I am not sure if this restaurant is now under new ownership. The guy who worked there was good and efficient. I like that he speaks fluent Cantonese. The noodle bowls were tasty. We've been here many times to pick roast pork, char siu and jung. The jung is authentic made with beans. It's difficult to find jung in Portland. Recently we've taken time to sit and enjoy their speciality noodle dishes. Today we had sea food crispy noodles. Service is friendly and helpful if we have questions. The wonton soup had the broth in one package and wontons in another. There were a good amount of tasty wontons and the broth had a mild flavor - very good. The roasted duck was moist and flavorful, the rice was cooked perfectly. The beef chow fun didn't have a huge amount of beef but what was there was tender and the noodles were spot on. I got the chicken with noodle dish. Note to staff, not every piece of the chicken is edible. My chicken bone with noodle dish had a great flavor but all the bone fragments made it too difficult to eat. Yang Kee is one of those Chinese Restaurants from a bygone era. No frills, practically no decor, and just a family looking to run their business. When Vietnamese ( literally from Vietnam) like to eat Chinese food, this is the kind of food they typically think of. And I am no different! Service is fast and efficient. And for an authentic Asian restaurant, they're friendlier than most. But don't compare their service levels to that of an American dining experience, it's a totally different culture. The prices are fair, and most of the items give you a generous amount of food. My favorite is their Scrambled Egg dishes. Their eggs are full of flavor, crisp on the outside, and silky on the inside. How it melts and binds the flavor of the seasonings and meat with the rice is something you have to experience! We are so glad we came here because the food is delicious and comforting The interior is a no frills place but I knew it was authentic the minute I walked in because of the familiar smells. We ordered the beef chow fun and a rice plate with roast pork + bbq pork. The beef chow fun is $17, plenty to share. I enjoyed that the noodles were not too thick and it was cooked perfectly. It had a very nice "wok hei" taste. My only comment is I wish there was more beef, but regardless it was good and I would definitely get it again! The roast pork plate is $15, and to add extra meat it's $6. I wish the dish came with sauce, but otherwise the pork was flavorful. We ended up leaving with leftovers and still ordered a pound of crispy roast pork to take back home! The roast pork was $14.50 a pound, which I think is pretty standard these days. I cannot believe how delicious the BBQ pork chow mein and won tons are!!!! This is hands down THE BEST authentic Chinese food I've EVER had!! That being said, I did order the more traditional route on a menu that had very authentic Chinese food. Now this restaurant isn't the typical "first thing on the menu is orange/sweet and sour chicken" style. So please keep that in mind as I know trying new foods can be overwhelming for some folks. The ambiance is also very basic, but I'm not paying for ambiance, I love delicious food!!!! The server checked in on us and all interactions were short and sweet! Those wontons were FIRE!!!!!!! The hubby and I are returning today because he tried my leftovers (there wasn't much) and was very impressed!!!! Update! I read some the very good reviews of this restaurant and finally got to try it today. Overall it's quite a disappointment. People said their beef chow fun is better than in Hong Kong or China...what a joke. I would say it's ok. I am from Hong Kong and I know what is good beef chow fun. Nothing close to Hong Kong beef chow fun. We also order pork dumplings wonton noodle. The pork dumpling is not good and doesn't taste the same as the one I used to eat. The noodles are from package you bought from the grocery stores and the soup wasn't close to the real wonton soup. First visit here :) hence just our 4 stars. We would love to return and try out their other menu items. Parking is a bit tight @ this location. If you find one, take it. Don't expect to find one closer to the restaurant. When you get seated, they serve you hot tea, or water if that's what you would like instead. They offer hot noodle soups, stir fried noodles, rice plates, and family style dining. Roast duck: this is the main reason why we visited today. We used to go to YaYa, but they closed down. And then we would have to travel far to 99 ranch at times whenever we wanted duck. But then we came across this place :) they reheat the duck since it's hanging on their display case. Which doesn't bother us. Flavorful and the skin is nice and crunchy. They also serve duck fat on the side for more flavor. Yum. BBQ pork: juicy and not dry at all! Yummy and packed with flavor. The soup tasted very light, and I didn't mind that, just wish there was a bit more flavor and umami to it. The wontons were fine, but I was not a big fan of the thin egg noodles. Price, quality, quantity: 6.0/10 These 2 dishes came out to around $30. If the flavor profile was there and the freshness as well, I would've given more credit to where it's due, but unfortunately it just didn't deliver, especially the meats I got. I'm originally from NYC and often patronized Cantonese noodle / BBQ joints that serve noodle soups with either duck, BBQ pork, or roast pork. This place is the only restaurant I've found in Portland that comes closest to the quality I'm used to. The broth is always good and the wontons have thin wraps and tastier with hot sauce and my favorite condiment which is a ginger, scallion in oil spread that's delicious with everything. Make sure you try a side of this. If you're a lover of ginger as I am, you will love this addition to your meal. Also I recommend their Chinese broccoli with hoisin sauce and the Singapore Mai Fun noodles. These are curried noodles, inspired by Singapore cuisine. You can order this dish without curry if you prefer. I usually get a half a duck, BBQ pork with wonton noodle soup and the Singapore noodles. The meats are interchangeable option for the noodle soups. Other dishes are available but this is more traditional and Chinese fare which I prefer Try it out. read more

I actually really enjoy Yang Kee! It's in a little plaza off of 82nd and is pretty easily missed if you don't look carefully enough. It has the classic Chinese roasted duck and pork front - the roast duck and pork hang from racks near a window so that customers can see them on display. I enjoy the simplicity of the Noodle dishes and the meat. Sometimes the meat can be a little slim (more bone than meat), but usually there are some good thick chunks amidst the bony ones. They also sell noodle soups - including the classic wonton soup. The wontons are freshly made and pretty well packed, and they also have bigger chunks of bok choy to top the bowl. Stewed beef was last: probably was my favorite out of the three dishes - however, portion was small. After one round of picking per person (just the three of us) and I felt like it was nearly empty. Given it was all meat... but did not feel like there was much for $12. Overall, we all thought the food were pretty tasty, we liked it. We did thought the dishes were a bit oily and portion sizes could improve. Might not order the same stuff again, but would like to try their roast pork and BBQ pork next.
