Went there last night for dinner with the wife and my two nephews. The place was nice and clean. The service was fast. They were open til 9 pm on a Sunday which is unusual for Lodi. The food tastes great. We forgot to request "no MSG", which they will do, but only if requested. As such, I ate too much and feel a little worse for wear today... The price was a kinda high for a dinner for four, but we added some extras that made our bill higher than I would have liked, but not too out of the ordinary price range for decent Chinese. We will have to go back and try their lunch specials which seems to be priced fairly reasonably. read more

When we moved to Lodi, California 5 years ago after 40+ years in Arizona, we were strangers in a strange land. We didn't know the towns, roads and freeways, or the best places to eat in our new environment. Fortunately, my sister had lived here for 20 years, and was a huge help in getting adjusted. We knew we could trust her to guide us to the best eating places. We weren't here a week when we began craving some great Asian food. Who ya gonna call? My sister, AudI Lee, of course! Without hesitation, she directed us to her favorite Chinese restaurant, Yen Ching - and they delivered. Perfect! We ordered our favorite dishes, Orange Chicken with Chow Mein for my husband, and Curry Chicken with fried rice for me.The food arrived faster than expected and if the aroma was any indication, this was going to be our new go-to place for Chinese cuisine. The food was every bit as good as our favorite place "back home", and we devoured the generous portions without any leftovers to spare. We had that feeling of home sweet home. It was the start of a great relationship with the restaurant, the personable delivery driver and ourselves and we have never had a need to go anywhere else. The food here is not bad, not the best though. The service, however is terrible. My friend & I drank our waters almost immediately upon arrival & were never asked about refills. I also found a hair in my chicken which was far from appetizing & the waiter was not very personable & did not show much concern over this other than offering us a new order, which I decided not to take since we were nearly done eating anyways. This place never disappoints! I highly recommend their steamed fish w/ ginger and scallions, as well as their vegetarian options. Im happy customer every time I order here. Delivery is always either on time or early, also. read more

We ordered the Yen Ching dinner for four and chow mein. The portions are just enough to feed four hungry people and the protein content was skimpy. All the dishes were bland and the soup stock was little more than water. The spicy prawn and Mongolian beef were barely spicy. At least it was mostly cooked to order. How about adding all those special Chinese herbs and spices? Oh I almost forgot, they didn't give my the garlic chicken with my order! Will not be returning. read more

What happened Red Doors? Last visit service was ok. Food was ok. Beef broccoli tasted rubbery and old. You have to ask for sweet and sour sauce for your egg roll, where as before it was always served. Water tasted like sink water. No one asked how our food was. My money can go somewhere else. read more

My husband and I live in Rio Vista, CA and only enjoyed Yen Ching orders to go until 9/12/13 when I decided to show him where all that great Chinese food was coming from. It was the nicest dining experience we have had in this area in 14 years. this is my third time ordering from Yen Ching and my second review. i don't write many, but when the situation warrants one i do it right away. again - customer service was friendly and helpful over the phone (even though i called back after my initial order to make a substitution request), food was delivered neatly packaged (including food with sauces double packaged in plastic wrap so the contents did not leak into the bag if they accidentally spilled during transit). delivery is always friendly and courteous - but especially wanted to mention that the delivery guy always puts a smile on my face and even knew that i mentioned i would be unavailable for about 10 minutes to the person who answered the phone. it's these little touches that make a normally impersonal experience of ordering food for delivery that make me feel special and appreciated as a customer - and that will keep me coming back again. almost forgot to mention this time: the food is SO good. fresh and delicious - i've ordered at different times of day each time and it always tastes like they made it to order; even when i let it sit for a little while before digging in. i'm surprised these guys don't have a higher overall rating; i know taste is relative, and also that only a very unhappy or extremely happy person generally takes the time to write a review... but if you want great chinese food, friendly and fast service, give these guys a shot and let yourself be the judge. i'm very picky and yet, i'm consistently impressed. PS: there is an way to order online (http://www.lodiyenching.com/) which is nice if you don't feel like talking to a live person but a couple of things to note: a live person WILL call you back to confirm your order (which is actually nice) and if you wanted to make a substitution that will result in a price difference, you have to do that via phone. the online system is not flexible enough to accommodate that type of real time price adjustment. i suggest just calling in your order to begin with since it's just as easy to do so. but if you have a huge order, it is kind of helpful to be able to fill out the online form and then place your order from the items in your cart over the phone vs. having to write everything down. read more

Yen Ching is my families go to chinese food restaurant in town. They always have friendly quick service. The food quality is hit or miss though. Theres been times we've ordered, and it was seriously the best chinese food we've ever had, and then times that we've ordered and the chow mein tastes mushy, old and greasy. I really like this place. The elaborate entrance and interior are hardly what I'd call cute but they give atmosphere and the service has been fine when I've been there, if not particularly friendly. My favorite lunch is the black mushrooms with chinese greens, which are bok choy as they should be with a tasty brown sauce that has garlic in it. The friend shrimps are good too. It's priced right and has a large menu. The lunch has a sort of hot and sour soup that has cabbage in it, a lackluster egg roll and big, flaky fried won ton that are better than normal. It has the same name as my favorite Chinese place in Berkeley from a few decades back, and I think Lodi's lucky to have it. I wish we did. read more

This place is AWESOME. Some people just don't know what they are talking about! Chow mein was great the noodles weren't to soft, they weren't greasy, walnut shrimp was cooked perfectly, sweet and sour pork was crisp but the meat was still tender and the sauce was tasty, the egg rolls were good as well. Service was fast, maybe not extra friendly but friendly enough. This is definitely our go to Chinese food place from now on! What's sad is we almost didn't go there because of the bad yelp reviews. read more

TERRIBLE!! The service is horrific! We had to wait forever to just get someone to notice we were seated and waiting for our drinks. The food was also not that great. I ordered delivery from them on another occasion. They called me back 30 minutes later saying I live too far and that they only deliver 2 to 3 miles from their location. I live 4.4 miles (10 minutes) away. I will never go there again! read more

Dropped by Yen Ching's with a couple of buddies the other day. I had read the other reviews and yes, it seems that the priority is not the customer service. Our server was nice enough and would come around ever once in a while and it just seemed that she was the only one on duty, but I have to say that the garlic calamari was wonderful, tender, not chewy with tons of flavor. The salt and pepper pork chops were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside and really good and the shrimp fried rice was great...But how do you mess that up? Maybe I just don't expect incredible service or something, but I tend not to notice mediocre service. I notice when the service is bad and I really notice when it IS good and make sure that they receive a better than normal tip for it, but the in between is just what it is and I just notice how good the food is because that's why I'm there, for the food. I'd go back again and I don't care about the typical service as long as the food coming out of the kitchen is great. read more

We drive from Stockton to pick up Chinese food from here. We love their egg fu young, chicken chow mein, Northern deluxe vegetables and their sweet and sour pork. We used to go to multiple places in Stockton to find good Chinese food but this is now our go to place. read more

The best in town and have been for years. Extensive menu and friendly service. Yen Cheng Prawns are my favorite.

never ate here before. exterior looked nice. menu was limited to the basics. nothing on the menu outside the take out box. service wasprompt. server was quiet did not offer too much insite. food came out pretty fast. was some arguing in the kitchen. food had no flavor and over use of msg. dishes were sparse for the price. would not eat here again nor recommend it. good luck if you do. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for awhile since i awhile's pass by it. I don't know if it was just that day, but when we came in the hostess & waitress were not very friendly. The food here was ok. The chow mein & beef and broccoli were good. However, the house chicken was mostly all bread & contained barely any chicken. Also, the kung pao chicken was chicken with mostly onions...very little peanuts or chili. The atmosphere was nice, but the staff needs to perk up more & not look so depressed as it darkens the dining experience. read more

I have gone here several times with family, including my own birthday. Food is generally very good. My favorite is the hot and sour soup. I ordered a large meal for pick up. I did notice they don't add soy sauce, plates or utensils. When I got home, I realized the soup was missing. I live far away so it was not practical to drive back. When I called they said they will only provide me with credit for next time. Even when I sit down in the restaurant, the waiter is sometimes really slow to take our order or even give me my check. This has occurred on multiple occasions even on days with the restaurant is nearly empty. I do enjoy the food but the service is bad enough that I stopped going there. read more

The owners work at this nicely kept restaurant. The food is always served steaming hot. The deep fried prawns are the best in the area, as are their pot-stickers. They have great lunch specials that are about $5 each and the food is plentiful. We are always getting a to-go box. Whether it be for lunch or dinner, this Chinese restaurant has it all. read more
