolcott Plumbing to make my issue is of little importance to them. It has been a terrible customer service experience. The only positive thing was the man that came out to look at the issue was professional, informative and friendly. We needed kitchen sink faucets fixed -- hot was leaking badly. Wolcott was 3rd of 4th plumber I phoned. It was a Thursday and they all said Monday at the earliest -- one even said it would be at least a week. Wolcott booked me for the next day. Joel phoned 15 minutes before arrival & came at scheduled time. Replaced lines to both faucets (the sink was installed about 20 years ago and had never been serviced). Everything works great. And Joel was a very pleasant and agreeable person. Couldn't have hoped for more. read more

I contracted with Wolcott heating and plumbing to install a new heatpump in my home. They installed good equipment but their work was shotty at best. They made a mess in my basement. they pulled down insulation and left it where it landed. They left behind materials all over the space. They installed ducting ducts where it was most convenient for them not where we agreed to have it placed. This left me to remove their poor workmanship and to remediate the problems myself. they failed to introduce a duct and ventilation into the main room in my renovations. Called them to get a quote for a AC unit in our new home as they are the company who the builder had install the heating system!!! The rep Mike came out to give us a quote and at first he was friendly and all however he seemed to be in a rush and did not go over the details of the system and install or Evan a quote told me he would have to email the quote to me and was in and out in less the 30 minutes!!!! Four days later I had to call to find out when I would be getting the quote !!!!! They said that they had lots of quotes and would reach out to Mike to see if he could get me the quote!!! Once I received the quote it was not complete as I had discussed about insta hot feature on our tankless system!! Three days later I called again about the quote and then I received a call from Mike to ask what my issue was with the quote and I tried to explain what was missing and he became very rude and raised his voice on the phone to me I let him know if he continue I would disconnect the call which I ended up doing due his rudeness to me!!!! He then called me 9 times as I declined each call!!! I email them on how my there employee was very rude and let them know I would be reaching out to other companies for AC quotes!!!! Which I did !!! I would give them no stars if that was an option here!!!! Very poor customer service!!!' My bathtub faucet was leaking through the recessed lighting in my kitchen. We called Wolcott because they were the plumber the builder used and our house is only 7 years old. They were out to our house within an hour of calling - so that's a big star right there. Dave The Plumber wore booties in my house and was very polite and respectful. Unfortunately, the troubleshooting process involved cutting out a section of tile and drywall that frames in my bathtub, just to find out that it was a bad O-ring on the faucet. That wasn't Dave's fault, that's just how troubleshooting goes sometimes. However, the O-ring was a proprietary Delta ring that he was going to have to get from the shop and install. Dave felt bad that he had made a mess of my bathroom and was having to leave without fixing my problem. He said that he had to charge me the minimum for a housecall ($90) but he wouldn't charge me again to bring and install the O-ring. However, when he called the dispatcher to arrange to come back today, she told him that he would indeed have to charge me the minimum for both visits. As he was leaving yesterday, he said he would talk with the dispatcher back at the shop and see what he could do. Dave came back today with the right part and fixed us up. We ended up paying $140 for the 2 visits, which is ok. Here's a tip though: Wolcott does new construction exclusively, due to a non-compete they signed when they merged with some other businesses. So if you have an old house with a plumbing issue, they're not who you call. RE: the person with the out of warranty water-heater: they may have blown you off because it wasn't a new install and the person you spoke with may not have realized that they will indeed come out to service their own work, even out of warranty. For best results, I recommend that you ask for Dave. He was pretty awesome. read more
