My new go to spot for doughnuts, that mom and pop shop feel with a unique flavor all it's own. They have specialty doughnuts and breakfast sandwiches along with milk tea drinks all in one. The texture is thick and full of flavor. Real popular spot and found out the hard way by coming in on a Sunday morning. Lines were out the door. I give the owners credit for being able to move through the line with ease and service all customers with the same great customer service. You'll need to come in early considering that the doughnuts go fast and all your favorites may be gone. I myself tried the bacon, egg, ham and cheese croissant and that sandwich hit the spot so much that I ordered one to go. Great spot near my home so I don't have to travel too far out. read more

I've been to shops where the donuts are not ready for opening and that's a true bummer. If you Walk in at 4am(mostly open by 3:50!) you'll be greeted with every variety of donut and coffee imaginable! Now let's get down to it. The basic glazed raised donut. This is hands down the best glazed anywhere in the Bay Area maybe even the state of California! And I've been to a bunch! Nearly 1.5 inches tall with generous glaze applied. Soft center,not gooey,just soft and fluffy. NEVER FAILS! Taste is amazing-not over sweet not doughy just right. This glazed donut is not a sponge for oil either. You won't find oil spots all over your bag or on your napkin before you leave. They let these donuts "rest" before selling them,check out my picture of the rack of glazed and chocolates! The coffee selection is also top notch. I always grab the Columbian dark. Pure bliss at 4am! I've also had their breakfast sandwich,egg,bacon,and jalapeño on a bagel. It's so huge I can't handle it while driving so I stick to donuts lol. They also do Lotto there,but it's too early to sell tickets when I get there at opening,maybe I'll have to come in later,but the lines are INSANE after 7am. If my dentist knew I was coming here after every semi-annual checkup (fortunately, no cavities to date), I would certainly get a lecture from him, but since he and I aren't friends here on Yelp, he'll never find out (hopefully), hehehe... That said, World's Fare Donuts is a gem in the Hayward area with a huge local following. This place seems to be always packed from morning to evening (there can be a long line, but it goes fast), with patrons and old-timers enjoying their sweet treats, sipping on hot liquids, chewing the fat, and perhaps just loitering the area. Their donuts are GIANT and they have a great assortment here (glazed raised, holes, old fashioned, crumb, sprinkles, buttermilk, long johns, crullers, blueberry, chocolate, maple, coconut, peanut, cinnamon rolls, fritters, etc.). They also serve croissants (incl. sandwiches) and various coffee and espresso drinks (don't expect it to be like Devout, Starbucks or Peet's, LOL), and will make custom made gargantuan donut cakes for that special occasion. Freshness, taste, and quality are all good since there is such a high turnover on their products. Did I also mention that this place is lottery capital? Scratchers, Powerball, MEGA Millions, and SuperLotto Plus galore... My go-to items here are usually the fluffy and tempting donut holes (as big as baseballs; OK maybe not that big, but close to it), chocolate and maple old fashioned (what can I say, I enjoy the classics), crumb cake donut (love the crumbs, cinnamon, and glaze), and their infamous tire-sized apple fritter (crunchy exterior from the expert frying, very sweet glaze (my dentist would kill me), moist cake inside with small and generous chunks of apple). I can never finish the fritter on my own in one sitting and must always share (cuz sharing is caring). For the most part, the owner and staff are very nice, humorous, and courteous to everyone who swings through. There might be complaints that the owner is rude, but you have to understand the hundreds of people she deals with everyday and she needs to run a tight and efficient ship while still being patient with customers. So, give her a break, get your donut(s), and nom nom away! If you're in the Hayward area and want to treat yourself to a sweet breakfast or afternoon/evening snack, then give World's Fare a shot. Damn. I just forced myself to eat a donut. No, it's okay, because I'm doing research (keep telling yourself that, tubby). One of my wife's coworkers brings in 2 dozen donuts from here every Wednesday (no, I'm not going to say where she works- okay, I might if the price is right). My wife saved me a chocolate donut a few months ago (for some reason, she wanted me to dunk it in poison- I guess we were out of milk), and I wasn't impressed (I probably should have heated up the donut a little). That seems to have been an aberration, though, as all the donuts I've had since then have been great. The donut shop is quite large (the interior reminds me of a diner- the tables look rather ordinary, and there's not much in the way of ambiance). The seating capacity is over 40, and there are 2 entrances. World's Fare Donut appears on the boxes. Maybe they only expect customers to buy 1. o_O There are 5 types of Danish (ex: Cinnamon Twist). Noah's Bagels and a small variety of breakfast sandwiches are also sold here. The refrigerator by the counter features a good selection of soda, and there are 7 types of coffee if you would prefer that. This place is also known for lottery tickets. A lottery ticket machine is by the back entrance, and about 20 types of tickets are sold at the counter. There's also an ATM by the back entrance. Receipts aren't given out here (another donut shop that I recently reviewed doesn't believe in them either), but I don't believe that tax is charged. Individual Donuts: $.95. Specialty (ex: Apple Fritter): $1.95. Half Dozen: $5. Dozen: $9.49. My wife and I were charged $10.89 today, but that's because we asked for some long donuts (I think they're each $.35 more). I was eyeing the croissants, but I don't think they count as donuts. Anyway, I'll probably order some next time (they really look good). Chocolate; Glazed; Sugar: 9/10. Our donuts are delicious and thick (my main sister-in-law was over our house earlier, and she referred to them as "huge"), and we received some free donut holes (oh my). The chocolate and glazed donuts are off the hook, and the sugar donuts are interesting because they're soft and light. In other words, they don't taste like they're loaded down with sugar. Our cashier was friendly and patient (we weren't quite sure what we wanted), and the woman working with her was nice too. The area by the counter is spacious. Otherwise, the walkways are a bit narrow. Like at other donut shops, the selection can be limited at times (ex: in the days before Christmas). Parking is limited in the immediate vicinity (my wife and I actually parked in front of Ray's Sushi- the workers we saw outside on their break looked a bit creepy), but the parking lot for the whole shopping center is very big. HANDS DOWN best donut place I've ever been to. Sorry Dunkin' (my inner Marylander feels a little guilty). This place is definitely a local favorite. It is definitely a routine for people to arrive in the morning, pick up a thick cake donut(s) or another other standard giant donut they sell, and buy some scratchers. Seriously though -- the donuts here run bigger. Maybe it's something in the water. Maybe it's because they are just awesome. Because of the large crowd, there is frequent turnover. The donuts are always warm and perfectly chewy in the middle. They also have breakfast sandwiches, bagels, smoothies, boba milk tea, and many flavors of coffee. They all look and smell delicious, but we always seem to gravitate to the donuts. I'm all about trying new things, but when its donuts this fluffy, it's hard to stray from the usual. The people that work there are very fast and attentive. They always are aware of the next customer and want to serve everyone the best they can. They are a lucky retailer and have had several big winners in the past. I've come here with friends on the weekends to buy a dozen glazed cake donuts (for $10 yes please! and they always throw in a few donut holes too), a cup of coffee or smoothie and play some scratchers. Hubs enjoyed an apple fritter. I swear that thing was a beast and had to have weighed over a pound. It took him 2 days to finish it. Prices are reasonable all 3 items were $5 and some change. They had quite a selection on a Sunday morning but were already sold out of something I tried to buy. There is plenty of seating, a condiment station and they accept CC for purchases over $5.00. I've only tried one of their donuts, the gigantic apple fritter, and I must say it's the best I've had. Very moist, flavorful, and delicious. I found this place through my coworker, who oddly lives at least half an hour from Hayward. I figured if this place was worthy of her mention, I must check it out. To my surprise, I found out this was located in my backyard! The shop is semi-big for a donut shop; with a plethora of booths to eat at. The place is a bit hole-in-the-wall-y but I heard the locals come here often to get their coffee, breakfast, lunch, etc. The menu is expansive ranging from donuts to panini to boba drinks. The prices are dirt cheap, esp the donuts. The donuts are more than twice the size of a regular donut for half the price and twice the quality. I need to come back here!!! I cannot wait to go back here to try their paninis (heard great things from other customers) and boba drinks. Also, they sell lotto tickets. This place has *got* to sport some of the best, fluffiest, wonderfully flavored, fresh donuts that I have tried in quite some time... A very generous family of a patient purchased a phat, large rectangular box of donuts for everyone, and we were all stuck for minutes commenting on the particular accolades of the fried dough. I am amazed at how good they tasted. HUGE fan; though I'm never in Hayward, I just might drive down there once in a blue moon to get a box. Must be among the top in the Bay Area... I'm not sure why this place has such great reviews. In my opinion, the doughnuts are okay, but definitely nothing special or worth raving about. This place is pretty far from where I live, but seeing all the good reviews, I just had to give it a try at least once. The location of the doughnut shop is inside a shopping center, with a Dollar Tree and Mi Pueblo Foods. The doughnuts are meh okay. I ordered a dozen doughnuts, 6 glazed and 6 vanilla. Oh an 1 Apple Strudel. I preferred the glazed ones over the chocolate ones. I didn't really prefer or enjoy the chocolate used on the doughnuts. The glazed weren't bad though. The Apple Strudel was was not that good, hardly any Apple filling inside. Overall, just 3 stars. read more

While this place is relatively famous for their donuts I am only a perimeter fan clapping politely. There is a crowd of WFD fans standing in line for their particular morning fare/ritual virtually every morning b/f 9AM. I like their blueberry cake donut. That is my weakness. Not a home run, but it does the job to fill that particular need. Good flavor with a nicely textured outer 'delicate crunch' crust. Their traditional glazed donut are almost the size of your head, as other Yelpers have claimed. For the money, the WFD glazed has no peer. Huge pillows of soft fluffiness for a ridiculously low LOW price. They are only a 7 on a 10 point Taste & Flavor Meter. Not bad, but not into the 'Greatness' territory as far as glazed D-nuts go. Oh....what I'd give to have one that was still warm out of the fryer! If I were maybe 40 years younger, it might be tempting to darken their doorstep more often. Alas, I am not, so I can only vouch for their donuts ever few times a year. Not the best donuts I have ever had, but they certainly aren't the worst. It was perfectly cooked throughout (I've had one from sf that wasn't cooked all the way)! The best part is that it only costs $17!!! The place itself is kinda dingy...ghetto looking diners but I think that adds to its own flavor. For a dozen donuts, I think the total was under $8 and do they throw in donut holes for free. My cousin who works with OPD told me about this place awhile ago when he had to go to Hayward. A coworker brought in donuts this week, and I made my first visit today. I found my donut shop at home! The regular donuts are huge enough for you to feel satisfied with just one. They are light and soft without being chewy or gummy. And they are not greasy at all. These take me back to the bakery I remember growing up.
