This is the worst food I have ever eaten in my entire 17 years of life. The employees are very rude and annoying, they talk very loud when they're not working on food which is rich because the food is ugly and badly prepared. when we left, we accidentally left a single packet of soy sauce on the table, and one of the employees screamed at my 15-year-old friend to pick it up and put it in the garbage. YUMMY! The Bao was good. I had a BBQ Pork was really good. The Mongolian Beef was good, as well. The orange chicken, was okay, I didn't care for the flavoring. When I was in Chicago, I was in need of a light bite to eat, so I went to Wow Bao. They are reasonably priced, have good service, and the food is good. I had the Chicken Dumpling soup which was filling and had good seasoning. The dumpling was falling apart, but the flavor was good and it did the job. It was filling but not heavy. This location is also pretty easy to find this one, right on Wacker Drive, on your way to the Chicago Theatre. They have other locations around the city too. Overall, it was decent food, but not as good as I was expecting. It is a great place for cheap, quick bite to eat. :) read more

I am very picky with food especially Asian cuisine since I am Asian so i know exactly how this food should taste. Lol I just moved here in the US & i always feel like its a jackpot to get authentic Asian taste in most places i visited so far! I stay in Renaissance Hotel in downtown Chicago & they are in the same building. Their food is so good my favorite is Asian Hot Bun that comes in different flavor like terriyake chicken, thai curry, etc i taste all of it & its so very delicious! And i have to admit few minutes after i come down again from 18th floor where i stay and order another set of hot bun plus Mongolian beef on top of multi grain rice. I know its crazy but ate double of what i usually eat in a meal! That good! I dont review for the heck of writing I believe that this food place deserves thumbs up & appreciation for keeping up quality food not to mention they're super affordable! Really excited to try out Wow Bao. I ordered at a kiosk and got the chicken pad Thai bowl with 2 bao. My food came out quickly which was great. The bao was really good, I had a chicken teriyaki and a spicy beef. They were fluffy and warm and tasted great with soy sauce. The bowl on the other hand, was not good at all. It honestly tasted like a lean cuisine. It also came in a to go bowl instead of a glass bowl even though I ordered as 'dine in'. I barely ate any of it. I'm a bao fanatic and just happened to see this place while walking around Chicago. They have very interesting flavors, but it just didn't work for me. Even the standard bbq pork bao was just ok. The spicy kung pao bao, curry, pork belly, and kung pao. For some reason the flavors in all of these baos just didn't come together when eating. I'm fairly into Wao Bao's baos, specifically their Thai Curry/Teriyaki/Spicy Kung Pao Chicken, Spicy Mongolian Beef and Chocolate. But I'd be somewhere else when it comes to the dumplings; theirs are flat both in texture and flavour. The Spicy Kung Pao Chicken with rice is what I like most here. It's very delectable. And the ginger ale rules over the other beverages. So refreshing! All of the items in their menu are not pricey at all. They could get pretty crowded; nevertheless, I would still be more partial to this branch than the one inside the Water Tower Place in terms of seating space. The furnishing is plain, and the crew here are a bit more pleasant than those in the other branches that I visit. It's alright to eat here anytime I get a chance. read more

It makes me laugh when I see the "People Love us on Yelp" sticker on the door of Wow Bao, because I remember that my review for this place is mainly about my friend's rump. I've been back to Wow Bao a few times since I wrote that review and have not had any baos. I have discovered the wonderful Thai herb broth, which is perfect for a cold winter's day. Also, the ginger tea is delicious. The pot-stickers aren't too bad either. I mainly go for the herb broth, but today when I went to Wow Bao I saw a bowl of mongolian beef that the guy in front of me had ordered and I think I might try that next. Sad...thought I was really going to enjoy Wow Bao. It looks promising from the advertisements of bao and buns. We got a little not of everything to fully experience Wow Bao and sadly were not impressed. The rice/noodle bowls were greasy and unappetizing. The bao felt like a plastic tasting bun filled with mush. The potstickers almost had me, but they felt like they were seals with hard crunchy glue. I will say there is one thing I would try again that might be their saving grace with me: the pork belly bun. This was the only think that tasted fresh. So I would be willing to try again. Nice location with ample seating. It wasn't immediately clear which part of the counter to place my order or from where to pick up my food. It turned out that I was supposed to place my order by the registers. I asked for some baos that weren't on the morning menu but I was willing to wait five minutes for them to be steamed. I appreciated that they did that for me. I thought that my two six-packs of baos were pricey (a little over $20). I also found the charisma of the staff to be lack-luster. The food was good, and the order mechanism was novel and interesting. I would definitely come back. The reason they get 5 stars today is because of the outstanding customer service they provided today, and it wasn't even to me. Let me tell you the story. A young lady dropped her order, with something hot in it onto her leg, and then the floor. The Wow Bao employees not only came out and gave her rags to clean herself off, but got her a new order and told her not to worry about it. Then, going above and beyond what one would expect in a fast food setting, a gallant employee went into the back somewhere and provided some aloe vera gel for the young lady's mild burn. A little human kindness is often so rare in a big city, and so today the employees of Wow Bao get 5 stars and my admiration. read more

My first time at WowBao because they just opened a new location in my work building. My initial hope and anticipation of yummy vegan options were dashed when i found out the baos have egg in them and the pad thai salad had fish sauce. The soup broth is also made with chickens. I ended up getting the green vegetable potsticker combo with spicy peanut noodles. The potstickers tended to fall apart spilling the contents and the peanut noodles were a little tough like they were stale or old. I also had a fresh ginger ale with pomegranate which was tasty. Overall not spectacular (it IS fast food though i guess) but edible. The flavors did err on the brighter side of standard fast food though. Service was quick and friendly. read more

Let's not get too carried away here - this is still a fast food place. I don't know what pops up in your mind when I say "fast food" but whatever it is, the words "authentic", "healthy" and "fresh" should probably be kept in check. I'm not necessarily saying this establishment doesn't deliver on these fronts but you and I both know a meal which is prepackaged frozen to a given place only to have them steam it back to edible status isn't going to be at the top of any ranking for "authenticity", "freshness" nor "healthiness". The deal is this - this place is really decent and "decent" is the operative word here. The atmosphere will remind you of a high(er) end eatery w/ its soothing interior, shiny workers and open-kitchen giving you the illusion of quality and freshness. It's a good trick, mind you, and it's a trick that's very welcome. You can't fault the management for trying to make its place presentable and nice. I wish more establishments would follow this line of thinking and cleaned their places up. The food, again, is decent. Baos are warm (as they should be) and edible. I found the Thai Curry to be the best on their menu, if you're looking for advice on where to start. If you go, I highly recommend getting the Hot & Sour broth. They serve this in a cup usually reserved for coffee so when you order and they give you an unmarked cup, don't be shocked. That's your broth. You will enjoy it. Trust me. I have no idea what's in this broth but it really is the sole reason I'm giving this place 4 stars. I think after you try it, you'll begin to understand what I mean. read more

A variety of bun specialties, of which my favorite is the very spicy Mongolian beef. Perhaps best avoided at weekday lunch hours, when the line (mostly for takeaway) can be literally out the door. Went here after looking up restaurants nearby on Yelp and for something close to hotel. Bao buns sounded wonderful. I had the pork gyoza (pan fried) as recommended by positive reviews. They were delicious! Tried both the soy ginger and sesame mustard sauces. My favorite was the soy ginger. Got a 6 pack of buns to go. I chose the Thai curry chicken, BBQ pork, edamame and coconut custard. All were good, but the BBQ pork was exceptional and Thai curry memorable. Edamame my least favorite because it has red peppers in it also. They were smaller than I'm used to getting but still very good. I came about an hour before closing and everything tasted fresh and had no complaints about the buns being dry or rubbery like some other reviews. The house made Pineapple coconut ginger ale sort of tasted like a virgin Pina Colada. All in all it was a great, quick meal on a windy, rainy Chicago night. Loved the baos at the Water Tower location and now that there is a closer location it is even better. This one is faster also. There are a couple boas they don't have at this one. Being able to get breakfast is what makes this location better then the Water Tower one. One veggie option and two other meat breakfast boas. Plus you can get coffee deal also. read more
