Pistachio & Ricotta Cake and Chocolate pistachio cake (Dubai choc style)
    Tianna D.

I'd walk past this bakery every now and then to find out it's been featured in Boston's Best article so I added it to my list. Finally got to try them recently. Walked in and was greeted with a sample of chai and 2 sample desserts. Ordered the chocolate pistachio cake, This was like Dubai chocolate styled cake with the kataifi in the pistachio. This was nice, I personally could have done without the layer of chocolate on top since it's so hard to break evenly and it was thick in texture to the rest of the cake. The pistachio ricotta cake was phenomenal. I wasn't expecting it to be so light and airy, I had to hold myself back from inhaling the whole thing at once. Both were shared and I got a baklava for my personal treat. I'll be back again very soon!

My very first time to try Palestinian desserts, in this small but wonderful café titled "2023 Best New Bakery" and "2024 Best Bakery" in "Best of Boston". Harissa: Sweet but not overwhelming, fragrant yet not greasy, it was what traditional desserts supposed to be. And what I appreciate most is its muffin-like moist and smooth texture. Baklava Rolls / Walnut: Crispy on the outside, while sugary and nutty fragrant on the inside. The aroma of cinnamon and cardamom were mild and easy to accept. It kind of reminded me of the Almond Roca candy. To emphasize, the service was unexpectedly considerate. As a new customer, I simply asked the assistant for recommendations, and she offered me samples of 4 kinds of desserts and a cup of Yafa Chai Karak to try. Although it was hard to get accustomed to the spices, I still appreciate the kindness.

Amazing service. The staff wants to feed us full with samples. It enables us to find the right dessert for us. The Kunafuh cream is very fragrant, imagine eating a beautiful flower.

Service: Oh my gosh, I've been dying to try Yafa Bakery and Cafe in Somerville for months! As a South Asian girl who loves Middle Eastern food, I felt like I was in my own world here. It's so hard to find authentic and traditional Muslim desserts that are pistachio and rose flavored in Boston. The owner is super warm and welcoming, like he's your own family member. He'll give you samples of little treats and pick out some drinks for you. Ambiance: Yada Bakery and Cafe is decorated with so many beautiful cultural and artistic pieces that make you feel like you're in a beautiful Palestinian bakery. The books on display and the plants and art work are really eye-catching and make you think. I was totally mesmerized by every corner of this amazing place. I'll definitely be back! Food: I tried the Yafa chai, the cheese and spinach fatayer, manaqeesh, hummus, and a bunch of other yummy sweets. I have nothing but great things to say about this cafe. The fatayer and maanaqeesh paired perfectly with the hummus. The rose and pistachio dessert was rich and decadent, and it left my sweet tooth happy. The Yafa coffee was so delicious and I couldn't put my cup down. I'm so glad I found this bakery. I can't wait to come back often and for Ramadan and Eid treats. Thanks so much for being so hospitable! I hope your business continues to flourish. I can't wait to come back again soon. Please save me a seat and let me know if you ever need a taste tester. :)

Just one step in and you'll feel the warmth and hospitality from all directions. It's really a place you need to visit yourself and I know you won't regret it. Food: The smell of the fresh teas and pastries makes your mouth water. Then the samples the staff happily shares makes it harder not to try a few things yourself. The chai was my drink of choice and it was probably the best you'll have in the great Boston area. Service: The staff was so excited for each customer and was so happy to be sharing the food they crafted. You are offered so many things to try that it actually makes it harder to settle on just one or two things to actually buy. Atmosphere: The decor was welcoming and calming and I'm sure I could easily sit for hours reading or doing work.

I've been meaning to visit this place for a long time and finally made it. The shop is small but cozy, there's a line because they take their time with each customer. They offer you tastes of the pastries and chai. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Everything is beautiful and it's hard to decide. Tons of sweet options and some savory ones as well. You can tell everything is made with care. We really enjoyed our visit and the treats. A beautiful addition to Somerville.

If I could rate Yafa more than 5 stars, I would! I dropped in on my way to a friend's house. The girl behind the counter was SO kind and welcoming. She helped to walk me through the items, answered my many questions, and I ended up putting together a delicious spread, all of things I'd never tried. I also loved the mint tea. So refreshing! I will absolutely be back, even though I live 30 minutes away. It was that good! I plan on bringing guests here as well. Thanks for your hospitality, Yafa!

so amazing the people that work there are the best they're so sweet we got samples of their chai and some cookies. they ask about allergies when you get there which is so great. the hummus and the cheese tomato manakeesh were so amazing. the place feels so welcoming i couldn't recommend it more

The most beautiful assortment of Palestinian desserts, savory bakery items, and a great selection of drinks -- both hot & iced! My sister and I walked in and were immediately greeted and handed samples of baklava, harissa, and a hot cup of chai (?) Please make it a point to stop by if you are ever visiting or are in the area. This place is beautiful and will not disappoint!! Staff are friendly and made us feel welcome & cared for :) plenty of seating indoors as well

The minute I walked in, I got a whiff of the maamoul baking! as much as I would have liked to try everything, it would have been too much y food. I tried the zaatar mana'eesh (and I appreciate that they warmed it up) and got a side of hummus and it was divine. The ambiance was cute and the waitress was helpful and offered us a sample of the tea and one of the baked items.

What a beautiful cafe with such endearing people. We had the joy to meet Abdula, he is sincere and welcoming. We were welcomed in and provided samples and taught the story and details behind the delicious treats. I ordered the chai and wow, just so delicious! I also ordered a couple of sweets to go to take back home, the sweets survived the plane ride well! Glad I got share vegan Palestinian sweets with my husband and tell him about this cafe. I hope to be back again soon.

In a few words I can say that it was a totally delightful experience! We ended up visiting Yafa on my birthday after watching a video about the most interesting Arab places to eat in the Boston area in which this bakery was featured at and it definitely deserves to be on the list of best places to eat in the Boston. In addition to the delicious coffee and chai tea that we enjoyed very much, we ordered several pastries from the great selection that they have available. We ordered two types of kunafah (traditional Middle Eastern pastry made with filo dough or semolina flour, cheese, and sugar syrup with or without rose water), one made with a layer of pistachios and the other made with cream instead of cheese inside and covered with rose petals (from this last one we don't have pictures because it was gone before we even realized that no pics were taken). We also ordered other pastries such as baklavas, pistachios cookies, and others that were absolutely delicious (pics included). We also enjoyed a kind of empanada filled with potato (I think it is called potato snail because it has the shape of a snail) as well as a semolina bread to go, both absolutely delicious!! The attention was absolutely amazing and the place is very clean and cozy (although pretty small, so, you may need to wait for a table if you want to eat in). We were fortunate to find a table and also to had the opportunity of engaging in a great conversation with the person sitting on the neighbor one, so we spent about an hour chatting and eating delicious sweets ...It was a very special birthday treat!!

The chai mix, Zaatar, Yafa merch, impressive quality

What a delight! The beautifully decorated, bright and colorful ambiance with gracious hosts. It felt like we were visiting a family rather than making a quick coffee stop. Being a chai fanatic I was impressed with their house recipe. Bought the chi mix so I can bring the delicious taste home with me to California. We purchased their green mint lemonade drink to go and more pastries. Everything we tried was remarkably made, no sugar overload at all. Service was super professional with warmth and a genuine smile. I wish these guys opened in California!

We walked into a cozy, bohemian atmosphere filled with eclectic décor, photos, artwork, books, puzzles, chess boards, and an overall sense that people are encouraged to slow down and stay present. Despite the relatively small footprint, the space manages to feel welcoming rather than cramped, with indoor seating that supports conversation and outdoor seating that becomes especially popular during warmer months. Coffee is clearly the centerpiece here. We ordered espresso based drinks, including a flat white and a seasonal Juniper Latte, both of which were prepared with care and a clear emphasis on quality. The café leans into a more thoughtful coffee program, and that attention shows in the cup. Beyond the drinks, the pastry selection is good, particularly the croissants and scones, which paired naturally with the coffee menu. The experience is helped by friendly, engaged staff who contribute to the café's welcoming personality. Conversations with the baristas and small community touches helped create an environment that felt more personal than transactional. The laptop free policy can catch first time visitors by surprise, but for many regulars it is part of what gives Faro its distinctive identity and helps preserve the social atmosphere that sets it apart from more work focused cafés. For a coffee stop in Harvard Square that prioritizes human connection over productivity, Faro Cafe delivers a warm, intentional space worth slowing down for.

The space is pretty tight and it was really busy when I showed up but absolutely cleared out as I sat down to eat. I ordered a cold brew, which was a bit watery, but I like it super dark so it's probably just my taste preference. They put the milk/cream in for you and you pick the coffee up in a separate spot from the food. They call your name for both pickups. For food I got the devilled egg open face bagel that has bacon on top on a whole wheat everything bagel. Eating it was intense. I couldn't put it down once I picked up each side and had to be very careful not to spill the egg mixture off the top. It took a while to eat but was amazingly delicious and exactly what I wanted. I would eat it everyday if I could. If it came with micro greens on top, it would be even better. The mixture had red onions which gave it a punch and crunchy texture. I considered adding salt to the mixture on top but I'm glad I didn't because the bagel itself had sea salt so each bite was salty enough. When I ordered I asked if I could also get 2 bagels to bring home and I was told the limit is 1 on weekends and 2 during the week. The manager (I assume) stepped in and said I could have 2 so I chose the rosemary sea salt, which the only have on weekends. I made breakfast sandwiches on them the next day and it was heavenly. My favorite dish was the duck noodles. I liked the freshness of the basil in the pesto, and the tenderness and juiciness of the duck. The coconut eggplant was a close second favorite. The coconut flavor was delicious, and I liked the nuts on top for crunch. I also found the ginger cabbage salad to be yummy, but not as much as a standout as the other two dishes. TLDR: You can't go wrong with a warm, freshly made waffle…read morehere, but people definitely have their individual preferences. My recommendation is to go with the Liege waffle with berries and your pick of any other toppings. With a cozy atmosphere and the smell of warm waffles, this is an especially good spot during the colder months, but still a favorite in the warmer months too. ------ FOOD: THE LIEGE (5/5) The Liege waffle is the classic here and the one I'd recommend. Sweet, thick, and a richer snack (i.e. the satisfying treat you're probably looking for if you're stopping by a waffle shop). All of the topping combos are classic, and the berries they use here are high quality. Waffles come out hot and fresh after just being made, so if you order ice cream or whipped cream, know that you'll have to eat quickly if you don't want it to melt into the waffle. THE BRUSSELS (4.5/5) Besides the Liege, the Brussels waffle is an interesting choice and very different from the Liege. As the menu describes, it's definitely significantly lighter, and it's crispier in a different way (not from the caramelization of the pearl sugar but from crisped up batter similar to an Ego waffle). It's extremely delicate, so I'd recommend just doing some powdered sugar and maybe a chocolate drizzle or some whipped cream. ------ ENVIRONMENT / AMBIANCE: * Small shop on the edge of Harvard Square. Some window seating and a few small tables best for groups of 2 - 4. * Given how small it is inside, finding a seat during peak hours can be particularly challenging, and lines can be out the door too. ------ SERVICE: * Order at the kiosk and then find a seat (if you can). When a waffle is done, they'll call a name and come to you once you indicate that it's for you. * Water and utensils are self-service, and the expectation is that you put your plates, utensils, and cups away in a bin inside by the counter.

The ultimate sweetness is evident from the ingredients. The waffle was light and crispy on the outside, soft and moist on the inside; the sweetness of the banana and caramel is mellow and rich, the pearl sugar was slightly caramelized, and the sweetness of the cream was natural and light. Every bite offered a different layer of flavor. But most importantly, it was really sweet, and sweetness is the most soul-stirring enjoyment. It was sweet enough to bring peace, allowing you to temporarily escape the world and focus on this plate of beautiful fairytale. Café au Lait (Latte): Beautifully layered, with a natural milky aroma.
