After so many years of coming back when I'm in town ... this is the third time that all their Noodle items did not meet their own standards!! As you can see I have been coming back to Kenny's since 2018 ( a must stop-by when Im in Portland ), their quality has been slowly eroded over the years, noodles are not al dente at all, in fact it was way over cooked, same as the wontons ( the wrappings are falling off ). And the Beef Brisket & Tendons are almost unrecognizable ( check out my photos from before ). So much for looking forward each time when Im in Portland ... I have to finally say adios, farewell to Kenny!!
Kenny's Noodle House is a delicious tasty Cantonese-style food. It's simple cafe food that is either porridge with a large variety of things that can be inside. There is also noodle soup so if you want something hearty this could be your jam. But right then I was a little bit cold and I wanted a nice bowl of porridge. Don't forget to order the Chinese donuts they are deep fried and you can dip them in the porridge or soup broth! They are so so good! Overall I liked my porridge dish you can order a small or a large and I should have ordered a large because I literally finished all of it. I ordered their pumpkin and rock cod porridge and added a century egg with it. This reminded me of my mom's porridge which I miss so much. Overall it was so good and I would totally come back here.
Phenomenal noodle soup. Perfect dinner on a dark, rainy Portland night. I already have plans with my best friend to go back and try toe congee. Side note; I loved the tea they served as well. It wasn't bitter at all, suuuuper nice.
Fall/winter season always calls for soup and I love adding Kenny's Noodle House to my dinner rotation. My go to is their large #8- wonton & sui-kau noodle soup and add roe fishball. The broth simply warms the soul and I love their wontons. Their chinese donut and pan fried fish cake & shrimp cake is also worth a try!
Portland prides itself as a foodie city, but as far as the Asian food scene (though there is solid Korean food), as a city, the PDX doesn't quite measure up to other foodie cities. That said, I have found Kenny's Noodle House to be a solid go-to in my travels to Portland. First, the ambience. This is a simple, no-frills spot. No need to worry about what to wear - you could wear sweats if you so please. Very casual, has that authentic atmosphere with Chinese tunes softly in the background as well. This is most definitely a Cantonese cuisine spot. When I was introduced by a friend here on my first trip to the restaurant, I was told the noodle soups and congee were the main things here. Upon a quick glance of the menu, it was clear the noodle soups were Cantonese in nature (therefore I ordered the wonton noodle soup with traditional Cantonese thin egg noodles) and the congee variety was strong (on a subsequent trip, I ordered the preserved egg with pork). I happen to love a good Cantonese-style congee with all the flavorings all deeply locked in, with the diced green onions on top to garnish and cap off the flavoring. All in all, the food was tasty! Totally did the trick. The congee was soothing to the soul as it should be. White pepper is a good thing to add for those who like to add a little kick. I also personally love adding some red vinegar to taste. The wonton noodle soup was also good. The meat was moist with each bite, and it helps that the soup is right there to add to that effect and flavoring. Service was also good. Very attentive and sweet. There's a parking lot in front of the restaurant - most of the time, you should be fine to find a spot. Honestly, I have no complaints about this place. I wouldn't say it's as spectacular as some Houston Cantonese spots I've been to (I'm a fan of Tan Tan for similar dishes plus the A1 iykyk lol), so I will rate this place 4 stars. However, absolutely still very solid, a good place to go to in Portland, and among the best you'll find in Portland.
Noodle soup has a strong ammonia smell and taste!!! Beef brisket was so soft & tender, the dumplings were so yummy. The congee was good as well especially with the Chinese donuts. Service was great, fast & friendly. Overall, food was really good, the AMMONIA smell and taste was just a little unbearable. I'd probably avoid the noodle soup.
i really liked my food here! the space is small but there is a decent amount of seating. the noodles are very bouncy and chewy which i loved. i like that they give a lot of vegetables but i wish they gave more meat. my favorite was the braised beef dry noodles. the flavor was amazing and i love how tender the meat was
I come here for the steamed pork liver, not the charm. I've been coming here on and off since 2016, mostly for one reason: the steamed pork liver. I haven't written a review until now because honestly, I don't think they care either way, and that's kind of the vibe: take it or leave it. They've been around long enough to know their niche, and they're not bending over backward for stars. Here's what keeps me coming back: - You can order a side of steamed pork liver, kidney, stomach, or beef tripe. I enjoy mine just as is or with whatever else I'm craving. - It's one of the few places in Portland that still offers these specific cuts done in a traditional way. The not-so-great stuff: - Chinese donuts are hit or miss, sometimes crunchy, sometimes stale. - Wonton noodle soup disappointed last visit. The noodles had such a strong yeasty smell I could barely eat them. Their wontons are whole-shrimp style (not minced), which might be how they've always done it and I just forgot. - Service is nearly non-existent, so don't expect warm hospitality. Last time I went, the lady asked "no tip?" before I even finished paying in cash. My receipt wasn't in English either. It's a tiny space, tables packed tightly together so prepare to wait or get cozy with strangers during peak hours. Parking: They do have a lot, but use caution pulling in/out from SE Powell. Overall: You come here for the specific dishes that are hard to find elsewhere. If you can stomach the attitude and uneven food quality, it's still a niche gem, just know what you're walking into.
I have driven by this place for years and have never stopped, despite hearing amazing things about it. Since I was in town and wanted to check it out, I decided to stop by shortly after lunch on a Saturday. The parking is unfortunate given getting in and out can be difficult with traffic. When I went in, there was only two tables free (originally one table that was split into two), so I was seated with someone else who was not with me. I was okay with this tho, since they were quite busy. It's rather active and noisy in here given the small space, but it doesn't feel claustrophobic or cramped. I was given a menu almost immediately and brought a cup of hot tea. I placed my order, number 19, which is the sliced kidney and sliced liver noodle soup, with thin egg noodles. I also added a Chinese donut. The waitress seemed a bit surprised that I ordered the 19, probably because I'm as white as snow and was wearing work boots and a Carhartt jacket, but I'm used to that. (She wanted to make sure I was aware of what I was ordering). The Chinese donut came out first and was amazing. It was hot and crispy and slightly oily in the best way possible. They brought me out a dipping sauce which was soy sauce and japanenos. My noodle dish came out probably about 5 minutes later. The noodle dish was very good. The texture of the noodles were perfect, and the broth was delicious. The liver was sliced thinly and did not taste overly hematic (that iron flavor liver gets). I would have appreciated if the kidneys had been sliced more, since they were in two very large pieces... But all things considered it had a very good flavor and texture. Nothing was overcooked or mushy, and the table has ample sauces and condiments. I don't know if I would order the dish again, mainly because I usually like my kidneys, sliced thinner and also marinated a bit, but that's not a bad thing, just personal preference. I highly recommend stopping in if you are in the area. The menu is pretty straight forward, and I think next time I would try some of their congee.
I'm happy to report the beloved HKG style noodle and rice porridge joint, while with different owners now still kept the same recipes and execution. Maybe about 9 months ago my views were touch and go for a while as they changed up the wonton noodle soup broth quite a bit... but the dried shrimp infused flavors are back to "normal" and everything else from the beef stew, to the fermented bean curd sauced veggies are like the original. Thank goodness because this is THE singular HKG style noodle joint in PDX that reminds me of "home". It is without a doubt a hole-in-the-wall vibe, the restrooms will be a big tell... come for the food, there is no (and never had) ambience except for the HKG simple eatery feel.
I know this place doesn't look spectacular from the outside. Yeah, sure, it's a little worn, graveled road, right parking spaces, not the cleanest walls, and some of the faux bricks needed to be taped down, and the windows look like they haven't been washed since it opened up--but the food is spot on. There's limited seating, so be prepared to wait or just hang out. My kids love the food. It's comfort food for Chinese folks like me. The broth is flavorful and fragrant. You cannot go wrong with anything here.

The parking lot is just as small. Our go-to is the brisket noodles which are a hit and the clam and century egg congee. Always get the Chinese donuts to complete our meals. So yumm and good! Service is rushed but you can't be mad. It's the culture and quick turnaround for serving people.
If you're from Seattle, this is the Portland version (dupe??) of mikes noodle house. Best wonton soup in Portland, quick service & reasonable price/portion! Will definitely come back. Pro tip: next door to Truong coffee so get a cup while you wait for a table
What an amazing spot for breakfast! Authentic Cantonese style. Ordered congee and poached pork liver - super clean and fresh-tasting! What also stood out was the service. The waitress was so attentive and kind. Served us hot tea when we seated. Last but not least, the homemade hot sauce was fire!!!!!! So much umami flavor in it beyond the heat. Kenny's is a Cantonese Noodle House in the Portland area. The specialize in wonton noodles. They serve other Canto favorites like congee. The wontons and sui kai that they serve are good. My wife's complaint about it was that they don't give you much. My daughter's wonton noodle soup only came with 4 wontons. My beef brisket and sui kau over noodle came with 3 both 3 pieces of meat and three sui kau. We get a little more in Southern California. My wife kept complaining to me about not enough wontons and meat. The Saipan congee didn't come with very many ingredients. The food was itself was pretty good. The portion was not. Service was good. The boss lady seemed to know all her customers, and knew her customer's usual orders. It's a good place. It's not the 626 or even Richmond (Vancouver). It might be the best in the area. read more
We came here for lunch. It as rainy and cold and we want some comfort food. We were seated right away. The server brought us menu and hot tea. We ordered Shrimp and Pork Wonton Noodle Soup and Beef Brisket Noodle Soup and Preserved Egg and Pork Congee with Chinese Donut. The food came out quickly. The Congee is so fulfilling. Lots of good ingredients to comfort the chill of the weather. Then our noodle soup came and everything was delicious. Big portions of shrimp and pork wontons. There was about six wontons in the soup. The beef brisket was delicious. Very flavorful and hearty. This is a must go for some good home cooked comfort noodle soup and congee. There are about 77 different types of wonton noodles soup and congee. Many different types of protein and you could definitely mix and match and share. read more

KNH has been a comfort food staple for SO LONG. The restaurant is super small so expect a wait if you're coming during peak. I come here preferably for the wonton soup and steamed pork intestine, liver, and tripe. I'm Vietnamese so I grew up eating these parts differently and I enjoy how they steam it in a nice ginger aromatic way and pair it with the dipping sauce. Truly a delicacy. For those who aren't adventurous, they offer the same dish with other more commons meats like fish, pork, beef and tripe. Would def recommend sharing as a table one of the steamed side orders. Their Chinese donut is also very popular! I'm very picky with congee and I find their congee to be very bland and too thick for me but they have tons of condiments on the table to adjust to your tastebuds. Simple and comforting on a cold day when you're iso something to warm your belly! read more
While visiting for the weekend my friends and I wanted to start out with a delicious, hearty lunch. Kenny's was just that for our first meal in town & right after our flight. The inside felt quaint & comforting. The menu has various appetizers, soups and noodle dishes. I opted for the wonton soup which was bomb. The broth was flavorful, noodles with cooked perfectly, meat was juicy and the wonton were super tasty. I ate the entire bowl with happiness. All of my friends liked their meals as well. Wonton noodle soup is my comfort food and this place makes it well! I love going to the restaurant, the service is fast and welcoming. They served us warm tea to enjoy on a cold Saturday afternoon. I recommend bringing cash to pay if you can, they appreciate it! The place is small but the food comes out quick so you don't stay for too long. read more

I had these pork belly rice noodles the other day and wow--seriously one of the best things I've eaten in a while. The pork belly was insanely tender with just the right amount of crisp on the edges, and it practically melted in my mouth. The noodles soaked up all that savory and the spices were on point. There were hints of garlic, and I'm Italian, so that's a weakness. I've gotten dumpling soup from here prior and highly recommend it too. read more

My go to place no more, came at 8:55 with still customers in the store, I try and come weekly after arriving from Phoenix, same waitress but looks like 8:45 is okay but 8:55 isn't to get served. Will take my evening weekly business somewhere else from now on! Division is but a few blocks away, will get my Chinese fix elsewhere read more

The line was out the door, but moved very fast when I was there. The servers are always very nice and fast with the ordering process, but definitely still give you enough time to search the entire menu. I ordered the kidney and liver noodle soup. Liver is something that drives people away because it can be dry and have a very strong taste. I have no idea what they do to their liver, but it has the typical liver taste but lessened by a lot. It is not dry whatsoever either. I've been coming here since I was in middle school and the quality of it still hasn't changed. If you're into crunchy textures and things that soak up liquid well, definitely get the Chinese donut to dip into any soup/congee. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone if you're looking for a nice hot bowl of soup that is very reasonably priced (I believe it was 14 for the soup). read more
Been hankering for some noodles. Saw a food blogger experience at Kenny's. Decided to try it out. Ordered the large won ton noodles with beef brisket. Nice broth, tender tendons in the brisket, chunky pork bits in the won ton, al dente noodles. I hit a pocket of something that smelled like ammonia. Sampled each item in the bowl again, it was the noodles, I'm thinking, I hope I don't get sick. Several hours later and many trips to bathroom. There was couple of minutes of wait time for a table. It's a very busy small restaurant crammed with as much tables and chairs as possible. Lots of interior security cameras. Fast service, pleasant waitresses. read more
Been meaning to hit this spot up for a long time now and couldn't be happier we finally did! The inside is cozy and casual. One staff works the whole front of house and she's very friendly and efficient. We tried the Beef Brisket with Wonton Noodle Soup that came with tons of thin egg noodles, super tender beef, and some of the most well-stuffed wontons I've had (a whole shrimp in each!). The broth was rich and beefy. This was a heartwarming bowl of food. We also got the Spiced Pork Lo Mein. I LOVED this dish. The slightly sweet and peppery stewed pork sauce worked so well with the thicker egg noodles. The fresh bokchoy cut through the fattiness of the sauce well. Would definitely order again. The side of Fried Doughnut was also very fresh and crispy. This with a bowl of their congee and soy milk would be heavenly. The price, portion, and quality can't be beat here. Food always hits, consistently good and served fresh. Service is quick, they do only take cash which is slightly inconvenient. The restaurant is small and homey, is always filled with families and people who seem like regulars. This place has been a favorite and i would recommend if you are a congee fan! read more

I was quickly seated and the food was served pretty quickly. It's a small dining space, designed for quick dine in. I ordered congee with preserved egg and beef. I thought the food was so so. I liked the texture of the congee but didn't love the meat. It didn't feel well seasoned and there was a texture to it I didn't know how to describe. There is a small parking lot for the customers. read more

You can ask for rice noodles which shouldn't have any egg/dairy in them! Not sure they have any vegan soup bases though.

Is there an option for a non-fish broth? It's really stinky and risky if you order to-go. Make sure it doesn't spill in your car.
I wish there was because I was so disappointed today with lunch and the same for my husband . Way heavy on fishy smell and taste it ruined the dish
