Some people may love this place. I would give it negative stars for bad, rude and incompetent service, and lousy food. Began with my order. A few simple items. The cashier repeated the order to me - all wrong. I told her again and she showed attitude, hit the order screen with a scowl on her face and walked away as I was paying with my iPhone. I waited and another cashier came along asking if she could take my order. I told her I had already paid, so she looked at her terminal screen and spun it around for me to leave a tip. I felt obligated so I left a tip to the order. We then went to our seats - an uncomfortable "park bench" on the sidewalk, inches from the curb with screw heads sticking out of the wooden seat. I had to do into the street and manipulate into the hard bench seat. The food was delivered. My was scrambled eggs were not scrambled, were cold and were hanging off the edge of the plate. My waffle was smothered in cold whipped creme thay even covered the pqckets of butter. My coffee was not brought out and I had to go inside again and ask the rude cashier. She handed the coffee to me and, after I asked, where to find the creme and sugar. My food was cold and tasteless. I ate the poorly presented eggs but not the cold, soggy waffle. I picked the strawberries out of the mountain of whipped cream and left the rest. My coffee was never refilled. I honestly felt like throwing up!! I will never dine in this place again. I had a morning wedding ceremony at the Malaga Cove Library last year and chose to have a quick lunch reception at the Yellow Vase café since it was just down the street (~2 min walk). We rented out the back patio and room for an hour. Originally we wanted the Yellow Vase to be a quick "latte hour" break for our guests while the library gallery room gets turned into a reception space but our plans changed due to Covid. We downsized the wedding from 40 to 15 and ended up with a simple brunch reception instead. The chicken crêpe would definitely not impress a Parisian. It arrived to the table barely luke warm on a very uncrowded Sunday afternoon. The creamy sauce was on par with some of Campbell's canned soups. The accompanying 'salad' was a handful of arugula leaves, nothing else at all, which had turned brown at their cut stems with a tablespoon of dressing drizzled over it. Patrons order at the counter, grab their own water in a disposable plastic cup, the waitress brings your food, and does not reappear to ask if you want anything else or clear away dirty dishes in a timely fashion. I love the Yellow Vase overall, but I think environment-wise this is my least favorite location. If you have an extra 10 minutes, I recommend driving up to the Malaga Cove location because of its outdoor seating. I think the Redondo location feels a bit cramped in comparison. However, I will say that they are very consistent with their food at each location. My go-to order is the Monte Cristo. It's definitely a very filling meal since they give you two so I recommend splitting or just dealing with the food coma afterward. I would recommend this dish to those who are sweet and savory fans - the combination of the French toast bread, ham, cheese, and some syrup is heavenly. I also tried their mini lemon meringue pie. I was a bit disappointed because the crust seemed a bit underbaked or was sitting there for a long time. The filling itself was very delicious and super tart. read more

Love how unassuming this breakfast spot is. It's a casual cafe that's beautifully decorated with lots of cheerful yellow and floral details that are very inviting. Friends and I went on a recent Saturday morning and had no wait at a time when I thought it would be hard to get in anywhere. Great location, and as far as the Riviera goes, mostly reasonable prices, but pretty forgettable food and service! Yellow Vase is casual and welcoming, set up almost like someone's house. You pay up front at the counter for drinks, pastries, and food, and they bring your order to your table. It's a great place for brunch with friends - you don't have to hassle with splitting checks or venmoing, and you can order a tasty drink while you wait. The drinks are good in my opinion; their lattes are awesome and they offer several alternative milks, but they're very pricey for the sides, even considering the location. Their pastries are ok, but not memorable. Their food is also okay, but not anything to write home about. You can get standard breakfast items here, but I've never been impressed by the food. The service is pretty bad. Maybe it's because of the setup for ordering, but I've never talked to anyone friendly. Several parts of our orders came out at very different times (our meals came before our coffee drinks?), and when we asked about this, we got no more than 3-word responses. Asking questions about menu items is fruitless. I think this place is in a perfect location and is set up in a convenient way for meeting brunch pals, but some necessary improvements could easily make it a 5 star experience! read more

Just had the smoked salmon plate and didn't think it was worth the price. Pretty disappointing actually. Although they were pretty generous with the amount of smoked salmon they put on the bread, what turned me off was that they literally just threw pieces of salmon on cold bread, dressed it up with capers and onions, and some cream cheese on the side. The sandwich was sad, especially for a spot like Yellow Vase. My chai latte, on the other hand, was hot and delicious. Service was okay. Ladies in front are friendly enough and efficient. I do wish they were more accommodating, especially if it was just as simple as giving me a bigger cup for my water (I drink A LOT and they give out 6 oz water cups which is literally 1 gulp for me). The lady flat out said "No we don't have bigger cups," that would've been fine but they do have larger cups for smoothies and to-go orders. Couldn't you just give in to the thirsty customer? I came here to meet a girlfriend who was staying in Redondo from Chicago for the weekend. It is a chill and cute, intimate space. Particularly in an area that has ALOT going on outside. From the venders, to the tourists, the homes that seem to be positioned one on top of the other, this place is a nice respite. I always like the DIY water tank. The staff is kind and welcoming. I ordered the brioche French toast and it was ok. I do wonder why one would make French toast without vanilla extract. The flavor was definitely lacking. The almonds did not add anything. The chicken Panini with pesto sauce was particularly good, the fruit tart was perfect, and the latte presented in a cup and saucer was ooh la la. The three stars because the vegetarian omelette was just okay, and even though the ingredients were of good quality the omelette just didn't have the necessary sauce/cheese to bring the flavors together. The potatoes on the side were a major disappointment and it felt like eating rubbery erasers - they were not grilled or roasted but boiled I think. We stopped into Yellow Vase today to pick up a few paninis to go. They didn't have a menu outside so we had to slip inside the doorway to take a look at what they had. Menus were on a table inside the door. The store was empty and quiet when we first arrived, but by the time the kids had figured out what they wanted to order, about 15 people had crammed themselves inside and there was a line out the door. So much for social distancing. The staff were wearing masks but there was no sanitizing person or crowd control. After we ordered, it took probably another 20 minutes to get our food while we waited outside in the parking lot. We took our paninis down to the beach. Forks & napkins were included in the bag. The Chicken Sandwich was probably the best item we ordered. The bread was nicely grilled with chicken, artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes and their special sauce, as well as a nice little side of baby greens with their balsamic vinaigrette packaged in a tiny little container so it wouldn't get all over the rest of the box. I wasn't as impressed with the Curried Chicken panini... it seemed kind of plain after tasting the chicken sandwich. My kids loved the California Chicken panini and the Kids Grilled Cheese. The Grilled Cheese came with a little side of bananas and strawberries, which she appreciated. The family seemed to enjoy it so I think we will be back. read more

Great little French cafe in Riviera Village! We stumbled upon Yellow Vase on long holiday weekend Monday morning after being turned away from another local restaurant with a long wait. We had no trouble finding a seat at a large picnic bench outside (plenty of indoor and outdoor seating) where our puppy was able to join us. The ambiance is bright and welcoming and the charming French music just sort of draws you in. The breakfast menu is quite large with full meal and smaller pastry options but I would love to see a few more vegan options. I found my avocado toast (vegan if you ask them to swap the eggs for tomato) quite delicious but was hoping for a nice warm oatmeal or muesli with fresh fruit or even a vegan pastry (none that I saw). They do have soy milk for espresso drinks. The 3 others in our party were not vegan and very much enjoyed their meals as well (all looked super yummy). We will be back and would recommend! read more

Cute place in Redondo Riviera. Great for brunch, lunch, or a pastry. I prefer the scrambles, and the crepes. Indoor and outdoor seating, very quick service, and rather helpful staff. I was not a huge fan of the brewed coffee, but they make up for it with large portions, good food, and a wide variety of other beverages. Patio is DOG FRIENDLY!! We ordered two breakfast dishes, both were advertised in the menu as coming with baguettes, but instead of baguettes, the meals came with 4 slices cut from a baguette. We also ordered coffee, which we took with us from the cashier station to our table. I realized we didn't have spoons with which to stir cream and sugar, nor any napkins. Upon asking at the cashier station for napkins, I was told, "They are over there.", presumably across the restaurant floor someplace. When I asked for spoons, I was told that utensils would come with the meal. I said I wanted 2 spoons for the coffee, and was then handed 2 soup spoons. The half dozen slices of potatoes that came with the breakfasts were obviously taken from the refrigerator and "nuked" for a few seconds, leaving some literally refrigerator cold and others luke warm. read more

Came un at 3:50pm today. There was a fly on a pastry inside where they keep them for display and purchase. I told the girl who was nice but just removed the one pastry. Stayed here for 30 min. And she did not remove all the pastries. I understand it's a loss of money but isn't worse to serve people food with the fly who sat on all the pastries. What if it put eggs on them gross. Proper training would be nice to see here because that made me not order anything. I only ordered a soda. Place is absolutely beautiful but for my first time at this location it was not the greatest. Wish she removed all the pastries and she didn't even apologize. I wasn't rude about it I was telling her so other people wouldn't see. Well probably won't come back.
