I went to the Wells Street Art Festival and had a great time! As the night wore on, so did a craving for a sit down meal! (Ode to my sad blistery feet) The guy at the door was super friendly, he actually said "hi there, welcome to Woodie's!" he was sending those that just wanted drinks upstairs to the big bar and was working efficiently freeing up space for folks like myself who came in hungry to get promptly seated and served down on the main level. Within minutes I had chilled water, a waitress greet me and since the QR code digital menu is cleverly divided between "Wings" or "Not Wings" it made it super simple to decide what to order. Woodie's is known all around the city for wings so Wings it was!! Tender, tasty and a solid 10/10 on satisfying my tastebuds ($13.99). You get to pick the sauce and I opted for the Nashville Hot & Sweet. A repeat for sure! I can only imagine how busy kitchen operations must be because the food came out super fast. Do they have a motto like don't leave the table hanging? I'd believe it if so. The friendly vibe didn't end at the door guy either. All staff was unmasked so you could see smiling faces happy to be back at work. Gah, I forgot how much I missed that. The music was happy too... I think maybe a retro 80's happy-go-lucky DJ spin. I loved it! Even my tired toes wanted to dance:) The only negative here is drunk patrons kept coming up to our table, leaving their empty glasses on our table and disappearing.... Uhmm seriously? Not cool. Maybe they need a trough for these clueless kids who never learned etiquette from their parents to properly dispose of their empty glassware. Also one bathroom and a big line to use it is a little ridiculous - especially when some are drooling drunk! Overall, Woodie's was an awesome cool casual & upbeat place to go and I was impressed by everyone on the staff for being non-stop on top of it!! So next time I'm feeling like wings & things, I'm coming back for more of Woodie's best! read more

This was my very first time here and I can acknowledge why some people like it but it's not my cup of tea. It was super loud and it was just giving off college bar vibe. BEWARE not for vegetarians/ pescatarians. I had to get a salad and remove the meat. My bf wanted to check it out and he didn't know that it didn't have any options for pescatarians like myself. Don't get me wrong, the salad was pretty good. I explicitly asked for dressing on a side but nevertheless it was still a solid salad. He enjoyed his food and ended up finishing my salad. Wanted to watch some basketball and figured we could grab dinner here. Started with their nachos and added chicken. The chicken was rubbery but everything else was good especially the beer cheese. After that we got a double order of wings: half teriyaki and half Korean style. These wings were amazing. Perfectly smoked to fall of the bone levels. Woodies keeps me coming back! A couple weeks ago a large group of my friends and I were bopping around the city and wanted a place to stay and finish the night. Woodies came through, no questions asked. We got to Woodies and the manager Gabe greeted and welcomed the 30 of us right in and secured a spot we could dance, laugh, eat & drink. I went here recently to try their "famous chicken wings." Accompanied by a Guinness Draught Stout Beer. It was SUPER CROWDED...but outdoor seating was available! The Manager Gabe was amazing! He was kind, professional and super friendly considering there were so many people on-sight both at the bar and wanting food. The food came quickly (which I got to go) and the beer was served by Gabe. 5 STARS FOR GABE-SUPER MANAGER... 4 STARS FOR THE WINGS.... The Wings came with sauces and they were fried. This is a young haven, it gets crowded, it gets loud, it gets rowdy, people drink too much beer and booze, all in a good way though. It is also an Ohio State bar, the day I was there, Ohio State was on a bye week and the place was still insanely packed for college football during the daytime. I was in with my wife and son to grab a bite and bev, we sat upstairs. The service was friendly. If you happen to sit upstairs in the afternoon, know that if you are anywhere near the window you will be blinded by the light, so either bring your shades or pick your seat accordingly. We ordered off the menu, nothing special to report regarding the food, the onion soup was probably the worst experienced, the stacked BLT was mostly bread, etc etc, its bar food, what did you expect. People here are not having a dining experience, they are drinking. Two things I did notice 1) the female ratio is higher than the boys 2) They have three bathrooms upstairs, two of which are devoted to the ladies, I thought that was a nice gesture. Will you find Chicago's infamous $3 PBR tallboy here? Not for $3 you won't, que pena. My husband and I spent a lovely afternoon with our 17 year old son at the Chicago History Museum and we ended up at Woodies after pursing the area restaurants on yelp. Our son specifically picked Woodies because it looked like they had some killer burgers and he was not disappointed with his burger. We should have realized that any place on Well street on a Saturday afternoon was going to be crazy busy with a much younger crowd. Not being city dwellers, this slipped our mind. We walked into a very noisy packed house full of individuals that were mainly in their 20's. The games were rolling, the fans were cheering, and there were beer towers everywhere! At one point I ended up with a good amount of beer on my back when someone from the table behind be let the tap overflow onto his table, then used his menu to fling the beer off the table - the majority of it landing on my back. When I looked back with quite the shocked look on my face he didn't even apologize. I hope the rest of Woodie's customers have better manners. Our two servers were frantically busy, but they tried to be attentive and were friendly enough. Our Bloody Marys were two dollars more each than what was quoted to us, and my husband's tall boy PBR was much more expensive than what he's paid at other establishments. As I mentioned before my son had a burger with a side of mac and he was very happy with hit. My husband ordered the stacked BLT, which he felt was heavy on the bread and light on the toppings. I had the French onion soup and it was hands down the most disappointing French onion soup I've ever ordered...it was broth with a few onions, a large chunk of bread and a sprinkle of cheese....I've never had French Onion soup not covered in cheese. I guess I missed on the menu that Woodies adds a service fee for using credit cards and I they give a discount for using cash. This absolutely caught me off guard. I researched it, and it is legal....it didn't used to be. Upon some reflection I decided that Woodies food prices are pretty low compared to many other restaurants in the city, and I do work for a non-profit organization and know that credit cards fees add up, so I guess I can understand the need. I do think in the future we will leave Woodies for the younger and more hip crowd. read more

Amazing wings! My boyfriend and I came after a comedy show at Zanies and while it was listed as a Dive bar I would have to disagree. The place was beautiful and has great vibes however it's definitely not a dive bar. The bartenders and staff were amazing, made great drinks, offered great conversation and did an amazing job recommending wings and flavors to try! I would definitely come back and recommend to others who are in town. The prices definitely reflect old town, I would be weary of this. Do not expect "dive bar" prices. Due to this inaccurate description and prices. I will be rating this as 4.5 out of 5 stars. We booked two Purdue watch parties for 60 plus people upstairs at Woodies this past weekend. The event staff was extremely communicative and made sure all requests were met. The DJ was incredible and had personalized images on the screens, songs known to the Purdue fans played at games, the fight song, even the hype videos that Purdue put out on socials. EVERYTHING and EVERYONE was great! The wings and cheese burger all so flavorful....and the fries are the best I've had in years- crispy outside soft inside! We had mixed sauces for wings: bbq and Hawaiian bbq. The burger ingredients were sooooo fresh! The drinks: I was advised that the Long Island would be $20..was told because some might think it's expensive so it better to know upfront.....wasn't offended but I do miss the $7 drink days lol. The drink wasn't strong which I appreciated. It was really good and also the Cosmo! My friend had 2 kettle ones with cranberry. We love that the drinks didn't taste watered down! The area: it was around 7 on a Saturday evening and people were surely out! Only drove around once for street parking-not bad! Environment- TV's everywhere with sports. One had music videos playing! The music was actually ok. Pretty loud but we still could have a conversation without screaming! The crowd is younger I would say considering I'm almost hitting 50 but we felt comfortable! The decor is pretty cool...The lower level wasn't as crowded...there's a third level as well! The staff was very attentive even while busy! Will for sure be going back. I like the time we went because I have a feeling anything after 9 or 10 it may be more club-ish! Which isn't bad either! Bathrooms: there is one on main floor and two downstairs and I believe one upstairs(all gender) I used both downstairs...people we have to do better....at some point we can't blame the establishment for the cleanliness and tissue all on the floor And staff should've have to come every 5 minutes to tidy up after grown people! Oh boy, Woodie's Flat is slowly growing on me with each visit. I must admit that I have managed to only order the chicken and waffle bites during each of my visits but trust me when I say they are so worth it. One day I will manage to order something beyond the chicken and waffles bites but I am not ready for such a big step. Over the last couple of Saturday's I have frequented Woodie's after my kickball league. It's become our go-to place because they are reasonably close to the Lincoln Park fields and they really cater to adult sports leagues. You can look at all the marketing material on the tables or bathroom walls advertising their willingness to sponsor teams. The wait staff at Woodie's is very friendly. You should expect to show your ID at the door if you visit on Saturday or Sunday during peak brunch hours. Woodie's has reasonably priced food and the dishes that I have observed at my table got great reviews. If you're looking to take your brunch to another level they offer a mimosa package for roughly $20 to $25. They also offer a mimosa pitcher if you don't want to commit to the package but still have to embrace #brunchlife. I cannot wait until my next Woodie's visit! read more

Overall: With a great atmosphere, specials, and food, Woodie's is a step above the rest in the Old Town area. The good: Every time I've been here the food has hit the spot. It's high-brow pub fare, but in a good way. They have tons of burgers, sandwiches, apps, etc. to choose from, and they're all tasty. The fried chicken sandwich I got was juicy, filling, and bacon-y. Plus, sweet potato fries, enough said. The service every time has been friendly, and the atmosphere is effectively small and homey.
