I've heard nothing but great reviews about this place from friends who have dined here . It is set within the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel, so the place has ample parking within the Hotel parking area. The restaurant is very neat and clean with a sorta Hawaiian feel. The Wait staff are possibly the best service oriented providers in any fine dining restaurant here on the Big Island of Hawaii. I am a local, so I've feel I can fairly judge the service. We hosted out of state guests for dinner, and they were extremely happy with the food and the service as was I and my wife. I truly recommend this restaurant for its quality food and service. You'll love the views of Hilo Bay as well. Recently went to the Sunday brunch at WSW. For $69.95 per person, the food selections, presentation and quality was not great. The buffet is located in an adjoining room and not in the same area as the dining area. If you are someone who is not fully body capable reaching and getting to the some of the food items will be difficult without assistance. Some items are on pillars and hot items have lids that you have to fully remove. I noticed that the walking area in the buffet room might be a little too narrow for some. The dining room area is very spacious and has a very nice view of the water. The crab clusters were horrible. Because they sat in water, they were very mushy and waterlogged. They were also very bland. The servers were very attentive and nice. The front desk could use a little more training on decorum. One of the employees was constantly looking at their phone and took awhile to notice that someone was waiting to be acknowledged. This happened quite a few times. read more

Came to their Father's Day buffet, the ONE thing the family and I was excited for was the crab legs. Turned out extremely disappointed. OVERCOOKED AND TASTELESS. It was like it was boiled the night before and left inside the same water... the food warmer was filled with submerged crab legs. And TODAY, 8/11/24 we came again and see if the crab legs will be better this time.. NOPE!!! Overcooked and extremely tasteless where it just ruined me and my families appetite. And I think the chef's don't know what they're doing with these crab legs. Crab legs here are very disappointing. 1st time was around June for Father's Day, we thought the crab legs just tasted like that because our scheduled time was a little later... then we're back today for a birthday, scheduled right when it opened up. Silverware looked like it belonged at a buffet, we got seated at a table that was not cleaned, presentation of the food was that of a public school cafeteria, food took way too long, 5 min check from server came 20 mins after served. We usually like reservations for 6:30-7:00 but they couldn't take us later than 5:30. We arrived on time and promptly seated. Nice restaurant, very clean and spacious. During our dinner at about 6:30 I noticed that the restaurant was still pretty empty with servers standing on the side waiting till they are needed. I cannot understand why we couldn't get a reservation at 6:30 when the restaurant was still empty. I could have easily chose another restaurant that would take us later. We ordered coctails and appetizer next. We had the raw oysters, enriji mushrooms grilled and the bone marrow. The oysters were tiny, tasty and expensive, I believe it was $26 for six. The bone marrow was probable the best that I've ever had, and very generous portion. The Caesar's salad was good, not exceptional. My wife and I shared the prime rib dinner and my son ordered the pork shank that looked like osso bucco. The prime rib was cooked perfectly but lacked flavor, the searing on the outside needed more salt. I make prime rib at home and I always rub and marinate the outside of the roast with shoyu, my mom's secret. The au jus was a big disappointment, very weak in flavor. Honestly, the instant au jus packet you buy in the market is better than this. Good au jus is what makes prime rib addicting. The pork shank was better, it was braised like lamb shanks and it was delicious. My son also enjoyed his smoked whiskey. The selections on the menu is small and the meal set me back $300 so maybe I might return just because the service was efficient and friendly. read more

Finally gave this place a try for dinner (they serve early breakfast and then close from 10:00 until reopening for dinner 5:00). Service gets top nods for sure, although about 60% full during our 5:00-7 timeframe. Between our excellent server Amber, a manager, another server that made the rounds taking away any used plates and rolling out food to your table and then finally the sommelier that brought over the whiskey cart, service was impressive. The atmosphere pleasant with the scenic bay views facing coconut island, the tasteful music and decor. Could maybe use some color with palms/plants/flowers. We started with a cocktail, coffee and for appetizers mussels and caprese salad. We asked for bread/rolls and butter but oddly only offer garlic toast points? The lillikoi margarita good but requested on ice and came in a very small classic style margarita glass, purée was thick on bottom $13. My Long Island ice tea, weak and sweet $10. The coffee was very good. The mussels $18 and caprese $12 both very good, decent portion. The toast points though are thin/tiny, needed a heartier bread to soak up all the delicious broth. For entrees we ordered the hearty size/price seafood skillet $89 to share along with the appetizer size parm-truffle skinny fries $10. Meanwhile hubby ordered a smoked whiskey, friendly sommelier poured/smoked the shot of whiskey table side, fun element. All food was served promptly and enjoyed the presentation of coming out on a cart. Meals arrived looking pretty impressive. Our seafood skillet included one Maine lobster slit length wise, a tiny snow crab cluster, one Norwegian lobster ( actually size of a large shrimp), and mussels/clams. All good but didn't even bother with the crab, 3 skinny legs as big around as my pinky finger. Should have been bigger or a lot more and another Shrimp plus come with actual bread/rolls again needed for all the broth. The lobster shells were a bit of a challenge to get out of the shell, should be cracked better. But overall the seafood was very enjoyable. The truffle fries w/ the fine grated salty parm delightful, although could have been warmer. Must say we were surprised that they don't offer lobster or seafood bisque with all the shellfish they serve. What a waste not repurposing into a rich bisque, no soup even on menu. Must add a couple other comments I hope get discussed with chef/management. They have an adjoining lounge/restaurant with some different food offerings. We asked if we could order something off that menu as well since it comes from same kitchen, same business. Our server told us they don't allow that?? Really, not sure why that's an issue. We saw servers coming from kitchen going past our table to the lounge. We were wanting a prime rib dip or the soft shell crab sliders from the other menu but not possible. The other issue is our server said NO substitutions at all!! All we asked for was a different salad dressing, seriously?? Wasn't like I asked for lobster on my burger instead of bacon! Management decisions like this really annoy dining guests. There has to be some reasonable flexibility for repeat business. Other than those hiccups we would go back. Probably to the lounge side though. We don't typically go out and spend $150+ on a meal for just a dinner ( this was nearly $200 w/tip) but we did enjoy it. read more

I know this steakhouse is just starting out so I'm sure there a lot of "bugs" they need to work out. So I'm willing to review again when they're a little more established. First off, It didn't start out super well. We checked in 6 minutes early for our 7:30 reservation and they said they'd text us when our table was ready so we went outside. At about 7:45 we went in to check on our table since it was getting a little past the reserved time. They said they text us but we never got a text. No one came out to look for us either. Ok, not a huge deal, but not the best. We waited 15 minutes for our waitress to come to our table after being seated. I'm also pretty sure we only got 2 of 3 pages of the menu because when our server gave us the dessert menu at the end of our meal it has the Keiki meals listed as well as mixed drinks and beer. When they first gave us our menu we only got the main course and wine menus. It's also hard to tell who the wait staff is exactly. So by the time we got our orders in it was 8:00. Not horrible, but not the best. Thankfully they brought our apps out first and pretty quickly. It was missing an order of fries. When our server came by we asked her and she had accidentally ordered it to come with the meal instead of an app. Good thing we asked. Service after this was fine, no complaints. As for the food...it was nothing crazy special. We had the prime rib for $36, $40 NY steak, 32 oz bone-in Prime rib is HUGE, and filet was OK. The menu leaves a bit to be desired. Most steakhouses have steamed veggies and mashed potatoes as a side, but none here. There is no Ribeye, which we thought was odd for a steakhouse not to have. No soups or bread rolls either. It took 45 minutes for us to get our food and by the time we left we had been there for 2 hours. Our server was really nice and friendly but I'm guessing she doesn't have toooo much Restaurant experience, but she was definitely trying hard. Still, I'm definitely willing to try it out again because I get so excited when there are new places here in Hilo! I made reservation for dinner, we were staying nearby so we walked there. We were a little early but they did seat us. The place looked ok, more catered to the wine drinkers. We ordered two appetizers, bone marrow and poke. The bone marrow was good but the poke was more t like onion poke with very little fish and those pieces were really small. I had the 1/2 rack baby back ribs and my wife had the lobster with baked potato. My ribs were so overcooked that I could tap on it with my fork and my wife could hear it from across the table. It was microwaved for sure. My wife's lobster was ok but her baked potato was also over microwaved and the cheese on top didn't look good at all. We just ate what we could, paid and left. We did leave the waiter a good tip as he was very nice. I also booked it as a birthday dinner but no one mentioned it even though it asked if was a special occasion when booking. Been here when it first opened their doors, not impressed at all. The waiter was okay the waitress was more focused on being a snob than anything else- when a customer pays for wine their is a line of what's poured in your glass, was like she was afraid she may go over the 3 sip limit! Food well four of us had a different cut. It wasn't anything to brag about, prime rib was boring, others had steak mediocre as I was told. Ambiance is nice but they need to step it up on flavor and price wise well I guess I'm paying for the ambiance but I had better. For Hilo, for the price well this place could be so much better. Blame it on management that's all I can say. A better choice is seaside restaurant the prime rib is excellent! Hang on .... back to WSW YEARS ago.... It was our first time there and we were a little disappointed before ordering. It was Tomahawk Tuesday (whole reason for booking on a Tuesday) and once seated we find out that they were sold out. The order they had from the supplier had only 14 Tamohawks for that week. I was shocked because taking in consideration, you just open up and are promoting that for Tuesdays and run out. The crayfish didnt have much taste and was slightly overcooked. The truffle fries...in my head I was thinking homemade fries but it comes out like premade fries. Not what I expected but they were perfectly seasoned and complimented with the aioli. The oysters as for that my husband thought that one of us ate an oyster so he looked at our plates and no one had an empty shell. Well it was still alive and crawled off or somehow the kitchen didn't double check their count and sent it out. So they bring out the 1 missing oyster. I would've at least brought 2 for the inconvenience. Oh well! Dinner we had to go with plan B since there were no Tomahawks available. So prime rib was the choice. I ordered the 32oz Bone-In Prime Rib cooked at medium well. It was seasoned and cooked perfectly to my liking plus it had the smallest bone. The truffle butter I wouldn't waste my money again but worth the try. All in all, for their 2nd week of opening, they did ok. I figure they need a little more time to get the system down. So it will be a little bit before I do go to WSW again. My husband and I ate here on our last night in Hilo. And it was one of the best dinner dates we had that weekend. My husband had the prime rib which he said it was the best he had so far! You definitely did not need any sauce lol. I had the filet mignon w/lobster which was just as delicious. Next time I'll get the prime rib lol. Our waitress was very nice too! Aloha, We totally didn't expect the new breakfast menu , THE BEST RED VELVET PANCAKES, But overall the pancakes ARE FRICKEN AMAZING MELT IN DA MOUTH! BEST PANCAKES I EVER TASTED AT ANY RESTAURANT and I mean this... I had a starving breakfast w/ side pancakes. Portuguese sausage was incredibly soft and juicy goes well with that soft crispy bacon which was heaven, I had over-med which they need more practice. My husband had the steak and eggs, STEAK WAS ON POINT JUICY, TENDER AND SOFT like it should be. As for drinks they no longer serve beer during breakfast so we got a mimosa and screwdriver, my husband hates girly drinks he calls them. And for the soda glasses I really wish they gave refills because the glass is tiny. I made a reservation and literally walked down from my hotel room right after. We were greeted by a warm and friendly hostess and seated right away with an ocean front view of Hilo Bay and a sweet sunset. Our waitress immediately introduced herself and offered drinks. She was very friendly and professional with a touch of tita, which I greatly appreciated. A lot of these "fancy" restaurants have waiters that are too professional with no personality that leaves you feeling cold and like you don't belong, but aunty made us feel right at home! Aunty and her staff checked up on us frequently and our drinks were always full. She even went to the kitchen to check on our food when she saw a table that came after us got their food before us, she was on it! As for the food.... TBH, I've read some negative reviews, so I wasn't expecting much. We started off with the truffle fries and bone marrow. Let me tell you, it was delicious! The fries were crispy and the truffle aioli was so flavorful. The bone marrow was rich and buttery and wasn't drowning in condiments like at other restaurants I've tried. We enjoyed it very much. For my entree, I got the butterfish. It was so sweet, moist and buttery and they give you TWO fillets. That was some good butterfish! My friend got the ribs and it looked very moist and falling off the bone, he enjoyed it very much as well. Overall, this was a very enjoyable dinner. The staff were very friendly and attentive. This is the first steakhouse I've been to where the chef didn't know how to cook a steak. We had a party of 10 and we ordered: - 2 NY Strip steaks (Medium rare) - 2 Filet mignon (Medium rare) - 24 oz Prime Rib (Medium rare) - The WSW Burger (Medium) - Linguine Vangole - Keiki Nuggets & Fries - 2 Side salads - 2 Lobster Macs - 2 Loaded baked potatoes - Grilled Asparagus - Lobster Tail - Caesar salad - 2 Soups I'll start with the good. The prime rib was huge, cooked perfectly and very tender. Crust had very little flavor but the creamy horseradish and au jus made up for it. For the price, this was well worth it (also the only reason for the 2nd star). The linguine was ok, had a bit of grit in the clams, but decent flavor. The soups were good and the asparagus was cooked well, not mushy, nice flavor. Lobster mac was ok. The rest of it was abysmal. All the steaks (NY Strips and filets) were over done, medium doneness. For a "steakhouse" I'd expect higher quality meat and cooked how it was asked for. The strips had a chalky texture, was tough, and had no flavor. I usually expect a steak to have salt and pepper on the outside with maybe some butter or have the steaks ages to have a better taste. It tasted like a cheap choice steak that was cooked without seasoning. The filets were way overdone, again, tough and tasteless. We sent 1 filet back to get recooked. 20 mins later it came back....raw. Completely bloody throughout with a slight sear on the outside. They asked if we wanted it recooked and we said no, this is ridiculous. The burger was dry and tasteless. It had some tomatoes, onions, and mushroom with cheese. All of it had no seasoning. Worst of all, the keiki nuggets were dino nuggets from costco, and they were burnt. How do you mess up dino nuggets?! Sides were not much better, the baked potatoes were undercooked, the caesar salad had no dressing on it and the side salads were wet, like they were rinsed and thrown on the plate without being drained first. Lobster tail was overcooked. First red flag was when we sat down, the waiter came up and let us know that the kitchen was backed up and it might take a little more time to get the food out, even though the restaurant was more than 2/3 empty. Second red flag was when the waiter said the "Fresh catch" wasn't fresh and was a frozen halibut. Last time I checked, Hawaii had fresh fish available. We talked to the manager and let him know our disappointment with the food, he did remove some items and gave us a 10% discount. I will never be coming back here again. They need to remove the "Steak" part out of their name because they can't cook steak. My 11 year old could've probably cooked the steak better. read more

Husband & I went to WSW a few nights ago to celebrate our anniversary (#47). We'd been there several times before, but this time was by far the best. Only a few negatives: I was looking forward to ordering the lamb chops, which I saw on the online menu, but for some reason was not offered on the restaurant menu. It would be nice if the online menu(s) were updated. Also, I tried the bone marrow appetizer and it was good ... but not enough of it for the price. Positives: We were seated quickly by the window, as my reservation requested. Our water, bread and drinks all arrived promptly. Server Eric was attentive but not hovering and made helpful suggestions while we ordered. Husband really enjoyed his tenderloin & lobster, with loaded baked potato & grilled veggies, plus ceasar salad (extra). My baby back ribs, also with loaded baked potato, grilled veggies & asparagus (extra), were to die for and there were plenty of them. If I could give this a million zero I would. First I made a reservation for a birthday day dinner. The people in the front weren't friendly she was wearing her frowning face weirdo. But we are happy and nice. Our server her name is Lorraine I could offer her a mouthwash or something because the breath is unpleasant Jesus Christ. Another server was not looking happy lol either. The guy who gave us bread was good I could give him a tip but I couldn't find him. The rest are resting b*tch's face. We ordered our food took an hour we didn't complain or anything we were happy because the people who served us were unhappy and miserable looking I don't know why. When the food arrived doesn't even taste good and it was expensive but it was okay because we could afford to pay. Then the cake I requested was a cookie monster lol just a horrible-looking experience beyond unbelievably terrible. If I had known that this place wasn't good we could have gone to Jacky's Rays where people there are well-trained and professional and smell good and know how to smile with Aloha. If we have that kind of expensive food at least we got treated us nice. we are professional people but low-key. So they judge us based on our clothes lol. The ambiance was horrible, and not friendly at all. When we tried to pay because we paid separately. The server Lorraine said, according to her that my credit card was insufficient how on earth does a credit card get insufficient? Does she own a credit card? Like come one judge me if you are better than me. I gave her my Platinum American Express. Like she was trying to embarrass me. I never leave reviews but the quality of this experience was horrendous. All of the food including the steak was cold and not one dish was decent. We had to go to McDonalds immediately after leaving. I wouldn't be surprised to see this restaurant on Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares. read more

Underrated For Sure! Thoroughly enjoyed our evening at WSW. From the New Yor to the Ahi to the crab cakes - everything was delicious. Service was attentive and friendly. Great experience all around. Definitely recommend. read more
