Very nice place and staff. My items were better than they were when i brought them but still ended up taking to another tailor because there were more alterations needed even after having them done here. They did 2 rounds of alterations here but i was told they couldnt do anything else or it wouldnt look right. Well not necessarily true because my usual tailor at another location knew exactly what needed to be done and he did it. I wouldnt say its a bad place at all just not totally satisfied with my experience and therefore will not return. For me, i expected more given the high prices they charge and the rave reviews. And i ended up paying more to my usual tailor for the changes that really should have been done here. Pretty disappointed. THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!!! I call them MIRACLE workers!! I took my wedding dress there in a complete panic as i ordered it and it was 1 inch too small at the bust and i couldn't even zip it up! They took the time to listen to me, they were KIND, and they reassured me that it was going to be okay! I had a lace overlay and had taken it to a number of places before who were going to charge me double what these guys quotes and wanted to chop up the dress. Lyn was so wonderful and they quoted me a great price. When i picked it up i oculdnt believe it! It was perfect!!! A gem of a tailor shop on the UES, Wo's is operated by people who care a lot about their work. I brought my vintage fur coat here for repair. Lin's consultation on the condition of my coat, the process it would require, and the final cost was very reassuring. She also respected my time and commute since I live in Brooklyn and had the coat ready and available for me to pick up the next day. She mentioned the tailor spent three hours on my coat that morning. I paid a good price here and they saved my beautiful vintage coat from further damage. read more

I was looking for a place for alteration for a jacket which is at least 25 years old. I went to Wo's custom place on 2nd av for the same. Lin translated the conversation between Wo and me. Post measurements, she told me the cost which was a little high but I wanted to take a chance. She gave honest opinion on the fabric as I was skeptical for the jacket was already more than 2 decades old. She was ready to accommodate my dates and delivered as promised. The jacket now fits fine and looks mine rather than my father's who was a field hockey player and was muscular rather than lean like me. I discovered Wo's a few months ago when I needed a dress altered in record time...and on a Sunday! The fact that this tailoring business is open on the weekend on the Upper East Side is just the first tiny example of how convenient and professional they are. Sheila and the whole team are exceedingly polite, efficient and they do an excellent job with very reasonable pricing. I would give this tailor a 0 if i could. This was a very bad experience. My now husband took his Joseph A Bank suit to this tailor for our upcoming wedding. He lost weight while we were getting ready for the wedding and the suit no longer fit. I read great reviews that they took store bought suits and made them look like they were specially made for you. This was not the case. We came back for him to try it on and pick it up and the thing looked off. It was like the jacket was taken in the center too much and the bottom flared out like a lady jacket would for your hips. We spent a long time there trying to explain the issue but now they were acting like they didn't understand English. They stopped helping us for a period of time to help new people coming in almost hoping we would give up and go away. We were left with him just standing there in the suit by the mirror for about a half an hr. I started to get upset and went directly up to the people and asked for them to help us again. We were already late for another appointment. One of the ladies started to say that there was nothing that they could do because this was not a tailor made suit and this is the way suits are when you buy them at a store. I said I know its not a tailored suit and that's why we are paying to have it tailored to fit him. Then they said the could fix it for $100 more. We came back the next day and they had sewed a little strap on the back under the flaps that was uneven. I pointed out that it was uneven and the woman said it wasn't so she took a ruler to prove it to me and ended up showing herself that it was uneven. The whole shitty experience was a long time suck that we didn't need so close to the wedding. We ended up paying them double what the suit cost in order to have them tailor it and my husband did not feel 100% comfortable in it. WAY TO MUCH MONEY FOR SHIT SERVICE AND A SHIT JOB! read more

The shop is hidden by construction from the 2nd Ave subway project, but it's always busy because the tailoring is thoughtful and precise. It's expensive, but if you want good work above all else and you can't stand the idea that your clothes will be damaged by second/third-rate tailoring, it is worth it to pay. Wow. I cannot express my gratitude for Wo's Custom Tailoring enough. At 9:15 AM on a Sunday morning, when I was getting ready for my bridal shower, I tore my lace dress that I had my heart set on wearing. Of course, every tailoring shop in NYC was closed, including Wo's. However, I called them anyway, and they miraculously answered the phone and immediately agreed to take my last-minute CRISIS request to fix an insanely complicated tear in my dress, all in under 1 hour. Needless to say, they pulled it off. Not only did they pull it off, but I had absolutely no idea where the tear in my lace used to be, that's how perfect it was. Not one person noticed the entire bridal shower. I am in debt to Wo's for saving my day and being incredibly accommodating and thoughtful, as they were literally closed and took my crisis request. I had a leather jacket that was way too big for me - when I put it on, it looked like I was wearing my father's jacket (assuming my father were a much larger man than I). I knew that tailoring leather items was tricky and that you need to make sure your tailor has experience and expertise with the material, since misplaced stitches are hard/impossible to fix. I saw the positive reviews for Wo's (previously known as Chen's) and decided to give it a shot, and I was extremely happy with the results. I needed the jacket to be completely overhauled, and this was no easy task: the sides had to be taken in, the sleeve have to be slimmed down, and the length had to be shortened. Wo's did a great job with all this, and I couldn't recommend them more highly. The reason I'm bothering writing this review, however, is because they went above and beyond the call of duty. Because of the way my jacket is designed, if I wanted the length to be shortened, it would require the zipper of the jacket and the front buttons to be completely removed, and then subsequently sewn back in (after the excess material was cut away). This is something Wo's recommended I avoid if possible, but I let them know that I was willing to take the risk and wanted to see if it was possible. The master tailor took the time in his off day to bring my jacket to several tailors specializing in zippers and ended up getting it done for me perfectly. Because this was follow up work, he even significantly lowered the price of this (I suspect all the money I paid went to the tailor who dealt with the zipper). This type of service shows that Wo's cares about its customers. I certainly felt grateful for the hard work he put into this jacket. read more

The couple that run Wo's are as sweet as it gets and treat their customers like family. The tailor is an expert at his craft and wants to make sure you are happy with the results-- they will make adjustments after a fitting if the garment isn't laying and fitting just right. I have had a few tricky jobs done here such as a bridesmaid dress that was way too big everywhere, and a trenchcoat with overly long sleeves. The staff strategize amongst themselves regarding which methods will yield the best results, and will provide you with options if for example, one way is more complicated and will look better but another way has a faster turnaround and will cost less. The interior is also very modern, clean, and brightly lit. I used to live nearby, and now that I've moved to Brooklyn, I always miss being in close proximity to Wo's when I have purchased something that could fit a bit better. The pricing is very reasonable for the neighborhood and especially for the quality of service and work. read more

Top quality work with client-centric culture! I've done 5 suits and 5 shirts here and they do a great fitting job. Mr. Wo is the tailor and has over 30 years in the industry - he is extremely precise and does all the tailoring work while the wife or relative helps translate the customer's requirements and expectations. I consider myself to be quite meticulous/anal on details (from GQ and Esquire subscriptions) and these guys understand how to make suits look custom-made. I also work in the finance banking industry and looking sharp is part of the job - this family business gets it. Moreover, prices are reasonable but the most important thing is the strong relationship we have - they treat you almost like family. Several occasions, rather than agreeing to all my anal whims where they could just charge me, they actually spent 10-15 minutes debating with me - e.g. why a 1/4" cut on the waist didn't make a difference on my overcoat and wasn't worth the additional expense. Only after pinning the look did they convince me. In my book, putting client first is always a winning strategy. read more

I went here to get a bridesmaid dress tailored for my sister's wedding. They turned a dress that looked like a fallen down curtain into a beautiful gown. I was very picky and asked them to take two beaded belts I purchased and turn it into a waist sash to put on the gown. They were very diligent and honest in their work - telling me what could be realistically done and what to not touch so as not to ruin the dress or the fabric. They were unbelievably patient and ten times nicer than most every other tailor in the area. They did an excellent job on a jacket for my dad as well.
