First time trying their new location on Daphne. The interior had plenty of seating and simple decor. There were nick-nacks for sell at the register. Service was standard and efficient. The food came out hot and fresh. Mixed reviews on the flavors of the food. The flavor level leaned toward the bland side for our preference but wasn't bad. The spice level was just right for us. Would eat here again for a change of pace! My favs were the cheese naan and fried chicken momo. read more

I really hate writing bad reviews but I also hate paying money for poor quality food. Customer service was good and I will say this place was better before the pandemic when they had the buffet but what I had recently was some of the worst Indian/nepalese/Himalayan food I've ever had. I ordered the dal fry, vindaloo vegetables, and pakora. The dal fry was the wateriest/soupiest dal I've ever had with absolutely no flavor. The. Vindaloo which is typically a rich red color , that is savory and tangy and spicy looked like a bland curry they just added a little vinegar too. It had none of the complexity of flavor you'd expect, was poorly salted, and tasted like they just threw in a bunch of chilly to make it spicy. The pakora was ok, though not at all crispy, more thick and doughy and soaked the bag in oil. What was most appalling was the mint chutney which was an unnatural form of green, tasted watery, and stained all the food green. I don't know what they're putting in that but when you make mint chutney with mint and cilantro and natural ingredients, it doesn't look like that and it tastes a whole lot better. I don't know if they're getting by making low quality food because there are limited options in the area but this was really disappointing. read more

On Friday, I visit Yak with my family. We called in our order for take out. The restaurant was about 20 mins from our home and was ready when we got there. When I got their, one of their staff members greeted us with our meal and checked me out. In the past, I ordered their "Honey Chicken," however they were out so I opted for the Spicy Butter Chicken. I pair it with their Cheese and Garlic Naan. My meal came with rice to eat along the butter chicken. Overall their to-go service was phenomenal but did not seem to have a large dine-in crowd for a Friday night. Would eat this again and recommend to those wanting to try Nepalese Cuisine. read more

Do not eat here unless you see the inspection score on the wall to have changed to a 95 or higher. The filth cannot be healthy. The chicken? In my guest's dinner was so unusual that they thought it was the skin of a potato! Bathroom was vile! A mixed bag here. The food was very competent, if not great. The service itself wasn't too bad, but the overall concept is badly flawed. You walk into a dark room with the atmosphere of the men's room at New York Penn Station. You are directed to order on a confusing terminal designed for trained servers. A pre-selected 18% tip is suggested despite not even seeing a staff member yet. Like wtf??? I DONT WORK HERE and neither does anybody else apparently. Look I understand labor is more expensive now but every other restaurant has figured out how to make it work. This place was like a morgue. The lady that eventually brought out our food was nice and the food came out quickly. The chicken curry was decent. The Lamb momo was really good, as was the combo biryani. The naan was average. I wouldn't drive very far for this place but it's not bad. The service concept and atmosphere needs big work. read more

We ordered food for pick up on Friday evening, without reading any reviews! When I entered the restaurant I was shocked to see a very dated, dark room with a randon layout that did not feel like a restaurant. It felt filty, the area of lunch buffet had rusted, backened containers. I picked up the food and was debating if we should eat it or not. What if the food was also old like the restaurant? Should we risk food poisoning? But then when I opened it, the naans looked fresh and home-made. And the curries (malai kofta and veg coconut korma) also looked fresh. Even though the veg korma was made with frozen mix vegetables, it tasted good. Spice level was perfect for both the curries. We actually enjoyed the food, for which I am giving three stars. Will not revisit due to the dark, shabby, dirty look of the place. read more

What a find! We're used to having to choose between ok overpriced gourmet restaurants and fast food. Yak fills our needs. We ordered online and our food was ready promptly. When I went in, it wasn't busy, which is a shame because the food is great. It was well decorated with artistic items befitting the food. Though we ate out, I noticed the place looked clean and homey. I got the Vegetable Chili Momo, a personal favorite, and it truly was spicy like I like it. We love Indian and Nepalese cuisine and, so, we were excited to try Yak. We pull up at 6pm on Friday and there are two cars in the parking lot of a run down looking facility in a big box parking lot. Hey, this should be good because we love places with character. However, the lack of customers should have been a clue. We walk in and the place is dark and down right filthy. We see the sign that says order on the kiosks. Never saw an employee. We walk up to the kiosk, which is just a tablet on the counter, and the screen is disgusting. No, I mean disgusting. This is the first thing people touch when they walk in. How did it get covered in slime and filth? I put my abhorrence aside and I attempt to use the nasty contraption and as I navigate the menu I break down and say "I can't, I just can't". My wife is visibly disgusted as well and says thank you. We leave. I think that just about wraps it up. Try at your own risk. read more

Himalayan food!! First time for me. The lamb saag is a lamb engulfed in spinach creme sauce. I chose medium heat which keeps your lips tingling for a short time. Hubby had the lamb kabobs with pan fried seasonal vegetables. He got the mild which was still Spicy. This was a great experience with food I have never had. I will certainly be back to try other menu items. This is the closest I will ever get to Nepal. Taste of the country! The items we ordered we had to wait a while for but it was well worth it. Come for dinner only if you have time. Great night out with friends. Dessert on the menu is homemade ice cream and rice pudding with raisins. Great for family. I order takeout from here frequently and have never been disappointed with my standard order: bhatmas sadeko (crunchy soybeans with onions, peppers, and garlic) and mulligatawny soup (yellow lentils.) I know from past experience their mango lassi (beverage) and pita bread are amazing too. The quality of food is excellent, and their menu is huge! It's always warm and tastes fresh. The only negative I've found with this restaurant is that it's difficult to navigate the menu... but everything is good even if you don't really know what you're ordering. Also, if you are taking your food to go, the fried appetizers can get a little soggy if you leave them in the box for too long. Yak's eco-friendliness is pretty good. Their bags are brown paper, and their to go containers are reusable! Dishwasher safe on the top shelf. COVID-wise, they are very cautious. They need to shut it down and deep clean it for a week. Everything was sticky, from the floor to the table and chair, computer you order your own food. Windows were splattered, dust everywhere. It kind of grossed me out for a moment.Chicken biryani was ok but the tikka was missing the rich flavor you expect from the dish. The curry veg did not worth the $10. This used to be one of my favorite places to go. Something different in Fairhope when it first opened up . The wait staff was actually glad you was there and anxious to wait on the customers . It is not what I remember anymore . Food is not any good anymore . It was very watered down . The manger / wait staff at the front just sat in the booth when I came in and just looked at me . Didn't say hello ! Can I help you .... nothing . Very disappointed about the whole situation . 12/9/22 between 6/7 pm no customers was there at that time . Which should have gave me a clue . This is the best restaurant in Fairhope. The prices are reasonable, staff is so friendly and helpful. I would have the lunch buffet daily if I could afford it. As a vegetarian, the options are wonderful. The owner, and kitchen staff are such great hosts. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to avoid the 10 fried chicken and BBQ restaurants in town. If you're vegan, they will use coconut milk/oil instead of butter! Delicious samosas, the pacoras are brilliant and, don't miss the brown tamarind sauce. Having heard that the Yak in Fairhope is wonderful and much better than the Mobile one, I went there tonight. The service was almost nonexistent, and some of the food was terrible and completely unlike what it was billed as on the menu, although we were assured that we had, in fact, gotten the poori, which turned out to be a greasy partially fried tortilla that was not puffed whatsoever. It wasn't supposed to be, either, as it was wrapped in foil like a tortilla. The menu specified that this dish is a puffed bread, which is consistent with what Indian poori is supposed to be, but that is not what we were served, despite our protestations. Accordingly, I am never going to another Yak again. I forgive such abuse only once from a restaurant, and I had another execrably bad encounter with the Mobile Yak about 3 years ago. The soap didn't work/wasn't there in the men's restroom, either. This dump should close up soon to make room for a restaurant that doesn't deserve the empty parking lot that we found upon arriving at 5 PM and left at 6:30 PM. If you want a good experience of Indian cuisine, I recommend The Biryani Pot in Mobile. It is very clean. read more

Recently ordered a "to go" order because daughter wanted something from there and all the food we ordered was great. Ordered again a week later and it was excellent again. I ordered delivery through a third-party app. For 2 people we got the chicken tikka masala, saag paneer (cheese in a spinach sauce), garlic naan, and samosas. It was more than enough food for us. The samosas were our favorite part - lots of flavor, nice and crispy on the outside. The garlic naan was also very good. The chicken tikka masala and the saag paneer were both disappointingly bland. To be fair, we did not specify a level of spiciness in our order because I assumed that the default would already be kind of spicy - but there was no spice to either dish at all. Seriously not a hint of chili pepper to be found. Don't get me wrong - neither dish was bad, per se. But they definitely lacked a certain depth of flavor that you expect with Indian/Nepalese food. However, for the area, it's probably the best you're going to get! I wouldn't hesitate to eat here again next time I'm in the area, but I will know not to expect the best Indian food I've ever had :) read more

The food is great. In fact before COVID times this place was my favorite. The buffet was good and always a good lunch crowd. But that vibe hasn't returned at all. My daughter and I went at regular lunch time. No more buffet - that's cool. You walk in and are instructed to order via a POS at the front complete with a login password. Luckily I'm familiar with such systems and I did ok but still wasn't happy about it. Order placed. We go sit down. And wait, and wait, and wait, and wait. I have yet to see one employee. About 15min later someone brings out food and I asked for some waters bc there wasn't any other option for a drink. The food was decent which is the reason for 3 stars. While sitting there waiting in an empty, employeeless room 2 different couples walked in and saw the POS ordering situation and turned around and left. What happened here?? How did this place get so bad with customer service?? I don't even know how they're keeping the lights on, which is really sad bc it was awesome. It never had a giant staff before so not sure how they can't hire a few people and make all the difference to this once great restaurant. read more
