My wife and I are from the SF Bay Area, so we've got really high sushi standards. We came here every Sunday for years because of its location and it's passable sushi. What made us stop coming, though, is that the service has become intolerable. 5-10 minute waits just for somebody to acknowledge our existence and to bring our menus, 10-15 minute waits for our food, and no water refills had become normal. I thought quite a bit what Sushiya reminded me of and it gave me that college Japanese restaurant vibe and I think that's pretty accurate. It's not high end and after eating their food, that's what I got out of the experience. Firstly, place is big. Waitresses were friendly and nice. The sushi chefs at the sushi bar DO NOT say "Irasshaimase" when entering. We got as appetizer- spicy grilled edamame. 5 stars. Small portion but had a nice kick unique to what I've had. Unagi 2 piece ($7). 5 stars- no complaints. Maybe a thin cut was fine with me Super Dragon Roll ($10, normally $19.99) - was a cali crab meat plus shrimp tempura with unagi on top. 3 stars - I liked their sticky rice held the sushi together. Middle of the roll pieces had very little crab meat and shrimp compared to the ends of the sushi roll where the tail of the shrimp tempura ends. Not bad but very Ricky. Chicken teriyaki combo - 3.5 stars. Vegetable tempura had one shrimp, one onion roll, one yam but could be two. Decent but nothing special. The menu said charbroiled but I was expecting something else. It was chicken breast meat. And thin cut- sauce was nice and thinck but longer you eat, the sauce gets more thick and sticky. Not the best teriyaki Wife had the salmon teriyaki Overall, it was an okay place. Nothing wrong with the meal. Hadn't been in here for a couple of years and was pleasantly surprised. I always liked them for their cheap lunch boxs before, but previously was underwhelmed with their dinner. We stopped in for dinner with our daughter. She was excited about the sushi and the seaweed salad, but most importantly really enjoyed the fish tank. The place is nice and open with pleasant decor, and you can see the sushi bar easily. I ordered off of the 1/2 price rolls menu since it used to be a decent deal even though the rolls were smaller... well boy was I wrong this time. My first roll was the paradise roll and it was HUGE. It was basically a sushi roll with a sushi salad on the side. The staff was friendly, the food was really good and fresh and the value is great! Our server was busy handling front house and to go orders and should not have been waiting tables in addition. It took 45 min to get miso, half our food arrived after and hour, and after an hour fifteen when we still had not received rest of our food we got up to pay and leave. We watched other tables who had ordered after us receive their food before us as well. The two rolls we did receive were heavily loaded with imitation crab and if that's how you like it, then this place is for you. Overall disappointing. Bang for your buck! They're located inside the same plaza as the dollar store and CVS. Plenty of parking and you can enter from the back or the front. They have this so-called yellow menu and basically, you get the rolls 50% off if you spend a minimum $15. You buy two rolls for $20 essentially and it ranges from baked sushi rolls to regular rolls! I don't believe there's a restriction to when since we came in on a Sunday night for dinner. We ordered the spicy salmon baked roll and the deluxe roll! Both very delicious and they did not skimp out on the filing. We also offered their dinner special, the beef teriyaki, it came with rice, California rolls, salad, miso soup, and tempura. My partner and I ate here for the first time on a Saturday night. We walked in and were promptly seated. Our waiter brought our beverages shortly thereafter. We ordered an appetizer to start and it was brought out within 10-15 minutes. We followed that up with the Sushiya Boat (pictured). This took a bit longer to arrive but it well worth the wait. The boat included 5 types of sashimi, 6 pairs of sushi pieces, two sushi rolls, seaweed salad, and cucumber salad. It also included miso soup which we received before our appetizer. The miso soup was good and hot. The Sushiya Boat had very fresh fish all the way around. The service was a bit slow at times; but overall it was acceptable. We came at 6:15pm and thought it wouldn't be too packed. They did have alot of to-go order. No one came by to tell us our order was still coming. So when it got close to 7:00pm, we were debating whether to leave. We waited for 40 minutes for just two rolls. Value for Price : 5/5 We ordered from the 50% off yellow menu. This place is great when you're trying to do sushi on a budget. Wait, what? Sushi on a budget? Sounds sketch... not this place. They have a "yellow menu" that has everything 1/2 off all the time. It's not super diverse, but the food is good. I've been going there for years and the service has sometimes been good and sometimes been pretty slow and painful, but that's what you get when you have a bunch of college students cycling through. Like some other sushi restaurants in town, they also provide a yellow menu. However, I loved the deals before but because of inflation, the prices has gone up. Yoooooo. My partner and I have recently been on an Udon kick. We each get a small cut roll (usually salmon or yellowtail) and then an order of tempura udon. Sushiya did not disappoint. The individual cut rolls were fresh and large (only five pieces but MUCH bigger than a small, six or eight piece roll). The udon was hot, flavorful, and full of that good umami taste. The tempura was crisp and not too greasy (you get a piece of shrimp, onion, zucchini, carrot, broccoli, and squash) to dip into your soup. The soup itself is full of vegetables like mushrooms, shredded carrot, and more. The broth is subtle but full of flavor and the noodles are perfectly cooked and hearty. Udon is seriously slept on -- it's mega filling and the warmth of the dish leaves you feeling satisfied. You should try it out. Also, the service was quick and the restaurant was clean. It was quiet, not too loud, but definitely had a steady stream of customers for a Sunday night. This could definitely become our go to for udon here :) read more

AYCE was pretty yummy but the rolls kept falling apart. The salmon kama was kind of dry which I didn't really like. I think just getting nigiri is the best bang for your buck. If you order a shit ton of sushi you get a boat which is pretty fire. The service was pretty quick and I was able to stuff myself. I placed an order on June 25th for 2 yellowtail sushi rolls, an order of nigiri and an order of gyoza which all was very subpar. The entire gyoza order was cold, not even warm or close to it.. as if it had been sitting for more than 10 minutes. The yellowtail sushi rolls were very poorly rolled to the point that they starting to unravel as I picked them up and on top of that the nigiri order turned out to be a sashimi order that tasted VERY bad. I called and spoke with Erin, a server, and asked for a refund to which she said "she can't process refunds but her coworker can" so in confidence I left the phone call at that and waited 4 days only to see no refund and when I called back another individual told me "only the manager can process refunds but she hasn't been in, in a few days." When I initially asked to speak to a manager I was given the runaround and was told "they're not in right now and there's no way for us to get ahold of them" and today when I called back I was told a different story. The quality of this sushi establishment has drastically gone down hill and it's a bummer that they can't even honor an immediate refund. Well priced and has some excellent Korean dishes like Bulgogi Beef. They have a roll menu with EXPENSIVE rolls that you get 50% DISCOUNT if you spend above $15, so that's cool. I had a deep fried Salmon Roll filled with spicy tuna and avocado. My other roll was 911 and had tempura shrimp, spicy tuna + avocado and cucumber with nice sauces. They were essentially $8-9 rolls so it all works out. In the future I'd try their Special or Signature rolls to see if they are a step above these 50% off rolls. Our server was super attentive and made good recommendations. He had blonde dyed hair and was taller and thin. Kept tea filled and took plates away. These lunch waiters work hard and bus all their tables. Hard working staff and you never felt it from them. Good energy here. Gyoza was good and dipping sauce had some heat. Not sure if homemade, but fried well Edamame was well salted and came with side bowl for empties. The wasabi looked s little hammered or had some fresh horseradish mixed in. Ginger could ya e been fresher too. Otherwise food had no glitches. I thought their pricing for dinner, combos were fairly priced. All the Bento Box lunches looked well executed. read more

This review is based on several visits. Not because I think it's any good ... it is not. Dining inside is a stressful experience because the wait staff is utterly confused. Take-out is a disaster because the food will be guaranteed to be cold and stale, again because staff can't coordinate what comes out of the kitchen. And let's talk about what comes out of the kitchen. Don't let me hold you up waiting for the bottom line ... the food is abominable, miserable, and sucks. For example, salmon teriyaki looks like a piece of pink frozen hamburger patty, drenched in sweet grocery store sauce. It comes with wilted iceberg lettuce and hard rice. Try sushi? No, don't. It will be old fish. Try a popcorn lobster roll? Sure looks good, but it contains mostly fried breaded mystery fish that tastes like no lobster I ever tried. Several years ago, it was an average fake Japanese restaurant that I would have given 3 stars. Now, it truly deserves to be slammed. If you doubt me, go inside. Look on the wall to the left, and see a row of wall sconces (lamps). Most of the bulbs are burned out, right? What kind of filthy dump other than Sushiya would not bother to change light bulbs for months? That tells you how much they care about their food or their customers. read more

Although there is nothing spectacular about this place, I frequent this business for one reason and one reason only - their yellow menu. Everything on this menu is half off and they have some great selections on there. 95% of the time I order a few handrolls off this menu and I am satisfied. My go-to's are salmon, yellowtail, and tuna. I have gone with some friends who ordered one of their more done up rolls and they seemed to have enjoyed it. I typically get my food to go, but the few times that I have dined in - I have enjoyed my experiences. It came as a double decker, the bottom compartment with rice, tamago, and shrimp; the top had the mother lode of sashimi: tataki , yellow tail, salmon, maguro, snapper AND ikura. I gave the hubby 6 pieces of sashimi and I still had plenty. Hubby had a salmon bento which came with salad, spicy tuna roll and tempura. Both of our meals came with miso soup (a bit on the bland side, needed more miso and dashi) but the rest of the meal was great. They also bring you edamame to start.
