Yasai is unfortunately closed and now operates under "Inari." I placed an online order for pickup. When I went to pickup my order, the woman working was very dismissive and told me to use the tablet. I clarified I was picking up an online order. She waved her hand at me and said "oh I don't know." I again said I already ordered and was picking up. It wasn't until I pointed to my order (that was sitting on the counter with no lid) that she understood. All in all, service was extremely rude. This is a tough one. To start, the layout of this place is unfortunate. The menus are on large boards behind the tables. So, if are sitting at the tables eating, people are staring at you (or through you) to look at the menus - not comfortable. Why are the menus not displayed at the order counter? Makes zero sense to me. I was sitting at a table waiting for my food and I had to get up and move, to avoid people staring at me, as I blocked their view. Awkward . . . Awkward! Moving on - order at the counter and they bring you the food. This is not a table side service place. When I ordered, the person behind the counter wanted to charge me $5 extra, to ensure that my $26.00 Red Ramen was spicy. When I questioned the charge, they seemed genuinely embarrassed that it was so excessive, and to me relief, they removed it. Over all, this place is expensive. As mentioned, my Red Ramen was $26.00, and the Yasai Bowl is $30.00. The most expensive Ramen bowl at Daikokuya is $21.50 (Spicy Miso). In the end, my Ramen, Spicy Tuna Roll and a can of Coke, was over 50 bucks, with tax and tip . . . ? However, the Ramen bowl was not bad, and it was indeed spicy. The broth was flavorful with some nice heat. The pork chashu slices had more fat then I would have liked, and the egg was still quite cold. The noodles were fine. Certainly not the worst bowl of ramen I've had. The Spicy Tuna Cut Roll was a bit loose and fell apart when I picked it up, but the pieces were on the larger side, which was nice. There is potential here. I just wish they could make the layout of the dining room better. My husband and I ordered 1 ramen, 1 udon, tempura shrimp, and 2 water bottles and our bill came out to $80. Portions were way small. The pork chasu for the ramen was 80% fat and salmon somewhat dry. The wait was ridiculous because at one point there was nobody in the FOH for like 5 min. So i did mention it was mostly my mistake because i have alway ordered my entree the way i do and there was never a mistake. So i kindly asked to switch to the entrees we wanted. The cashier said that there will be a extra charge for the ones we wanted. She was 'playing' with the computer and then said they would need to charge for the full price on both plates. I have never heard any restaurants say that. So ultimately decided to the cancel the order on the spot and left. I called and ordered the exact same way to the Cerritos Location. Got exactly want we wanted and it was $33. it did leave with a negative impression because idk where she got 56 dollars for 3 entrees, because the one she presented , when i looked on the menu showed the same prices. The food is not YASAI food anymore. I used to come here for years. The interior decorations are good. The service is great but the food has changed big time. We ordered our standard unagi dragon and beef combo plate. The unagi dragon rolls were dry, tasted dry and totally different from the original, no thick sauce over it, very thin layer of eel unlike before or on the picture on the wall, also the eel didn't taste smoky and greasy as before. Total waste of money. The beef plate combo is the staple dish for YASAI. It was disappointing to see they have totally changed the good thing they had going for years and substituted everything to the point that it's hard to call it that same dish anymore. There was a veggie skewer - they now give greasy tempura. That was awful. They had great 2 sides of Japanese dressing light salads - now they have inedible mixed greens covered with CORN! and a pitiful amount "a sprinkle" of a dressing. The other original cabbage salad that was my favorite is now reduced to 3 forkfuls bite size. Even the beef amount is so reduced and they put cabbage underneath it to make it look like there's more volume of beef than what it is. Absolute waste of money. Unlike the Cerritos location for YASAI (this was the original location and we used to be one of the original customers since the beginning), this location has changed into a completely different nasty food restaurant. I have noticed that every Yasai I go to has different ways of preparing their Vegetable roll. The Norwalk location, this one, has a great taste with the pickled radish pickle and sprout add on. You also get a side of salad but no miso soup. For the price compared to the other restaurants, you get much more for your money somewhere else. 5 pieces of roll when at other locations you can get 8 pieces plus a HEAPING amount of salad and a free miso soup. Don't get me wrong though, the service is amazing. Staff are excellent! The mood of the whole place was...lonely. I think I saw one other person come in? And this was my first time stopping by. Very disappointed experience... They have changed ownership or just don't care any more. I ordered the spicy pork plate. The miso soup was bland, tasted like some rinse out the container to make the soup... The spicy pork had no camelization, and not spicy... The salad was still wet, that thinned out the salad dressing and had everything swing around in the shallow plastic tray that it was served in. I give them credit... they used iceberg lettuce to prop up the rice and the pork to make the plate look like bigger portion. The ambience was like a storage room, stuff stack against the walls, they removed the drink dispenser and change the tables and chairs. The dining area was warm and humid. OMG the ramen is soooo good! I've always liked them but the new management with new menu items has leveled them up. I met a friend here for dinner. We both ordered ramen and garlic edamame, and took our seat by the front door. During our very enjoyable meal, a moth decided it was out for revenge and kamikazed right into my ramen. I was about 3/4 of the way done. I was bummed. I took my bowl to show the cashier and she was probably just as mortified as I was. I asked if I could get new broth, an equivalent amount to what was in the bowl, and some noodles. She happily obliged. In fact they went way above as they handed me a bowl about half way full. I was very grateful and required a to-go container. Afterwards, I needed to treat myself to some strawberry mochi which she happily took care of as well. I insisted the generosity wasn't necessary but she was sure it was on the house.
