This is one of those stores that I could probably spend a solid hour or two just looking around and reading ingredients of some of the foods. This Persian Market is situated right next to Yekta Kabobi - it's sister restaurant. I've had great great experiences at the restaurant next door. And this visit to the market was in line with that - punctuated by wonderful service as well as well as some awesome finds. I will say, my bill did come out to more than I thought it was gonna be. Some of the stuff I think was a bit pricier than I expected. BUT, the store is very clean. The produce looks extra fresh, and they have a really wide variety of products and brands. For instance, I was just browsing around and saw like 5 different types of vermicelli. I ended up getting a Pomelo and a giant fruit roll up for myself. But I was actually there to grab Persian candies, which (they didn't have the WIDEST selection), but the ones I ended up with were very good! Can't wait till when I have more time to browse around a bit more. Also... can someone please tell me what halva is? Or when it's eaten. They have a lot of halva... and I feel like I've may have had it before... but was confused. I'd love to learn how to make some Persian dishes... (Sahar R.... wink wink). LOVE Persian food. I feel like I truly could eat kabob's on the daily. And the restaurant next door was where I had my first Joojeh Kabob and fell in love with it. It was sooo good! And sooo tender! I'm Persian and from Virginia, so I've been to Yekta quite a few times with my family over the years. The other reviews from Persian people are pretty spot on. Cons: - The cashiers/owner's are not friendly. - Prices are somewhat higher than other Persian/middle eastern grocery stores. - Food tends to go bad very quickly. Pros: - Ample parking. - Have Persian items that are sometimes hard to find elsewhere. There used to be a restaurant attached to the supermarket, but it's since closed, as others have mentioned. The grocery store expanded and now occupies that space. Overall, it's not perfect, but I'm sure I'll be back because it's convenient for me to stop by on the way to visit my family. read more

The supermarket offers a variety of Iranian and Middle Eastern products, such as meats, nuts, dried fruit (figs, barberries, etc.), a modest selection of fresh produce, packaged candies & desserts, some readings, and a bowl for nuts/mix for bulk purchasing. While the selection is somewhat extensive, the prices are definitely on the higher end, compared to other Middle Eastern grocery stores (like Halalco). Fantastic place. A polestar for any serious foodie. Number one buy: fresh Bulgarian feta by the block. (Bulgarian feta is the working class version of what you get from Greece, and is much more noticeable in salads than bland feta from France. Yekta has all three.) Vinegars, oils, pickled veggies, and rare fresh fruits from the Middle East. The place is a relief from the moment you step in the door: an oasis of tastes and smells that take you far away from Wisconsin Avenue, into another world of pleasures. So far, having been there several times (both when they had the Restaurant attached to the Supermarket or now that they are combined & there's practically NO Restaurant.. Only "Take Out") I have noticed the attitudes of the Sales people (don't care whether they are owners or employees) has gotten worse increasingly over the past two years. As if their outrageous prices for some items (like Teas) which I used to get from couple of places in Virginia quite a bit less wasn't enough, now people (and I must say it wasn't just me, I noticed other people/shoppers were rolling their eyes witnessing the poor customer service) are more and more opting to drive all the way to VA in order to do their shopping instead of MD... and that's Sad! No more Take outs! No more putting up with these prices on top of the substandard service... I will drive the extra 15 miles to VA and will do my shopping there. read more

I enjoy coming to Yekta as they have many of the ingredients or produce needed for middle eastern cooking. Their fresh produce is also nice as it is reasonably priced and fairly fresh. They have middle eastern cheeses and yogurts that are sometimes otherwise hard to find at other places. The staff are friendly and welcoming and are happy to answer questions if you need assistance. I also love that parking is fairly easy and not overwhelming. I usually find a space within close proximity of the shop. I can't wait to visit again. I am always excited to find a reason to visit the market. read more

Pretty expansive store, but I just looked around and didn't make any purchases. The store was quite busy, but fun to navigate through. The staff, I felt, could have been nicer. One of the customers in line was clearly trying to make conversation with the woman running the cash register (I was in line to ask a question about whether they carried any traditional caps for men.. Yekta Supermarket is right next door to Yekta Kabobi Restaurant. But the market is so great that it really needs it's own listing (plus, it's separate). I was searching for barberries, and Sahar told me this is the only truly Persian market in the area. The first section is the produce section and guess what the first thing I saw was? Barberries. The produce section is actually decent-sized and the whole store is reasonably priced. The Sadaf spices here were way less that the ridiculous price I paid for them in DC. In addition to all the Persian ingredients/food you may need, there's cookbooks, toiletries, hookahs, etc. I bought some pita and baklava, and when I got to the counter, the very friendly cashier told about their special custard dessert, which they only have on Fridays (I didn't buy though). Yekta is great, and I highly recommend checking it out. read more

I bought: -super paper-thin lebanese flat bread in the fridge section -2 containers of labneh for a at-home labneh taste test -some zaatar spices I went home happy. My favorite appetizer at middle eastern restaurants these days is labneh, and I'm so happy I found a supermarket that stocks so many kinds. I'm still working my way through each one to see which one I like best. Now that I know labneh only cost ~$3 for a medium container, I don't think I will be ordering it at restaurants anymore! read more

I loved this cute little market! It also had a restaurant next door if you want to check it out. It is a small place but it is super clean and well organized. In the front they try to get you with a bunch of tasty snacks in the front. My poor wallet was begging me not to spend all of my money. I suggest you get the olives (SO GOOD) but there is also a section in the back that has a ton of bread (my poor diet). This place is small so its not going to have everything that you want. specifically in the meat department. this is more of a produce place. But, I definitely suggest going there! read more

I first came to Yekta a few years ago with a Persian friend. We had dinner at the Yekta Restaurant next door, which served the best hummus and olives I have ever had. Plus, the restaurant offers kabob entrees (beef, chicken, lamb, or combinations) and sandwiches served with tomatoes, pickles, and parsley. In the market, there is a big bowl of nuts right as you walk in. A lot of the items are written in the Farsi language, and their reading materials read right to left, opposite of the norm in this country. It is a small market, I would compare it to a corner store, not quite a Safeway or Giant, but more than a 7-11 would offer. As I walked in, there were copies of the Tehran Post, and some cards for a Persian Summer Festival in Bull Run Park, which I unfortunately could not make it to today. read more

I like the groceries here, however, I've realized after 7-10 trips, it's not my imagination, the lady at the cash register has a problem. She is super rude, throws my fruit into the bag, made rude comments for no reason whatsoever. If she has no reason to comment, she just gives a very cold mean look my way.
