We come here all the time, especially when we have friends visiting from out of town. It's such a delicious and consistent choice. The downtown location has, in our experience, usually been a longer wait so keep that in mind if you have a big group. The newer sellwood location is a little quieter but just as good! This is easily our favorite restaurant in Portland.

This space is really large and can accommodate big groups. The food ia delicious. I got the green beans and Japanese eggplant and it was incredible. Out table also shared the dan dan noodles which was the perfect blend of peanut and spice. I will definitely be back. The menu is full of different things to try.

Hands down my new favorite restaurant in SE! I highly recommend the Szechuan Beef Noodle Soup - the beef was extremely tender and I finally found a Szechuan that is worthy of the spice level (tip: it's even spicier the next day). I am not a fan of green beans but had to try them due to the hype. I can now say I love green beans! But only these ! The service was 10 star top notch! Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful with recommendations, service was quick and cocktails were flowing. My only regret is not asking to see if they had a side of spicy chili oil for the soup dumplings. Trust me, there will be a next time!

We ordered several dishes, and while everything tasted good, the portions felt smaller compared to the downtown location. The rice bowls we got also had some lint in them, which wasn't great. They did just open recently, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, but there's definitely some room for improvement.

Great staff and service. Reasonable prices and good flavor. Everything came out in good order, thought their green beans were the best.

Food and service are ok. They use a very pungent spray on their tabletops. They should stop using it

The waitress took us to a table with no place setting and did not ask if we wanted tea. She never came back. Staff with the cart comes over and just rattling off names of items on her cart. My cousin inquired about an item, she did not respond and looked at her funny. I order item my cousin wanted. Staff just mumbled and put dim sum on table. It's like they just want to unload their cart. She left and another staff came by. Before she starts. I said I cannot eat without utensils, plates, napkins and what about tea? She runs to get these items. I inquired about the tea, what is it? She goes it's red tea it's the only one they serve. By the time we finished, we asked to tally the bill. On staff member says go to the front and pay bill and get containers. I went up to get containers no one in front. Everyone busy setting up for 3PM. I flagged someone. She goes take whatever you need. There were stacked containers and cartons. Family went to pay bill and waited 10 minutes for someone to come to counter. Service is poor here. Minimal the very least. No one checks to see if you want anything. Would I come back. Probably not. As for the food, yes it's dim sum but nothing to rave about. The Shu Mai do not have shrimp. The bean curd wrapped in meat and veggies tasted a little off.

Unfortunately some wrap were broken so it's already dried but mostly fine The dry pot is ok. Huge amount of meat though. Way too much meat. Couldn't finish it. Can ask for various level of spicy. Typical price for a Chinese restaurant and have discounted lunch menu Also had basil chicken for lunch, lots of meat but not enough basil. More sweet pepper than basil

The fried rice's flavor was pretty muted..I prefer a little saltiness in my fried rice and it honestly had barely any salt? It tasted like plain rice with a little soy sauce and maybe oil flavor? Just not very aromantic in general.. I disliked the Mandarin Crispy Chicken the most as I had an issue with the breading. It was very thick and each bite felt more breading than chicken..The flavor of the sauce was good but with how thick the breading was, the inside of the chicken had no flavor at all once I bit in.. Perhaps we ordered the wrong items, but I don't think I'll be back to try any others at least for now. It was a Friday night so it was busy but I'll say service was good and we had a minimal wait time!

My husband's work took him to Shanghai a number of times, and he tells me our visits to Pure Spice remind him of some of his favorite restaurants he'd frequent there. Here's a fun tip! When your favorite Dim Sum places in Portland aren't serving, remember Pure Spice has a permanent Dim Sum menu they serve during all open hours. You'll find a lot of your favorites there. Visitors will find a daily specials board with listings written in Mandarin! This restaurant definitely has the "if you're in the know, you're in the know" kind of vibe. Just ask the servers to translate if you have any questions. And don't be sheepish about asking questions, or flagging someone down if you need anything. This place can get busy with a lot of regulars who may not respect first come, first served conventions. I don't know, I think it just adds to the local flavor - and makes me want to become a regular as well. Give Pure Spice a shot and let me know what you think!
