I enjoyed Yafo as fast casual option on a recent trip. It has a great variety of meat, veggie, and topping options for Mediterranean style foods. Everything seemed fresh. It is very comparable to Naf Naf and Cava. The sumac onions and chicken shwarma were very flavorful and the portion sizes were generous. I did also enjoy the harissa hummus. I did not feel that this location particularly clean. I also have to be careful about cross contamination of food and felt like they were very messy when getting certain items with noticeable spillage causing a large allergy risk. We did the Build Your Own, which start at $8.99. With the add-ons, it definitely adds up very quickly. For my grain bowl, I got jasmine rice, hummus, diced cucumber, diced tomato, purple cabbage slaw, sumac onions, mediterranean pickles, kalamata olives, chickpea and roasted red pepper salad, and feta cheese. I also added the cauliflower with tahini and Brussels sprouts with dates, both for an additional cost. For my protein, I got the pulled rotisserie lamb. I've also had the shawarma chicken, and out of the two, I definitely prefer the lamb. It has more flavor. All in all, it came out to be $17 for my bowl. Everyone else really enjoyed their bowls. My sister got the falafel and said it was delicious. For sides, we got rotisserie potatoes and greek yogurt mac + cheese. The potatoes were not worth it. The mac + cheese, however, was AMAZING. Moral of the story is that it's pretty expensive, but you can get 2 meals out of it easily. The ingredients are fresh and it's so tasty. Fresher ingredients than CAVA and a local chain? Yes and yes! I built my bowl with half grains and half greens. One thing YAFO doesn't do is skimp on toppings, which we all really appreciated! My bowl was filled to the lid and I had enough food to get two meals out of it! You can get as many cold toppings as you want for no additional cost. For my protein, I got the chicken shawarma, which wasn't dry at all and seasoned well. They also include pita if you'd like. We discovered Yafo last year and have gone back multiple times. Good: *Flavorful food, we really like their food when it is prepared properly. Bad: *Preparation - if food is prepared properly, it is great. Unfortunately, there is always inconsistency with preparation, and I don't get why. For example, one time we ordered two sides of the mac and cheese because we enjoy it, but it was so overly salty that we had to throw both out (it was a take out order and we do not live exactly close to here). This last time, back to it's normal goodness. Another example is arayes, this last time it was black on the outside, way over crispy and overly cooked. *Changes of menu - I wish they would do a better job of utilizing their social media account and letting people know when menu items would be taken off. My favorite menu item was the moroccan lamb baguette, which I got last time, and now that I look at the menu, it is gone. In fact, all of their baguette sandwiches are gone. *Their change from the rotisserie potatoes to the garlic potatoes - both are good, but the rotisserie had a lot more flavor. With a menu of simple, fresh ingredients, they make it pretty easy for us to find healthy options and at affordable prices. I love the Build Your Own Bowl option because you can put in whatever you like! I'm personally a big fan of falafel for my protein and Yafo does it right! WOW. I couldn't believe how generous this Bowl was...actually so cheap for all that it had to offer. I may even become a Rice fan (over my serious Pasta/Noodles addiction). I also liked the cool, casual ambiance too...and loved the color scheme! This is like the Mediterranean version of chipotle but healthier. I usually order a bowl with half and half rice and salad. Then I can choose any toppings I would like. If you are vegetarian this would be a great place to go. Usually a bowl is pretty filling to the point I might have some leftovers but if you eat a lot then hopefully you get enough toppings. Typically my bowl is filled to the top. If you want more of something, don't be afraid to ask! On top of that you also get pita. Let's just say this: it more than lives up to the hype. Best chicken sandwich in Charlotte for sure. It actually wasn't as spicy as I thought it would be. The tzatziki (I think that's what it was) they put on it cut the spice a lot. This was also my first time trying their mac and cheese which I got as a side. So creamy and delicious. I had a coupon for a free side of hummus which is obviously delicious and was a huge portion. I usually get their build your own bowl which I also love. They're starting to get more variety that it's hard to decide what to order now! They do specialty juices too. I like to mix the cucumber lime mint with the lemonade. One of my new favorite healthy/choose-your-bowl-options restaurants in Charlotte! You stand in line to order as soon as you walk in, go through a line where you pick your base (rice or salad), veggies, meats, and then drinks. I came in a little overwhelmed, being my first time in, but the workers were SUPER friendly, walked me through the process, and gave me flavor descriptions of all the options. I honestly felt like a pain in butt for being indecisive, but they made me feel amazing and they were happy to help me choose my foods and toppings! The best recommendation they gave me was to go with the spinach and kale mix as my base and then add on all the veggies and toppings that I wanted. This helped me to not overeat and I didn't feel bad about finishing my bowl in one sitting. At the end, you choose your big veggies and meats for an additional charge for each larger topping, so beware of adding 4 or 5 veggies or meats. The tahini was a good choice as my sauce, but I will be trying another one next time. The coconut juice that they make on site tastes like a pina colada! Not my first Yafo experience, but first time at this location, and it fits the bill with the other locations! I will say that I think the staff here is above and beyond helpful, which I love, especially when your hands are full. The bowls are amazing, the hummus is delicious, the Mac and cheese is something that needs to be entered in a Mac and cheese hall of fame and the chicken is roasted perfectly. It's everything you want in Mediterranean - light, fresh and filling. Do yourself a favor and get shug on the side...sure it has jalapeños in it, but it is not overly spicy and I pour this concoction on everything! It adds just another depth of flavor and goes perfectly with the bread. I love this concept of made to order and getting to choose from their many delicious toppings. Personal favorites are the tomato and cucumber salad, roasted beets and their feta, but honestly I haven't had a bad topping there. Everything was delicious, though my coworkers were over the moon with their spicy chicken sandwich, which makes me think that that's what you should be ordering. However, I got a rice bowl with lots of protein and was just as happy. The meat dries a bit (my lamb) as your food gets cold, but that's pretty normal--just eat faster (lol). Shawarma chicken was also flavorful and wonderful, and the falafel balls are a treat as well. Their red spicy sauce is indeed spicy, so do be warned. read more

I tried YAFO for the first time. I placed my husband's and my order online 30 minutes in advance to give us time to drive over. It was a Friday around 7 and the 2 meals were supposed to be ready at 7:30. We got there on time but had to wait nearly 20 minutes for it to be ready. (This is why 4 stars) If you order online, you pick you from the front of the restaurant. They have a big open "window" where they set the to-go orders. You stand around outside on the patio area while you wait, so if you order online, you don't have to enter the building. If you DON'T order online, you can still go inside and place your order. Our food was good and high quality. I did 1/2 lettuce and 1/2 grains and it was much more grains than lettuce. I'm a veggie person, so next time I would go with just lettuce as a base and add a note to see if they could add maybe a small scoop of grains. The food is healthy but if you add a bunch of sauces or toppings, the calories will add up quickly. It's great to have healthy options though and my husband loves being able to get stuffed grape leaves here. read more

That can rack up the cost quickly if you're like me and can't help but having a variety or trying new things. I always get the tabbouleh, carrot salad, cucumber and tomato, cabbage slaw, chickpea salad, and lemon quinoa salad. The extras I get are usually the Mac and cheese, cauliflower, and chicken salad. Sometimes I add meat but it's a ton of food, so sometimes I leave it out. Can't recommend enough and the price is on par with everything else nowadays, ranging from $12-17.
