Currently writing this review as I sit as my table here bc i felt it was that important. So me and my girlfriend came here with some friends to grab some drinks and snacks before we went out to dinner for our birthdays. What a nice experience! They had no tables open inside when we got there and we were seated outside. It was really hot but it was okay. We simply asked if the umbrellas could be tilted a little because we were SWEATING, but a man named Carlos so kindly just took us to a table inside. We were then given BJ shots which were great. Carlos was great and his energy definitely made it fun. Once we had a table inside we were given complimentary shots at half time during the bears game, which was pretty sweet. a lady named Hannah came around and handed them out and she was super sweet. Ahhh-mazing! Have visited here for brunch with friends from out of town twice now - that's how good it it. I dont know why it took me this long to write a review on woodies. First off, love this place. One of my favorite spots in old town, let alone the city. I dont know what the hiring process is here but they do an amazing job hiring great people here. Hostesses are very welcoming, barbacks work extremely hard all night, bartenders are very quick, and the managers are amazing. Quick shout outs to Tia (bartender), Emma (bartender), kaitlin (bartender) Gabe (manager), and Shawn (head manager). If it wasnt for all these people, the bar wouldnt be what it is today. Its because of all these genuine people why the bar does so well. If they dont have equity in the bar, something is wrong. Whoever the owner is, please consider these people. I have lived in Chicago for seven years and can confidently say these are the best wings in the city! And I'm a wings GUY! Nashville hot is my personal favorite flavor, but if you prefer saucy style over dry rub I'd recommend the Korean BBQ. Classic Buffalo also never disappoints. In addition to the great food, Woodies is a great environment to watch sports or just hang out with friends. My buddy ordered the double layer nachos with chicken which is large enough to split for two maybe even three people and no joke probably some of the best nachos I've had in Chicago. A bartender drank too much, named Michael, he pushed my girlfriend over and had no remorse. I looked at him after and he stared me down. He wanted to fight me, started getting in my face, next thing I know two other bar tenders came over told me to calm down cuz he worked there. Meanwhile he was still staring and pointing at me. Woodie's is a great place to grab some drinks with the crew and watch some sports (specifically Ohio State sports)! I was there this past Friday for the Frozen Goose Egg Toss sponsored by Goose Island and it was a very fun event. Organized very well by the way thanks to the awesome staff and manager Toria! Good place and good people. My significant other had the orange chicken special which was awesome. I had the Mac Attack burger which was everything I could have wanted and more. My friend and I came here for dinner and drinks before going to a show at Second City, which is just steps away from Woodie's. There are two floors, and we sat upstairs, which was less crowded than the first floor on this Friday night. We didn't realize this was a OSU-themed bar until we walked in, and I think my Ohioan friend enjoyed it. They have drink/food specials for every day of the week, and on Friday, they have $6 Budweiser tallboy + shot of Jameson/Fireball/Jack Daniels/Malort (choose 1), so we had to indulge. For food, I got the Southern salad with fried chicken (choice of grilled or fried). It was a pretty average salad; the chipotle ranch dressing was not very flavorful, and the fried chicken was a little dry. The atmosphere was dark, pretty loud, and good for drinking with friends. I would come here again for the drinks and atmosphere, but probably not for the food. read more

Okay. Before you all start scratching your heads wondering what I was doing in this place, a place that is clearly for a younger crowd than the one I run around with, I was there for Sunday brunch. I think the manager was as surprised as we were that we were there as he came over and warmly welcomed us, telling us after we asked, that the average age was usually in the mid 20's but if we came early in the evening, we'd be okay. Ha! Made me laugh! Figured we took his average age up for the month!!! But back to brunch. Not bad although know that it's a bar that serves some egg products and pancakes. I was in a good place with the salad I ordered but my friend's scrambled eggs and bacon were a little uninspired. But they got my other friends special order perfect so big points for that. And if you like cheap drinks, the mimosas and bloodies are on sale during brunch which is perfect for the clientele. The inside is actually very cute with sort of a northwoods ambiance. AndI liked the multi colored stools around the communal tables. Our server was nice as was the bartender and the food came up relatively quickly. All in all, I doubt Woodies is going to be my new "go to" spot, but in a pinch when you want something and all the other places are packed, it's worth a stop in to enjoy a bloody out front watching the world walk by. read more

Maybe next time I'll be bold enough to try the burger with fried egg and bacon jam... because really, bacon jam. My partner had the French dip and said it was excellent. Our server was great, giving us just enough attention so we didn't feel ignored. We topped it all off with a skillet cookie . It did not disappoint. They make it fresh, so it was warm and delicious. If you get a chance to meet the manager Shawn, as we did, you might laugh and have a good time at both. Shawn came to our table and welcomed us just after we sat down. My wife asked him what he recommends and he told us the Bourbon Wings. Great call! He and our waitress were very helpful and welcoming throughout the night.
