This was our second time at Woodstack it was a awesome experience from making the reservation on the phone to finishing Desert everyone was very friendly always made sure you didn't need anything. the food is awesome, the prices are reasonable! we got four drinks(alcohol beverages) two appetizers Two pizzas and a Nutella pizza with cannoli ice cream and it came to $100 I would say that's a fair price! 3.5 stars Made a reservation for lunch, and was sat up against every other table despite an empty dining room. I realize places do this to make it easier on the servers, however it is incredibly annoying when it's unnecessary. Would much prefer to be sat atleast a table or two away from other parties. Complimentary bread basket- oh my god... phenomenal. Additional baskets are $1 per person, but it's not necessary as they give you enough. But would still be worth it as it is THAT good. Can also buy loaves of bread for 4-7$ to take home. Haven't done that but would absolutely consider it for future home party charcuterie boards. Meatball sub was ok. Nothing spectacular. Good size to split but semi tasteless. Specialty pizza came out fast, great crust from the brick oven, thin crust but not crispy or too thin. Only issue is that they are 10-12", barely shareable, and cost $18+. Would be fantastic for $12, but $18 is a bit much, with the specialty margarita being $21. Tried to order seasonal cocktails but they were out of nearly everything, apologized, and brought us a "new/updated menu" which was a fresh printed similar menu without the cocktails listed. Overall great lunch place, relaxing vibe, quite large inside. Felt a bit rushed as everything came out so fast and then the check came. We went to the Woodstack to celebrate a rare evening we didn't have holiday plans or errands. The food and service was impeccable. I would normally post a five star review. No complaints, we were feeling very good, and then we got the bill. The only unexpected charge was the 3.75% extra added to our total for simply using a credit and/or debit card. We had been as recently as the summer (2021) and there was no such fee for using cards. I think it's a total garbage new policy and a total rip off. If you don't have cash for your next visit to the woodstack, figure on paying 3.75% on top of your bill. I would add please don't take this out on your servers, they have heard plenty of complaints and it's not their idea. In fact, I think they're instructed not to mention this fee until they give you the check. read more

Our experience started off poorly when a manager chastised the host right in front of us while we were waiting to be seated. It wasn't even busy and it made everyone uncomfortable. The happy hour menu had good options and the Tuscan ribs were excellent but for a place bragging about everything being homemade it was off putting that the blue cheese in the dressing for the wings was cubed. The olives for the martinis were inedible and also stuffed with some type of cheese product that was unpleasant. The fresh bread and salads were good, but the pizzas weren't cooked evenly which made them hard to eat. The crust was really tasty though. An aesthetically-pleasing and delicious pizza spot made for a memorable birthday dinner. I've passed by the original Wood Stack in Pine Brook (North Jersey), and when I saw they opened up a second spot in Central Jersey, I had to check it out. AMBIANCE: Walking inside, I was in awe as I looked around the vast, open two-story space and decorated with the cabin/cozy feel. We were seated on the second floor, so we were able to overlook the whole restaurant. FOOD: The food came out in a timely manner, hot, and presentable. - Maple Chile Chicken Wings ($16): I definitely tasted the maple flavor, but wasn't as spicy as I thought it might be from the "chile" title. This is served as 12 pieces and almost got me full before all the other entrees came out. - Tuscan Kale Salad ($10): Refreshing, especially with the lemon vinaigrette zest. - Margherita Pizza ($12): I order this every pizza place I go. It tasted like most Margheritas out there, nothing too unique or special, but then again, it's a Margherita. Sweet and simple. - Nina Pizza ($17): This was our "let's try something unique" pizza choice - it was flavorful. The mozzarella was the most prominent taste. Good food, horrible service. Will not return. Just got back from dinner at Woodstack Metuchen, our first time here. We arrived at 4:50pm without a reservation. The host kindly told us there would be about a 20 minute wait, despite many open tables. He explained they had quite a few reservations, so they could not seat us, which was understandable. After about 15 minutes my wife and I decided to sit at the bar. After about 5 minutes of not being acknowledged, we knew that the service was going to be slow. The gentleman eventually came over and gave us a cocktail menu. We then overheard the bartenders explaining that someone did not show up and someone called out. I have worked in restaurants my entire life and know how tough that can be. Especially on a Saturday night. After another few minutes a very helpful blonde female bartender took our order. To drink, I had an almond old fashioned and my wife had a lemonade. Both were on point. For dinner, we ordered the burrata pizza and rigatoni norma. As we sat at the bar you could tell that the bartenders were overwhelmed. They do not have any fountain sodas, and all bottled sodas are kept behind the bar. As a result, the service bar was non-stop, leaving the rest of the bar with one bartender. Others around us received bread, so we grabbed the gentleman bartender as he rushed by and asked him for some. The bread, sourdough was really tasty. Our main courses came out very quickly, which was food because we were hungry. The pizza was excellent. My wife also enjoyed her pasta dish. The bartenders never had a moment to check back on us or offer another drink. There was another young man behind the bar who seemed to be a bar-back, and finally after about 10 minutes with empty water glasses, refilled our waters. After we both were finished, we sat for about 10 minutes with plates in front of us. I had to flag down the bar-back and ask him for a small box for my 2 slices of pizza. After he got us the box and cleared our plates, my wife wanted to see a dessert menu. Once again, we had to flag down the bar-back who gave us one. After deciding to pass, in fear of having to wait another 20 minutes to order, we asked the gentleman doing the service bar if we could get our check. He continued making drinks and never brought it over. After another 5 minutes, we stood up and I handed my credit card to the young lady and asked her to close me out. As she brought over the check, she apologized for the poor service. This experience was a reflection of poor management. There were at least three managers walking around. One of the managers should have jumped behind the bar to help out the bartenders. As I stated, it was clear they were short staffed and I know that happens from time to time. Unfortunately, the managers did not seem to care and left the bartenders to run around trying their best to meet the needs of their guests. It was obvious other guests were also dissatisfied and throughout the entire experience, the managers could not care less. The only time a manager walked behind the bar was to count the bartenders drawer, probably because of a shift change. The food was good. The pizza was a Neapolitan style and cooked to perfection. The burrata on top was fresh, creamy and really delicious. Unfortunately, the service was some of the worst I have experienced in a long time and as a result, will not return. read more

What a great restaurant! Wood Stack has looked so busy every night since opening that we decided to go late on a Sunday morning, for an early lunch. First impression, a beautiful facility. The exterior exudes the care and detail the owners put into the renovation; everything is new, top quality, and classy . . . from the walkways to the lightposts to the parking lot. Impression upon entering, wow! High ceiling, maybe 30 feet, dramatically accented by lighting fixtures, large photographic mural, artwork . . . and a mezzanine. Far exceeding what you would ever expect for a restaurant with "pizza" in its name. The menu too, a pleasant surprise. While I was absolutely expecting a menu full of pizzas and Italian inspired dishes, I really didn't expect some of the delicious-sounding breakfasts offered, which the folks at the next table were raving about. We also noticed on the menu they actually make their own pasta, bread, pizza dough, and a lot of their other items. My wife ordered a 12" pizza, "Diavlo Something-or-other," which was thin and crisp and beautifully flavored with just the right level of spice and heat; this is the first, and only, time I ever heard my wife describe food as "awesone." I had Squid Ink Pasta with shrimp, which was prepared with nduja and pangrattato, and was simply delicious. I could go on and on about this place, it's great. We decided to finally give this place a try after my sister recommended it . She's a frequent flyer here .we didn't have a reservations we decided to come last minute but I highly recommend you have one if you can . We waited 25 minutes for a party of 4 around 7 o'clock on a Wednesday night which wasn't bad . I love the lay out and decor we sat upstairs which was nice overlooking the entire restaurant. They have a few nice wood tables that sit parties of 6 and several tables on the main floor. They have a pretty large menu selection of pizzas, pastas and several different appetizers and salads . We tried the bolognese, bucatini and rigatoni pastas which were all delicious . I also ordered the Tartufo pizza I love truffle oil and mushrooms which is a great combo but the pizza was missing something it definitely needed more bite but I enjoyed it . The Bibb salad is definitely a must try loved the dressing that was on it . The meatballs were superb perfect texture and full of flavor this a must try as well !! The place does not suck. I highly recommend dinning here. Since my relocation to Pa., our dinner choices have been very sketchy. They are either chain restaurants or eating establishments that do not have a clue. After 8 years of mediocre food, we happened across a Italian restaurant in Newtown. Vecchio Osterio by Pasquale was definitely a find and we recommend it highly. We could not wait to bring our friends from Jersey to try it out. However on our last visit they took us over to the Woodstack in Metuchen. That placed ruined all the Italian restaurants in Pa. The food was amazing. The sauces, presentations and service was top notch. Although we started off with a app of meatballs and a grandma pizza we could have stopped right there Unbelievably good. I think Woodstack has the potential to do really well in Metuchen! They certainly pulled off an impressive renovation of what was previously a bank. The interior is really pretty. I would say the big pro is the food, the neutral was the drinks, and the con was the service. Food: Super delicious. Everything we got, we loved. The Burrata pizza was awesome, as was the Diavolo and Pizza Barese. Pizza was cooked perfectly and tasted great, right down to the crust. The flaky salt on the burrata was perfect. We really enjoyed the rice balls too. It seems like they use high-quality ingredients, and I think a lot is made in-house, like the mozz. Drinks: Okay. One of the three I tried was really good, the others were so-so. We all had craft cocktails. They did arrive warm, though, which might have affected the taste. Service: Lots of missteps, hopefully just due to it being near opening. We made a reservation but had to wait (no problem) but weren't offered menus to look at. No one seemed particularly friendly :( At dinner, were we supposed to get bread? It seemed complimentary (all other tables had it) but I still have no idea. Our cocktails arrived warm and the server apologized that they'd been sitting out a while because they were busy. From the time we arrived, it was almost 40 mins till our drinks were served. Because the food was really good, I'll definitely be back, and that's why I stuck with 4 stars. My next trip will be during a less busy time, so we'll see how it goes! read more

As promised, I came back to try the Arancini rice balls and pasta and they did not disappoint! The rice balls had short rib and peas inside and were served with a delicious marinara sauce. The pasta is house made and had the perfect chew. We got two half portions ($14 compared to $24 for full size) so we could try two pastas and it was actually more than enough food! Dined here for the first time this weekend and I'm already counting down the days until I go back. I can't wait to eat my way through the menu because every item is enticing. The service was great and the atmosphere is even better. I also think the prices are modest for the premium quality of the food. Definitely start with the house made stracciatella caprese, it is out of this world and unbelievably fresh. We ordered the lamb shank special which was cooked to perfection and fell right off the bone. The Tagliatelle Carbonara (also a special) was cooked perfectly al dente and the truffle oil was a delicious addition. And don't leave without trying the butterscotch budino, it's is light and creamy and the perfect amount of sweetness to end your meal. It is so nice to have another great restaurant in the area and not another chain. Happy to add Woodstack into our rotation of dining options. read more

Spent close to 1k on a family reservation for my grandfather's bday. Got kicked out by the manager for over staying our reservation time "never mentioned to us" . They had a time limit for our stay but not a time limit for accepting our money when it came to drinks towards the end of the dinner. Hello! How cute is Metuchen to begin with and right off the NJT train a short walk to this place. The menu is amazing, and we ordered the brussel sprouts to begin with and each ordered a pizza. I ordered the burrata pizza (I added pepperoni cups and Mike's hot honey pizza), and my friend ordered the margerita pizza. Both great sizes and fresh. We started off with the mimosas and then transitioned to a carafe of the red non spicy sangria, both of which were fresh. Now that is been a few hours since consumption, I have no headache which leads me to believe there was qualify alcoholic beverages in those beverages. I have been to Wood Stack a few times for dine in as well as take out. Dining in is definitely the way to go. Take out food is good but they also offer to go alcohol. The sangria is really good but depending on who makes it determines how good it is. It's not consistent and this is my only reason for 4* versus 5*. As for the food, everything is delicious. Stopped by here today to celebrate my uncle's 70th birthday. Managers/Owners are the same guys that ran Novita Bistro in Metuchen. Easy to get to, but parking can be a little tough when it's busy, however there is some street parking available. Inside the place is nice and open and there's a second floor for bigger parties. Started out with a couple of apps - the Meatballs and the Maple Chili Chicken Wings. Both were very good. The Meatballs were nice and juicy and polenta underneath was a nice touch. The wings were good as well with a nice little kick from the chili, but it not overpowering. Main course a couple of us ordered the Peppa Pig pizza. The combination of meats were delicious and if you like your crust a little burnt and crunchy, this is the place. The staff and our server Allison were great. Only negative is that it took a long time for us to get our main meals, hence the three stars. read more

We called more than a month ago to make a reservation for 17 people. At that time we STRESSED that one person in our party is disabled and that we could NOT be seated upstairs, we needed to be downstairs. Again we STRESSED this point more than once. Once we arrived we were told we were being seated upstairs. We told them this was not feasible and asked if we could be accommodated downstairs. We were told flat out that NO, nothing could be done. We had family members travel over an hour to get there, we had made reservations a month earlier and because they failed to note our request that we be seated downstairs we basically had no choice but to leave. After your restaurant making such a huge mistake and basically leaving us stranded and hungry on a Sunday night, you didn't even have the decency to offer us a free round of drinks for our trouble. This is beyond disappointing and I will be sure to leave you a bad review online. Woodstack was highly recommended to us, and you fell far short of the mark. read more

The pizza was delicious but I also got pasta I wasn't able to get a picture of but it was penne vodka. As I am vegetarian, I am happy there were a lot of accommodations for me. The pasta was good but just a bit tooo al dente for me. I would have liked it a bit more cooked but it was still very tasty.
