Not a bad place for a quick lunch or dinner. I've heard so much good things about this place, so I had to try it out. You go to the cashier to order and there's a chalk board with list of food and beer on tab. I tried 4 things out of about 10 things on the menu. I only liked 1, which was the drunken chicken. Other ones I've tried were either too creamy, too fishy or too smoky. Drunken chicken reminded me of the Indian food that I had, it had little bit of spicy to it. The portions are big enough and for the price, it was worth it. I would come back if I'm craving Indian food ish food because it's cheaper here. I also didn't think their garlic bread was good. I love that Yats has expanded from their original South Broad Ripple (SoBro) only location, to spots all over the city. I am certainly guilty of hitting each and every one of them, LOL. This place is heaven. Yats has mastered the Cajun/ Mardi Gras vibe in this restaurant. There's plenty of space to sit and enjoy your meal with friends or family and there's a bar with around 6 seats if you're dining alone. They allow free samples so you can make sure you enjoy the meal you order, but honestly I haven't come across anything I haven't loved. They have vegetarian and gluten free options. My favorites are the maque choux, vegan white bean chili, chipotle alexio, and of course the garlic toast on the side is heavenly. I don't eat Yats very often but when I do I always enjoy it. My husband really loves it and I forget this locations exists and it's less than 10 minutes from our house. We came in on a Sunday afternoon and it was fairly crowded. The vibe is super fun. Lots of New Orleans style decor. You order at the counter and then you pick up from a window. I got a half order of the drunken chicken and it was delicious. It's my idea of comfort food. I wasn't sure what I wanted so I asked the employee at the counter if I could try the drunken chicken (I hadn't had it in probably a year) because I couldn't remember if that's what I usually got. A visitor to Indy, this was my first time at a Yats restaurant ... I was very confused about how it all worked, but I was with work colleagues and they'd been here many times ... I don't know if I could have done it without them! The menu looked great, though to be honest I didn't understand much of it, and had to ask a colleague to order for me. Okay, I hate to say anything bad about Yat's because I LOVE it, but the layout of this Yat's makes it quite difficult to move about the space. The food and service is as excellent as any location I've been to, but I'll seriously consider coming back to this location simply because of the logistical nightmare it is to get from one end of the store to the other. When you walk in, the counter is dead ahead on the left. There are bar stools wrapped around it, and these people become your buddies while you're in line and they're trying to eat. When someone gets their food (or needs a drink refill) they also get to walk back and forth, meaning two lines of traffic are trying to fit into a tight spot. Again, the food is fantastic and the staff couldn't be nicer. Heck, they even serve beer and take credit cards here, unlike some of the other locations. I just think whomever came up with the design and layout was probably mad at the world the day the plans were drafted, and this is their payback. read more

In spite of my fears that even Yelper's kids may not be able to get past the look of a sloppy light brownish mass on top of a plate of rice, the young generation poked at the carefully separated piles, produced happy "Mmm!" sounds, piled crawfish étouffée on top of rice and then went for seconds. Must be a start of a "happily ever after family takeout" fairy tale, especially with Yats coming closer to the suburbs. I must admit that the first time I wandered into Broadripple Yats and looked at the sloppy plates that seemed to be distinguished only by a shade of brown, I questioned what all the hype was about. It only took a couple of bites to get it. The spice that is an "extract of warmth" with smoothness of cheese and chunks of crawfish made the world seem a kinder, older, warmer place. Sweet tea and a couple of beer and wine choices look carefully selected to complement the food. I can never say enough good things about Yats. More of a casual atmosphere for sure but the food is delicious and the portion sizes are huge.
