It is the same name so I am positing that they might be the same family? I am looking to thank the owners and management of the YALA Mediterranean Restaurant in Culver City which has closed. They always had the freshest offerings of ultra superb delicious Mediterranean foods and including freshest of fruit juices. It was so nice, too, to be a dog-friendly restaurant with an outdoor patio for that purpose. I hope to visit Yala Kabab Restaurant also. Sawani always delivers, we ordered chicken, lamb khabsa and had their chicken Mandi. Easily fed more than 20 ppl and we had left overs too. Didn't get a chance to try the food. We walked in, ordered and waited 30 minutes. Felt a bit discriminated against, Lady wasn't eager to take our order and gave us a look as if she was wondering what two non- muslims were doing in their establishment. People of their own race speaking their language ordered after us, were given place settings and got their food, and finished eating and we still did not get any attention or acknowledgement from the staff. The ambiance waan't too great either. They are too cheap to run air conditioning and it was hot and humid in there. Also when walking in there were flies flying around and a weak attempt at deterring flies was a ziplock filled with water hanging over the doorway via the balcony. With the hiigher prices they charge ($20+/plate) for food, one would think it would warrant a much cleaner, friendlier atmosphere. Save yourself the headache and possible food poisoning. Theres a better mediterranean place 2 minutes away with better prices, friendly staff, and clean. read more

I can't recommend this restaurant more! The food is absolutely amazing. We had the chicken kabobs and the chicken rolls. Wonderful flavor and perfectly cooked. The hummus was the creamiest my husband has ever had. They also had cheese rolls as an appetizer that were incredible (like fried mozzarella but on a whole other level. The desserts were delicious! One had coconut and the other had nuts in a pastry that looked like a wonton. And the service was exceptional! So friendly and helpful. Ok so this place is a little hole in the wall and I drive by it a few times a week. The Google reviews were good so I thought I would try. Man, this place was excellent. Pleasantly unexpected surprise, the food and ownership are one of my favorites. The owner is so warm and welcoming, bringing us complimentary delicious hot tea upon our arrival and having us sample a couple things from the menu without us asking and without charging us. The beef shawarma was good but the lamb kebsa was unreal! The kebsa was a flavorful spiced lamb and rice, which I plan on getting again when I go back. The portions are large the kebsa could feed two and the shawarma served as two meals for me. It's family owned and really charming. He also came around and had his customer sample arayes on the noise and it was SO good, getting it on my next visit. read more

It's located in a very isolated area. I went there on a Saturday night half an hour before they close they give me a table with no excuses. The service was good. The food was awesome. Food was very expensive for what it was. We ordered a sawani $22 plate with three different meats - chicken, steak and kafta. Chicken was dry, steak was over cooked and rough, kafta was ok. Garlic sauce was good but just as good as other places. We only got two half pieces of pita bread for a $22 plate. The food was freshly made though. Shwarma chx s/w was good. Kebobs of chx & beef were tender. Baba ghanoush was excellent. Garlic sauce was deliciously garlicky. My wife and I went here a few months ago and it was definitely worth it at that price point. We were going to go there recently and order the same exact thing but the prices have jumped nearly 200%! The baba ghanoush appetizer was about $5.30 and now it's nearly $11.00 . The food is good and the ambiance is great. The hospitality needs improvement but they were polite overall. I had worked as a cook for 6 years in Orange County, so trust me when I say this is a hidden gem and one of the best Arab/Middle Eastern restaurants in the county. Sawani House was originally called Aloosh Restaurant before changing ownership to a small family. They kept the original great recipes like the must-try Lamb Mandi and have expanded the menu. Really, it's like an upgraded Aloosh. You'll be greeted with sweet and spiced hot black tea. Order the Lamb Mandi, it has extremely tender lamb on the bone with a mountain of fragrant rice. If you don't eat lamb, get the Sawani Mix which comes with kofta, steak, and chicken skewers. I'm working my way through the entire menu and everything so far has been amazing. I really enjoyed the Middle Eastern food here. The chicken shawarma wrap with tasty garlic butter and pickle was pretty good. The mom and pop style restaurant was been only open for a week and super friendly. They offer free hot Bedouin tea. My wife had a Falafel Plate with tahini salad dressing was well done.
