LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!! Quick service and very friendly family owned business. They have a vegan sushi roll. It is the Sweet Potato Roll. We add avocado and cucumber to it BUT it is the only place I have found Sweet Potato as a sushi ingredient. The spring rolls are amazing as well. Tiny and cooked to perfection. The bento box is one of the favorites. It has all the items I want. The Hibachi chicken is a family favorite. They are very reasonably priced. Tuesday and Saturday is 30% off sushi which is awesome. I hate to do this, but I'm afraid if I don't let anyone know, nothing will be done about it, so here goes. There was a roach in my soup. My boyfriend, who grew up right behind the restaurant, said the space was notorious for roach problems, no matter what restaurant came through. I ignored and we went anyways, and there it was in my already halfway eaten onion soup- a full sized roach. The staff was very embarrassed and apologized and let us just walk out. We didn't make any kind of scene, neither did they, and I was very thankful for that. But still. A roach. It made me sick and lose my appetite. read more

I just moved to Jacksonville, and had no clue where to get sushi, so I went to Yelp. I'm so glad I did!!!! First, the service was exceptional, and the sashimi/sushi was very fresh! I had the Godzilla and Yamato roll and it was delicious. I would like to add that I've been a Sashimi connoisseur, for 10 years and I have learned that IF you can smell fish, turn around and walk back out of the door! I would give this place 0 stars if I could. Throw the whole restaurant away and start over. They had us at the prices...we love hibachi. We decided to check them out during lunch. The place itself is a bit run down but it's in an older neighborhood so we gave them a pass. I ordered filet and chicken and my husband ordered filet and shrimp. For starters they don't have yum yum sauce which should have been my cue to leave (but my husband wanted to stay). You cannot be a Japanese restaurant and not have yum yum sauce...that always burns me up. Our filet tasted worse than they toughest sirloin. The folk barely went in for me to even pick up a piece. It was so chewy I wasn't even able to chew it to eat it. I tried 3 pieces and was unable to eat it. And to make matters worse...the rice was crunchy. THE RICE WAS CRUNCHY! What the heck?! And it wasn't just a few pieces of rice...it was the whole batch on both my and my husband's plate. We were unable to eat the meal. We left and ended up going to McDonald's bc we were hungry. First impression when my wife and I walked in tempted us to turn around and walk right out. The restaurant has unfinished floor that is an eyesore and very low lighting throughout. We decided to give the place a try and were seated by a pleasant waitress. Our menus were tattered and held together with tape. My wife had to look at my menu to see a section that hers was missing. The food was inexpensive and bland. The sushi was garnished poorly with what looked like mayonnaise. The salad had a sour taste and the fried rice had a large chunk of onion skin in it. I ordered 2 sushi rolls and onion soup. The soup was ok and the spicy tuna roll was ok too. The Yamato roll was nasty! The salmon was very fishy and did not taste fresh at all. I told the waitress and she spoke to the sushi chef about it. She returned to my table with the check and asked if I wanted to have them remake it for me. Uh, no! This place is SUPER cheap. My husband and I have lived in Japan and this place is NOTHING like the Japanese cuisine in Japan. probably because it's CHINESE people making it! We both ordered bento boxes. He ordered the chicken teriyaki bento-- it was literally stir fried veggies and chicken drenched in soy sauce. I ordered the shrimp tempura bento-- it was like store bought pre-battered shrimp that they just refried. They both came with California rolls, a fried spring roll, miso soup, and salad-- The California rolls were mediocre, the spring roll just tasted like oily fried mush, the miso soup was way watered down, and the salad came with a choice of dressing: ginger, yum yum, or ranch. We got the ginger and it tasted like watered down thousand island dressing that they added ginger powder to. The "yum yum" sauce is NOT "yum yum" at all! It tasted like honey mustard and mayo and oil. Yuck. Should've just got ranch dressing. We also got the rainbow roll-- literally the California roll topped with salmon, yellowtail, and avocado. Our whole order literally came within 5 minutes of us placing our order! I mean talk about fast service but it's probably because everything is pretty much pre-made and NOT freshly made. The only reason I'm giving this 2 stars is because our server was extremely nice and attentive. He even shared the confusion of Chinese people making japanese food. On evening of 3 May, 2013, after my daughter received an art award, she wanted to eat Japanese soup called Udon. So I took my family to a Japanese steak and sushi restaurant called Yamoto. Unlike other Japanese restaurants, surprisingly this restaurant didn't serve udon. With disappointment, my wife ordered the shrimp bento, I ordered the teriyaki shrimp and scallops, and my daughter ordered the Godzilla sushi and Miso soup. When the waitress brought the soup, it was unbelievably salty. Because our family lived 8 years in Japan, we know what Miso soup is supposed to taste like, so we asked nicely to switch to onion soup. The waitress came back with miso soup and said she tasted the onion soup and it was also salty, so the cook made new miso soup. This soup looked nothing like miso soup and tasted like rotten fish. When we told the waitress about how we thought the soup tasted, she said she wouldn't change to the other soup or make new soup. My wife and I ordered food sets that were supposed to come with soup and salad included in the price. Because they didn't want to serve the soup that we paid for, we asked to deduct the soup price. The waitress refused because she said the soup comes with main dish which meant it is free. We said we ordered the set, so we paid the higher set price; therefore, if we couldn't have soup, we should pay less. The waitress became upset, raised her voice and told us to call the police. She went to the other tables and talked to them about what happened with us very loudly in a mocking way. We asked to settle this matter with the owner but she said the owner couldn't speak English. They were all Chinese and the waitress was also the manager. We realized we couldn't solve this matter with them because the only waitress we could talk to had a very strong Chinese accent, so we had to ask her to repeat herself many times and she spoke angrily at us. So we paid our bill and left. When we go restaurant and pay, we pay for good food and good service. This restaurant has neither. The food was terrible and the service was ridiculous. I wish Yelp could give this restaurant negative stars, but I had no choice... We will never ever go back to this establishment...Never! read more

Went in yesterday evening for the first time. My boyfriend was excited about it, told me he had eaten there for years. I ordered a house salad, fried rice and the Yamato roll. The rice tasted bland, yet burnt. Practically inedible. My Yamato roll was so crunchy that it hurt my mouth to chew. Not to mention it tasted of nothing but grease. My boyfriends food was amazing though. He ordered the yakisoba and whatever roll came topped with eel and avocado (I can't remember the name of the roll). Service was fantastic! Delicious and affordable! We started with 2 sushi rolls, which were both good. I ordered the scallop and chicken hibachi and my husband got the beef and chicken hibachi. They came with a salad and soup. Our son got a dinner bento box with teriyaki beef that came with a California roll, soup, salad, and fried rice. Then we shared a tempura banana for dessert. Everything does come to the table very fast, but I don't think anything is pre made because you can see them working at the hibachi grill at the front of the restaurant. I don't expect this place to be open much longer. The restaurant had potential but the owners are running the place into the ground. You kind of get the feeling that you are eating in a construction site. They never finished the floor... it's not very appealing. The lighting is also unusually dark. Not sure if they just can't afford better lighting or they just don't want you to have a better look at the facility. The management seems to completely ignore basic upkeep. Their menus are tattered and worn and held together with tape. Some of them have menu selections that are completely torn off. What kind of attitude must you have towards the business if you are giving guests such an unappealing menu? How hard is it to just replace the worn menus? The lack of care is evident throughout the establishment. The food its self is fairly inconsistent. Sometimes it's good and sometimes it's not. I have noticed that a particularly unprofessional employee is never there anymore. Hopefully they let that individual go because he was bringing a lot of negative attention to the business. In my opinion this restaurant suffers from poor management, not poor business design. In the hands of professionals this place could probably do much better. The location doesn't exactly do the place any justice either. Miss your exit heading north and you won't have the opportunity to turn back to it until you reach the next city. You will also pass up several tempting alternatives while making the trek back. I give this establishment 2 stars instead of one because there is a possibility that I will eat here again. The price is right and it makes for a quick and cheap take-home-meal. Their line of Bento Box meals are their saving grace. read more
