We've come to Xunta a few times since it opened and every time we are never disappointed. We went last summer with friends of ours and had a great meal. When we tried to make plans with those friends this week, they asked to go back to Xunta! We made reservations and were seated right away. Our server was very attentive. I believe the owner was the woman who was also assisting tables. She was very attentive as well! We brought a bottle of wine and they made us a delicious pitcher of sangria. For our tapas, we ordered the croquettes, the bacon-wrapped dates, the spicy potatoes, and the meat board. All were delicious! My personal favorites were the croquettes and spicy potatoes. I don't know what kind of sauce they use on those potatoes, but they're amazing. For dessert we ordered the flan and the churros. Again, not disappointed! The total price was not that bad, either. I think our total came to around $70 for everything. Reasonable in my opinion. Another great experience at Xunta. It has become part of the Saturday night date-night rotation! read more

At 915, they brought the check, started to take plates away, bagged our food, and literally put every chair up around us, despite a friend who was still eating. What an incredible find!!! We were seated right away without reservations on a Thursday night. My party ordered the Serrano Croquettes - DELISH - what a way to start the night. Then we ordered the perfectly cooked skirt steak, squid in ink, manchago cheese, and finished it off with CHURROS... Absolutely delicious! Make sure to bring a well balanced wine as its BYO. I would give this place 5 stars however after indulging in the most amazing food the other night (spicy potatoes, skirt steak with chimmichuri, chicken on a skewer, roasted red peppers with mozz) we both went home with wierd stomach pains. Let's just say I spent the night NOT on the couch and my husband spent the next morning NOT getting to work at his usual time. I mean the food was SO tasty. But for both of us to have stomach problems within 12 hours after we ate there, one can only assume...we will go back for sure but if it happens again I think we'll officially steer clear. Wow, what a great experience. Read the reviews on Yelp and knew my husband and I had to go. Everything was fantastic. We shared the croquettes, bread with Serrano ham, melted Spanish cheese and tomato, grilled octopus, short ribs, empanadas, and the dates with blue cheese wrapped in bacon. Sooo good. Our server Rachel was top notch. She gave us good suggestions since it was our first time here. She was so sweet and did an excellent job spacing our food out in the perfect time frame. I would definitely recommend Xunta. We had a reservation as it is a Friday evening. Restaurant was full but calm full - not crazy or too loud like you see in other restaurants. Excellent food, lots of options for any diet. As a gluten free eater, it is SO appreciated that so many things on this menu are clean and healthy and labeled. Also many vegetarian options. We order the tapas: skirt steak, chicken, octopus and stuffed dates. Everything was perfectly cooked and delicious! For the two of us, it was a good amount. Fantastic! I was so excited this place opened up, Tapas is one of my favorite things to eat out, but there are so few true Tapas restaurants to go to. I will definitely be returning. We ordered the Croquette of the day, bacon wrapped dates with blue cheese, grilled shrimp in oil, grilled chorizo, skirt steak with chimichurri, chicken empanada, spicy potatoes, and the white anchovies. The croquette was outrageously good, but what made it really stand out was the red paprika sauce they served it with, the white anchovies had a great flavor and served simply so you can enjoy the flavor with no interference, the bacon wrapped dates were wonderful with just enough blue cheese to add the flavor, but not over power anything else, and the whole thing just sort of melted together perfectly. The shrimp were large and cooked perfectly, ask for bread if they don't bring it, you'll want it for the sauce, even the potatoes were perfectly fried with a yummy spicy mayo type sauce. Oh yeah, and the chorizo was one whole chorizo split length wise and grilled served over very good caramelized onions, The only reason for the 4 vs 5 stars, the skirt steak had absolutely no salt, and I am a firm believer that all steak needs to be seasoned with salt. Even eaten together with the chimmichuri, it needed to be seasoned. And the empanada is not a traditional one, which is fine, but I did not enjoy it, the white meat chicken seemed too dry and the onions and peppers tasted too generic and was really all I tasted. But those two items aside, the food is fantastic, the staff is very friendly, the owner was walking around to see how people were doing, and the decor is just fancy enough to feel upscale but still casual. It is a byob, but they have homemade sangria mixes to mix with your wine. I'm excited for my second trip back to try more of the menu! read more

We had: Croquettes of the day which were monchego cheese and Serrano ham...so good we ended up order a 2nd order. Skirt steak - perfectly cook. A little overpriced for the size portion Chorizo - excellent Octopus - which was my 5 yo son's favorite Spicy Potatoes - Probably our favorite. Simple, seasoned perfectly and you get a lot! Squid looked crazy due to the black coloring of the Squid Ink but man it's delicious. Shockingly, just as good the next day as I eat it reheated at work. Still tender and delicious! What a wonderful place to share food with your family and friends. Their food is great. Every dish we had was perfectly prepared and super tasty. They have two plate sizes, small and large. The small is perfect for 2-3 people to share. The large we were able to stretch out so that all 9 of us got a taste. We ordered about 10 different items, all large plates and doubled up on 2 dishes based on the waitresses recommendation. Ask the waitress to control the order and pace of the dishes coming out. This way everything is hot when you eat it instead of all the dishes coming out at once and sitting around. They are a BYOB but will make you some great sangria with either the red or white wines you bring. Make sure you try it. For dessert we ordered one of each (6 items). On;y one size here but it was enough for all 9 of us to share. Only negative is the place is long and narrow so the noise volume is very high. I was so excited when I first saw that their was a Tapas restaurant opening in our neighborhood! I own a business in NYC and often take clients and staff out for Tapas. Its a fun festive atmosphere to be enjoyed as a group. We, my wife and I, ate at Xunta the very first day they opened and was not disappointed. The food was fantastic, fresh, tasty, well prepared, and a knowledgeable wait staff! We had octopus, croquettas with a wonderful garlic sauce, squid ink calamari with cilantro rice, all top notch. We have returned several times after, and I will say that the food has never disappointed, still very tasty and fresh! However I will say this. Xunta is a new place in a very family oriented and humble neighborhood, and after being in business for maybe a month in a half they have steadily raised their prices at least three times. Xunta now is a VERY expensive night out for tapas! More expensive than any NYC Tapas restaurant without the fancy location! I love the food here, the staff is very attentive, the female part of the ownership is very engaging and friendly, but for what they are charging it has lost it worth in my opinion. I give Xunta 4 stars for their food, but no stars for their business sense. read more

I'm very surprised at the fine reviews this restaurant has received. My party of 7 ordered at least that many dishes and all were rather dry and tasteless. The spicy potatoes were ok, the grilled sardines were over cooked and dry, same with the squid, the mushrooms were nasty. My family is from Spain and I grew up on many of the foods they serve here. The flavors, the way the food was executed were really similar to my family's style - so I loved the food at Xunta inside and out. They produced great tapas and its evident they use quality ingredients and a talented chef. The waitstaff was more than competent and friendly... My favorite dish was the grilled chorizo - it was the best chorizo I ever had (haven't been to Spain but have had at least a couple hundred chorizos in my life). It was overall a very good experience. I would definitely go back - especially with friends so that we could order more tapas and have a smorgasbord. read more

I went here because I love tapa style restaurants and the yelp reviews were amazing. However, our experience was sub par. We ordered the croquettes, scallops, empanada, and chorizo (all tapa style). Out of all the dishes the croquettes was the only one that seemed to be worth the price. The scallops were over cooked and definitely not worth it. Empanada was average... The chorizo wasn't bad but still nothing I would write home about. They forgot to put in our order for the empanada as well at first. Also I felt as if our server was not very attentive as we would have empty plates sitting for 10-15 min and the restaurant was not busy (only 2 other parties besides us). I had an empty glass of water that was never offered to be refilled and felt almost as if we were being ignored for the most part and we felt as if the waitress was not being friendly towards us. I was very surprised because I usually agree with yelp reviews and I have been to a lot of the top reviewed places in my area. Definitely not a place I would go back to again and not worth the extra price. read more

We didn't even get to eat. The owner, Carmen, was rude, obnoxious, and completely unaccomodating. She threw a tantrum when a pregnant customer asked for a non-alcoholic drink and she couldn't provide it. She literally brought the customer to tears. If you can't fulfill the request, explain why, and then we move on from there. But you don't scold the customer and literally throw a bottle of wine on the table. The best food in the world isn't worth the humiliation. Shame. read more

Food is mediocre at best, nothing compared to what you can actually get a few miles away in the ironbound for half the price. What is unfortunate about xunta is the absolutely awful service particularly from the older more heavyset woman who I think is the manager. She has been incredibly rude to us the last 2 times we were there. First time she rushed us through our dinner, second time she mixed up our reservation and was just absolutely indignant and rude about it, and we wound up leaving! The restaurant next-door told us it's pretty much her MO. It's a shame, really, because it's this that makes me advise friends to choose otherwise. Not a good way to run a business. read more
