Extremely disappointed by my experience with Yale the Plumber. On two separate occasions, I scheduled appointments in advance and confirmed the day before, only for no one to show up and for my subsequent calls and messages to be ignored. While I can't speak to the quality of the work, reliability and communication are just as important--especially at this price point--and both were sorely lacking. On the first night of this whole Covid-Quarantine thing, our hot water heater sprung a leak and flooded the basement. At around 9pm on Friday, I put a request out on yelp for quotes. Yale responded with helpful advice immediately, was there the next morning quite early, and within about 2 hours he had fixed everything. He even had advice for how to turn the new hot water heater box into a fort for our kids. That's unbeatable service. Very reasonably and competitively priced, too. Yale came to install a (sold out) gas cooktop that we were lucky enough to find from a store that did not do installation. This was a tricky installation because we chose this particular replacement cooktop because it was the only one I found that was not too deep in height and would allow me to keep the 2 critical kitchen drawers below it. Yale showed up at 8am on Saturday and was done before this princess woke up! (My husband is an early bird, whew). There was a small issue when I went to put the drawers back in later that day. We contacted Yale and he said he'd come by Monday by 5. At 4:30, he showed up, changed the angle of some fitting and modified an already modified drawer insert and I have everything exactly the way I could only dream of when my old cooktop died a dramatic fireball death last week. Yale saved us time, money and sanity - at least 2 of those 3 are in short supply in this house. I called Yale in a panic because our water shutoff valve broke and caused a large leak. He rearranged his day so he could attend to our emergency. I very much appreciated that he was wearing a well-fitted mask and removed his shoes upon entering our home. We had a shower issue when we had a pipe freeze during the bitter cold. Luckily there was no major damage but our shower head stopped working and we could only shut the shower off with the diverter. I really liked Yale and he is an incredibly friendly person, but unfortunately he missed the mark when he did work at our house. He had some good suggestions for showers for a kids' bathroom, and that was definitely helpful. He was also very responsive whenever I messaged him. Unfortunately, I had to pay for multiple visits for him to not really complete the kitchen faucet installation. His apprentice installed a kitchen faucet, but it came loose within a week. Yale then tried his hand, it came loose again after a few weeks. He basically said it would be impossible to tighten it and I'd have to pay for it to be tightened almost every month, which is not sustainable, or buy a whole new faucet. He also said it would be impossible to install the accompanying dishwashing liquid dispenser. My mom got annoyed with the faucet constantly being loose and had her handyman come. He bought a part from Lowes and was able to tighten the faucet. He then removed the garbage disposal to install the dishwashing liquid dispenser without issue. The sink has been tight for over a year now. His apprentice installed multiple slow-close toilet seats/lids, and every one of them came loose within months; my husband followed the directions and re-installed them, they've been fine for over a year now. Yale also installed the sink faucets and shower head in a bathroom, and those have been working well, though the shower faucet is a bit loose. As I said, I liked Yale a lot, but it was just tough to pay so much money for incomplete work. read more
