If you walk into a Chinese restaurant and it's packed with Chinese people, it's always a good sign. This place isn't for everyone. In fact it's not for most people. Going there at peak dinner hours is best. The food is constantly coming out fresh. A lot of seafood options. The crab disappears quickly and isn't replaced very fast. But everything else keeps flying out of the kitchen. $15 for all you can eat is a bargain. But if you don't like shellfish and items like seasnails this place isn't for you. read more

Just came back from the local Wal-Mart in Bellingham and saw this place about a block south from it. Looking outside from the street, the place looked packed on a Wednesday night. That piqued my curisoity so I went in. In short, its one of the best buffets for Chinese food that I've been too. Their coconut shrimp is delicious and their seafood rangoons are awesome but their egg swirl soup was probably the most authentic I've ever tasted outside of Vancouver Chinatown. The staff was attentive and friendly and the bathrooms are clean. What I didn't like are their desserts. Even though the fruit looked ok but when I tasted their cream puff I almost puked since it tasted moldy. Their other cakes were average at best. Aside from that, at around $15 per person (including drink) I won't hesitate to go back there again. read more

The food at Wonderful reminds me of the quality of casual buffet like Old Country or Golden Corral: A ton of food that does not taste bad but nowhere near great. I was starving entering Wonderful buffets doors so my eyes exploded seeing all of the pans of food under the warmers. However, everything ended up tasted just OK. All the white/light sauces tasted the same, all the brown sauces tasted the same. I was not impressed. For the 10-12 bucks I spent for the buffet, I'd rather go to a restaurant and order one dish that actually tastes unique and flavorful. This is probably the lowest rating I've giving. I have worked in restaurants and know it's hard to make a living running one. Wonderful is next to Best Buy, Walmart, and Costco so I don' t think me telling Yelpers that there is better Chinese in Bellingham will keep customers away Wonderful Buffet. read more

Went in the evening around 600. I tried to find one thing I liked and could not. Food that was supposed to be hot was cold, Food that was supposed to be cold was hot. Felt nauseous immediately after done eating. Saw no food replaced when there was only bits and morsels left. I have been to many different asian/chinese buffets in my life and this is by far the worst. Place lacked care and standards for food. Also the dinner buffet costs over 15.00 after tax. Disappointed because I could have got better food for cheaper at Arbys, Taco Bell, or Taco Time across the street....and would have felt better than I did after eating at Taco Bell than here....which is crazy. read more

My boyfriend and I used to be regulars at this place! The food is decent for a buffet, seems pretty fresh and I've never had anything that was cold. However, my boyfriend (a huge sushi lover) ate some sushi with rotten vegetables in it that made him gag at the table! He's also gotten some rancid crab legs here as well. As another reviewer mentioned, I'm 99% sure most of the food here is costco frozen food. One day we were leaving here and we saw the owner getting into her car so of course we followed and sure enough, she went straight to the costco parking lot. Need more potstickers I guess. All things considered, it's not the worst Chinese buffet by far. Food is decent (usually) and the service is fine. But after the two gross experiences my boyfriend had, and considering how overpriced it is at $10 a pop when they are just reheating frozen food, I doubt I'll be back anytime soon. read more

I've eaten here several times before and it was always a fairly pleasant experience. Quick to get in, quick to take plates away, all business, no bs - just how i like it. This last visit today will be my last. 2 complaints - they no longer serve walnut shrimp during lunch which was the only thing that I really loved to eat there. Totally forgivable on it's own. The second is that they put out moldy food. I grabbed a couple of the little cream puff pastries on my second pass through. When I bit into it I immediately smelled mold. Thankfully I spit it out before I got a chew in. I waved a server over and showed them the mold. There was a bit of a language barrier, but once she saw it, she went and told someone else, who then told someone else, who then went and pulled the tray of pastries. That was the end of it. No apology from anyone, nothing. I've lost my appetite at this point and leave my full plate of food sitting in front of me untouched. They bring the check a few minutes later. I advise the lady that there is no way I am paying for my meal after being served mold. I had to explain a few times due to the previously mentioned language barrier, but she finally understands me and goes to talk to who appears to be the manager. The manager looks at the check, then looks at me, then at the server and just nods. If the manager had come over and offered an apology right when it happened, I would have been satisfied, paid for my meal, and not be sitting here writing a 1 star review on yelp. Avoid this place if you care at all about customer service or food quality. read more

Horrible place. The food didn't look appetizing, little taste and not worth what they charged. The bathroom was dirty & so I skipped using it. They bring out the vacuum while we were trying to eat, which was annoying. 95% of the clientele are Canadians, and they seem to love it. We will never return. Pretty average for a Chinese buffet restaurant in America. Nothing to complain about here but it is nothing special and certainly doesn't taste much like Chinese food (much like a lot of Chinese food in America). There is certainly a good selection and variety of foods available, but as I told my neighbour after eating here, if I was blindfolded I doubt I could tell the difference between about 90% of the dishes. Everything is pretty bland. Mongolian Beef? Bland. General Tso's Chicken? Gooey and bland. Nothing tastes bad and it appears everything is pretty fresh - just nothing is really good here. It is a pretty busy place so the food turns over pretty consistently, pretty much ensuring freshly cooked dishes. I was a little surprised to see so many Asians eating here but I guess there is a good selection and the value for what you pay is pretty good. But if I was going out to a restaurant to eat it would have to be a lot more special than this. read more

The food at this buffet does not even measure up to food court quality. There's lots to choose from but it's mediocre at best. Cleanliness apparently is not a priority and we were shocked by a cockroach near the salad bar. The staff are diligent and efficient but beware the rude dragon lady at the front desk. My boyfriend and I went here the other day, and was hesitant to come because of the mixed reviews we saw about it. Hoping that all the positive reviews were true, we come to find out the opposite. The service was okay, the works are very short with you and almost don't want to talk. Then the food was okay, lukewarm, nothing too special. We came for the crab legs but they were served cold and extremely hard to open. Once we left we both had stomach aches, needless to say we are never going back there again! My complaint is not about the food, which is very good for a buffet, but for an unwelcoming and unfriendly policy of the establishment. My experience with restaurants, including buffets, is that if you come in before the lunch time is over, as long as it's not at the "last minute," you can dine without pressure, and will charged the lunch price even if you go over into the supper period. Naturally, some diners will intentionally abuse this, but most won't. We called the restaurant from the freeway & asked when the lunch period would be over. As the time we were given was reasonable, we drove on in. Upon arrival we had 25 minutes to spare. We were told we had to be done eating at the end of that 25 minutes. As we don't "wolf" down our food, we didn't feel that 25 minutes was adequate. What we objected to was the rigid, "take it or leave it" attitude exhibited by the manager. We understand that some, possibly more expensive, foods may be placed out for dinner time period vs the lunch time period. We did not intend to abuse that transition by waiting and loading up on the advanced offerings. We just wanted a nice lunch at a reasonable pace. The desire to give the customers a fair and pleasant experience without keeping an "eagle eye" on the bottom line was not what the manager had in mind. This buffet should, in my opinion, research and present a different policy. While it is appropriate to have a policy that minimizes cost vs price and protects against abuse by customers, having some flexibility will more than pay for itself when customers are treated with more respect. As persons as elderly people who don't consume vast amounts of food even at a buffet, we were badly disrespected. read more

I believe that the purpose of restaurant 'tips' is to reward waiters and waitresses for service above and beyond the call of duty. The performance of one's duty is covered by something called wages - paid by the restaurant owner. I'm not responsible for paying employee wages; that's a job for the employer. So I was shocked and angered to receive chastisement from a stone faced waiter at the Wonderful Buffet who came by our table tapping his tray, uttering "TIP". In a demanding manner. I don't respond well at all to demands such as this, so any chance of a tip was, quite literally, off the table. I've only had two occasions where I was hustled in this manner by aggressive waiters. I resent it. I will not be marked in this manner. I still go to the Wonderful Buffet but I will only 'tip' for service above and beyond the call of duty! Don't like your wages? Why is the owner at the Wonderful Buffet such an asshole? Everytime we've gone she's always been rude, but today she was unbelievable. My husband, myself and our 1 year old are sitting eating dinner, and the owner comes up and says "we don't waste food." I smiled nodded and simply apologized thinking that my one year old not eating the small handful of shrimp of his plate wasnt a big deal, but understanding where shes coming from I simply nod and smile. She says it repeatedly until I say "yes, i understand. okay. Thank you." She walks away I think nothing of it- obviously my kid isnt going to eat anymore so we get up to pay, and as we get up to the register the woman starts up with the same thing as before "you waste too much food" we told her we were sorry, but our son was done eating and it was literally just shrimp. She said "no it was shrimp and 5 pieces of sushi" (she had been walking by our table AS we ate and actually counted sushi that was on a mostly eaten plate - my husband had already eaten it before we got up to pay, so she was wrong it was just the shrimp) we disagreed and told her once again it was just shrimp, and then my husband proceeds to offer her more money- on top of our bill (to avoid any issues ) and she says "no no you waste too much food, I'm not doing business with you." So of course we say don't worry we wont come back, we pay and leave. Terrible experience. If you or your kids may waste even a bite of food don't go there. read more

Been here many times and the food is pretty good. Tonight the pineapple was bitter. Hot and sour soup is great. the soft ice cream is some of the worst I've had. I've complained to them quite a few times, but the never fix it. Got 2 cones tonight and very runny ( as usual ), it is very bland, no vanilla flavor. How hard is it to fix the ice cream so you can have a cone? read more

I've been here probably half a dozen times, and will say this: Definitely go in normal 'lunch' or 'dinner' hours if you want the best quality food...if you don't mind the noise, that is. When it's crowded, you won't hear yourself think, mostly because you're within arm's length of 20 other tables at all times. Food will not be as fresh in 'off' hours of the day, (between 3-5 PM for instance). We've typically gone at 1 PM, 6-7 PM and it's great. My 3 star is because of seating, primarily. If you are seated in the main dining area, you will definitely feel you're being scrutinized on your plate when you walk past 20 tables full of people. Service is decent, we waited for awhile for drinks once, but that was forgivable. Got to say, if you're a fan of seafood, you'll have a ball here. There's everything you can imagine. The butter shrimp and walnut shrimp are to die for. Not a big fan of the wontons in the soup or the crab rangoon, only people I've seen that make them sweet as a dessert (I'm more of an appetizer eater than anything so I notice that), but everything else is decent. Nice selection of desserts and drinks, fruit, and typically have 2-3 different soups every time we've been. Great...now I'm hungry! read more

DO NOT EAT HERE: *I was MOCKED, INSULTED, and BLAMED for wanting to eat a raw piece of PORK. *The food tasted like it was FULL OF MSG. I had a piece of sliced pork chop that was completely brown on the outside. Ate the first bite and saw that it was cooked so did not think the other parts would be raw. Talked to two waitresses, first one said hesitantly that she thinks it will be okay to eat raw pork, after being shocked that it was so red. Second waitress told me to go to the doctor and bring back a "permission slip" from the doctor and it will be "no problem". Then manager came and told me to wait on the side so they can help another customer first. The one behind me. Talked to the manager and explained what happened. I was told that I looked really tired and sickly. She does not know if I am going to be sick from her raw food or another place. Then proceeded to say that people do not eat raw pork if they saw it. I told her I did not see it because I did not expect to be chewing on a raw piece of pork at a the buffet. I pointed to the waitress who saw the pork. She then continued to say that I cannot bring a "permission slip" from the doctor tomorrow because she will not know that if I get sick it will be from here and insists that if I wanted to, I will need to go to the hospital. I explained why I did not want to go to a hospital because it is more expensive for me than to go to the family doctor tomorrow and her staff told me to bring in the "permission slip". I was ignored and she kept repeating the same thing. I could see her waiters nearby who works for her all speaking in Chinese. She finally says I won't need to pay for my meal and I just left. Right when I was leaving, I could hear the manager in Chinese almost laughing at me. I just wanted to go out after a long day and eat. I did not planned on eating or wanting to eat a raw piece of pork but was treated like a criminal and ridiculed. Even my waitress was shocked at how pink the meat was. I was horrified, INSULTED, and MOCKED as I was talking and she was grinning when my hands were shaking. I was trying to be as clear and respectful while she stood there accusing me like I am too stupid and probably too poor to get a lawyer. read more

For this price, it's pretty good. With the seafood, I give it one more star. The sushi is pretty good for what you pay for. Great portion of meat selections, and selection of fruit for dessert. Not only was the food slopped all over part of the countertops, but the Chinese boss yelled at us, arguing crudely in bad English, because the businessman who treated us to dinner paid lunch prices and we were not warned that there would be surcharges if you stayed past their 4 p.m. time limit. Therefore, instead of going out to the car to pay them, I listened to her offensive attitude for a couple minutes until I realized: Never coming back to this dump. What disgusting "service". Why would I pay for something that it their mistake? They like to cuss out first-time customers, so why give them a second chance? Nightmare. HIGHLY recommend that everyone see the "14 hidden" reviews, in which honest people trash this place for its overall revolting and reprehensive treatment of what other restaurants call GUESTS. For the price, it's a great deal. Much better than average Chinese buffet food (not stellar, but well done), a very wide variety, sushi is not bad, and did I say a really wife variety??? There's something for everyone. We like going for lunch because it's only $8 (dinner is almost twice as much and unless you're really crazy for greasy fried shrimp, greasy walnut shrimp, or really think crab legs), I'm really not sure dinner is worth the extra tariff. The place is mobbed, so best time for lunch is early or late (try 11am or 2pm). 26 mar 11.. first time dining at Wonderful Buffet... Food was just like the name "wonderful, delicious, tasty" esp. baked oysters were very fresh. didn't have chance to get any snow crabs. Salads were fresh. Chicken teriyaki was also tasty... After eating, didn't feel thirsty at all and that meant they didn't add too much MSG. Price was very reasonable; seats were comfortable. would definitely go back again!! read more
