Fun egg hunt concept at the Redmond World Market, but overall our experience was disappointing. The interaction with one staff member, Susan, felt awkward and uncomfortable--it almost felt like an interrogation. She asked if my friend and I were related because of the same-household rule. This seemed harmless at first, but when we explained that we were just friends, she responded with an "uhhh mmm, okay" tone that felt odd and dismissive, almost like we were lying. Considering every past World Market I've been to, staff would say "congratulations" or "nice job" instead of giving off that vibe. Susan mentioned she's had issues with families all getting one, but then another staff member, Ryan i believe, clarified the rule was about household--not relation. This left us confused, because hypothetically, had we been sisters, there's no way to know if we lived in the same household or not. The question of asking us if we were related could've been resolved after checking our IDs, which is required anyway to claim the prize--and she could've seen we didn't have the same last name. She could also have phrased the question better--asking if we lived in the same household rather than if we were related--rather than making assumptions based on our appearance. On top of that, she asked us three times where we found our eggs, and i genuinely feel like one answer should've been enough. We've participated in egg and Christmas hunts at other World Market locations in the past, and this kind of questioning has never happened to this extent. The way I was treated didn't feel fair or professional, and it made the experience unnecessarily uncomfortable. I found Susan, well...annoying. The only positive was Richard or Robert (someone named like that), who was kind and helpful, which we appreciated. I really like this chain store. First time in this location. 5 stars especially to the manager and cashier working here because of the shoplifting incident that occurred. They both handled it quickly and although the cashier was shaking when I was checking out afterwards, he was kind to me. Not everyone has that poise and many would need a break. There is something so four out of five about the store it's just this kind of place where you'll find something but it won't knock you over the head. I am giving the Cost Plus in Redmond three stars. Primarily because the Bellevue and Seattle locations have a better specialty food section. The one here is not as extensive it seems. The location itself is convenient. It is close to Redmond Town Center with plenty of parking. Mostly because Top Food closed next door. If you are heading to RTC, don't take the far left exit because it is one way headed in the opposite direction. Best to use the one near Bartell Drugs. I stopped in trying to take advantage of the after Christmas deals on their holiday food items. 50% off now. Selection was okay. Picked up some French apple cake, hazelnut stollen and some Scottish mince pies. Was looking to find some holiday Ghiradelli bags here, but they didn't have what I was looking for. They had a caramel bag, but I am not a fan of this so I passed. I came across something interesting when I was roaming the aisles. Saw what looked like a company memo with a picture of a display case on it. Guess this is what store workers follow when it comes to putting together an aisle display. Interesting to see that there is an art to creating them. Generally, I find Cost Plus to be an awesome chain. The Redmond location is good, but not great. Though you should be able to find what are you looking for, albeit with less of a selection to choose from. read more

This is my favorite World Market in the local area. It's brightly lit, spacious, well stocked, and has friendly staff. If I'm looking for something from CPWM, this is the first store I head to. Amongst my favorite departments are food stuffs and kitchen items. During the holiday season, I come here for wines, and soap/lotion items as stocking stuffers. For the past 1+ years, they have been having recurring collaborations with Sanrio so there are a lot of fun Hello Kitty items to shop for. In the food department, it's my primary source for Jacob's Cream Cracker, a very popular cracker from the UK. It's great for everything, spreads or to eat by itself. In the chips area, I like their lentil curls. If you want genuine Germany made Haribo gummy candies (vs. the ones made in the US; the ingredients are different), look here. The clue is instead of "Share Size" in the upper right hand corner, it has German text instead. It's also more expensive by about $1. *Update 12/22/15* I have to give cred when due. This store reached out to me, and the manager noted that she reads the reviews posted and uses the feedback as a tool to improve. She read my review and said she'd work on these issues with staff. I returned to the store and got my mini-liquer bottle and mini-flask for my hubby's stocking. Sure enough, there were now two cashiers open (not just one), and both were manned by employees over 21 (so either could legally ring me out with my "biggie" alcohol purchase, lol!). LOVE LOVE World Market... I can't believe this place is within one mile walking distance from my current work location!!! I feel I'd come here for my chocolate A LOT!! I was running on the trail during lunch break and decided to get some chocolate here on my way back!!! And, yes, I got 5 of them!!! If this is not enough for you to drop your pants and go to this store like right nao, then I am not sure you really know how to live life to its fullest. Because it's that time of the year, a season of giving, this is the perfect place to get stocking stuffers or white elephant gifts or just gifts in general. I didn't realize it was a whole store full of home goods like furniture, dinnerware, kitchen utensils, linens, pillows, etc..... And it has a European flare for all the types of these items. I went in and found a few little trinket specialty foods to try. I found a hot sauce that was the best I've ever tasted. My girlfriend and I have wanted to buy dinnerware that we agree on as we both don't like each other's former dinnerware. This is the ONLY place we found dinnerware we agreed on. We purchased a Desk Chair from Cost Plus last year. We had a problem with the casters on the legs of the chair, and called to see about having it repaired or replaced. When arriving, they had a replacement chair waiting at the front of the store with our name on it - no questions asked about the broken. They then didn't require us to deal with all the return/exchange paperwork and wait, they said they would take care of it on their time. It's nice to see that the concept of Customer Service is still alive and well. Good job to Cost Plus for training their employees!!! read more

Cost Plus is great for two really important things to me: 1. They sell ginger beer. THANK GOD. Since there are no BevMo's up here (GOD I MISS BEVMO!!!) it can be hard to find ginger beer. It's like this entire state doesn't want me to have dark and stormys or moscow mules. Bastards. Anyway, they sell ginger beer here since it is a product that is not easily found in your normal grocery store, and no you can't use ginger ale. Not the same thing! 2. Their prices for spices and vanilla beans can't be beat. I was making infused vodka and rum for people as xmas presents and while the local QFC was charging TEN DOLLARS FOR TWO vanilla beans, you can get 2 vanilla beans here for 3 bucks. DEAL. Cost Plus also features lots of other specialty food and goodies from around the world, like really good gummies and candies and at least a couple different flavors of pocky. Yummy. The furniture always looks pretty good yet I have never bought any. I have bought some of their dishes and kitchen items and I have always been happy with the quality. At some point, I will be buying some of their drink dispensers because they have some very reasonably priced ones. All in all, Cost Plus has: good sales, this location is pretty big, they keep a pretty good stock of things, and the quality is good. And like I said before, you can buy ginger beer here. They have Tim-Tams. What more do you need to know!?!?!??! Seriously! And not just the pepperidge farm variety sold at Target(which I have never tried, but have been told from multiple sources, are sub-par). Comedian Greg Berhendt has been telling me forever to try Tim Tams(not me personally, but in his stand up routine and podcast, but I have met him, and I am sure if I talked to him long enough, he would have told me personally to try Tim-Tams, that's how much he loves them). So I knew eventually I would try them. But they sounded so amazing, that they were either going to be disappointing, or so fantastic I would want to eat them on a daily basis. I don't know if its a good or bad thing that they are uber-delicious. I am not ashamed to say my boyfriend and I finished off the package in one day. That's just how we roll with Tim-Tams I guess. We didn't even go here looking for Tim-Tams. We went looking for some wall art for our bedroom, sadly we didn't find any. We also saw that they had directors chairs for $20, compared to the $50 across the street at Pier 1. So If I ever decide to buy more directors chairs, I definitely know where I am going! So besides the Tim-Tams, I am also going to be at Cost Plus on a weekly basis now because of Animal crackers. Yes, I know what you are thinking. "But Kristin they sell animal crackers everywhere!" Well, not these animal crackers my friend. These are Stauffers, and they are delicious! In the past I could only find them at Wal-Mart. And A, there is no Wal-Mart around here. And 2, why would I drive out of my way just for animal crackers?(shhhh, dont tell anyone, but I have). I was lucky and found them in the crazy $1 section in the front of Target, but those are limited supply. So now I know where to go for my animal cracker fix when my current stash of 27 bags runs out. Overall: Decent store for bits and bobs from around the world I was meaning to visit World Market for months after passing it every time we visited Redmond Town Center. What drew me to them was that they were called "World Market" and I was hoping that I could find lots of stuff I couldn't get anywhere else. I have to admit I was a bit disappointed when I went in, I always thought it was a grocery/food store. On entering I realized this store was mainly a "furniture" type store, these things didn't interest me - I was here for food. So I plodded along to the grocery section, it was a lot smaller than I'd hoped, however their selections are decent. They stocked miniatures of clotted cream, Heinz tomato ketchup, Tabasco sauce, Wilkin and Sons preserves and lots of other things as well as full sized items such as a range of chocolates, candies, teas, coffees, cocoa, cookies/biscuits, crackers, golden syrup, pasta (including black squid ink pasta), seasonings & rubs, sauces, olives, tomatoes, beers, wines and more. We came out with Lindt 99%, Scharffen Berger 41% milk, Tate & Lyle's golden syrup, two packs of whole wheat crackers, Fishermen's Friends lozenges that came to approximately $20-25. Despite being called cost plus, they aren't that cheap. However, I'd definitely come back to get a few bits a bobs if I'm in the area. read more

I love love love World Market. As some fellow yelpers have already admitted, I always come for one thing and leave with multiple bags! There is a huge selection of candy snacks and drinks from all over the place, and the seasonal merchandise changes regularly. The wine selection is laid out nicely, with reviews tips and suggestions for each section. This place also has the widest selection of ginger beers I have ever seen! Tip: the best [sweetest] ginger beer is in the smaller dark bottles with the orange label. I can't think of the brand, but it is THE BEST. I also recently discovered their fabulous wrapping paper section. There are lots of choices made from recycled materials, lots of fun patterns (especially of the Indian style), any size bag/paper/whatever you could need! And it's right beside the soaps and lotions so that area always smells like figs or blood oranges or whatever the flavor of the month is (Warning: you will buy amazing smelling lotions here.) read more

WOW so impressed with this World Market location! Leslie and Robert (both are managers) provided the best customer service I have received in a long time. My boyfriend and I purchased a dining room table and chair set from them last weekend and they went above and beyond every step of the way. We had one small issue with a piece of the table being broken when we started assembling it in our house, and they sorted it out for us, and Robert even called us days later to make sure we were satisfied with our new table. UGGGG....I don't think I've been so aggro in a long time over a 30 second interaction with someone....but, somehow they did it. Let me lay out the scene for you....It was New Years Eve, around noon, I was shopping for cute trinkets for my NYE celebration. I enter CPWM after fighting the iced over death trap of a parking lot....I walk over to a staff member who was merchandising a display: me: "Hi, excuse me, can I ask you a question?" (Staff member slams down the item in her hand-presumably for the display and turns to me rolling their eyes) staff: "yes?"---sounded more like a resounding, "WHAT IS IT THAT YOU WANT?" in my ears....I'm sure it would've sounded more like that it she were not at work and needed employment. me: "Do you guys have any NYE party favors?" (Staff member rolls her eyes , again) Staff: "NO" (Staff member rolls her eyes, yet again for a 3rd time then turns back around to her display) Wow...I don't think I ever met anyone so rude. I'm so glad I left CPWM at that very moment, leaving it and that sorry soppy excuse for a human being behind in 2010. This place drives me nuts and I am glad to see that I am not just being overly sensitive. I had spent some time online on their website picking out the perfect bookshelf to complete my living room. I couldn't wait for my day to be over and run to the store and haul it away...but then the universe seemed to have different plans for me. After finding parking right in front, perfect to taking out my soon to be purchase I bound in the store to be greeted by a whole lot of nothing. Three employees were standing close by, wrapped in a conversation that presumably, and from a bit of eavesdropping I could tell had nothing to do with work and they did not bother to acknowledge my existence. A simple "Hello" would have been enough to me to keep my good mood. I spent the next fifteen minutes being ignored while walking around the furniture selection towards the back of the store when I saw it...the perfect bookshelf which came with it almost a $300 price tag. I took a minute to think it over and decided that it should be mine. I stood, one hand raised in the air like a child anxiously waiting to be called on by the teacher, in full view of the three staff members on the floor and I was ignored. Time moved very slowly as my blood pressure started to rise and there I stood in place clutching my dream bookshelf with one hand and the other still raised in the air. Once, I saw one of the men look in my direction during a break in their conversation which I can hear in an empty store from where I am standing and I had one last glimmer of hope. I thought I would test my "The Staff Doesn't Give a F$#%" theory and spent the next ten minutes wandering the remainder of the store and was set that if I was asked if I needed help that my bookcase dream was meant to be. I fondled throw pillows, admired dining sets and searched for the perfect basket. I looked at toys, artwork and amazing sets of stemware with no reaction. It was only as I was walking out of the store, no purchase in hands that one of the three, who still remained in their original places bid me a good night. I have failed to mention that I only saw three other people in the store at the time and all were on their own as well. This is one of my favorite places to shop!! They have a variety of goods from food to furniture, beer and wine, frames, giftwrap, cooking, bath, and seasonal items. They also have a super friendly staff and if you sign up for their explorer program you get coupons in the mail and discounts tied to your phone number (much like a grocery store club card). I went here with my husband a few nights ago to pick out ornaments for our tree, and our total went from $50 to $35 with the coupons and discounts! Not to mention for being a chain store, their decor has a "one of a kind" feel to it. Many of the items I purchase here people ask where I got it! It isn't "cheap", but the value of what you buy is great considering other places that sell similar products are much more heavily marked up. read more
