    Beef Chow Fun

We ordered the Spring Rolls, Beef Chow Fun, BBQ Pork Fried Rice and Chicken Broccoli through delivery so I can't speak to the friendliness or cleanliness of the restaurant. The food was ready on time and delivered. The spring rolls were good and but didn't stand out. The Chicken and broccoli was really good - tender chicken, crisp broccoli with a mild sauce. The beef chow fun was good. The BBQ pork fried rice was great! So much BBQ pork in the rice which was very flavorful. The portions are pretty big so get ready for leftovers. We'll definitely come again

We come here for family dinner and they have the best Chinese food in town! The service is always great and it's never a long wait. The inside tables can accommodate large parties!

Happy Dragon provided us with a nice, old-school dining experience that took me back to my childhood. A friend had discovered this place on a lunch hour exploration, and suggested it for a family style dinner destination. Each of the four of us chose an entree, (Mandarin Beef, Sautéed Green Beans, Kung Pao Chicken, and a black fungus, snow pea and yam veggie plate) and we piled on the unsurprising extras of an appetizer combo, a huge shared bowl of hot and sour soup, and rice. Service was super-quick - my friend had arrived first, and put in the order for the appetizer combo before we arrived. By the time we were putting in the order for everything else, the appetizers were arriving, and everything else began showing up before we finished the appetizers.

Fried rice: Something about the texture of the rice I liked. It was kinda chewy and satisfying. It could have had more of a crispy, fried texture though. And it was underseasoned. I liked the way the egg was cooked though. It was light, thin, and not overcooked, if that makes sense. General tsos chicken: The chicken was pretty good. Not stringy, not dry. It wasn't too crispy though. And the sauce was disappointing: pretty sweet; too salty in a weird way; not much else. Price: A little on the expensive side. $19 for the general tsos, $16 for the fried rice. $20 for the honey walnut shrimp (for my girlfriend). Portions were normal, not the type of situation where it's expensive but portions are large enough where you have another meal of leftovers.

Happy Dragon offers authentic Chinese cuisine that's on par with the best in Portland. We had a good meal here with salt fish fried rice (off menu) and the beef with Chinese broccoli (gai lan). Both were pretty good.

There's potential here but needs a lot of work. Firstly no one will go if the outside looks like it does. Clean up the weeds. Wash the walls and repaint. Fix the windows. It looks like it's vacated outside. Food was great on some dishes and poor with others. Beef Chow Fun 5/5 Yang Chow Rice 5/5 Egg Flower soup 5/5 Potstickers 1/5 Avoid Walnut Shrimp: 0/5. Shocked that they tossed what felt like boiled shrimp in heavy mayo. It's supposed to be fried shrimp and a light sauce. Avoid

The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting, great for a relaxed night out. The fried rice's flavor was pretty muted..I prefer a little saltiness in my fried rice and it honestly had barely any salt? It tasted like plain rice with a little soy sauce and maybe oil flavor? Just not very aromantic in general.. I disliked the Mandarin Crispy Chicken the most as I had an issue with the breading. It was very thick and each bite felt more breading than chicken..The flavor of the sauce was good but with how thick the breading was, the inside of the chicken had no flavor at all once I bit in.. Perhaps we ordered the wrong items, but I don't think I'll be back to try any others at least for now. It was a Friday night so it was busy but I'll say service was good and we had a minimal wait time!

We rolled…read morethrough Portland and stopped for a few plates, and everything punched way above a typical highway stop. The smashed cucumber salad was super refreshing -- lots of garlic, crunchy, and exactly what you want after hours in the car. The green onion pancakes came out crispy and satisfying, but my favorite was the wood ear mushroom. They did something to it that made it insanely umami and savory, like a dish you keep thinking about later. The fried rice was solid and full of flavor, and you could tell the kitchen cared. The dining room was pretty empty when we went, so maybe it's newer or underrated, which feels unfair because the food deserves more people. Parking around there is kind of a hassle and the neighborhood isn't the prettiest, but this is a definite stop for me next time I'm in Portland.

Shoutout to everyone still working on Thanksgiving Day! Because of hardworking folks like you,…read morepeople who don't celebrate holidays like me can still eat out. I'm super grateful. Before coming, I did my homework and checked reviews on Chinese review website. The opinions were kinda extreme, some said it was terrible, others said it was amazing. Since it was only a 1 minute walk from my hotel and actually open on Thanksgiving, I went for it. I ordered jalapeño beef 小炒牛肉, veggie chow mein 蔬菜炒面, and string beans 干煸四季豆. The beef came out first, and the first bite surprised me. It didn't taste like the jalapeño beef from other Sichuan restaurants. It tasted exactly like Cantonese beef with gailan, but with green bell peppers instead. Instead of tingly spicy, it had a subtle sweetness. If you're Cantonese, you probably know exactly what I mean. The veggie chow mein was good and reminded me of late night street noodles in Guangzhou, and it also had a slightly sweet touch. The string beans were good too, and didn't have any sweetness. There was some savory minced pork in it. If you're not a strict vegetarian and don't mind a little meat in the dish as long as you only eat the veggie part, go for this one, it was flavorful. While having dinner, I overheard Cantonese in the kitchen between the chef and staff, and ahhh, that explains why I tasted the Cantonese flavor in my dishes! It also explains the two types of extreme reviews. So let me be honest, if you come here expecting the Sichuan/Hu'nan version of stir-fried beef with a strong spicy profile, you might be disappointed. But for me, it was honestly a lucky hit. I did see some Sichuan spicy dishes on the menu, but I didn't order them, so I can't say if they're authentic. But based on what I ordered tonight, I was happy with everything.

The place was full of hungry locals and tourists but was uncustomarily quiet and calm. So we ordered 3 entrees and side of Dry-fried String beans. The Green Beans were cooked perfectly and the serving size was generous! One of our new favorites is the Mongolian Chicken. Is not a spicy Chinese food dish but the moist chicken and seasonings produced a yummy & comfort food level dish! As usual, the lightly battered & deveined Butterfly prepared Salt & Pepper Shrimp was mouthwatering, with every bite. As the last entree to be served. The ten Chicken & Vegetable Dumplings were fresh and flavorful. Needless to say, with only 2 patrons eating lunch with 3 heaping entrees plus Dry-fried String beans and white rice - we took home 2 more meals worth of Chinese food leftovers. Typically at most Chinese restaurants, especially fried dishes, you'll see a pool of oil at the bottom of the dish. I'd steer clear from their soup dishes, most of them lack flavor. I highly recommend their Chopped Pepper Fish and their Jade Tofu items though. Very flavorful and not very heavy!
