My parents and the rest of the family love hột vịt lộn/balut. My mom is very particular about the stage of maturity of the balut and talks to the guy to make sure she gets what she's looking for. I only noticed now that that they sell farm fresh chicken eggs also. They also have fresh quail eggs. They seem reasonably priced, so that's pretty cool. If I lived near, I'd probably by regular chicken eggs from them instead of the grocery store. I remember they once sold Vietnamese Coriander (Rau Ram) the particular herb that you eat with the hột vịt lộn, they still might. This is their wholesale location, but they have a counter and cash register for normal customers. My mom usually just stops by randomly, but I would call them for their hours of operation. In addition to hột vịt lộn, they specialize in eggs for research, vaccines, whatever you need chicken/duck eggs for.

So we decided to check out this place and it's totally worth it! We got the Cut Napa Cabbage Kimchi (1/2 Gallon, $14), which had really good flavor and was perfectly fermented. A couple more days and it was still good (ready for the fridge). We also go the Ponytail Radish (1/2 Gallon, $18), which was just made that day. So when we tried it, it definitely tasted fresh -- flavor was super good. The owner told us to let it ferment for a couple more days on the counter before putting it in the fridge. It was perfect. I'm curious to try a few other items there. Kind of wish they did samples!

It's definitely not the biggest but I think they have just about everything you would look for in a Farmer's Market. Lots of pre-cooked food options available so make sure to come hungry to try them all. The ones that are honorable mentions: the coffee booth that serves unique flavored lattes, the empanadas station (it is so moist and different than I've ever had anywhere else! - would highly recommend!), and the tamale station (most popular station I would say and I know why. The tamales are very flavorful and moist. The hot sauce also compliments it very well. Would highly recommend!) There were other cool spots that I would want to try next time: Cold Noodles, Filipino food, and a Mexican Zamba juice beverage booth and others! I like this farmers market mainly for the chicken eggs (kind reminder to NOT buy white eggs from the lady here. Her white egg yolk is not rich in color or flavor. It's basically what we the public throw away in the green cans, and its not organic nor safe beside the toxic chemicals they use to kill bugs. Thats from a former employees mouth. Not sure if that has changed but i did question the whole situation after seeing trash truck delivery. After using this in my yard last year i started to question is free really worth it. NOPE SORRY but not sorry. Ive even paid for truck loads prior to the change.

I finally took…read morea long drive deep into Escodido and was rewarded with some really nice, organic mushroom compost. There are mountains of compost, and all you need is a big car (ideally a truck) and some muscle to scoop them up. Mushroom compost is high in salt so you need to be careful not to use too much with fruit trees. On the other hand, vegetables love mushroom compost. They also sell all kinds of mushroom varieties (Portobello, Shiitake, King Oyster, Cremini, etc.) at their front office for a pretty reasonable price (around $12/lb). Overall, a great place to get free compost, buy fresh mushrooms, and enjoy a country scenery ride in Escondido.
