However yesterday we tried their other restaurant in Santa MariA and was a wonderful experience. Show was fun and entertaining and the food was wonderful. Nothing looked fresh. We ordered a couple rolls, the Negiri combination and chicken teriyaki bowl. The chicken was so gross. Looked like it had been microwaved and hAD ZERO TASTE. Ordered oyster roll. It was basically tempura no oysters. For $13 total rip off where's the oyster? Ordered ramen, it's basically .60 cent packaged ramen with no meat, sold for $9.95. Also had sushi the pieces were small, wasabi was old and dry, soy sauce was watered down with no flavor. It had to be really old (yes I've had lite before). I feel ripped off coming here. I was underwhelmed. This was a pick up order that I had placed. The good thing was It was ready in 10 minutes. I ordered The Pismo roll because I love yellowtail and the Super Salmon Roll. The Pismo roll costs 18.50 and sadly it was not what I was expecting which I had hoped for was good fat pieces of yellowtail on this roll, instead I received very small thin pieces. Some looked like they were split in half. Totally not worth the cost. The Super Salmon roll cost 15.95 and was definitely not super and rather sloppy. Both rolls had dente rice, not what I prefer in a roll. I was also surprised by the size of the rolls which were on the small size. There was nothing special about either roll. This sushi place was just ok for me. The service wasn't spectacular, and the place was empty (red flag), but we had friends visiting and they wanted sushi, and this was the only place that was 1) open and 2) didn't have a long wait (another red flag). We walked in and just kind of stood there. No one came out to seat us, heck, we weren't even sure the place was open expect for the glowing neon "open" sign that was still lit. After a little wait, someone came out and seated us. The menu was a little confusing to me, it was half pictures, and half just menu items with no description, so didn't know what was in half the rolls. (I'm a new sushi eater so this may be my fault but how am I supposed to know what to order if it doesn't have descriptions.) We placed our order, and the items came out as they were made. The food was good. There is better sushi and rolls at other places, but this was fine. We kept having to flag someone down every time we needed something. Otherwise, I would've given 4 stars. Maybe we just went at an odd time, it was 7:45 on a Thursday. I did notice they had a lot of to-go orders so maybe it was just a stay-at-home kind of night? :) Their sister restaurant is way better and we love going there. read more

Our day has been ruined after had lunch food from this place. We picked up the food and the food were cold. My teriyaki chicken combo was a joke. The portion was small, chicken pieces were tiny and dried. Other pork lunch rice bowl was even worse. It looked like a kid rice bowl and we paid 16$ for that little box. One piece of shrimp is all that came with the tempura udon for $18.95. My husband's Nabeyaki Udon was not much better. Just a tiny amount of chicken, one piece of shrimp and one mussel. Been going to this place for years but I will never go back after today. I ordered the Oak Park Roll and substituted the salmon for tuna as I am allergic to salmon and white fish. When I got home my roll had no cucumber or avocado on it and had some white fish on top. I called them and instead of an apology or any accommodation the server started to argue with me. It's been a while since I've been here for lunch and was disappointed with the quantity of food provided with their build your own 3 choice lunch for $19.99. I had teriyaki beef, sesame chicken and spicy tuna roll lunch and the beef was paper thin, there were 6 very small pieces of sesame chicken and a normal size spicy tuna roll with about 8 pieces. She had a 3 entree choice lunch as well and we even had potstickers and walked out of there hungry still. Don't get me wrong, it tasted good but there just wasn't enough. With drinks, I ended up paying about $75 for the 2 meals. Service was good but nothing spectacular. At most restaurants, when you pay $75, usually you walk out with food you couldn't eat. My wife and I enjoy vacationing in Pismo Beach and when we do, we try to stop by WOW YANAGI SUSHI. We were there in February and stopped by on a Monday around noon. It was not crowded inside. We were greeted as soon as we entered. Our waitress was a Japanese woman, INJA S. She was a very competent server. We ordered the 2-item: salmon teriyaki with chicken teriyaki and the 2-item: salmon teriyaki with tempura. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and was hot. The portions were fine. Both dishes were very good. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the tempura was fluffy and lightly battered. I asked to swap my soup for extra rice and was accommodated. We decided to eat at WOW YANAGI SUSHI a second time on this trip and went back the following Thursday at about noon. Once again, it was not very crowded and we were greeted as soon as we walked in. The same waitress served us and this time we ordered the 3-item: salmon teriyaki, chicken teriyaki and 8-piece California Roll along with the same 2-item: salmon teriyaki with tempura. Once again, the food arrived in a decent amount of time and was hot. Everything was good, as we had expected. The California Roll was fresh and tasty. This time, INJA S stopped to make small talk with us about where we were visiting from and other pleasantries. Later, a Japanese employee from the sushi bar or kitchen, must have noticed we arrived in an Acura. He was obviously a car-guy as he stopped to chat with us about our car. We didn't mind either person stopping to talk with us, as we were pretty much done eating. It was nice to have the employees show some interest in a couple that returned to eat there twice in just four days. There are restrooms at the location. My wife said the women's restroom has a table with chairs which makes it a convenient place for women to place their purse or other things. On our first visit there, I noticed the soap dispenser was empty in the men's room and mentioned it to the waitress. She said she would have it taken care of. Sure enough, the soap was refilled on our second visit. Kudos! There is plenty of free parking. We will surely return in the future. read more

The California roll was horrible and Costco's sushi is way better than this. They gave us enough food for one person and we both left hungry. We complained to the waitress when she asked how we liked it and she just said, "I know, I know" and gave us the check without another word.
