I want to give 4.5 stars! We came here on a Saturday night after finding out the wait at another restaurant was over 1.5 hours. Our friend eats here quite often, since his office is nearby. VERY happy of our decision!! It's a BYOB - but they will provide the fixins for sangria - you just provide the red or white wine. A little pricey for 'virgin' sangria (I think it was about $20 pitcher), but very tasty. It's tapas, so those portions are smaller, but most items can be ordered "racion" - which is a fuller sized portion. We ordered the potatoes and shrimp tapas to split between the 4 of us. The potatoes are like crack - I need more!!! NOW!!!! I think they are deep fried and then oven roasted and tossed in a mayo/hot sauce dressing, but man oh man, were they tasty! The shrimp tapas consisted of 5 very large shrimp in a garlic oil dressing - they were pretty good as well (I would have ordered a double of the potatoes, though). Our one friend and I ordered the short rib 'racion' - 2 large chunks of short ribs, in a little too much thick brown gravy (short ribs were tender and tasty, but the gravy was just a bit too much), with a side of seasoned rice and 5 grilled asparagus. My hubby ordered the skirt steak, but the b*stard ate it before I could try it! Men have died for less! I was very disappointed because it looked awesome (and he said it was)....that came with a side of garlic/oil sautéed spinach. OH - I also ordered an empanada - not your typical 'pierogi' look to it - it was more like a square slice of pie - but that didn't take away from the flaky crust, or the meaty filling - this was also excellent! (I've been craving empanadas for the past month or so - I'm on a mission - and this was one of the top ones that I've had so far!). Service was excellent - the owner stopped by to say "HI" (she also accommodated us without reservations, which are HIGHLY recommended - especially for a Saturday night). Very cozy place with a very friendly staff, and you're not rushed, even though their might be others waiting for a table... We will definitely be back (for the potatoes alone! Customer service at its worst. My friend was turning 50 so I thought I would treat her to some good food and a new atmosphere. I called for reservations and was very badly treated by the woman taking the reservations! I was shocked since I was being polite on the phone and trying to give this restaurant business! She turned me off completely. We did go and had nice food but I will not be going there again due to her lack of simple manners. read more

So happy to have a new place to eat that is #1 really good food and #2 not another Italian spot. We have great Italian eateries in Caldwell only a couple of other ethnic choices. This place is great. Someone for everyone, and everything we tried was at the very least really good. Alright maybe whole marinated garlic cloves are not for everyone, but my husband loved them. The first time I went the food was very good but the waitress was awful. She was pushy while recommending all the most expensive items on the menu, dropped a plate, and the service in general was not good. The second time I went with 4 adults (including myself) and one well behaved child. They were busy but we were the only people who would have been waiting for a table. The same waitress took one look at the child and told me they could not accommodate us- not 20 minute wait but just NO. I found it rude. read more

Great Food! Empanadas, spicy potatoes and skirt steak are must haves. Also liked the dates and the croquettes. A noisy so be prepared but nice friendly service and reliably good food. One of the best (if not the best) in town. read more

Second time here, and really enjoying this restaurant. Brought Prosecco, which I enjoyed more than the sangria we had last time with this meal. Food was really delicious: soup (caldo galego, with beans, chorizo, kale and serrano ham; only "complaint" was the large portion size, when so much delicious food was waiting); dates (5 in the portion) stuffed with blue cheese, wrapped in bacon and drizzled with reduced balsalmic; grilled spanish chorizo over luscious carmelized onions; addicitve spicy Spanish potatoes (tender chunks of potatoes to be eaten with toothpicks, spicy from smoked paprika?); very sweet, tender mussels (not usually a big mussel fan, and I couldn't stop eating these) in white wine and onions. Melt in your mouth short ribs with chorizo rice and slender grilled asparagus a real winner. Pork tenderloin was not my personal favorite, a bit dry, but group finished it non-the-less. Nice service. Well worth the $87 for all this. Looking forward to introducing different friends to this. TIP: park in lot behind and enter through rear! read more

The food here is all delicious and tastes authentic. The atmosphere is cozy and perfect for a date night. The service is good as well with quick service and waiters that check up on you often enough. Every dish is a win, but the patatas bravas are to die for...we always keep reordering more throughout our meal they're devoured as son as they're served. They are quite strict with their hours so arriving 30min within closing lumch or dinner is not an option- per their response every time I call to check. Also, depending on the day the server is either quite delightful answering/explaining questions or she's dismissive and rude. But the food is always delish and has yet to disappoint anyone. read more

I have been here several times and have not been disappointed. The food is fresh, well prepared, and good quality. The menu has plenty of options if you are vegetarian which is always nice when you are out with a group of friends! Xunta rounds out the options in Caldwell, now there is something for everyone! If you want a "club" like experience, go when the Flamenco dancers/guitarist are performing - they are terrific but you will not have a quiet dinner. Bravo! read more

We went to dinner on a Sunday night and the food was as good as the NYTimes article led us to believe. The dates, the skirt steak, the spicy potatoes were all very good. The giant prawns were ok but not amazing. The chorizo over grilled onions was delicious. The star of the meal was the almond cake for dessert. Just DIVINE! And dinner for two with our own bottle of wine added to their very tasty sangria mix was about $80. Not too bad for an evening. STAY LOCAL and give it a try. read more

Ventured here on Saturday night at 5:00. They were literally just opening and although it was completely empty they tried to seat us at a table right by the door but we requested a dfferent table. We had the druken goat cheese, potatoe cassarole, garlic prawns and scallops. We originally wanted the mussels but they were out of them and suggested the scallops. We brought our own wine and asked for them to make it into Sangria which they did for $12.00. Overall the food was very good but the service was lack luster at best. They just left the pitcher of sangria on the table and never offered to pour it, etc. In all they made us feel more like an inconvenience as opposed to a valued customer. There was only 1 other table occupied the whole time we were there. Very disappointing. In addition I felt the prices were very high for the tapas sized selections. $18 for 3 scallops? That's an entree price. We ordered two desserts. The rice pudding at the suggestion of the server as it was a "family recipe". it was fine but nothing special, and the churros which I found cold and almost stale. All in all the meal was ok but the poor unfriendly service and very expensive prices will cause me to never return. read more

We always have a good time at this lovely and authentic Spanish tapas haven. The chef has real Spanish tapas down and the lady who runs the front of the house is a true professional, making everyone feel as if they are having a bite to eat in her little casa in the albaicin in Granada Spain. I am a Caldwell resident and I have been here a few times with my wife. The food is pleasant enough but unfortunately I have to agree with some others reviews that rude service is the weak point, particularly from the lady manager who I assume is the owner. The last time we were made to wait even though there were several open tables. Supposedly they were for phantom reservations. After more than 30 minutes we gave up and went to the Thai place across the street and had a lovely meal with much more friendly service. Too bad about the attitude of this restaurant because the location is so convenient for us. read more

Nice environment and atmosphere, the food is just so-so, some hits and some misses, i never know Tapas here are so much different than we had in Madrid or Seville, tapas here are half course size, and priced at about a main course price. We have had dinner here 5 times and keep returning because every dish is so good. We were in Barcelona last year and this tastes like the real thing. I can say that the skirt steak which we have ordered every time is cooked exactly the way we ordered and is tasty and tender. Spicy potatoes also really tasty. Frankly I like bringing our own wine. And I like tapas because you can eat lightly if that's what you feel like and it's fun to share dishes with a group. read more

OMG...where do I begin. A hidden gem in Caldwell. The spicy potatoes, grilled skirt steak, and the empanada were excellent. The morcilla although not the usual version most puertoricans are use too was delicious too. The menu has enough items to warrant a second or third trip back. And the dessert was just as good...had the almond lemon torte with vanilla ice cream, yummy! Don't forget to bring your favorite drink since it's BYOB. Highly recommend for the food and the service. I canNOT get enough of this restaurant. Xunta always seems to out do itself every time I return. Whether it's for lunch or dinner, the food is always delicious. The staff is very friendly and always ready to answer any questions or talk about the different foods available. Not only that, but I have brought a few friends here with gluten allergies and they were fantastic when accommodating her needs. Food is 5 stars, excellent and would recommend it for that. BUT the staff and service has a lot to desire. Just bad attitude all around, like they were doing us a favor serving us. We had an 8:30 reservation and by 10 they are taking our plates, even though we were still picking and drinking as they said that the dishwasher wanted to go home. While i look at how good or bad food is usually i also pay attention to my overall dining experience which includes friendly staff and good service. The host and the servers here were acting like we owed them something. We never felt welcomed because these women just walk around with moody faces and never smile. Service was so so bad. I get it- you hate your job but please do me and other people a favor and get a different job because this one is clearly making you miserable. Ugh simply terrible experience. read more

I've been to this restaurant 4 times so far and have not been disappointed. Because it is tapas it gave us the opportunity to try many of the items on the menu and all did not fail to impress. The chorizo with caramelized onions, grilled chicken brochettes, chicken empanada, pork tenderloin and it goes on and on, all had their own unique flavor and has been consistently well prepared. But my favorite is the braised short ribs with asparagus and cilantro rice, excellent! And if your a novice to Spanish cuisine do not hesitate to ask the very helpful servers taking your order. Xunta is an awesome place. I went to Spain about two weeks ago and Xunta s tapas are really fantastic, like Spain in NJ. We ordered Seafood Tapas like garlic prawns, blackened squid and Galician octopus. Our favorite was the octopus, great taste. It's really hard to find octopus like this in the United States. Had 7:30 reservations for Sat night, walked in and were seated right away. Place was small and noisy. Wait staff was pleasant and answered our questions. They say 2 to 3 small plates per person for shared tapas. There were 4 of us, and probably did not get that many I will try and list all we got. All were good except the octopus, I read other reviews on it and they hit the nail on the head, they were slimy almost mucus like in texture (how can you get that wrong?) We had the dates, the potato bravas, the skirt steak, the tomato bread, garlic prawns, grilled chicken over rice, chorizo over carmelized onion, string bean sauteed in garlic. All were good, like I said but I can't get over how they can mess up the octopus so bad. It was one of the only dishes we left and didn't want to finish. All in all I would try it again but not if I want to have a relaxing conversation with someone...I felt I had to shout when I spoke and sit close to listen. 4 of us ate for about $120.00 read more
