Watch your credit card charges! Better check your credit card for some "erroneous" charges after your visit. I was shocked to find a charge twice as high as expected on my card. I went back (was still in town) to complain, and after waiting for at least 10 minutes the manager told me that they had accidentally entered the total amount as tip, thus effectively doubling the charge. Okay, mistakes can happen but this is a pretty bad one. I requested a credit, and indeed two days later I received the credit on my card. Now, to add insult to injury, the following day they charged the amount they had just credited me right back onto my credit card. What excuse are you going to offer this time? My family goes here every year for Christmas Eve and we love it. Great specials, my boyfriend loves the burgers. I've had almost everything on the menu at this point. I really like the mussels and they have different kinds depending on the day. Bartender is really great and attentive. Fairly priced and I like the tavern atmosphere with mug club pewter mugs hanging, fireplaces and a moose on the wall. read more

We never got to try the food. The menu looked good online so we decided to try it. Well, we waited 10 minutes for a hostess which we can deal with. The table was sticky. The salad with duck was sans duck. . . well, maybe two little cold pieces. The Asparagus Fries were delish. Staff was really nice albeit a bit slow on a busy Saturday afternoon @ 5pm. Food didn't come out all at once either - we got three meals and then waited for close to 10 minutes before our other two friends got theirs. Very nice sitting near the fire. The menu has changed since we were there last summer. We each ordered a pizza and both us were very happy with them. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. The woman at the table behind us had ordered something with salsa and didn't like it. She told the server who quickly took it away and got her another meal. This woman would not stop taking about the onion taste in the salsa the ENTIRE time we were there. So annoying and I thought our young waitress handled it perfectly. I still recommend this place for excellent drinks and a higher quality tavern style meal. Prices were a little high which knocks off a star but Wolfeboro is on the pricey side everywhere. read more

This was the first time I've visited the lake winnipesaukee region and our first night we ate at this tavern because it was convenient since we were already staying at the inn. I ordered the lobster steamers combo platter while my mom ordered the blackened salmon over ceaser salad. We were both pleased with our meals and the service was excellent even though the staff was fairly small. The only thing I do not recommend is the salad bar which was fairly mediocre. The prices were also very reasonable and it had the feeling of an old time tavern combined with a newer feel. read more

Went for dinner. Had cocktails a chicken liver appetizer, I had the scallops for dinner and my husband had the beef cheeks. Our food was amazing! Everything exceeded our expectations and was so delicious! We will come back, and fully recommend for others. read more

Sadly, I am very disappointed in the service at the Tavern of the Wolfeboro Inn, Wolfe's. My husband and I were there on the Friday night of 4th of July weekend and could not believe as we sat at the bar and watched the bartenders not crack a smile the entire night, with the exception of one girl (i think her name was brittany) who was being trained by the other two working there. I get that this is a resort town and that the staff in the local establishments must deal w/ a lot of annoying out-of- towners, but no one was being rude and actually we watched a gentleman come up to the bar to try to order something for he and his wife who were apparently staying at the inn, and you would have thought he had asked for their first born. What makes me even more sad about this is the fact that my husband and I got married at the Wolfeboro Inn many years ago so it really holds a special place in our hearts - the kicker was after leaving the bar area we walked down to the lobby to possibly inquire into booking the honeymoon suite we stayed in all those years ago for sometime later in the summer but we didn't even bother as the woman "working" behind the front desk was sitting slumped over the computer w/ her hand on her chin and did not once look up or make eye contact w/ us. I only hope that someone from Wolfe's / Wolfeboro Inn reads this review and takes it seriously because I really love this establishment and hate to feel like I never want to go back there again. read more

A rainy day in Alton Bay led my boyfriend and I to Wolfeboro for a very late lunch. The inn's restaurant was larger than expected, dimly lit, and lacking a crowd. The bartender was a little cranky about retrieving a martini list for me, but I am going to pass that up as her having a bad day. The gentleman who ended up closing our tab at the bar was much nicer and more professional. The BF and I each ordered a bowl of clam chowder ($8 per), which was very good. I tempted the All-You-Can-Eat salad bar ($7), which was small and included Romaine lettuce, sliced white mushrooms, sliced carrots, grape tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, shredded cheese, and a variety of dressings. My BF ordered the Timber Island Fish Sandwich, which included fresh Atlantic haddock, served with house tartar sauce on a bulkie roll ($9). He enjoyed his sandwich, but we were disappointed that they forgot to serve it with fries. :( Nonetheless, we were happy to have tried the tavern and may be back next time we're in town. read more

I had eaten here years ago and liked it, then this past Thanksgiving, was looking for a holiday buffet. Read reviews here on yelp and wasn't sure what to expect. A lot of the reviews were complaining about service or food, so I waffled, but having no where else to go, we went. We did not have a lot of expectations. We were pleasantly surprised. The Tavern used areas throughout the hotel, and the food was quite good. Turkey was a bit dry, but prime rib was superb. The food was excellent. Dessert was mediocre, but all in all, was happy with meal. Really wondered about all the negative reviews I read. Seems most folks did not like the service. As we were doing a buffet, that was not an issue. But the food was good, and we'd eat there again. read more

Came here after looking at boats all morning. Went around 2pm for a late lunch so we didn't expect it to be very busy, which it wasn't. For a place that totes itself on the "beers around the world" they were certainly out of most of the beer selections. We were told they were currently "changing the rotation". Also, if you are going to be a "tavern", it might help to update your beer menu so your customer isn't being told at every beer choice "sorry, we're out of that one"..that happened at least on 4 of our choices. What? No "beer flights"? If you're going to be a tavern they you really should include beer flights. When we asked the bartender/server told us that because of their "beers around the world" most of the beer selections are in bottles....so if your looking for tap choices you are certainly in the wrong tavern. The food.....we like to get an appetizer and one entrée and share em both for lunch.... We ordered the "Steuben Burger" and it was a complete disappointment. Lacking in: thousand island dressing....and sauerkraut....and we ordered medium and it was overcooked. The only saving grace to this meal was the fried cauliflower: that was a very pleasant surprise. While our bartender was also our server he was lacking in knowing what they had at the bar for beer....how the hell does that even happen? He couldn't recommend anything because he hadn't tried most of them??? Our only regret was not taking photos of the burger and the cauliflower. Given that: Pro: the service was a pleasant experience the establishment was very clean and spotless, including the bathrooms fried cauliflower was awesome! Poor service. No one in the place and we were told we had to wait because the kitchen was backed up. Then they couldn't find us menus. We were there in peak tourist season (August) so you would think they would be staffed enough and ready to handle a crowd. Food took way to long to get and was average. So sad to see this as this use to be a place we have always enjoyed coming to when in the area. read more

We had our last night's meal on vacation here Friday 8/26/17 and really enjoyed it. Serving warm bread with 3 different dipping sauces, we had drinks and were served by John Lee, a recent Texan transplant with a winning smile. He was patient, available and made the dining experience a pleasure. Husband had a great burger with fries and I ordered a chicken thigh dinner with delicious golden beets and a small salad. We were seated in a cushioned booth which added to our experience. We will be back and hope others give this place a try, right in downtown Wolfeboro, a solid standby. read more

A group of four of us spent fourth of July weekend in NH and kept our schedule busy with water sports, boating, and activities around lake winnipesaukee. We found this place off of a referral from a townie and it was DELISH! The waitress could've been quicker, but maybe that's because we were on the FAR side of the restaurant in the patio. (When I tried to find the bathrooms I realized how long of a walk it was.) She was pleasant and sweet and didn't forget anything. I ordered a steak that wasn't cooked to my liking- it was well done when I asked medium rare- but once the plate came I realized the thinness of the steak probably had a lot to do with it, and it was a fatty cut. I switched my steak selection to the steak tips- which they gave me for free to compensate, and didn't charge me for the meal I didn't like!! I was impressed with the customer service and grateful for the discount. I was slightly disappointed they didn't have oysters on the halfshell- we were ready to drop 60+ bucks on them for dessert (our fave!). But we found a nearby place closer to the center of town. When we come back to the lake, I'll definitely come back here! The chowder, french onion soup, and gyoza dumplings were incred! I forget the name of the seafood sauté that my best friend ordered, but that was succulent and flavorful as well. The burger was massive, and the steak tips were bursting with flavor. This review is for two visits. We went for dinner, two stars, and breakfast, four stars. Dinner was fairly expensive for the portion size and service was slow and left a lot to be desired. My husband and I frequented Wolfe's Tavern when we used to live in Wolfeboro. We always enjoyed the ambiance - an old colonial atmosphere straight from the 1700's - i any season. We always enjoyed the food, especially the sandwiches named after the islands on Lake Winnipesaukee. We moved out of state a few years back and recently moved back to the Lakes Region. Our first visit back to Wolfe's Tavern was for their brunch, which was outstanding. However, what a shock to see that the coziness of the restaurant had disappeared with a new remodeling! We were told that new owners had taken over since we had been gone. With the exception of the front corner room where the booths still remain, the colonial wainscotting is gone, the walls are covered with an ugly "goes with anything" wallpaper (at least it looks like wallpaper) and the back of the Tavern is now opened up to the larger, plain, boring "could be anywhere" diningroom. Other than the booths and the fireplace, the only things left recognizable were the old beams and the pewter mugs. The rest of the place looks like "any other restaurant". While we will return for the brunch and possibly try the newer menu for dinner, we will be longing for the old ambiance which made it feel like the old tavern it was. read more

We dined at the Wolfeboro Inn on Monday evening. It was crowded, and both the hostess and waitress commented on how busy it was. It took quite some time to get our drinks and place our orders (burgers and pasta special) and it took a little over an hour to get our meals. My burger wasn't as described in the menu, and the chef got my temperature choiced mixed up with the other burger that was ordered (i ordered medium and it was definitely rare). By that time I was ready to pass out, so raw meat was acceptable. (I also had a hair on my plate, but didn't complain.) The only reason this got two stars is because they gave us complimentary desserts to apologize for the delay. However...it took about 20 minutes to get the desserts :( What was meant to be a quick dinner out took all evening. Pretty sure we won't be going back. read more

When the Inn reopened after major renovations, hopes were high. As is often the case, there were some hiccups to work out. Well they have! My wife and I love their Sunday brunch. It is wonderful! There baked French Toast is amazing and the roast beef is always excellent. The staff is great and they have made a lot of improvements since their reopening. Based on other reviews maybe it was the time (4PM) or the season (Nov 8), but we had the best meal in a restaurant that we've had in years. We started with sautéed mussels that were cooked perfectly served in a delicious broth with onions, garlic, potatoes (yes potatoes), and asparagus. The entre course for both of us was the sautéed scallops that was served in an elaborate mixture of yellow eye beans, cherry tomatoes, fresh sorrel, and more. Also on the dish were two crab cakes with a dab on top of a wonderful coulee. With two glasses of a great local brown ale, and ice tea for my wife, the ticket with 20% tip came to $99. It was worth every cent, and we will be back for special dinners time and again. We parked right in front, and had fantastic service. read more

Thanksgiving Dinner. First I want to state I gave 1star only for a friendly staff person. Made reservations for 3pm waited45 minutes to be seated. We were seared at a card table which our legs just the small about fit underneath. The small tablecloth underneath kept slipping because of our leg room. The holiday meal buffet was limited for food that remained. When inquired if food would be replenished the staff person handling the food indicated that they were not sure. When we sat down to eat what food we could select, it was cold, the green beans were uncooked. This was the worst meal we have experienced. We were so looking forward to going out for the holiday, especially since my husband is on oxygen and cannot get out of the house often. It appears that the owners were only interested in how many people they could serve to get as much money as they could than offering a wonderful Thanksgiving Day experience to families and patrons. read more

I was into the Wolfe's Tavern the other day for dinner. Looking forward to going back. It was just my wife and I and we had a nice, nice time. The restaurant has both a nice bar area and dining room with a large fire place. The menu is mostly American fare and done well. It was especially nice to see a more interesting assortment of vegetarian options. Not that we are vegetarian per se, but I like having choices. We started our meal with asparagus frites, basically a tempura type coating over the asparagus with an aioli dipping sauce. They were good and a nice change of pace. The restaurant offers a nice assortment of burgers and I went for the bleu cheese burger, my wife opted for a cauliflower steak. It's essentially a thick slab cut of cauliflower either fried or grilled with a Moroccan style spice blend, eggplant caponata and golden raisins. It was fabulous. The chef came out to answer questions and they really try to be accommodating. We polished off a bottle of wine and just enjoyed the place. I wouldn't hesitate to go back. read more
