I am always amazed at how consistent and delicious each of the Yats across Indy are. The food always comes out piping hot and brimming with flavor. The Cajun creole bread is addictive and I always wish I could get a Po boy with that bead. This yats is located inside the strip mall and is smaller than other locations i have been to. However the space is very bright and airy and does not feel cramped. I like the way the bar faces into the kitchen so That if you are dining alone you can look at the action while eating. The staff is friendly and seem to enjoy what they are doing. I get a good feeling eating here, on top of enjoying the great food. They have several beers on tap with an emphasis on local IN brews. They sell wine in little airplane wine bottles, as well as a full selection of tea and soft drinks. If I could change one thing about yats it would be to add Po boys with that delicious bread. Otherwise Yats will continue to be a fantastic place to eat in Indy. read more

Need more stars to rate Yats truthfully! Living out of state (as mentioned in other reviews previously...sorry) there was a handful of Indy places that I craved on a weekly basis. So much that the wifey and I would fantasize about past meals and good times...Yats was at the top of this list. I can truthfully say that in all my travels I have never encountered anywhere else that is like or compares to Yats. This place definiley resides in a warm corner of my soul (and stomach!) I am a huge believer in the whole "you either love this place or you dont!' and for the people in the latter catergory...i'm not sure what your deal is :)?!?! I have followed Yats around like the Grateful Dead. My first exposure to Yats was their (now defunct) Brownsburg location (the wifey and I actually went there on one of our first dates many moons ago.) This is where I was exposed to their simple concept and excellent food. Once this location closed its doors, I began venturing to other locations in search of my etouffee fix. I have since tried the Bloomington (closed I think..) mass ave, college ave and Carmel locations. All of them very consistent. After moving back to Indy, I was floored to see there was a Northside (Trades Point) location now opened which is very close to my home base. I take much comfort in knowing this and think that maybe...JUST MAYBE this will help with getting me through this frigid Indy winter that is fastly approaching. Excellent food! It's what brings me back every time! My favorite is the chili cheese etouffe with crawfish. It's always a generous portion and, as with all entrees, comes with toasted french bread with a seasoned butter spread. Delish! The only ONLY reason I subtracted a star and kept it out of 5 star status is due to a lack of cleanliness the last few times I've visited. In each case, I ended up having to wipe down a table myself. Normally if a place is slammed, I will totally overlook that. I've worked in the food business, I get it. However, in each of the said visits they were not swamped at the counter or in the back. On the contrary, I could see the workers congregated and chit-chatting in the back (kitchen), ignoring the overflow of trash and the abundance of dirty tables. Will I come back? Yes! This is one of my favorite Yats locations, mainly due to the draft beer selection. I have drank many a Dreadnaught at this location. I really love this place. We dine-in at the College Avenue location, but this restaurant was great too. Hot, tasty food. Very friendly staff. Very clean restaurant. Good atmosphere, lots of seating. I came in to try for lunch. The staff is very nice and allows you to try any flavor you would like before you order. They also have a pretty good selection of hot sauce, some a lot spicier than others. I tried the half/half, which allows you to get a plate with 2 flavors and a piece of bread. Chili Cheese Etouffee with Crawfish was definitely the better of the two flavors. It was creamy and had a hint of spice. I enjoyed this but if I got an entire plate, it might get a little tiring. The Drunken Chicken was okay, I feel like some of the other flavors will be better. It is a nice break from the regular lunch, but it is not something I crave. The real reason I came here is because I saw that there was ghost pepper powder here, unfortunately I did not see any in the hot sauce station.. maybe another time. read more

This is a strip mall lunch place. The food is tasty and not very expensive. Jumbalia was heavy on the rice but good for the price. Drinkin chicken was also heavy on the rice but very flavorful. I had such a hard time ordering my lunch from here because there was so much to choose from and everything sounded good. I ordered the half and half plate and decided to go with the chili cheese etouffee and the spinach & mushroom etouffee. The chili cheese etouffee had that chili cheese taste that you wouldn't think would go well with crawfish but they executed it perfectly. When I couldn't decide between two of the entrees that I sampled, they said I can mix and match -so that's exactly what I did! Staff is very kind and generous we got there 3 minutes after closing and instead of throwing out the food they opened up the door and let us not only order but they gave us extra bread and some other thing they were going to through out but instead added it on to our order FOR FREE!! If a restaurant offers a specifically designated "vegan option", I'm pretty easy to please. For only $7.50, you get a generous spread of chili on a large plate with two pieces of cajun bread (which, by the way, is ALSO vegan). As a girl with a healthy appetite, the "full" serving fills me up rather well, although it always leaves me craving more of that amazing bread. Actually, I find my mouth watering just thinking about it as I type... Every time I visit Indy, I try to make it a point to hit up this Yats because they pretty reliably always have the vegan option available. Casual cajun food available as dine-in or take-out, but if you have the time, be sure to dine-in. Just waited no less than 5 minutes, standing directly in front of the counter person. This young man never acknowledged my presence, and actually continued to talk to people around and behind me. Not once did he make eye contact or even say 'hang on a moment'. After standing there awkwardly being ignored I turned to leave. I got the half and half, genius! , of the creole chicken and the chilli cheese ettouffee and I also tried some of the drunk chicken. My personal favorite was the chicken creole but all of them were just delicious! So much flavor for so little money can't get any better. I really liked the vibe and decoration of the restaurant.
