Very no frills and in addition to the familiar classics they have some weird stuff I haven't heard of before in their house specials, which is what I was feeling today. I got something along the lines of "lamb neck & pickled cabbage vermicelli soup" to which the server asked "are you sure?" which only further reaffirmed my choice. It was quite good and not as weird or sour tasting as I was thinking but was a new dish that I enjoyed. It was also a huge portion for only about $17 and I took home enough leftovers for another full meal. Looking forward to come back to try more of their menu. read more

When we entered, one server told us to pick wherever we wanted. There were only a few booths to choose from in the small space. We ended up What may have been popular a few years ago may have lost its luster. The leek and pork dumplings were savory and juicy but bland. The wrappers were also too thick. The beef stir-fry noodles were the best entree we had. They tasted so fresh with their unami flavor. The noodles were chewy and springy. There was a sufficient amount of meat and a few pieces of cabbage and carrots. The tea we ordered arrived near the end of our lunch. And the rice never came. Overall, the food was average. Wow! The noodles at this place were insane. Some of the best I've had, period. They were so flavorful and not greasy. The portion was huge, plenty for two people. They have video lottery in the bar area, which was fun while waiting for our food. The downside was the parking. If you're getting take out, keep in mind how terrible the parking is in this area. We had to walk a decent distance to get there. Additionally, the vegetarian stir fry noodle option only came with vegetables. We had to pay an extra $5 to add tofu, bringing our total for the one dish to $21 on DoorDash, while all of the meat dishes were the standard $16. My mom mentioned in passing that she saw this place featured on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-in's and Dives, and that she thought it would be fun to try it. This was shortly after I fractured my ankle. Also right around the time of our birthdays on the first of June. Mom was legit surprised and delighted when she saw our destination. So I had the bright idea to go there for her birthday and late Mother's Day. It was very painful for me to travel, but boy, was that authentic Chinese food worth the pain. I had shrimp and broccoli with a magical yum-yum sauce and it was formidable. The challenge to not go home with a leftovers box under protest from my belly was daunting. But give in I did. "Braised Pork Belly". If you make it to Chin's, you gotta try their braised pork belly! I am not a big meat eater, even less of pork, but I have daydreams about their pork belly. At times I drive there from work just to have that with some noodles. Both together, make for at least two meals, so they are worth the $. Parking is a pain. Service is "order and pay", and that's about it. If you need something, you will be faster chasing down the waiter. The place is somewhat small and you will likely leave smelling like Chinese food - so, I would not go there for a date, for example. That said, their food is super good. Legitimate Chinese?? Been here a few times just for the dumplings and noodles which we loved. They really are the stand out. I would not order the noodle soups again only because they are a bit greasy and messy, one look and you will know not to wear good clothes are just be really careful. If you want Chinese food, this is a solid option! It's been around for 70 years, but new owners took over in 2017. Guy Fieri came here, if you care. It's pretty classic decor inside, nothing fancy. It has one of the best neon signs to adorn any business in Portland! Iconic. They are famous for dumplings, so you know we had to try some! They sell them frozen to go. For our first visit, we got the Dumpling Combo #2, General Tso's Chicken, Green Beans, and the La Pi Salad, two bowls of rice. This is way too much food for two, but we wanted leftovers. Food comes out as it's ready. The dumplings were moist, packed full, and delightful! Their garlic green beans were some of the best I've ever eaten. Honestly, that was probably the best General Tso's chicken I've had in a long time. The la pi was interesting - great flavor - but slimy glass noodles are not for everyone. I got some assistance when I first walked in, a client informed me to use the touch screen to log in and request a table. The place was thumping but I was seated quickly because I was alone and a 2 seat table was open. The menu is full but I cluttered, I watched huge portions on highly stacked plates come out of to the tables and everything looked great. My dish took a little time to arrive but boy was it amazing. Don't waste your money here for a holiday dinner! We went here for Christmas Eve 2025 dinner. I had searched for the best Chinese food restaurants in Portland, and Chin's was in the top 10 by most recent Google searches. So disappointing! Food was obviously premade and not fresh. Nothing tasted good of the 5 selections we ordered. Everything tasted bland, flavorless and the same, and came to us barely warm. So dissatisfied we asked to speak to the manager. They only gave us 20% off our total. Service was fair but the screaming and yelling by staff for to go orders, was so annoying! read more

Chin's Kitchen in Hollywood has been around for over 70 years. They still have their amazing old neon sign out front. They serve northeastern Chinese food, and are particularly known for their dumplings. So I'm glad they participated in the city wide promo known as dumpling week, which is when I stopped by most recently. Their interior is fairly unassuming - pleasant and clean. They were not busy when I went in at lunchtime, but it looks like they do a lot of takeout orders. Staff was spread thin but they did go out of their way to help me with a question which I really appreciate. I got dumplings and a tofu/vegetable dish. Both were just great. I would be happy to go back and get more, the flavors met my cravings. When you dine there, you'll see they are very proud to have been featured on the "From Authentic to Innovative" episode of Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Ordered the General Tso's... was essentially sweet and sour chicken, not spicy whatsoever and came with 4 very small florets of broccoli about 2 bites worth. Comes with no rice, the chicken is HEAVILY breaded. This is not the place for General Tso's cannot speak on the rest of the menu. read more

Like most of the yelp's reviews seen Guy Fieri's drive-in show on food network and thought fun date nite with my wife. We arrived on Saturday night about 630pm and got a seat freshly turned for the next guest after a short wait. The place as packed with tons of to go orders like a conveyor belt. Think this hinders the table service at the front of the house. Order was fresh and hot we planned to try it all, dumplings their claim to fame and house made pulled noodle. Default is general Tao for us. The dumplings are the best I had I will admit but the rest, well not so great. The general Tao lacked vegetables but a few decorative pieces of broccoli and sauce was little next to none. Chicken was crunchy and dry. The chef's special noodles was so bland I realized the sauce was literally oil! Please reference the puddle of cooking oil in the photo. Just went here and got the egg rolls and vegetarian noodles with chili oil. Easily top ten for Chinese meals I've ever had (including plenty of fancy restaurants). Quite possibly the best. Egg rolls were perfect; not oily at all but crisp. Noodles were excellent. Texture and flavor were both there. I'm embarrassed for misjudging this place for as long as I have based the signage. Between the 10 of us, we ordered a LOT of food and pretty much nothing the same, so we could share and try everyone else's. Also a LOT because the portions are very good size. You get your monies worth! I chose the General Tso's and loved every bite, that my friends didn't swipe. My BFF got the Kung Pao chicken. Also very good, but I like my food spicy-spicy, so my dish was better for me. The group ordered a few platters of dumplings. A few got noodle dishes. Needless to say, we ate like little piggy's and didn't need very many to-go boxes. Our server (a young lady working the evening of Dec 30th) was great! Food finally arrived at 6:45 :/ Portion sizes are plentiful. I like the thickness and the chew of the noodles, as well as the dumplings. The broth in the beef soup was a bit bland and I was disappointed that no rice was included with the General Tso's. Great Chinese food in a charming historic spot in the Hollywood district. The restaurant opened in 1949 has changed hands several times in the years since, but it still offers fabulous food at a reasonable price. We stopped in for dinner the other night and got seated immediately. The waitress was friendly and efficient and the decor is a blast. The walls are covered with both the recent and distant history of the restaurant, including their stint on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives! We got the Stir Fried Chicken and Noodles, which were amazing, the Stir-Fried Garlic Green Beans, which are an amazingly generous portion, and the Leek and Pork Dumplings, which were big without being unwieldy and tasted great. I had wanted to actually have a sit down here because I am rarely over here when they are open and I have time to grab food. They are never not busy when open. I had some time before a movie over at the Hollywood Theater so a friend and I decided to grab some takeout to eat after the movie. Well, we did bring it in but decided to wait and enjoy it at my place with another movie. I am so glad since we would have been in the dark and there was already a bit of leakage though we both had packed smart and double bagged. I appreciated the nice person at the counter taking our orders also. I bring my own cup with ice to the theater since I REALLY like my drinks extra cold plus I do not enjoy drinking then from a bottle & want a straw. But he was so kind to fill me up with ice. I also appreciate that their to go containers are pretty great. Their house made noodles are some of the best I have had - eve reheated and I went for the orange chicken which was delicious and I really appreciated that they do have vegetables in it as well but the sauce is that nice dark tone without being overly sweet. I think the popular thing to order that we kept seeing one after another to a lot of the tables while we were waiting was their green beans and they looed and smelled amazing. I also definitely plan to go back for the dumplings. When I do, I will definitely make reservations. Heard about this place last week and wanted to try it out. The place itself is small, but service was horrible and slow. Lots of tables left with dirty dishes on them. There were only 2 customers when we arrived and it took awhile for someone to greet us. Once we sat down, we waited awhile for water and for them to take our order. The food was very blah and not a lot of flavor. We order chicken breast with string beans and I can honestly say it tastes much better at Panda Express. The dumplings weren't that great either. Lacking flavor. But the chili oil noodles were the only decent thing we ordered. I really wanted to like this place but we were both so disappointed and underwhelmed. While it seems that most of the customers here come for the traditional American Chinese cuisine, this is the only spot in the Portland area that serves Northeastern Chinese food. My family and I came and ordered form their Northeastern Chinese menu. We got the di san xian (eggplant, peppers, potatos), braised pork belly, Chinese sauerkraut and pork served with glass noodles and the stewed beef and potatoes. All items were pretty good especially the first two items I mentioned. I loved the flavor in the pork belly and the eggplants. I would skip on the stewed beef and potatoes next time as it was a bit salty. The owner also served my family zongzi, as it was recently the summer solstice. It's been long overdue since I came back here. This time, I brought some friends with me so I could order more variety of items. The dumplings here are a must get as they are made fresh and full of flavor. We ordered some of the items from the authentic section of the menu - which included the Di San Xian - Trio of Earth Delicacies (deep fried veggies), braised pork belly (reminds me of thit kho), and stewed pork ribs & potato noodles in casserole. We also ordered some green beans, zha jiang mian, chef special stir-fried noodles, beef noodle soup, and this special crispy sweet n sour pork (not on menu). The special sweet n sour pork dish was a hit! The texture and flavor of it went very well together (it's a style that I have not seen before). I also enjoyed the pork rib casserole and stir-fried noodles. Actually, everything we ate was good and worth trying. Our server was very quick and also attentive to our table (and only one working the front). As noted elsewhere the food came out as ready which we expected. The server was very busy and pleasant despite what quickly became a full house. The food was very good, highlights were the chicken and the dumplings. The dumplings were especially delicious and satisfying. The tea was hot and steeped when served. The chicken was a bit bland but nicely flavored. All the portions were generous. We all thought the value was good along with the food.
