We both got the sogogi gukbap one original and one spicy. Flavor was pretty good and not too salty. THERE'S SO MUCH MEAT and the rice bowl is larger than the usual size at korean spots. Woodam was very busy when I stopped by for a late weekend lunch -- the place is deceptively large, but didn't have that many tables -- and our party of two had to wait roughly 15-20 or so for some spots at the bar to open up. It was quite comfortable overall, and it was nice to see the plating and prep for some of the dishes in front of us. The menu is not very large, so we ordered one each of the sogogi-gukbap and the suyuk to share. The sogogi-gukbap was so delicious. The broth was very fragrant without being too salty or oily (paired so well with the bowl of rice), and each slice of beef was really tender and flavourful. The banchan were all really delicious, too -- egg salad was surprisingly good.  The suyuk was also quite delicious, but a little less consistently so. Some cuts of meat were so soft and practically melted in your mouth (tasted amazing with the soy/aioli sauces), but some of the more tendon-y cuts were a little harder to chew and weren't as flavourful. It was hard to compare the two dishes, since I felt the best slices from the suyuk were better than the sogogi-gukbap, but overall the sogogi-gukbap was a more well-rounded, solid meal. Price point was quite decent, and I think it was definitely worth the quality of this meal. I would love to come again sometime and try the tteokgalbi (basically the only other thing on the menu?)  -- it seemed quite interesting on others' tables, but we (correctly) didn't think we could finish it all haha. read more

If you want something with flavor, order the first item on the menu. The Sogogi Gukbap. It has a hearty broth and the meat is flavorful. The collagen soup is more collagen than lean meat. Pretty surprised I could get an authentic and hearty korean beef stew set with banchan for ONLY $16.50, located in the heart of Flushing!! It's never too hot for a comforting bowl of korean beef stew. Woodam only opened recently, but when I visited for dinner, the place was super busy and packed.  Their menu is small so you can't go wrong. The place is such a vibe. I remember the restaurants that were at this location were very old school hole in the wall Chinese restaurants. So the transformation that happened for this place is amazing. The food was great esp for the price point. And quick to come out. They gave so much tendon which we love and extra meat for the gukbap really give you extra. Next time I'll just leave it as normal soup. We got both the spicy gukbap and gomtang. The gukbap wasn't more warm than actually spicy tbh but something I don't mind. It is also def more depth in beef flavor than the gomtang. Gomtang was def cleaner soup which was what we were looking for. And loaded with tendon. I honestly love how this spot has a small menu!! You come here for one thing and that is beef! This place serves really delicious food at a great price. The sogogi gukbap is priced at $16.50 and comes with a large pot of beef soup with chunks of tender beef (falls right off the bone!) with rice and banchan. There are also two shareables on the menu when I dined last week: the lava rock cheese balls and beef slices. The lava rock cheese balls reminded me of arancini! Very delicious and had a great rosemary lime aioli for dipping. The beef slices were high quality. If you're only dining as a party of 2, maybe just get one app to share - two apps for 2 people is too much, considering how big the portion of the beef soup is! If you're with a party of 4, it's worth to try both apps and share amongst the group. I'm typically not someone who orders a non alcoholic drink with dinner (I just stick to water). But with only one specialty drink on the menu, I had to try, and it is so worth it. Try their Jeju Tangerine Fizz. Also so good. I ordered the sogogi gukbap as spicy while my partner ordered the original. He felt that the original, although delicious, was very much comfort food while the spicy version had more flavor. Side dishes were good too; however, the potato salad was quite bland, which I did not expect, but it is not a significant detail to lower my rating since the whole experience was so good. Charming new restaurant serving a small menu of Korean comfort food. I tried their suyuk and the meal came on a steamer in a bowl with a fire beneath it. Steaming hot and the server asked me if I'd like a bowl of rice to go with it too. It came with two sauces a light soy based one and ssamjang. I asked for kimchi since I enjoy the meat with some kimchi as well, they gave me a cubed radish kimchi and a cabbage kimchi which went great with the meal. I also tried their lava cheese appetizer which was like a meatball with cheese inside. My friends got the oxtail soup meant for 2-3 people and they enjoyed it very much. Service was great, super nice servers, got seated right away and they routinely topped off my water. While i really enjoyed the food here, we experienced issues with the service that damped the experience.. First off I want to say that the food here was good, I think everything is priced extremely reasonably, the food portions are good, I really like that everyone gets personal side dishes, the meat and the soup was nice and tender, and the soup itself was really good. My friends and I did however, have issues with the service. We felt that the waiters were very apathetic and they were just giving off the vibe that they didn't want to be there or be working at all. One of my friends walked in earlier to reserve a table, he was asked if he wanted to wait to combine two tables to fit us all or if he wanted to just settle for one of the booths. Having no idea how much space each tray would take up, he opted for the booth, thinking that we would also want more privacy. Immediately as the soup came in, we could tell that all the food was not going to fit on the table for a party of six. The table could only fit four trays max. When we brought this up to the waiter, he did not acknowledge the issue at all, and just shrugged, continue to stand there, making no attempt to help us despite there being empty tables open. We all stood there not knowing what to do. We ended up making the decision ourselves to split up and sit at another table that was open, and moved everything ourselves. Since some of us came later than others, we didn't have enough water cups for everyone. At the table that I sat in, we only had one cup of water, for three people. The waiter came by often to refill that singular cup, making no attempt to ask the rest of us if we wanted water. I felt like the service here was extremely negligent of the customers and it made the entire experience sour. I would definitely come back for the food, but I'd probably just get delivery or something because I would not want to sit through any of that again. Though, one of my friends actually came in earlier that day to get delivery, the waiters forgot about her food and she ended up waiting 30 minutes when the food was done in 10. She waited an extra 20 minutes for nothing and when she finally asked the waitress for updates on her food since she was in a rush that day, the waitress blamed her for not coming up to her to follow up on where her food was. She was speechless. Not only did they mess up but they shifted responsibility and blame onto her. Actually insane work.. TLDR; good food, pricing, and portion sizes. WOW. If I had to use one word to describe this place, it would be wow. I came here last Wednesday at around 12pm and I got their Beef Stew Set for $16.50. I got one for my mom and one for me and my god, it was so god. The broth was so clean, and the side dishes were delicious. For only $16.50, it's an amazing price. It comes with so much food, and it was so incredibly delicious. The soup comes with noodles (potato starch if I'm not wrong), and a bunch of different ingredients. Initial impression I thought the chef must be quite confident in his soup to gamble the success of his restaurant on 3 dishes and confident enough that people will return for more. Well he might be right because I've been back since my first visit. If you crave soup and rice, this is definitely a must try restaurant that gives you the comfort food feeling -- especially on a cold, winter day. I ordered the spicy sogogi gumbo, which is a Korean soup with slow-simmered beef. For $16, the meal comes with rice, seaweed, and unlimited ban chan. This is such a great deal because it's affordable and comes with much more food than you expect. The beef is super tender and delicious -- coming from someone who isn't a big meat eater. The spicy really isn't that spicy at all -- barely mild at most, if I'm being generous, so I do recommend that over the original soup because the spicy just adds much more flavor to the soup without being spicy at all. For spice lovers like me, you can ask them for more spicy sauce to add to your soup. It helps a bit but it doesn't get to the level of spice that will make you sweat -- don't worry! They also have a special drink called the Jeju tangerine fizz -- it's refreshing but I didn't order again the second time. It was only okay in my opinion.
