Enokii mushrooms were great. A little on the salty side. Grilled chives paired well with all of the other skewers. Nice and charred. Tendon was chewy. I wouldn't get this again. You can try stuff like chicken hearts, gizzards, and other offal for cheap. If you're not adventurous, they have more common meats too. The lamb was our favorite. Chicken hearts were the least adventurous 'weird' skewer and the most like regular meat skewers. Squid was really sweet but a little too rubbery for me. I expected it to be like the skewers I've eaten in Taiwan but the taste was more of a Chinese style with the heavy peppers and cumin. We had a variety of items lamb, beef, shrimp, lamb fat, enoki, fried bread, chicken heart, and the combination noodles. The noodles were standard and the skewers unfortunately tasted all about the same. My favorites were the noki, lamb fat, and the shrimp. If you like cumin and red pepper then this place is for you. I personally prefer a more salty-sweet version like yakitori. The flavors are very good , just a tad spicy for the kids but very tasty . The Bud light bottle is only 99 cents each. The only thing that would be better is if the menu have more English description of what each dishes are. The staff are very friendly but they don't speak much English. The atmosphere is very casual. Ranging from 11am to noon to another bizarre hour on the excuse "our fire isn't ready yet." BUT, if you do find good fortune and get to eat here, you're in for a treat. My family is from the northeastern part of China, which is famous for their "BBQ on a stick." Various meats grilled over charcoal with special seasoning only known to northern Chinese people. This tradition of bbq is so popular, it is actually ubiquitous on the streets of large cities such as DaLian and Haerbin. This restaurant is authentic stuff. Of course, not comparable to the real stuff you eat on the streets of China but this is as good as it gets in the states. $1 a stick for lamb or beef. Get the lamb. They also have various mushrooms, veggies, livers, hearts, kidneys on a stick...all delicious. Better than any other restaurant. Their classic northern Chinese dishes are also great such as "Guo Bao Rou" (maybe sweet and sour fried beef?) Their soups are also packed with flavor. This is really really good food. I recently got introduced to Japanese Robata and I like the flavor. Well this is your much lower priced Chinese version of Robata. The day we came they ran out of beef skewers, and it seems like the group that we came with the last time they came they were out of beef skewers too. So I wonder if they just don't make a lot or it's really popular. So we replaced it with the lamb skewers which were good but not amazing. They have a lot of organ meats, which I do not enjoy but the rest of the table seemed to like them. The squid was good, the steamed bun with different, but my favorite was the mushrooms. We also ordered a few family style dishes and they were pretty standard chinese food. My favorite was the fish fillets. When I went a few years ago food was delicious, but it seems like they've gotten a new chef because the food is a bit inconsistent. They have completely renovated this place and it looks much more hip and modern. We ordered the grilled lamb, chicken, and tendon skewers. My favorite items from the grill are lamb skewers and the enoki mushrooms. The meats have the same distinct dry seasoning that I really like. The vinegar potato was not good this time around. Last time I ordered it had chili oil in it and had much more of a vinegar flavor. The spicy chicken and noodles was also not as good as before. They used a lot of dark meat with barely any meat, mostly bones. I'm not sure what happened to this place, but on this particular meal the food was a let down. Probably won't be back anytime soon. Although they ran out of beef skewers when we came for dinner (!!!) the rest of the food was still delicious and definitely worth the trip. The restaurant is located where Xiao Mei's Shaved Ice (the first and original shaved ice spot, RIP) used to be in the old Diho Shopping center (by JusGo supermarket). Waiters are extremely friendly and helpful in offering suggestions. We had a variety of skewers, sichuan shui zhu yu ("water boiled fish"), and the big plate chicken. Skewers were pretty good, just really wish they had beef! They all have a smoky char flavor from the grill. The beef tendon skewers were surprisingly really delicious and tender, the lamb skewers were also really well seasoned with lots of crushed cumin and chili. Big plate chicken is also pretty good, but just a warning it has a lot of bones in it, so if you are lazy like me, you may find this a little cumbersome to eat. It comes with a side of dry noodles, which you are supposed to dip into the soup after you have eaten all the chicken. Overall, great concept that is quite unique to Chinatown. After one of my friend taking me here I've been back on 2 other occasions. I love it. Their menu is so simple but yet it's satisfying. We usually order the lamb and shrimp skewers. Along with the map tofu and water spinach which come with rice. We also tried the chicken hearts once. The price is fairly cheap which is a plus. On all occasions the place have always been packed. We even came once and it was close. We were pretty sad because that's how much we loved it! If you're ever interested in Chinese skewers come try this place out. I took my friend there once and she talks about t from time to time. The dishes are fine. I have tried the special chicken and it was ok. The sauce is good but the chicken tastes kinda dry and flavorless. I also tried the fish with pickles and it was decent. The sweet and sour pork (not the regular ones you see in other restaurants. It's a northeastern dish) is also pretty authentic, except the batter is a little too thick (I actually like the batter so it doesn't matter to me). The spices on the skewers are spot on, perfectly salty with the flavors of the meats sealed in. The hubby's favorite was the beef tendon. It was soft and chewy like meat mochi! I preferred the chicken hearts and could have had 15 skewers to myself! The portions tend to run on the slightly smaller side which is not necessarily a bad thing if you like variety. I love this place's beef and lamb skewers. The spices are perfect and not overpowering. I think it's salt, chili flakes, and cumin seeds. You get chunks that are skim and some bits that are fatty. A great experience for the pallet. The Chinese broccoli is good as well, although you can really taste the gas from its preparation - which I'm assuming is propane. Solid Chinese BBQ restaurant in the strip center behind Don's sandwiches. I had been wanting to come here for several months and finally visited on a sunday evening. They specialize in bbq skewers, similar to the Japanese yakitori skewers at tiger den but with Chinese style spices. We ordered the back strap tendon, chicken hearts, 10 lamb skewers, and grilled squid. The lamb was easily my favorite with the fennel seeds, and crushed red pepper it was a little on the spicy side, but I loved the backstrap tendon also. Unique texture, not a ton of flavor, and slightly gamey. For a side dish, we had the garlic cucumbers, which go great with all the meat. They are diced then crushed and drizzled with a light oil and fresh garlic. I'll definitely be back to try other dishes! read more

If you've never had chinese skewers before, you're really missing out. Slightly spicy, warm cumin rubbed meat sticks of glory. I highly recommend the lamb - charred, warm, aromatic lamb meat thinly poked on the skewer is bursting with flavor - not gamey either. The tendon is good too. Don't think the oyster mushroom was that good (too thin and I was more expecting just a whole thick mushroom to be skewered and grilled). Enokis have a nice char to them. Spicy fish fillet in chili oil is a good amount of fish chunks and veggies in flaming hot sauce. It's one of the best renditions I've had anywhere of this dish and highly vouch for it. I can't really vouch for the big plate chicken though - ours came out undercooked, with hard potatoes, uncooked bell peppers and tasteless chicken. The noodles that come with it are good though - but I would much rather just try something else instead. Seating isn't that hard but great place to come for a snack if you're in the mood. read more

You can then just sample and see which are to your liking before ordering more. This review is for take out food only. It was 11:30pm at night. Just got off a flight and of course none of the major restaurants were open. Surprisingly even fast food was closed for the night at 10pm! Man... this is a city that really SLEEPS!! A solid 4 stars just because of the big plate chicken! Somehow it just has an amazing (and spicy) flavor, with tender pieces of chicken and potatoes. But the best thing about it was the noodles it's served with! They are wonderfully thick and chewy and once they're coated with that delicious chicken sauce...mm so good. The skewers were okay, all of them had the same spices and flavoring, which I wasn't super fond of. They're pretty cheap though ($1+), which makes them just like China! They do the alternating pieces of fat and meat thing too, just like China. That's the secret to juicy skewers ;P. Note: the grilled bread (man tou) is not the sweet kind served with condensed milk. I ordered 4 lamb skewers, 2 squid tentacles, oyster mushroom, and enoki mushroom. Waited about 20 mins, and still no food! why?? I was so hungry. Finally after 5 more mins, my mushrooms came. 25 mins for mushroom?? That's a bit mediocre. Mushroom was a bit salty.. Too much seasoning maybe? And it was really oily. Finally the lamb came! Oh boy was I excited!! It was so tender and flavored perfectly! You can clearly see the herbs they seasoned it with. It came a bit spicy, but it's a good kick. The squid tentacles were pretty hard and chewy, but then again, it's tentacles. Maybe next time I'll get the squid itself. The service was pretty good compared to most Bellaire services. Maybe because it was slow? This place is really good and skewers are cheap. But the food took too long so I had to deduct a star. It's tucked in the corner of a strip shopping mall next to Justgo, a big pan-Asian supermarket. The sign is in Chinese, as is most of the interior. This place is super authentic! The place is packed with Chinese expatriates, and those visiting from overseas. It's difficult to eavesdrop on the next tables' conversations if you don't know Mandarin! Fortunately, the menu is translated into English, and the staff speak fluent English. They have a wide variety of skewers, from the mundane beef, lamb, or chicken to the more obskewer (ha!) meats like gizzards or hearts. Nom! The skewers are modestly priced at about a buck a piece. Be sure to get a variety! They also have a large selection of noodle dishes. I got the chili noodles, which I think were buckwheat noodles, with a chili sauce and pork. The serving size was gigantic. One of the most amazing things about this place is the cheap, cheap Chinese imported beers they have! $1.50 every day for a cold Chinese bottle of beer seems like such a deal!
