Have you ever wondered what German pastry heaven would look like? Well, look no further, Yalaha Bakery is what you've been dreaming of! My husband and I have been searching for a German bakery since we both have a sweet tooth for baked goodies. He's been telling me about how legendary German goulash tastes since before we got married (it's been a few years now ) and the Yalaha Bakery menu mentioned seasonal soup including goulash so of course we had to stop here. We visited on a rainy Wednesday afternoon around 4:45 pm. This place has modest architecture and a small parking lot, but don't let that fool you since as soon as you open the door, there are 4 glorious levels of tasty treats under a refrigerated glass display and fresh bread in shelves behind the counter. There were about 4 customers in the shop and a few others that came in while we were ordering. Everything looked so delectable, so it was hard to choose from the huge variety! Our bakery order ended up being quite large, so I'm glad my husband brought the cooler with him. We got 1 rhubarb pie (for a gift), 1 rhubarb streusel (another gift), 1 apple streusel, 1 German apple pie, 1 tiramisu, 2 lavender shortbread cookies, 1 eclair, 1 cream horn, 1 Brazilian caramel bar, 4 pretzel rolls, and 4 large pretzels. There might be a few other things as well. The order was about $125 with tip. Excellent customer service by the counter girl, and she was very patient while we were deciding on things. After we packed our pastries in the cooler, we went back to check out the deli section. They had a lot of German deli items to choose from, but what I was really interested in was the goulash. The very kind counter lady (possibly the owner?) took my order, and I couldn't have asked for a heartier, soul-warming soup for about $6. The meat was cooked to soft perfection. The veggies (peppers, tomato, and potato if I recall correctly) melted away while you sipped the soup that tasted like it was made by your favorite extra-skilled German grandma. I was in stew heaven. Of course, I shared a few spoonfuls with my husband, and it was gone in a few minutes. All in all, we discovered that Yalaha Bakery is a hidden gem in Yalaha, FL. If you love bakeries and handmade treats like we do, this is a great place to visit. Prepare your bank account to splurge on pastries, artisan German bread, and remember to stop by the deli! We'll be back again next time we're in the area on one of our road trips. read more

I love the selection of sweet treats & bread they have!!! There is literally something for everyone! Considering there aren't that many options for sweet treats... I understand why they offer soo many delicious options! I had breakfast here the next day and a coffee. Not my favorite but the sweet treat are the best! You have to try the coconut treat, chocolate cake and the cheesecake. This cute German bakery is a gem. I drove out for a visit from Tampa (90 mins) with my mom whose roots run deep with German culture and food. She was over the moon and had the schnitzel with sour kraut and potato salad for lunch. Not many vegetarian options unfortunately for me. I got the house salad and quiche and massive pretzel. I loved the mustards and cheese sauce given with the pretzel. It's pricey and was $50 for this lunch. The bakery has mouth watering, difficult choices displayed in glass cases. My mom and I each got a piece of dessert after lunch. She enjoyed the lingonberry cheese cake and I liked the rhubarb streusel. I ordered several desserts to bring home to try with my family. And I bought two bags of day old pretzel rolls (30% discount). In total, I spent about $125! Not cheap, neat experience, and not sure if I'll make the trek back. read more

I was passing through from Howie in the Hills and passed by Yalaha bakery. I immediately turned around because I was very excited to see the original location. I've only ever heard about it, I'm never in that side of town so I knew I had to stop. They have a huge selection of desserts and other goodies as well as some savory options, but I was focused on the sweets! I got seven or eight items and spent about $35 which in my opinion is very reasonable for getting two boxes of goodies. I brought them to share with four or five people, and we all really enjoyed them. I think my favorites were the Alpine dessert and the honeycomb or bee bees nest? Something to do with a bee. It had almonds on top and it tasted wonderful, but it was really really hard to cut because of the hard almond toffee type layer on the top. I'm so happy that I was able to finally stop in and try this bakery that I have heard about for years! read more

I was in the area for a wedding and this bakery is the closest to the hotel. My sister went the day before and said the egg and cheese crossing she got was delicious and buttery and there were a wide array of pastry. She got a slice of the Black Forest cake and I thought it was ok. The texture felt mushy and it didn't taste chocolatey. For breakfast I ordered the bratwurst and a croissant. The croissant seemed to been toasted too long and the bratwurst was ok. My sisters said the egg cross isn't sandwich was not nice and buttery like the day before and the egg was overcooked . I tried the tiramisu cake slice and did not get any coffee flavour in the cake Or icing. The caramel macchiato was delicious. The service I received from both the bakery and deli were good. The bakery has all their deserts on display with the title of the item and the ingredients . The deli had pictures of the food that they offered . read more

This is a cute place to visit. A German bakery where all items are made fresh daily. And it gets PACKED! Heard about this place from a coworker and had to go try it out. We had lunch there and then got some baked goods. Overall everything was delicious! They do have a few tables indoors as well as a small patio area for eating your goodies there. Plenty of parking. The bakery is really the standout thing here. The chocolate is so good, rich, smooth, and yummy. High quality ingredients. The pretzel roll (we ate it before we even got a picture!) was really good too. Not tons of indoor seating, but plenty of outdoor shaded seating. 5 stars! The deli side is not bad, but nothing noteworthy. The ingredients are quality though. We might have given JUST the deli a 3 star. Mostly, we recommend checking this out for the bakery and sweets. If you're not located in Northwest Orlando, you might be thinking: is it really worth driving all the way to Yalaha just to go to a bakery? Yes, it is. Totally worth it. I'll say the food isn't mind-blowing, but the combination of the small-town feel, the house's architecture, the large green space (with live music) to sit and enjoy, and the traditional food (or at least as traditional as you can find in Florida) makes the trip worthwhile. My Bratwurst plate was very good, especially the sauerkraut, which wasn't too sour -- just like they make it in Germany. The desserts are beautiful and mouthwatering. I ordered the German hazelnut cake which, although enjoyable overall, lacked moisture and hazelnut flavor in my opinion. I want to go back to try one of their strudels (besides the traditional apple, they also have other flavors like raspberry -- interesting, right?). read more

We were on our way for our annual Memorial Day in Mt. Dora when we passed this curious bakery seemingly in the middle of nowhere. I turned around, found a parking space, and entered an amazing place. I'm sorry, no photos of the displays of lots of pastries and home baked breads. Just so many to chose from. Or course you wait in line, no numbers given, but everyone is so nice. We had some rhubarb creme thing and a poppyseed pastry. Enjoyed eating them in the beer garden. Took home an apple strudel for my husband. Everything was fresh, with fresh ingredients. My only complaints is that I think they are made for American tastes - much too sweet. I imagine there are different types of apple strudel. I'm used to a strudel that is solid apple slices wrapped in flakey dough. This one seemed to be some apple in apple sauce. It was ok, husband enjoyed. All was worth the stop. read more

Stumbled across this bakery by accident and it was the best detour ever! I ended up driving there the next day as well to try more pastries. Chocolate mousse croissant 10/10 so rich and smooth and i love how the mousse is slightly cold, kinda feels like im eating an ice cream and it's refreshing. Chocolate croissant 10/10! Ham and Cheese croissant is amazing too! 9/10 Oatmeal cookie is pretty decent too, nothing out of this world though. The pecan pie was pretty good. The coffee is also pretty good as well. The girls are super sweet and helpful, definitely very patient as well lol (i had a lot of options) the ambience is perfect too, i love the live music and the patio. everything feels super homey and cozy. read more

I have a lot of respect for bakeries because it's hard work and it's a true art form. A good friend of mine requested this German bakery to me and I'm really glad he did. We loved the outdoor seating and it was very relaxing. There was a small stage and someone was singing old folk German songs as people enjoy coffee, pastries and sandwiches. The large pretzel with mustards and beer cheese was very good, it took 2 people to finish it. Everything was tasty & freshly baked. The area where u order sandwiches looked like it can be updated a bit as far as aesthetics. The outdoor seating could have been a bit more cleaned up. Maybe we missed breakfast rush ? Was really looking forward to going here. Spent 3 years in Germany in army and I miss good German food. Key word is 'good'. It's a nice looking place and everyone is friendly. Pretty clean inside and out. First glance the bakery section is dynamite; all sorts of stuff. The deli is weird; you can order breakfast or lunch (they adhere to a very tight schedule. Was 6 minutes past breakfast so not an option). All the meat in the deli is prepackaged (made somewhere else). But I bought Nurnberger bratwurst and Landjaeger. Both were good. The wurst lunch I had was ok; wurst was blah. Sauerkraut was ok. Potato salad was nasty. And they burned the pretzel to almost beyond recognition. Bottle of beer was good. Bakery: loaf of bread was stale. Toasting couldn't save it. More burnt pretzels. Bought 4 pastries. Two barely ok; two lousy. Noticed a pattern: anything they didn't touch was good. Everything they 'made' was lousy. And this joint ain't cheap. I think they're counting on people that don't how good German food actually is. Look at the picture of the pastries. All needed sugar. We visited Yalaha for breakfast on a Saturday morning. When we arrived there was a huge group of cyclists there. We came to find out that it's a popular spot for cyclists (really bike-friendly area). Anyways, when you walk in, there is a huge bakery full for fresh breads and pastries. It is overwhelming once you have to narrow down what you actually want to order. We settled on a big slice of bee sting cake which was absolutely fantastic. We also got a loaf of cranberry brown bread which tasted incredible with some butter on it. Oh my. I still think about that bread and will definitely buy more when we return. We did go over to the small cafe connected to the bakery where they make hot food as well. We got two different plates, one was the Weißwurst, the other was the bratwurst breakfast. They were both outstanding, but we both agreed the bratwurst breakfast was superior. We want to return soon and try more of their baker and hot menu options. The one and only issue we had was there was a good bit of a wait after ordering our food, but I do believe that was probably because of that huge group of cyclists who arrived before we did. This place is amazing. The bread, the pastries the beautiful outdoor patio. Every kind of pastry you could think of my favorites are the carrot cake bars, almond croissants, and the apple strudel. They also have a deli, and I tried the Reuben and wasn't a fan of the German potato salad that came with it. But believe me, the bakery part of this establishment is the best. read more

On June 1st we went to Yalaha Bakery, got sweets & a loaf of pumpernickel bread, we live in Webster and stop when we go to the Dr. the bread was burnt. We went back to Yalaha Bakery today, I showed pictures of the burnt pumpernickel bread, the manager said to me that I had posted it on their web site, it was a couple of weeks ago and wouldn't do anything about it, not even replace the bread. What a great place off the beaten path. This place has an amazing bakery counter that makes it almost impossible to choose. We got a loaf of their garlic sourdough which has been great for sandwiches. We also tried the almond croissant, peanut butter cup, chocolate chip cookie and Bavarian croissant. I truly don't understand why this place is so popular. My Wife and I had lunch at the attached deli. Both had 1/2 sandwich and a cup of soup. Our sandwiches were uninspired and almost tasteless. Never again. Our meals seemed like what you'd eat at a prison cafeteria. Wife's onion soup was inedible. She complained, the bread was soaked and there was no cheese on the top. She tossed it in the trash. The lighting inside consists of harsh fluorescent like you find in a doctor's waiting room. Run, don't walk ... as far away from this establishment as you can. The dark haired, middle age Asian lady working the cash register is astonishingly rude and condescending. When issues regarding the behavior of staff are brought up to "management," they cut you off and are equally condescending. These people do NOT care about their customers, and lack basic courtesy. I highly recommend finding another bakery where the staff actually make you feel welcome. This one is not worth it. Will not be going back. read more

Yahala Bakery Unfortunately this past Sunday we stopped by your place for the first time. After visiting the inlaws nearby walked in and behind the counter you had all your sourdough breads I ask the girl behind the counter I was taking a chocolate sourdough located on your top row I watched her grab it place it in the bag I paid and the drove home 1 hour drive to Oviedo FL. to then find out after I slice it that it wasn't a chocolate sourdough bread but some sort of berrys and nut bread. Super disappointed as my wife cant have any nuts being allergic. I have been enjoying by my self but I post so this wont happen to any other customer in the near future. Also if your buying sourdough or any bread have them slice it that way you make sure you're getting the correct thing. We drove about an hour when we saw the listing from this place. My husband is from Germany. I will say, the place was very clean, and the staff was extremely friendly, but the food unfortunately, was not good. I liked my quiche and salad, but my husband's schnitzel/gravy were flavorless, the rote kraut was canned, and the spatzle was also dense and flavorless. Here are a few notes for you. Here are the rules which help everyone. 1. Upon entering move to the right of the bakery showcase where the line begins. Do not stand in front of the door where other people want to enter. Move close to the right side of the showcase. 2. Do not lean on the showcase and keep you greasy fingers off the glass! It's ok to point. 3. If you prefer sandwiches or other food first, walk in turn right under the arch and order. Restrooms are to the right when entering. 4. You can always get bakery orders after any other food as you walk to the courtyard. 5. If you would like coffee, order it at the bakery showcase. However, if you like to add sugar or cream tell them to leave half an inch or the will fill it completely to the top leaving no room whatsoever. 6. Pay at the register, to the left end of the showcase. Turn around and you will find coffee needs, straws, napkins and more. There are no napkins outside. 7. Exit the door in front of you to the courtyard with a ton of seating. 8. On occasion, probably mostly in-season, they do provide great calming musicians for your enjoyment. 9.The trash bin is located adjacent to the door you exited. USE IT. 10. We went here for lunch with a friend. I ordered the half-sandwich and soup, both of which were tasty. My wife ordered the Reuben on a cheesy pretzel bun, which she loved. It came with sauerkraut and potato salad, the latter of which she didn't like but I thought was okay. (Most good cooks like their own recipes the best, right?). Our friend ordered a variation of her sandwich and it came out differently but they were quick to fix it for her. Buying some bread had its glitches also. Our counter person was new and didn't know what kind of bread the day-old bread was, and also had a little difficulty with the cash register. That was fine as she was pleasant and patience is my middle name. The problem was that the person she went to with questions and who was presumably training her, was a rude and unpleasant person. Not just rude to her but to us. And here in all my years working service-type jobs, I always thought having customers was a good thing. Go figure. read more

A total bust. We were excited to have some "authentic German food," but the food was anything but German. The building is cute, with indoor/outdoor seating. That's the best thing about this place. The rest - the FOOD - was bad. Another couple there was heard to say, "The Germans don't know how to flavor their food!" I responded to him, "Yes, they do, but this food is not German." The desert display was incredibly beautiful, but very little of the options were German. We tried two items, and they were flavorless and just awful. At $6 a piece, you need to get something that tastes delicious. We only had a bite of each, and were disappointed. No sense in eating things that taste bad. The only thing good in the bakery was the pretzel, which was nice and soft on the inside. We also ordered lunch at the deli, which was hidden from view and we had to ask where it was. The Hunterschnitzel looked amazing, but the meat was far overcooked, dried and hard to cut. The "German potato salad" did not have the ingredients of a real German potato salad, and I literally had to pour off liquid. No onions, no mustard, no bacon, no flavor. Not to mention, we had two orders, and one came out a good five minutes before the other, so the first one was cold. The Spaetzle was pretty good, but the sauce from the schnitzel had zero flavor, so it did nothing for the noodles. read more

We happened to stumble upon Yalaha Bakery and it was kismet! We had heard the rave reviews from acquaintances but are not in the area often. Well, we will be making it a point to go ahead and visit the area a lot more. The Black Forest cake slice was so delicious; it was rich and moist, with fresh whipped cream and black cherries that were the perfection amount of sweet. The strawberry shortcake was just as delicious but with vanilla cake and strawberries instead. The bakery has ample seating and the ambience makes you feel as if you've been transported to Bavaria. I look forward to trying many more delicious desserts soon! read more

We drove 40 min because we really wanted to try this place and it was a very homie and very friendly environment they have a lot of seating which was great. Lots of fresh bread. Favorite was the Bavarian cream croissant, and their sandwiches were good as well. Their breakfast was good but wish they had bigger portions for the price. read more

I've been coming to the Yalaha Bakery for over a decade. Today, was one of the first times I ate lunch there. It was probably the busiest I've seen. I waited to order lunch while my wife waited to order pastries and cookies. I got the hunter schnitzel with red cabbage, spätzel and a side of sauerkraut. My wife got the chicken walnut cranberry sandwich. Everything was good, but the hunter schnitzel and fixin's were a little cold. This is a great place to ride your bike to, grab a coffee and then hit the hills of Lake County. You can sit inside or outside. It seems they have a German singer on Saturday afternoons.
