came here for the restaurant week 2 for 1 special. Dinner for two people for $34.95. Choose two appetizers two main course and two dessert. We got the blood orange salad which was a few pieces of orange over some microgreens and a very nice fresh-tasting dressing. We also got totopos. Not a fan. They are soggy tortilla chips in a spicy tomato sauce and it just didn't work for me. It was kind of messy to eat and tasted like totillas soaked and spicy spaghetti sauce. we order the spicy beet chorizo platter which is vegan, and the shrimp Diablo taco platter. Each platter came with two tacos and a bowl of rice and a bowl of black beans. We shared the tacos so we each had one of each. The shrimp was cooked very nicely. The beach chorizo was more just like fried potatoes in a tortilla but very tasty. The tortillas are excellent they're made fresh in-house daily and their texture is fantastic. For dessert we had a tres leches and a chocolate mousse. The chocolate moose was the best thing of the night. It was topped with roasted figs. 2 tacos, 20 min..timed, so i know. I watched the kitchen finish in under 10. I saw others ordered and served first. I asked if the waiting bag of a to go food was mine and was told that the kitchen is busy, but they will check. After the 2rd request, they finally got the bag i saw sitting there getting cold foe 10 min. SURPRISE it was cold. I asked the GM and he said the kitchen was backed up with large orders. (Place was half empty). I explained that the food wasn't delayed because the kitchen didnt finish it, I told him i watched it sit and get cold. This place has a service and attitude problem. I had noone who was rude or unpleasant to me, but there is tension and backtalking among the staff In front of the guests. With taco joints popping up here and there, plus having moved to Providence from Los Angeles some 20+ years ago, I can't say I had high hopes for this restaurant. Man alive, these tacos surpassed my expectations for killer authentic Mexican food in the City of Angels - right here on 370 Richmond Street. Unbelievable. I'd venture to say these tacos are even better than what I used to eat back home. Seriously. And L.A. is known for its fantastic Mexican cuisine. I ordered the late night $2 tacos in three flavors: short rib, wild mushroom and chipotle chicken tinga. Each one more delicious than the other. I've got a huge appetite and can eat a good amount of food, although three of these bad boys made me feel pretty good and a fourth was overkill. Back home, it would take two tacos with double tortillas to make up one of these ... and I could easily down a half dozen or so to feel full. These tacos were very generously filled with shredded short rib meat, shredded chicken thigh meat or large slices of wild mushroom. They were juicy and tender. And no fat whatsoever. I will most definitely eat here on a regular basis. For killer delicious tacos - eat here. For the amazing low price of $2 tacos - eat here late night. read more

I come here with my friends for drinks and tacos and they always satisfy. I really like the fruity margaritas, I don't find them too sweet while still being full of flavor. The guac is always worth it, but the salsa is bomb as well so don't worry if you haven't hopped on that avocado train yet! How is it that my experience wasn't as awesome as everyone else's?!! Well even with COVID scaring us away from enjoying the fine foods of the world I still managed to make a stop in at Xaco to grab a summer evening meal. There really was no wait when we arrived we were sat promptly and our drink order taken immediately. I had the Watermelon margarita because when I have tacos clearly the best way to wash them down is with a margarita (duh). My drink was terrible I couldn't even finish it I might as well just drink a bottle of tequila by itself (waaah) to some this isn't a bad thing, but to me I prefer not becoming flammable while I dine. I had the steak tacos that were completely dry and guess what?! No drink to wash them down with because it was like drinking rubbing alcohol. This was my first time here too so that was really disappointing. Sigh maybe I just caught them on an off day or maybe .... Oh well it's just my 1 opinion and experience. I really like this place, enough that I went twice in 1 week. Close enough to Rhode Island Hospital, but just a little too far to be walking distance. Very relaxed vibe with quick service. Unlike a lot of Mexican places there are no chips included- so that's an extra charge. There's quite a variety of options. My favorite taco was avocado surrounded by tortilla. The lamb one is very interesting. You can't go wrong with any of the fish. One thing I highly recommend is the Mexican street corn. My friend and I tried one of each of almost every taco and I can honestly say they are the best tacos I've ever had from California to Rhode Island. Seriously? Who would think Rhode Island would have the best tacos? Each one is completely different and unique and flavorful. The lobster taco was particularly incredible and had the sweetest most delicious lobster I've ever had outside of Newport. The street corn was on par with the street corn you get in Mexico. Hmmm where do I start? This place is not a taquiera. The decor was a little Mexican but with a hipster twist. The food menu was very limited but the drink menu made up for it. I asked for lengua the bartender had no idea so I ordered the barbacoa platter. The meat was very tender but it had no flavor and it was swimming in grease as if it were a soup. I received two tablespoons worth of rice. It looked like Lipton Knorr rice sides lacking the flavor as were the black beans, nothing worth mentioning. The prices are a little on the high side for what you're getting; subpar taco truck food with sit down prices. I should've just went to tallulah's down the street. My experience wasn't a 5-star one, but that's not to say it couldn't eventually be. We came down here for a team lunch. The space is large, bright with a feel of rustic meeting modern. The concept is awesome with an interesting menu. We were seated on a chariot like table setting which definitely intrigued us. The waiter was very knowledgeable. We were very interested in giving the chapulines a try. The waiter was very patient and detailed in running us down through what it was gonna taste like. The chapulines are definitely a one-time experience for me although i wouldn't have noticed it if they were to be added on to Tacos due to it's mild flavor. I ordered their smoked lamb tacos and the chipotle chicken. For the price i would expect a bit more flavor and the tacos to be loaded up. However, i found them bland. I am glad they do 2$ tacos after dark to attract the after-hours crowd. I would definitely go back just for the experience next time around not with a whole lot of expectation. read more

I'm truly someone who prefers authentic Mexican, as it's my favorite food, but let me tell you.... this place really has me craving modern Mexican. The decor is sooo cool. Indoor and outdoor seating with a well decorated setting. The first night I came, we were headed to get burgers and I drove by here and it caught my eye. The service was exceptional. The people are just so chill and friendly. The food came out fast and my oh my was it AMAZING. Vegan friendly for sure. The jackfruit tacos were sensational. They were way different than your traditional taco but in such a good way. And the crispy avo taco, lordddddd!! The tortillas are homemade and are soft and fluffy corn tortillas. My only downside is the cost. It's pricey. Worth it every once in a while, but if you're used to the authentic Mexican prices, this place is $$$$. Also... so many chips and so little guac! read more

XACO TACO NACHO MACHO. I really liked what this place had to offer. It was casual and laid back. They offer indoor and outdoor seating, which is a nice change of pace to eat outside when it gets nicer out in Providence. The location is sort of a bummer being outside of the city, but it's definitely worth it to check it out! They also have a bar with seating all the way around with several TVs showing whatever NBA,NFL, MLB game is on at the time. So you can definitely come here for some drinks and to watch the game. The inside has a huge VW bus right in the middle of the eating area, which I'm pretty sure they use to cook some of the meals which was pretty cool. They also were showing a very old horror movie projected on to one of the walls which was kinda sweet. Be aware this place mostly just serves tacos and appetizers like nachos or empanadas. The main courses are just tacos. Don't come here expecting a full blown Mexican menu with burritos, tostadas, quesadillas, etc. because you may be disappointed. They are strictly tacos! I didn't mind this at all I knew this coming in, but some other people may get annoyed by this. I had the Baja Fish Tacos and the chicken tacos and both were very good. A lot of flavors going on and I enjoyed them fully. They have a so-so beer selection, if you're looking for more crafty beers this may not be the place to get beers at then. I do have to say both times I ate here the waiting staff seemed to sometimes forget we were there or not check in very often. So we actually had to ask another waitress who came by for more drinks/food, which is a bummer, but not the worst thing that could happen at a restaurant. I would definitely try this place at least once. Because Tacos are the greatest food ever. They can be made using anything. Anything tastes good in a taco! read more

Came in tonight (Saturday 27th) with few friends, their son and daughter tonight. We had a Kevin as our server, I'm not exaggerating when I say he was the best server any of us had ever had! We all agreed hands down! We were a little overwhelmed by the menu, being we had never been here before, and after asking if we had been to Xaco before he broke the entire menu down for us. None of us had ever had a server walk us through a menu like this haha You can tell he really loves chatting with guests! He was so funny and made us feel like we were VIPs from start to finish. Not to mention he was so good with the kids! He joked around with them as well and made them feel like they were celebrities, telling them how great their drawings were. Stuff like that really really makes a difference when you have kids at the table. I have never left a Yelp review before but honestly it felt like it would be unfair if I didn't give some sort of acknowledgment of how much we really enjoyed Kevin. We basically just let him take the wheel and took all his recommendations and everything was great! Tacos a+ drinks a+. All in all it was a fantastic night! We went to Xaco taco today as our first dining experience after a 3 month quarantine. It was just what we needed! We stopped in here on a whim, as we had reservations downtown with some time to kill. We didn't have a reservation but they were able to accommodate us inside their open air bar area. The staff was extremely friendly and they were taking all necessary steps to make us feel safe. The menus were digital from your phone, a nice touch if you ask me. We split an order of empanadas, which were fantastic. The outside was crispy but not greasy, the filling had the perfect amount of spice, was hot, and overall flavor was great. They were served with a crema, which had an incredibly fresh taste and really paired well with the heat of the beef. After 2 visits, we feel comfortable giving Xaco our HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION - their tacos are insanely good and they are amazingly fast out of the kitchen. Casual Tex Mex spot. I suggest sitting outside, at the bar or on the opposite side of the windows due to high chairs being uncomfortable. The chips were very good; You can tell they're fresh. The ceviche was AMAZING! We were a little put off by the Olives but we were really glad we ordered it. 10/10. The Mexican street corn was equally as good. 10/10. Marvelous! Social media is deceiving. I thought this was more of a fast service type of place where you order first then sit down. Nope completely wrong. We walked through the doors and it was a full fledged restaurant with unique decor and a full bar. Simple but awesome menu- gourmet spin on real Mexican tacos. The tacos were out of this world good. Seriously, all 3 we ordered were amazing. I didn't like the scallop ceviche so much- more of a traditional ceviche fan but had a nice vinegary punch. Best tacos around! I ordered the fish tacos and the next tome the carnitas tacos and OMG they are so good! The fish tacos were still crunchy even after picking them up and going home to eat but the flavor on the carnitas tacos can not be matched! SO YUM! Stopped by here in June while in Providence, great atmosphere with outdoor seating and beautiful decor. I highly recommend this place just on the interior alone. But the food is delicious as well, we shared elote, crispy avocado taco, fish taco, and tuna taco. I thought the elote was fantastic, the lime and paprika really made the creamy corn have a light and tangy taste. Definitely worth trying. My boyfriend really enjoyed his fish and tuna taco as well, and I thought the crispy avocado taco was creamy and a great mixture of textures. I imagine this place has a wonderful bar scene too. Rick's Roadhouse had become something of a Rhode Island tradition. "Oh let's head over to Rick's for a drink." With their outside dining and cheap foods, it was a great place to hang out. But recently, their parent company which includes other restaurants like XO Cafe and Harry's Burgers had a new fresh idea. Rather than do BBQ, they switched to the all too popular tacos! The Chow Fun Food Group (again the parent company) had been planning for this transformation for a while. The chef was hired from San Francisco to help create what would now become Xaco's Tacos. During their metamorphosis, they redesigned the bar on the inside as well as the seating. There is a lot of open space and the restaurant remains an excellent place for large groups. We arrived around 4pm and it was time for $2 tacos! Mushroom, pork, chicken, beef. All excellent because I tried them all. In a hot minute I downed 8 which was perfect for me. Their white corn tortillas are beautifully made and I could definitely envision it as part of a gourmet restaurant menu. We had a nice scallop ceviche as well but I might have preferred some shrimp tossed in there and instead of tortilla chips had that replaced with toast. They also had an awesome menu for Mezcal which is not always available. The Del Miguey Vida was excellent with a nice smokey flavor that you don't get to find in Tequila. All in all a solid place. A great place to hang out and I suspect will become more popular than Rick's given that it's now tacos and they maintain an awesome drink menu. read more

Excellent authentic Mexican tacos (or close enough to being completely authentic). I would go to the happy hours since certain tacos become 2 dollars from 3-5pm or at night 11pm-2am (I believe correct me if I'm wrong). It's great tacos and a nice area just to relax and enjoy the moment. The scenery is very classic and different. Difference here is good too!!! - side note, some tacos come to four or 3:50 per taco... that's pretty expensive. Otherwise, I wouldn't probably come here if it wasn't for the happy hours.
