Hadn't been in here for a couple of years and was pleasantly surprised. I always liked them for their cheap lunch boxs before, but previously was underwhelmed with their dinner. We stopped in for dinner with our daughter. She was excited about the sushi and the seaweed salad, but most importantly really enjoyed the fish tank. The place is nice and open with pleasant decor, and you can see the sushi bar easily. I ordered off of the 1/2 price rolls menu since it used to be a decent deal even though the rolls were smaller... well boy was I wrong this time. My first roll was the paradise roll and it was HUGE. It was basically a sushi roll with a sushi salad on the side. The staff was friendly, the food was really good and fresh and the value is great! We will be coming here more regularly for sure.

5 Stars to the service and friendly customer service. The rolls are huge! A lot of rice. They were good. Clean place. Good vibe. Prices are amazing. That 50% off on the yellow menu was on point.

Absolutely amazing food. We came in closer to closing than we'd prefer and everyone was so kind regardless. Good price, great sushi

Bang for your buck! They're located inside the same plaza as the dollar store and CVS. Plenty of parking and you can enter from the back or the front. They have this so-called yellow menu and basically, you get the rolls 50% off if you spend a minimum $15. You buy two rolls for $20 essentially and it ranges from baked sushi rolls to regular rolls! I don't believe there's a restriction to when since we came in on a Sunday night for dinner. We ordered the spicy salmon baked roll and the deluxe roll! Both very delicious and they did not skimp out on the filing. We also offered their dinner special, the beef teriyaki, it came with rice, California rolls, salad, miso soup, and tempura. Such an amazing deal!

This is a place where you get a bang for your buck. They have a menu where you get 50% off any of the items that are over $15. The most expensive item on the menu is $19.99, so you're basically getting everything for $10 or less. The restaurant was clean and the service was quick. It's not fancy by any means, but it's a decent place to go for a quick bite to eat.

My partner and I ate here for the first time on a Saturday night. We walked in and were promptly seated. Our waiter brought our beverages shortly thereafter. We ordered an appetizer to start and it was brought out within 10-15 minutes. We followed that up with the Sushiya Boat (pictured). This took a bit longer to arrive but it well worth the wait. The boat included 5 types of sashimi, 6 pairs of sushi pieces, two sushi rolls, seaweed salad, and cucumber salad. It also included miso soup which we received before our appetizer. The miso soup was good and hot. The Sushiya Boat had very fresh fish all the way around. The service was a bit slow at times; but overall it was acceptable. We would definitely return again.

Food/Taste/Flavor : 4/5 Rice was a bit hard and smushed; didn't have the texture of sushi rice. Relied heavily on their sauces for flavor. They cut back on the more expensive ingredients in the rolls. The tempura was soggy in the roll. Good wasabi not grainy. Presentation was great and beautifully rolled! It is more americanized so the sauces are pretty heavy - a bit too sweet. Definitely hits the spot though and fulfills your sushi craving in SLO. Ambience : 3/5 - sticky tables and old-looking chairs. Dark with christmas lights. Not a uniform theme to the interior. Definitely more americanized. There is faint music playing in the background. Loud enough to hear but not loud enough to enjoy. Service : 3/5 - They prioritized an elderly couple who must've been regulars. They actually got their food very quickly. We came at 6:15pm and thought it wouldn't be too packed. They did have alot of to-go order. No one came by to tell us our order was still coming. So when it got close to 7:00pm, we were debating whether to leave. We waited for 40 minutes for just two rolls. Value for Price : 5/5 We ordered from the 50% off yellow menu. And they didn't tax and tip on the original price at the end of it. Overall, their rolls were strongly flavored but it truly satisfied my sushi cravings - just don't expect the topnotch Japanese restaurant qualities in major cities.

Didn't know I was getting a whole salad for a roll. It was alright, but way too messy. Thanks for my lettuce with a side of sushi

    Tempura Udon

Yoooooo. My partner and I have recently been on an Udon kick. We each get a small cut roll (usually salmon or yellowtail) and then an order of tempura udon. Sushiya did not disappoint. The individual cut rolls were fresh and large (only five pieces but MUCH bigger than a small, six or eight piece roll). The udon was hot, flavorful, and full of that good umami taste. The tempura was crisp and not too greasy (you get a piece of shrimp, onion, zucchini, carrot, broccoli, and squash) to dip into your soup. The soup itself is full of vegetables like mushrooms, shredded carrot, and more. The broth is subtle but full of flavor and the noodles are perfectly cooked and hearty. Udon is seriously slept on -- it's mega filling and the warmth of the dish leaves you feeling satisfied. You should try it out. Also, the service was quick and the restaurant was clean. It was quiet, not too loud, but definitely had a steady stream of customers for a Sunday night. This could definitely become our go to for udon here :)

It makes a busy open space intimate. If you want to sit at the sushi bar make reservations or roll the dice. There is nothing quite like watching a chef dedicate their entire service to you. That's the Omakase experience we had. The restaurant was busy, but the team running the show outside our service was a well-oiled machine, and I could tell other diners were enjoying their meals. But what we experienced was on another level. Course after course was assembled in front of us. I love to cook, so watching and engaging was really special. Learned about every fish, salt, oil, cut. Just spectacular. They were also very kind. A few folks celebrating birthdays, including myself, and they doted on us in a major way. Truly memorable.

What's the old saying... First time, shame on you, second time, shame on me?…read more I've tried this spot twice now and both times have been a major disappointment . First time, build your own sushi rolls... Kinda weird and I spent $30 to have to buy dinner somewhere else shortly after... Second time, ordered the chicken yakisoba and a blue crab roll (California roll with real crab).. Yakisoba was $20 and literally looked like a kids sized meal.. good thing I bought the blue crab roll for $15 that I had to squeeze out of a weird plastic roll... Both tasted good, but definitely not worth $35. Again, had to buy dinner somewhere else .. Let's try serving meals that are appropriately sized with less weird gimmicks...

No complaints at all about the staff or the meal. The problem came afterward. After we finished eating, we decided to walk downtown to meet a friend at a nearby restaurant before heading back. We got back around 12:45 PM and my car was already gone--towed from the restaurant's parking lot. Technically, there is a sign posted in the middle of the parking lot that says no parking between 11 PM and early morning hours (I think 7 or 8 AM). But the sign is not easy to notice unless you walk right up to it. It's not visible from most spots in the lot, especially at night, and it definitely wasn't clear enough to warn customers who just finished dining there. I totally understand if a business needs to manage non-customer parking, but towing paying customers right after they finish eating--especially with barely noticeable signage--felt extremely frustrating and really put a damper on the night. Great restaurant, great staff, really good food... but the towing policy and poor visibility of the sign are something people should be aware of before parking there. $645 to take it out that same night...

All-You-Can-Eat sushi with a 3 tiered menu or order a la carte…read more I came in on a random Tuesday afternoon so the establishment wasn't too busy but there was consistent traffic off individuals coming in and leaving. The space was clean and tidy, not a ton visually to note. The staff was friendly, attentive, and seated us immediately. They took the time to explain how the all you can eat menu works as it was our first time there, gave us a few moments to decide while they brought us water, and then took our order with the chosen menu. Quick efficient and organic interactions The menu was pretty extensive ranging from vegan rolls, nigiri, tempura, baked rolls, appetizers and more for 90 minutes. If I were to go again, I think I would consider the menu slightly differently. I either ordered a lot of may and dairy items or that those ingredients were used frequently through the rolls we ordered. I will say if you like that kind of creamy, then you'll love this spot. For me it was a bit overwhelming and made for a slightly "sick" experience of sushi over a "fresh" one.

I am not one to give one a bad first opinion without giving them a try so I had to come back and I did. Once again I was pretty disappointed, not only with the good but as well as service. They took an absurd about of time to come and just get our drink order an once they did it just got worse. Took them even longer for us to be able to place some appetizers in. Once we finally got both... disappointing we ordered some jalapeño bombs, they were the tiniest things ever. Two jalapeño's cut in half to make four pieces . They completely forgot about us for almost the rest of the night. There was a group of three who sat in front of us and we watched as they received all their plates. Once our server finally came around to talk to us... it was her telling us if we wanted anything else because it was last call. We mentioned yes we still wanted to order actual plates. She looked confused and completely shocked and replied that " oh you guys wanted to order food " as in she thought we only wanted appetizer and drinks. Which was pretty upsetting considering we did not get checked up on once since we had gotten our appetizer and drinks. (yes we tried waving them down and looking for them to get some food in) We have finally received our food and well pretty decent nothing crazy to them, very small amount for the price as well they weren't wrapped up nicely. Each piece would fall apart pretty quickly. Just left dissatisfied and disappointed as well still hungry. We also were rejected on being able to get the all you can eat bundle because it was too "late ". While we had a table to our right who was doing so as we were sat down. We still ended up leaving before them.
