I ordered from Daruma last night and everything was delivered within 25 minutes and it was divine. Everything was fresh and delicious and the correct temperature. It all smells amazing when you open the carton and also has a nice presentation, especially for takeout. I had the miso soup, California rolls, ginger salad, steak and shrimp hibachi. I ordered my steak medium rare but with the drive time it cooks from the steam a little longer but that's on me for not having common sense Absolutely 5 stars for me and I look forward to my next meal to try out the restaurant. read more

I stopped in for a quick Bento box after a long day at work. The staff is always so friendly and the beef teriyaki knocked me it of the park. Perfectly cooked, medium rare steak drizzled in tangy teriyaki sauce I added two pieces of salmon Nigiri off to the side of the salmon was perfectly buttery and melted my mouth. We have been Uber Eats-dashing lately for Daruma bc I am not a fan of driving to Daphne- no offense, I don't like to drive to Publix and it's less than a mile away from our house in Fairhope. Last night we got the gyoza (always yummy), tried the Godzilla and Volcano rolls- DOUBLE YUMMY!!!- and ordered the Katsu Chicken. It was just a dry, thin filet of chicken without any flavor. We doctored it up with Schriacha and soy sauce (the sauce it came with tasted like vinegar) and it worked. But honestly, will not order again. This is such a great spot! We are never disappointed in the service or the quality of food. We have been coming here for years- my husband specifically has been coming here for over 10 years! The staff is so friendly, they are attentive & you can't really beat their 5 roll deal. The inside could use a little renovation but overall it's a great place to support. My brother suggested I try Daruma, because he loves the sushi. I tried it and loved it! I did not get the sushi, but the chicken katsu bento box, because I love chicken katsu. It was delicious-the chicken was crispy and well-seasoned, along with the bulldog sauce. It was tart and savory and went well with the chicken. The California roll that came with it tasted fresh and was a wonderful accompaniment. Even my dad liked it, and he normally hates fish! The service was great and our waitress was very attentive. NO SUSHI FOR YOU. I will admit when they brought this out I should have been like "wait that's a lot of food for 20 bucks maybe there's something wrong." Instead I was like "that's a lot of food for 20 bucks !!! out!" When they brought me the bill that was more than 3 times the price of our original order I explained that there was a mistake.. by their waitress not me. They wanted me to pay it all anyway. I politely but sternly stood my ground. They have a deal "pick 5 for 18 dollars." It's actually on one of those sushi menus where you mark what you want. We marked it on the paper specifically for the pick 5 deal. We actually checked what we wanted on that piece of paper. Should have been no doubt what we expected. But people make mistakes. The waitress said she would fix it and brought back the bill. It was still twice the cost of what we ordered. I politely but sternly repeated my assertion that I would not pay for more than what I ordered. She said she needed to go talk to someone ... but actually left the restaurant and never came back. I waited politely for 20 minutes and then went to the counter and told them again I was happy to pay for what I ordered but "I'm not sitting here all night so ring it up properly or I'll just leave." The owner (I believe) then handed me another check . Still like $15 dollars more than what we ordered. I asked him again to correct it and he finally handed me the correct bill saying "I'll do what you want but never come back again. Our waitress said she doesn't want to see you again and our waiters are more important than our customers." That's when I got a bit miffed finally and said "your waitress needs to grow a pair and own up to her mistakes instead of making others pay for them." Mind you, pre-Covid I would have gone defcon 1 at least 25 minutes earlier. But I understand it's hard to get employees and patience is in order these days. That's why I was polite and calm the entire time. And I was LITERALLY the only person in the whole restaurant in the middle of the dinner hour. So that tells me something too. Their customers don't matter. I understand people make mistakes. But when you make the mistake you pay for it, not someone else. And I'm happy to never eat there again. I will say also there is one waitress who is almost always there and has always been fantastic. This would not have happened if she had waited on us. Don't know if she quit but she wasn't there. Also I will say the 5 for 18 dollar deal is a heck of a bargain and why we went there. I probably would even go back but I think I'm officially banned. Love their all-you-can-eat lunch! They offer a lot of good stuff from soup, salad, hibachi, and sushi! When you get seated, they will give you a paper to mark which one you want to get. The service is good thought it takes time to get the food during lunch rush. Food Review and TIPS: I always start seaweed salad and gyoza (dumplings). Be mindful when you order gyoza because it has two options: steamed or pan-fried. If you didn't check either of the two, they will give it steamed. I looove their steak! Write on the paper how you want it cooked if you want to be specific so they won't forget. However, sometimes he steak gets really chewy but when they're fresh, it's soooo soft and melts in your mouth! The noodles are usually salty so I get teriyaki sauce on the side to balance the flavor. For the special sushi, it normally comes with seaweed wrap but if you want to change it to soy paper, it's additional $0.50 each roll. They have nigiri but NO SASHIMI. They have a lot of sushis to choose from too but I normally get one roll only because it makes me stuffed easily all the time! If I were to suggest anything for this place, I would love if they can also include ice-cream with it. This is a good place to dine. They have a special where you get 2 meals, complete with salad and soup, for $25. Drinks are an additional $2 each. The choices are one sushi roll or entree or box, with a decent selection from a limited menu. They also offer some sort of all you can eat special for lunch. The service is good. I had really high hopes for this place, I was pretty let down. The sushi was really loose and falling totally apart when you tried to pick it up. My husband and his brother said the teriyaki wasn't great, one got shrimp and one got steak and they both complained about how it was chewy and the flavor wasn't great. I had the ny strip-i ordered medium rare-and shrimp hibachi with vegetables. The vegetables were lukewarm, the shrimp was chewy, and my steak wasn't medium rare but more medium well. The portion of fried rice was small and not the typical amount you'd get at most hibachi style restaurants. Had I known this was what I'd get for 23.95 I would've passed without hesitation. My husband and I love to eat here. We eat here about once a week. We always eat the buffet. Usually (unless it's around Christmas) we can be seated and have our food within 10-15 minutes. We usually don't have a long wait. It isn't like a normal buffet, they prepare your food as you order. You get 4-6 pieces per plate. They have a ton of items to choose from. Very rarely do we get a waiter/waitress that is rude, usually they don't stay employed long. The rolls do have a good bit of rice, but that is to be expected for a buffet. They would lose too much money if they didn't. I can usually eat about 3-4 plates, steak, spring rolls, and 2 bowls of soup. The atmosphere is awesome and relaxed. I would highly recommend. I ate the all you can eat sushi. The worst part about the sushi is the rice. It didn't taste great and there's too much of it. Fish itself was so-so. I noticed a lot if the specialty rolls on the all you can eat had cream cheese. Took forever to get it good. Miso soup is fine, on par with other restaurants. Hibachi steak was good, so I'd imagine getting hibachi is much better than getting sushi. Would not recommend. Would only come here again if someone else wanted to. Not sure if there's anything better nearby since I'm not in the area too often. read more

I hate writing a bad review but I feel I have to for this. Ok so my best friend and I wanted to find a neutral place where I could have sushi and she could get cooked food. So we went here. Still no silver wear still no sushi. I ask for a glass of merlot, she repeats back cab I say fine whatever. 4. Two lady's get sat behind us (still no food) waitress gets their drink order and delivers wine, (still no wine) so I give up on the wine since she brings my sushi finally! 5. The food: filet was more med rare then med and fried rice looked pre made and not very warm. California roll was 80% cucumber and a small chunk of fake crab. Albacore was flavorless. Spicy tuna was good! Actually. And volcano was ok. I've had soooo much better. 6. Ask to return california roll, glassy eyed waitress says she is hungry and will I box it for her......REALLY?! Ok I boxed it and gave it to her but she couldn't even wait til we were done she picked it right up off the table....don't smoke and you won't get munchies and beg your table for food. Not to mention took her three trips to get boxes and did I mention never got my wine. WILL NOT return... read more

The lunch all-you-can-eat is killer awesome! Everything is made to order for only $12.50. Its super fresh and the best in the area. Highly recommended. They have tables and boths, so it's good for large or small parties. Lunch can get very busy between 12-1 so I wouldn't suggest coming on a short lunch break. read more

This was my first time here. Waiter did not know how to take order. After he came back and said that I cannot have what I wanted on the order I placed. He said that I could get it with Chef's choice for more money. After I agreed, he brought me a plate that did not have what I asked for.
