Stools at nice big table for a larger group

The great is the Greek fries. Wonderful, but we didn't know we had to add the lemon juice that was in the bag, so we ate them as we drove home with oregano only. Still hot and wonderful. Now, the gyro with $5.00 of extra meat was not excellent. In fact, I will not eat there again. I feel like we got scammed. We got one gyro with extra meat because the two of us were slightly hungry so we wanted to share it. In the photos I tried to show different angles so you can judge if you think there is extra meat. The sauce is also so full of garlic I could hardly eat it and I love garlic. The dining room was nice. There is enough room for a large crowd so I was looking forward to bringing friends. But, that won't happen now. I don't understand how a restaurant can be that cheap. Our total for the gyro was $13.00. That should get us more meat.

We tried Yannis Gyros last night. I have to say that I totally enjoyed the experience. Not just the food, but the ambiance as well. As we approached from the parking lot, I noted to my trusted copilot that you can't see inside. Having read a few negative reviews among mostly positive I said "we're going in!" What a treat this place is! I love taking a step back into time. The atmosphere is clean, friendly and well-lit. We thoroughly enjoyed the gyros baskets. I chuckled as I gladly paid the 25 cents for a refill on my Coke. My girlfriend tried to make me save some of my fries but I said "No, I'm having a very nice time and I'd like to finish them." I'll end this review with the photo of the throwback seating that encapsulates the quaintness of Yannis Gyros. I loved this place!

Let me start off with a little disclaimer; If my wife did not absolutely love her gyro this would be a lower rating! The place is filthy dirty, the service was non-existent and my food was average at best. We arrived before they were "staying open but only allowing to-go orders" but the people who ordered right before us were allowed to stay and eat. My wife's exact words were "the food was amazing the service was crap". The local clientele rave about the gyros which is great but at some point when you are hanging all these local awards on your walls maybe take a little pride in your business (the awards are white the walls are stained yellow)...

Gyros taste the same as every other place. Processed meat, processed sauce (lol if you believe 'homemade.'), frozen french fries. Nothing special. read more

I stopped in Yanni's specifically to try the Gyro horseshoe - and it was awesome! Everything from the pita bread, meat, fries, to the cucumber sauce -- there was even a sprinkle of fresh parsley on top -- was excellent. I highly recommend it and will be back again. Horseshoe lovers give it a try! read more

I never had a Gyros till the day I walked in and said Hi to John and Fisherman in the back. John and Fisherman are very nice people and will talk your ears off as if you were in a barber shop which is awesome. Yannis Food is the best Gyro style food in Springfield period. I have had the pleasure of meeting the whole family the wife the kids and mama too. Each and every time I go into the store I am greeted by first name and engaged in a conversation each and every time. John comes out to chat personally with you while you dine. The spicy Gyro extra meat, Gyro Shoe, Greek Style fries ( minimal lemon juice ) everything served there is good. The store is also a pre sale ticket stop for PWA ( Pinfall Wrestling Association ) which is my wrestling company here in Springfield IL. John and the kids are huge fans and come to every show. Stop in get a Gyro get a PWA ticket and say hi to John. OPA!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

MMM MMM MMM I LOVE LOVE Yannis. Every time I go the food is amazing! The Greek fries are cripsy and tasty. I have tried several things, and every one of them has been amazing. A surprising find. If Gyros aren't your thing, steer clear, but if you are craving a deliciously authentic version of the original Greek fast food meal, this is easily the best I have had. The Greek fries are quite good too, but you HAVE to get a Gyro if you come here (duh). The only pita sandwhiches I have enjoyed more than these Gyros are doner kebabs found in select restaurants in a few European countries, but this is as good as I have found on this side of the Atlantic. read more
