This past Saturday at 2am I found some major issues with my wedding gown and I needed someone to help me fix it by today (Tuesday) as I'm flying out tomorrow morning for my wedding. It doesn't leave much time at all, but Sheila and her team were so accommodating. They literally let me walk into the shop at 10am on Sunday (technically they open at 11 sundays) and took my dress in. The previous seamstress had left a slew of deeply seeded problems that normally would take weeks to be fixed (and I had zero faith then that she would have the capability or desire to help me fix it). Sheila and her team took my dress and actually opened up the waist, took out fabric, and re-sewed it back with beautifully smooth skirt pleating in 3 days!!!! To this day I cannot believe how much they had saved my life. They gave me the wedding dress I had always hoped for, not one I needed to "come to terms with". So much of wedding gown alterations is about trust and until I met everyone at Wo's I never did feel like I was in good hands (and could sleep at night). I went again to the shop a couple weeks back. I was in a wedding party so I had to get my (cheap) suit fitted. The Tailor (I made it proper because that's how good he is) saw the suit and understood without a single word exchanged between us what he had to do. However, I've been coming to him many times since the last review, which is why he knew what I wanted. Fast forward 2 weeks when I had to pick up the suit and Holy Sh!te!!, he made me look good. I came to them with the very unusual and highly tedious task of completely restructuring a cashmere and wool overcoat that was an XXL into a medium (don't ask) and it was done quickly and perfectly. Just had four items altered here, with a different need for each one (removing pockets, changing a cuff, taking in a dress, taking in a jumpsuit and re-doing the zipper), and each was done perfectly. The time to do the work was very reasonable -- one week -- and the experience of being fitted for everything was very pleasant and professional. What's more, during my initial consultation, they actually discouraged me from doing something too complicated and expensive to one dress and suggested an easier and less pricey solution. After being turned down by a lot of tailor's for a rush job on custom made lab coats, Wo's Custom Tailoring agreed to my very short timeline (a few days) and the task of making two new lab coats! The coats were for a photo shoot, so I needed them to be just right. I was concerned about a poor tailoring job before I found Wo's and worried that my expectations would not be met. I have had a few simple alterations (pants hemmed, jackets taken in in the waist) done here and they have always been perfect. Most recently, I had a tougher job - a jacket that was too long in the sleeves, but had non-functioning mock button holes sewn into the jacket. I needed the jacket sleeves shortened, but also did not want them taken up from the shoulder as the should fits perfectly and has some nice stitching. Wo was able to take out the stitching that made the button holes (again, they were non-functioning), shorten the sleeve, use the fabric he took out of the sleeve to elongate the opening at the wrist and then make the button holes functioning. He did an incredible job that could not be easy. I am a tough critic and was extremely impressed with this. On top of all that, the store is very clean and the all the people working that are extremely friendly. After this last job, Wo's has cemented itself as my go to tailor. read more

I own the production-line version of the Top Gun leather jacket by Cockpit USA (formerly Avirex). After losing weight by going on a diet, the jacket was understandably too generous at the sides and the back. I called the company asking them if they have an in-house tailor, or at least could recommend one. They could not assist in either regard. So, I paid a visit to Wo's, which in the past did an excellent job altering down my Etro suits and blazers after my weight loss. When I showed the jacket to Lin, she instantly saw the fit issues I was seeing and that other onlookers dismissed as "just the style of the jacket." Lin then explained in her native tongue the issues to Wo, who then proceeded to yank, pull and pin the jacket to ensure that I could envision how the jacket would look when altered. Given the thickness of the leather, I suppose one needs to take a little leap of faith, as no amount of pinning will precisely mimic the finished look. About three weeks later, I came for the first fitting. It was the only fitting I needed - the jacket looked like I was born in it. After now having worked with Wo for the past 1 1/2 years, I noticed a pattern in the way he tailors suits and blazers which he applied in kind to this leather jacket: Wo makes sure that the back of the garment - particularly the shoulder blades and the lower back - is as close as possible to the wearer's body, creating the sculpted, sweeping look. After some reflection, buying a brand new jacket from the manufacturer in a smaller size would not have met my needs: 1) a new jacket would have required a higher initial cash outlay than having Wo tailor my existing jacket, and 2) the new jacket would still not have been small enough to fit me properly without some tailoring. So, the investment in Wo was definitely worth it. read more

Had one of my shirts and a pair of jeans altered here. They are really patient when they are doing the measurements, asking me questions to make sure I am ok with the decisions. When I went to pick up my clothes, I realized that the pair of jeans were still a bit too long than I would like so they worked on it the second time and re-delivered to my satisfaction promptly in the next two days. I cannot speak highly enough about the customer service (and quality of work) at Wo's Custom Tailoring. This is my first Yelp review (this was also my first Google review) because I had such an amazing experience. I had an evening gown with a long chiffon cape that I took to Wo's to get hemmed a couple of inches. I went in a Sunday (one of the few tailors you will find with Sunday hours) and they said they would have it ready by Tuesday (I left to go out of town for the event on Wednesday evening). I forgot to pick up the dress on Tuesday (when it was ready) and figured I would just get it on Wednesday night before heading to the train station. I didn't realize the Wo's is closed on Wednesdays (likely to compensate for being open on Sundays) until late in the afternoon. I sent a frantic email to the email address listed on their website at around 4PM. The owner answered my email in under 30 mins and drove from Queens to Manhattan in rush hour traffic to open the store so I could get my dress. I had the dress by 6PM and was on my way to Penn Station to catch my 7PM train with plenty of time. The owner was so kind to open the store for me and refused to accept any sort of tip - not to mention she did an excellent job on the hem. Would 10/10 recommend Wo's to anyone looking for quality work and values customer service. read more

I have brought 2 bridesmaids dresses here for alterations. One was floor length with beading all over. The service is great. Comparing with the American tailors, I prefer to have Asian style service. It is kind of difficult to describe. For instance, I tried many different American tailors, the American tailor would measure some estimate numbers, which is too abstract and careless. However, these Asian tailors would do the exact numbers and they put a lot of details into consideration (such as the difference while breathing and the slight difference between two different shoulders). It seems to me that this tailor is mainly interested in working on higher-end garments. My husband had an expensive (Paul Smith) shirt completely re-made, and it now looks fantastic, really couldn't fit him better (the alteration cost $70). However it was a different story for my cheap-and-cheerful summer skirt - the tailor was visibly unimpressed at being asked to alter it, has now had 2 attempts at taking it in, and it still isn't right (alteration cost $35). The shop itself is lovely and the lady who works there couldn't have been more helpful. We'll definitely be back next time something expensive needs fixing or altering, but I'm going to look elsewhere for my cheaper tailoring needs. read more

I went to three tailors in Flatiron that refused to help and told me that I needed to re-order the dress (which there wasn't time for). Wo's accepted the challenge and tailored the dress so that it was a perfect fit! Perfect length and just the amount of extra room so I could dance the night away at my best friend's wedding without adjusting it every minute. Oh, and they did this all in under 2 weeks. It was $40 to have a few inches cut off my sundress (two layers) and $100 to have my bridesmaids dress taken in (they had to remove the zipper which increases the price). Sheila and her staff of expert tailors worked till all hours to make every adjustment I asked for and to suggest their own creative ways of giving my dresses - all if which were too big everywhere except the waist for my petite frame - the most flattering shape. Undeterred, I went off the grid and discovered Wo's Custom Tailor, had a wonderful experience, and after three long, PATIENT fittings, I left feeling confident in the way my arduously selected MOB dresses fit. I trust Wo's honesty, their Eye and their fashion sense. They even helped me choose between two dresses - one of which would have been much more expensive to alter, so it would have been more profit for them, and it turned out to be a hit.
