Fine dining restaurant above the Worcester dining hall. The quality of ingredients is top notch. Food is well prepared. We tried mussels salmon and salad. For the price it is very good deal. The ambience is nice and staff is very attentive. I'll come back read more

We visited the Commonwealth Restaurant located in Worcester Commons at UMass Amherst. Literally don't know how this place isn't packed every night. With the convenient location, upscale decor and reasonable prices, this spot would have been my dream place to take my parents during my undergrad. The new spring menu is amazing. The short rib bruschetta was so flavorful, the chicken Milanese was crispy and delicious, and the salmon had the best crispy skin. UMass dining is #1 for a reason. read more

My family ate at the Commonwealth Restaurant above the Worcester Dining Hall the evening before graduation. Everything from appetizers to dessert were absolutely delicious!! The menu had a variety of choices and the ambiance was simple but elegant. The staff were on top of everything and made us feel very welcome. I wish we had a chance before graduation to have tried this wonderful restaurant. It is not very large so I suggest making reservations. read more

All you can eat foods from around the world, everyday, for breakfast lunch and dinner. Excellent everyday and the servers are very nice. You have to bus your own dishes but it's worth it because the good is so good and the great variety. They even have vegetarian and dishes for religious practices. You've worked up the hungry, college student appetite, from trekking to class to class, not to mention all the energy used from studying. Being a college student you have the option of eating at the dinning halls. Fast, convenient and sufficient enough to get the job done so you can go about the rest of your day. For students attending the University of Massachusetts Amherst Worcester Dinning Commons, located in the Northeast residential area, might be one of your options. Worcester Dining Commons is one of four dining halls at the University of Massachusetts. UMass is known for it's excellent dining experience. They have been ranked the third best college campus dining in 2013 edition of the Princeton review. Most of the attention goes to Berkshire dining common located in the Southwest residential area, which probably a majority of people would consider to be the best. But for many others Worcester would probably come in a close second on the list of best dining commons on campus. Worcester is not as fancy and elegant as Berkshire, probably due to the fact that it is older, but all in all it gets the job done for hungry college students. Before attending college I had not been to many school dinning commons before. The only experience I had was with my high school dinning hall, which was very small and had a limited selection of foods. During a visit to Umass I was able to visit Worcester and was very impressed by the quality of food and the atmosphere. I figured the other dinning halls must be just as competent. Knowing that Umass has some of the top dinning halls in the country was definitely a plus in making my decision to come here. The crowd at Worcester are your typical college students. Sweat-pant, pajama wearing, sleepy, stressed out scholars. They are probably coming to the dinning hall to take a break from school work and enjoy time with friends. I would say that Worcester offers a lot of seating area, probably more than the other dinning halls, but the way the building is set up makes somewhat annoying. If you are unable to find a seat in the main room, and this may be a challenge during peak hours like dinner or brunch, then you will have to sit in either the middle room or Oak Room. The only problem I have with this is that you will be farther from the food. The main room is where the majority of food is located. There is a main course station, gluten-free bar, vegetarian bar, burgers, pizza, salad bar, and drink station. The middle room offers mostly seating area. During the week days they have the Grab-and-Go cafe, open from 7:30am-1:30pm, where students can go in and grab a meal to go if they are in a hurry. The Oak Room opens at 11am and has Asian cuisine, as well as a stir fry station, a salad bar and more seating. Let's talk about the food. Eating at the dinning hall is always a hit or miss. Breakfast offers the basics egg, bacon, pancakes. Every morning they have an omelet bar, which I have yet to try, basically because the line is too long for me and I'm not a patient person, especially when I'm hungry. My typical go to for breakfast is yogurt, fruit and/or cereal. I like to keep it simple in the mornings as long as a I get a little food and some coffee I'll be all set. The problem I have with their breakfast is the fruit. Some days they can be very fresh others days they are rotten and sour. I wish they would offer more variety instead of just cantaloupe and pineapple. On the rare occasions when they are having a specialty night or guest chef, the food is very enjoyable, but that does come with a cost because it seems like everybody wants to be there at the same time. So you struggle to find a table and get your food and end up being too frustrated to enjoy the meal. During a visit to see one of my friends, who attends Husson University in Maine, I was able to eat at her dinning hall. It sadly did not compare to the dinning halls at Umass. Given the fact that Husson is a much smaller school than Umass, I would say they're dinning hall is not a major selling point for them and they make up for it with other features. From what I remember they are only open during certain times of the day and offer one main course and a few sides for each meal. After eating there I had a much greater appreciation for our dinning halls. The service at Worcester is very hospitable. The workers range from young college students to adults. Most of the people I have interacted with are very friendly and helpful. Overall Worcester has a very welcoming atmosphere. It's a great place to just relax for a few moments, enjoy some good food and maybe even meet some new people. read more
