I always count on this spot for my wild caught king salmon but this time, they messed up. I asked the butcher why there were two different cuts of salmon in the tray and which one was which and he did not know. He told me they were both wild caught king salmons but I knew something was off. I chose one and learned this was not the wild caught king salmon I usually have. Very disappointed with this situation and the store for allowing this mix up to happen. Please figure it out and don't let this happen again or I will have to go somewhere else. Stumbled onto this grocery store when I was cruising around Tiburon/Belvedere and stopped in. (Restroom was EXTREMELY clean, which was a good sign of quality and care! Thank you!) This is a medium-sized store but definitely one of those places where a foodie might want to take their time and wander the shelves and aisles. I was so impressed by all of the local products which celebrate the bounty of California and the culinary creativity of the North Bay. There's a lot of good stuff to choose from including a nice cold deli and chiller with prepared foods. I would definitely come back here again. The prices aren't cheap but actually struck me as about what you might expect for the quality, selection, and location. Also a great place to buy gifts for food lovers and edible souvenirs for yourself. Excited to try the fun jarred Santa Rosa-made pasta and pizza sauces I came home with. read more

After exploring the town of Tiburon, I worked up an appetite but was on a budget. So I walked over to the Woodlands Market to check out their deli and to go items. The market is in Tiburon Blvd a few blocks from the Main Street. I have never been here before so I did not have a clue on what to expect. Well I'm glad to report out that my first experience was great. The deli makes a mean tasty hot Rueben pressed sandwich that's reasonably priced. The salmon poke bowl was fresh tasting, all around yummy. That too was reasonably priced. They had multiple counter... deli food counter next to the bakery counter. The same staff work both areas. It was confusing for customers waiting for service. I got assistance without pulling a number because it wasn't busy, there were no other customers. Then it got super busy with a bunch of customers showing up as I was being helped. Some folks pulled a number while the earlier folks did not but were waiting patiently in an orderly line. Well as you would imagine, confusion followed regarding who was next in. I wanted to get one of the single serving size desserts (a tiny cake or tart which were $6), but did didn't as staff sorted out who was next in line. Play it safe; pull a number and ask for assistance. I walked about the market and noticed they have all the inventory and amenities of a full size grocery store. It's a cute grocery store on Main Street - kind of a "Whole Foods" vibe to it with prices that reflect that. They do have some neat products that you won't find anywhere, especially in the beverage and snack aisles. Customer service has always seemed ok to me, and I've been over here a few times. I will say, it's confusing where the line starts. Unlike Safeway or whole foods, you don't line up at the registers, you line up in one area. Convenient location and lots of cool stuff in the area! My hubby and I were in Tiburon doing a day trip and wanted sandwiches to eat outdoors since it was a nice sunny day. We stopped at Woodlands Deli counter to pick up our sandwiches. It's kind of a mess there with people standing all around the glass. There's no directions BUT found out you had to take a number and they call out your number when it's your turn. The man who helped us was nice. He wrote down our sandwich choices and condiments. It took him awhile but finally we got our food! We had a picnic lunch at Blackie's Pasture. When my hubby opened up his turkey sandwich, there was NO MAYO OR MUSTARD OR TOMATOES which he requested and wrote down. How do you miss the sauce condiment??? So he ate his sandwich dry. I'm shocked and disappointed. I have been a loyal customer for years of their grocery, meat and prepared foods. Today I bought three greek salads and 2 cut watermelons. All were spoiled with a due date of tomorrow: I admit that I didn't check each package thoroughly because I expect that they only have fresh items on the shelf. The woman who helped me with the return refused to take them all back because I didn't have a receipt. My credit card statement clearly showed I had visited the store that day for $50 and each item was tagged Woodlands market. She even smelled the salad and admitted it smelled bad. Moral of the story, always get a receipt and check the salads carefully. Better yet, go next door to Rustic and get a freshly prepared salad. Expensive. Not worth it. A Market the size of Home depot with no bathroom. I took a walk to this market after hanging out with my family. I passed the little school on the right and ended up here. In a lot shared with restaurants and quaint shops, Woodlands Market seems like a good idea. I love to have a small meal at a market, I love to save money. By taking advantage of their deli department and cold drinks, I can sometimes have a very good meal on the cheap market-style. In a pricey neighborhood like Tiburon, I thought grabbing lunch at this market would be a great alternative to the nearby restaurants. I should have gone to the restaurant. Woodlands Market is a little like Whole Foods when it comes to marketing to you. Labels bear catch phrases and buzz words to make you think that you are doing something better for the environment just by purchasing them. Each product has a gimmick, they are not just corn chips, they are 'blue' corn chips and therefore, they are 4 times more expensive. Chips almost ten bucks? *gasps* The produce. Nope! No way! Wax covered apples, like the miserable Ralph's variety, expensive and uninspiring. Many of the produce items were already cut and shrink wrapped. It all looks too processed and too far from the soil. Me? When I look for produce, I don't mind a little root still hanging onto the turnip or leaves still attached to the hothouse tomato. The way that mother nature turns out a carrot is the way I want to buy it. I'll wash it and peel it when I get home. The meat department. Oh brother. Previously marinated, packaged meats, trimmed bagged and..... 20 bucks per pound? *ominous music* Remind me NOT to shop here when I buy the ingredients to make my family supper this week! But it has to be cheaper to grab a quick meal at a market than going to a restaurant right? It has to be less expensive to eat at home than go out right? That had aways been true for me prior to my introduction to Woodlands Markets. I ordered some rotisserie chicken and hummus at the deli counter, a drink, and some corn tortillas. Total damage? Almost $15. *insert cuss word* "It will make more then one meal." I comfort myself with as I take my seat on the cute patio to enjoy my lunch. ****Did not enjoy the lunch.***** Chicken? dry, awful, poorly seasoned and swimming in.... oil? Grease? Gross. Hummus? Terrible. Just Awful. And the corn tortillas, aside from being the worst tortillas that I have ever had, were also the most expensive. Dry, bland, old. Take your organic and shove it! At my local market, the corn tortillas are made in house and come packaged still-steaming daily. They are also a fraction of the price. Sometimes, I can not make it to the car without stealing one. This market hasn't a restroom or facilities at all. I had to walk the plank, far, far away to use the ladies' room. And when I finally got there about a mile later? *See My Hunan restaurant review in Berkley for a lesson in third world bathrooms. Tiburon locals, you deserve better. I drove to the closest Trader Joe's Market to shop when I cooked dinner for the whole family the day after I visited this market. This used to be an amazing community Market. Now the prices are just offensive. 6.50 for a coconut water? 39.00 /lb for ribs? Greedy, and the staff are rude I waited to order a sandwich for 15 mins when no one else was waiting and about 7 men behind the counter ignored me. Then, I ordered a croissant sandwich that cost 10 dollars. The eggs were dried up and old, the croissant was so dry it fell completely apart leaving only crumbs, and the meat on it was crusty and dried up too. Gross, expensive, rude staff. Lovely little market on main Tiburon street. The hot food/deli area reminds us of Wegmans on the east coast. Such great hand made selections there! The staff is not rude as some reviewers will have you believe. At this time, the line for check out sits to the left of the lanes and you wait to be called. Sometimes the next cashier has to call out to the next person to go up. That's not yelling at people (even if the customer their small kids present.) The prices are sometimes a little high, but that's a specialty or gourmet store. I say give them a shot and visit the deli section. Try the salmon blt and get some cookies. read more

Woodlands is like the Nordstroms of supermarkets. High quality and even higher prices. So if you are someone who subscribes to the "you get what you pay for" philosophy, then this is the store for you. Pros: - plenty of free parking outside - it's never too crowded inside (unlike its Kentfield sister store) - wonderful selection of produce, meats, and other goodies - impressive deli + pre-made/take-home meals (perfect for lazy bachelors like me) - stellar wine selection Cons: - Well, let's be honest... it's the price. It's on par with (if not more expensive than) Whole Foods Market. - service can be pretty aloof here. You won't find the cheery/sunny/bell ringing cashiers that you might find at Trader Joe's. I know it's not the sexiest job in the world, but would it hurt to smile and engage in friendly chit-chat while you ring up my groceries? I was at your store to pick up food item from the deli. The men behind the counter were not attentive to the customers but just standing. I approached them regarding my order. They responded rudely when I accidentally slid mask to the side so they could understand me cause I couldn't understand them. The approach could of been more pleasant. The cashier was not friendly and looked like he didn't want to be there. There was no greeting. I feel the employees could be a bit friendlier despite how pricey the items are in the store. In the morning, your customers have limited time. Some are on their way to work, some are on a 15 minute break and just want some bacon. You can stand at the counter for a long time waiting. There are plenty of employees, but none will help. After waiting an incredible amount of time, they'll ask you to take a number so you can wait longer for a process that takes 30 seconds. I really want to pass along a great review about this market but there's several reasons holding me back. The biggest issue is the lack of customer service. The cashiers have constantly been rude. I can understand one or 2 instances but this seems to be a recurring theme with a couple of specific people. I believe culture is created by a business and it's unfortunately that this is the case. Otherwise, prices are high which I wouldn't mind if the products were unique. Unfortunately this just seems to fall short. The sandwiches are overpriced and disappointing. I'm shocked at the rudeness of one of the cashiers here - a tall young guy with medium brown wavy hair specifically and also the bald guy who was only marginally better. I stood patiently on the marked sticker and rather than tell me nicely what their procedure is during the pandemic, they yell and point and spoke to me very rudely (in front of my small children no less). The store was pretty empty so it's not like there were a lot of people waiting to pay. They were very kind to the other woman there who was white (and I am mixed) so it felt like discrimination which would really be unfortunate. I had previously found that although the prices were extortionate some of their products were good and even excellent (although they often sold expired items or items that had gone bad even though the expiry date was fine so perhaps this could be due to unsafe handling?) ZERO. I am a San Francisco native and a business person (marketing) /resident of Marin County. I have shopped here a number of times throughout the years. I am house sitting for a friend up the hill from the market KNOWING they were expensive but went in looking for one item. Remarkable!! It does not matter what product. There were not that many people in the store. I went to the bakery. I wanted one item. There were two of us in line. A clerk was at the check out idle. Three people at the deli, two idle. And some guy told a woman behind me that the "bakery person" was on "her break". Did not clarify how long. A number of idle employees who can't pull out an item and hand it over? EVERY item in the store $$$. A small container of ice cream for $11.99? A couple of cookies in a cellophane package...$17.99? The audacity of the manager, Stuart Ross, and the Santa family to charge the prices they do for the questionable "quality" of the deli products and the service in the deli and the bakery is absurd. But, it IS Marin, perhaps THAT is their excuse. I will not return and suggest others don't. read more

This market is like a wannabe Whole Foods - steep prices, but without the friendly atmosphere. I don't recall needing to take a number when ordering from the hot foods section, but I'm willing to acknowledge that I simply haven't stepped foot in a Woodlands for a long time, especially this location, and perhaps this has been a rule for quite some time now. In fact, I've literally only been here 3 or 4 times in my life. The deli had a few people waiting in line to order sandwiches while NOBODY was present around the hot food section. I made the assumption that I'd be able to order a couple of items. I was with a coworker who also agreed that it was a little absurd to make me take a number and wait with the others, but I obliged. Then, as I'm standing in line, I witness the same gentleman server allow another woman (should race be a factor?) to order right there - no number needed. Talk about discrimination...I was completely courteous during the interaction and couldn't figure out why I was told to follow the line while this woman received a different kind of treatment. It was rude and I was surprised to have experienced it here. Whatever that employee's reason may have been, it was unnecessary and as a paying customer, I believe that equal treatment should be applied. Kinda shock to see that shopping in this kinda community store can be seen as a 'luxury thing' to do in this town. We have too many stores like woodlands in the city. Come pay us a visit! We don't bite. And to the Latina cashier: you can stop eyeing people coming in and giving them dirty looks. I've been obtaining sandwiches from the deli for years at the Woodland Market in Tiburon. In the distant past under a different ownership and then under the current ownership, the homemade turkey portions in their sandwiches in the deli were huge. You couild take out half the turkey for another meal. Today I purchased the same sandwich and the turkey was almost invisibile. The sandwiches get built into a very large one with all the additions of condiments including tomato, lettuce, cucumbers, etc. but the size of the turneky portion was embarrasing. The form to fill out I believe said all the meats to choose from were $9.95 and it would cost an addional $1.50 for what I know is a tiny slice of cheese. I was charge $10.99 for the sandwich without the cheese. Maybe I overlooked the price of the turkey to be $1.00 more but I don't believe so. I just wanted to release my frustration by writing this critique. read more

Still salty everything in deli. But have to comment on the really atrocious bags in the produce dept that replaced the really nice plastic bags. These thin, odd feeling bags do not keep produce fresh at all and will cause it to spoil right away. The best test was when we put two slices of bread in one of the bags, which dried out & were as hard as rocks within a day. We used to put a couple of slices of bread in the previous nicer plastic bags, which kept the bread fresh & soft for two weeks. Even Whole Foods which tried bags similar to the ones Woodland's is now using got rid of them and is using a better bag. Love Woodlands but please consider bringing back a better bag as we have to get other bags to replace the Woodland bags every time we purchase produce. read more

Good espresso machine coffee is important to many people, including me. I used to go to Woodlands market daily for coffee and lunch. Sometimes twice a day. But they just got suckered by a new coffee supplier (Equator Coffee) with wild claims of superior quality. Turns out better quality organic coffee tastes noticeably bad. Prices are up too (about 20%) for coffee that is now undrinkable and sour. I have spoken to at least 3 other people who had the same experience and no longer get coffee at Woodlands. It is a pity - because when they used Peets coffee in their excellent machine, quality was consistent, excellent and priced OK. Their espresso drinks were a huge draw to the store. EQUATOR must have the best sales people to sell crap roast coffee to so many business. I stopped getting morning coffee and stopped going for lunch too - because of the horrible sour crap organic coffee at a 25% price rise. People should speak up more - or the manager can never correct their mistake. I am certain they have lost more business from regular customers than they have made on price increases. Nice effort to be part of the community! For other items, I use Woodlands market as an emergency shop for items I really need. I live in Belvedere and I expect to pay a price premium for convenience and quality - but o-baby-Jesus the Woodland's Market makes Whole Foods feel like a discount store for the same items. Image how busy this store would be if it were priced correctly and the managers/owners listened to the customer feedback! We shall see. Until then I shop elsewhere and I drink really good coffee from other places that still know how to taste first before enlisting a new supplier. read more
