There are some upscale restaurants where you think to yourself, if I had a say in how things were run, what would I change? And my answer to this for Wolf is nothing, I would change nothing! I am not an industry professional, just someone who knows great service when I experience it...we called and asked if we could bring our dog and they said yes of course. Obviously that was awesome of them. We didn't bring him in the end because it was raining too hard but I digress. The food was innovative and fresh, I had the vegetarian tasting menu and my husband had the non vegetarian tasting menu. The cocktails were delicious, each dish was sublime and the complimentary dessert plate at the end was a fun touch. The setting is quiet even though people were enjoying themselves fully, maybe it's something about the building. In any case, we were able to enjoy this for our last night in Amsterdam. Nice vibe and cool and inviting ambiance in this gourmet venue. We really dug the little box they gave us to start our culinary adventure. Speaking of which, we had the 17 course kitchen tasting menu- in this case, an interesting, slightly gimmicky concept, where the chef gives you a list of the dishes you'll be experiencing, a pencil, and an invitation to rate or comment on all the dishes. We played along... Not bad... Overall I'd say we had more dishes that were good versus those that were not so good. But 'fraid I have to say, some dishes did fall in the latter category. I won't go into all 17 courses but I'll leave a few comments. First, to all the restaurants in Amsterdam, please, no more steak tartare on your tasting menu. It's not 1990 anymore and even though it's almost always good, it's almost never that special. And look- if I throw you a curve ball and ask for a change in the menu, if you can't do it, just say so. We'll both be happier if you stick to what you know. In this case, I asked for no seafood. Instead I got most of the seafood dishes with all the seafood left out... peep my reviews. I am not a vegetarian! Next, no matter how special your food is, hit-or-miss service will always make things taste worse. One of our waiters just should not be in this business. Poor hygiene, spilling drinks, throwing down silverware- it was annoying. Not just that, but why are we being served by 12 different people, none of whom can seem to remember that they already asked us for our drink order. Finally, if we take the time to review all of your food, it would be nice for you to come out and say hello. Just saying... Hands down one of the best meals of my life. Wolf is more than a meal--it's an experience. From the moment you walk through the door, you're greeted in accommodating fashion. They walk you through the menu (I recommend the 15-course pre-fixe), prepare you for the meal with fresh water, a clean towel, and a mint; and then take you on a roller coaster of flavors, textures, and influences. The staff was very friendly and happy to answer any questions I had through the meal. They were also kind enough to explain the menu to me and even recommended I offer my thoughts as I go, in order to help them improve the menu. Honestly, I can't recommend Wolf enough. It's a bit out of the way from the downtown area, but well worth the journey. Ok, this will go fast! It really didn't do it for me, Because, I expected chic. If you offer white linen on the table for dining on Saturday, you should deliver. As always, my reviews are not about food, it is about the feel of the place. The staff: super friendly and definitely eye candy for all. The kitchen is open for you to see the operation, I couldn't find a not so good looking person in the staff. Bravo! The decor may need freshen up, the dinning chairs are comfortable, the view is ok, the concept of being suspended is fabulous! Update: What a fiasco! From the moment we walked in it was like a circus. You would think that someone would ask us if we wanted to have a seat or if we had reservations. We just sort of stood there for a few minutes before anyone even acknowledged our presence. Vince said our table was almost ready to have a drink at the bar while we wait. The bar was so busy with confusion that we were not even able to do this. Once at the table, and I mean moments after we sat down, we were saying how the ambience is OK but it's far far too loud and we don't like being there. Just as this was said the server dropped a plate and knife on my girlfriends neck! It was really a bad drop and she was not feeling good the rest of the meal. We wanted to leave right away but they brought us a glass of prosecco to say sorry. As for the meal, the appetizers were good and presented beautifully. For the main course though he got our order wrong and brought Foie Gras instead of the lamb. We really weren't too excited about any of the dishes and the menu is quite small so we had to wait for them to cook the lamb. Of course because they decided to rush this order and it was basically Raw meet with tendons. Just absolutely disgusting to eat. The flavor was there but the dish was in edible. So much so in fact that as we were trying to share it all I could think of was leaving there so I couldn't go buy some patats. We even thought to bring the meat home to the dog but decided that wouldn't be good for her even. Luckily for us and for them they decided to comp this dish because it was brought out wrong. They were certainly sorry about everything but the damage was done. I almost forgot about the wine! We decided to get a bottle of Malbec but then were told they were out of it. When you only have 15 red wines on the menu how can you be out of one of them? He then suggested a South African read for €10 more. This wine was basically undrinkable. We really had to choke it down because we purchased a whole bottle. Such a shame. I am downgrading my three star review to two and even that is being lenient. I have been on the fence whether to give it one star this whole time now. We will certainly never ever go back to see if they can redeem themselves. This was already the third try. We had the 15 course dinner, with recommend wines. 4 of the dishes were really good, and 4 were actually not pleasant (lacking flavor). The rest was average. The service was lacking: the first course took 45-60 minutes. They forgot about the fact we ordered extra water during the meal and forgot about a drink after the meal. Next to that, they served 2 dishes where the main component was cheese, while my dining partner indicated three times (which should be known after asking the first time) that he did not like cheese. For at least 5 courses, the paired wine did not seem to match. They charged us for 4 menus, while we were with two. Luckily, that was fixed. Overall; far from what we expected. Michael Wolf has been talked about as one of the next top chefs to come out of Amsterdam, if not Northern Europe, and he did not disappoint with what came out of his kitchen ... even if he was not present on a bustling Saturday night. That being said, the remainder of the experience at Wolf leaves nothing to be desired, that is correct, nothing. Let's start with the front of house and when I questioned why a table of 6 was being forced to dine on a Chef's tasting menu due to the size of our party, I was told "That is what we do, if you do not like it, eat elsewhere." I would like to note that if we had succumbed and not asked for the manager upon walking in to change the requirement, we would not have tasted some of Wolf's most ingenious dishes, such as the Macaron of Beer, Scallop Carpaccio with truffle and delectable Foie Gras entree. As well, 50% of the menu had already been sold out by the 8:30pm seating. Now I want to reiterate, the food was very good, just the execution of the service was terrible. Let's now talk about some other low points, for a top tier restaurant, where you can plan on spending €75-100/person with wine, and a paltry wine selection at best, the tables were as small as a brown cafe in the center of Amsterdam and the wine that you did order was served in the smallest white wine glass ever used. The seats were repainted wooden cafe chairs that were as comfortable as the trams of Hong Kong. One does not want to be the one complaining, but these could not be overlooked as you felt you were providing Wolf a favor of you dining with them, instead of the other way around. His creativity in the kitchen is worth watching, but he needs to pull the rest of his operation together in order to be considered a top restauranteur on the global scene. read more

Tried the five course dinner for $47 euros/person and it was simply the best meal in Amsterdam. Excellent service with great choice of wine (1st grand cru burgundy for $75/bt?? High recommended resto in Amsterdam. The chef previously worked at a 1-star michelin resto and started his own resto. Quality of food is really up to standard of a 1-star and very good value too. Very friendly staff as well. The minus is the location is quite hard to find for a tourist. Not close to central station. Need a good 15 min walk. We really liked the flexibility of the menu. If you have a big tummy with lots of time, there is a 15-course meal. If not, there are 4 or 5 courses meal, or a-la-cart. Food are tasty and creative. A lot of choices in wine and not expensive. Just 6-8 euro for a glass. We ordered a 5-course plus two a-la-cart and 4 glasses of wine plus a bottle of water. Total came to 118euro. Really enjoyed it. read more

The only tartar-ia of Amsterdam (or the world) is to be found at Wolf Atelier, located in a beautiful glass building that rests on a 1920 industrial railroad-bridge near Central Station. Before opening this place the Austrian owner, Michael Wolf, gained experience at renowned restaurants such as Oud Sluis in Sluis and Villa Joya in Albufeira. This Austrian chef knows how to please his guests by using the freshest product for innovative dishes. The tartar-ia is one of the latest additions to the lunch menu. I had the best tuna dish around, served by a cute and attentive waiter who seemed to like the fish as much as I did: chopped tuna mixed with a vinaigrette of yuzu (Japanese citrus) and soy sauce, wasabi nuts, radish and jalapeño mayonnaise on top. Great food in a superfab location! As soon as you enter you feel you are in a special place and straight forward felt comfortable. In every table there is a wooden box... if you want to know what's inside you better go to discover it ;) Their specialty are the tartars in which they really excel, you can get different tartars in different sizes so you can choose it as a starter or as a main. Steak was also fantastic and also the wine. Waitress was very nice and attentive. Regarding the price it is not cheap but considering we had appetizers, starters, main, desserts and drinks was not that bad. Definitely we will come back! read more
