First, they moved to the shopping plaza behind old location. Next to White Elephant. Staff was super friendly. Didn't know they had 2023 #1 hot brown in the city - will have to go back and try. Got standard cheesesteak with mushrooms and onions (no peppers). Great flavor but a little spicy (strong pepper flavor). I know they have that for other versions so wasn't expecting it. If you're not into pepper, just ask for light seasoning. And you don't need extra meat. This Philly was loaded! Almost needed a fork. Went with provolone , probably opp for cheese with more flavor next time. Fries were spot on and good. But really, you don't need them. I would have gone five but pepper seasoning (think of Montreal steak seasoning but spicy) was just a little too strong and overpowered cheesesteak. What can I say about Gorilla Bob's, tucked away in a corner in Pleasure Ridge Park, a hidden treasure. My husband had the Cheese Steak and I had the Ruban. I have to say this was hands down the best I've had since I lived in NH. Piled high with corned beef and sour kraut. Tender juicy and lots of flavor. Wow wow wow. Whether you come from near or far to find it, or you happen to be in the neighborhood and stumble upon it, this place is it. I don't have a single bad thing to say, it is perfect exactly as it is. This literal little shack is simultaneously easy and hard to miss. It's teeny tiny and freestanding, but it's also a very bright purple. It is very unassuming, with its small building and adjacent picnic area. You take a look at the menu on the side of the shack, walk up to the window to place your order, and wait for them to fix it up. There's a big sign on the side that says "Best Hot Brown in the Ville" which is a bold claim seeing that I don't know that I'd ever had a hot brown that wowed me. That changed on this day. Gorilla bob's grub shack is a tiny take out or outdoor patio down establishment off Terry road around the valley station portion of the city of Louisville. You pull into th parking lot and see a brightly colored small purple shack and walk up and place your order. The shack here is the only thing tiny about this place however. The portion size on the meals are massive! So a little backstory. I've been wanting to try this place all summer. Someone told me they have hands down the best Kentucky hot brown in the city. I love hot browns so I immediately added this to my to do list. I'm just never really out near Dixie Highway and Terry road area. So yesterday I was with my wife and 4 kids and mother In law helping the mother in law run some errands on Dixie Highway. It was a round lunch time so i was like "hey we can finally try gorilla bobs". Obviously based off the back story my order should be apparent to everyone. I got the hot brown. As mentioned everything here is large portions. It was also very good. Very smooth and tender and great flavor. Very filling. It lived up to the hype. It is now my favorite hot brown on the city. The rest of my family sampled the menu pretty well. My wife got a jalapeño mango chicken which she loved. My oldest daughter got a Buffalo chicken which she said was amazing and my two youngest ordered a Monster meatballs to share. All three of those are actually sub sandwiches and came served open face on a sub like breading. The youngest two couldn't finish the meatballs so I did for lunch the next day and it was slaps top notch. Very cheesy and great flavor. My mother in law got maybe the biggest Reuben sandwich I've ever seen and she ate it for lunch that day and the other half the next day and was also very impressed. The workers were very diligent and nice. Had our whole order ready in id say ten minutes or so. Not bad at all. They do have drink options that is outside the shack in a mini fridge. Mainly 20 oz popular cola brands. But they did have a few flavors of some decent sized jugs of lemonade called lady J's. I tried one of those (pink) and it was pretty good. Overall I was very impressed with this place and glad I checked it out. Massive portions that are massive or flavor and taste too. I'll absolutely come back. It will have to be on nicer days so I can dine at the outdoor covered picnic tables again. As Dixie is about a 40 min drive for me. But I'll absolutely be a repeat customer. read more

This is a very small mom and pop eatery. But the amount of food they serve is amazing. Gary ordered the Big Dave. It is one of the biggest Philly Cheese sandwich I have seen in a while. It has peppers grilled with the meat and just the right amount of cheese. Now for their speciality dish ..... the Kentucky Hot Brown. They won the best Hot Brown at Derby time in 2023. It was definitely one of the best dishes I have had in a very long time. We also split an order of their Ghetto Fries. It was loaded with two different cheeses then baked in the oven. The staff was very friendly. We did have a issue with one meal due to person on register being new and with out hesitation they corrected the issue immediately. I had the thicc chick sandwich and it was very good I will add that if you don't like spicy ask for no peppers of the veggie mix as it is quite spicy. This tasted really good. I liked the chunks of turkey and the bacon and cheese were okay. There were 2 problems nothing major but enough not to warrant the 5th star. First off I ask for no tomatoes but got them anyway. The second issue is the mornay was very thin and watery. A good hot brown is all most grainy close too grits that should set up when browned under a broiler. This was good but way too soupy. Really used to love this place a lot, sandwiches are still really good! I'm just sick and tired of all my favorite spots loosing all their value. The price of every sandwich and especially the hot brown had already gone up, which is understandable, but on my visit today now none of the sandwiches come with fries anymore. You have to buy them a La carte for $4+. Like come on man what used to cost $11-$12 dollars now will cost you $16-$17. Pretty significant percentage increase. No longer an affordable spot, I used to try and hit this place once a week, now it will be maybe once every other month or so.
