My family and I are such big fans of this Mexican restaurant. I'm super excited about the new location of this restaurant that will be opening up next door (to replace this location). Our waiter told us that the new restaurant location will have a large outdoor area and a more modern look. I feel like you really can't go wrong with any of the menu items here. Their chips are non greasy, which cannot always be said about some of the other Mexican restaurant chips I've had. I've had their daily specials, and they have been wonderful. Last time I had their jalapeno enchiladas and that was an awesome dish with a big kick to it. I highly recommend trying their enchiladas if you come here since they serve different types of enchiladas for all taste preferences. Everything was either super bland or just... off in the seasoning department. For example, the chile relleno batter was oddly sweet and inside was a different cheese than I've had at any other Mexican restaurant. The enchilada wasn't entirely hot and lacked salt or any spices. The only thing I ate were the rice and beans (fine) and the taco (also fine.) My fiancé got a seafood dish and was really impressed, so he had a different experience. The sopapillas were tasty though my wife say they're supposed to be soft; I supposed they've caved in to Americanization here. I came here for pickup on May 5, 2020. I placed an order through Grubhub for pickup at 5:30. The order was paid for and confirmed by Grubhub with the restaurant. I arrived at 5:30 for pickup. The food was not ready. in fact, 35 people were waiting outside in masks for their takeout orders. There was no system or line or anything resembling the business having any idea what it was doing to handle orders they had taken. I was told multiple times that my order was being prepared as I kept waiting and waiting but that the kitchen was behind. People were waiting for hours, some left with no food and everyone was perplexed why things were so behind. In a conversation with one staffer, a Yerba owner decided to take orders on a 2nd line backing up the kitchen. Finally after 2.5 hours I got my food. It was great as the food usually is here. However the experience was the worst food pickup experience in my life and I'd be ready to wait for awhile if you order from them during this ongoing pandemic. Hemisphere was pretty cozy and I was greeted immediately. The waitress attentive and kind. She recommended the tortilla soup was combination and I could not be happier. It's unlike Any dish I have ever had before. Perfect for people on a low-carb diet (which I am not), this dish consists of a cut up in spiced chicken breast that's swimming and savory juices and avocado. Small but classy surroundings... atmosphere not heavy on the Mexican but is pleasing and adds to the vibe of the great freshly prepared food. Expect some twists on your typical Mexican but you will love every bite no matter your selection. Always a fav with us with kids or without. We have taken our older grandkids - 7-13 and they all found something to enjoy including the one who is dairy free. The waitress was very patient with helping her make a choice. I find their prices to be more reasonable (as they should be) and it was good. I ordered a mashed potato enchilada and a regular with their rancheras sauce which was excellent. The sauce was my favorite thing! My meal was around $8-$9 and came with beans and rice (and free chips/salsa). The beans, while not refried, are vegetarian, as is the rice. It's made with vegetable stock. Our server was quite knowledgeable and attentive. I thought they were great and I was thrilled that being a veggie, I could partake. The chips and salsa are just mediocre to me. This might be strange, but I think the restaurant should consider giving out less salsa. I know, weird. But the bowl is huge compared to most places. Like for 4 people, the big bowl is okay, but for 2 people, it went almost untouched. Actually, I think we ate a total of 3 chips. Perhaps they should ask if you want complimentary chips and salsa? More a suggestion for the restaurant because people tend to eat less at lunch time. Normally I'm all for the freebies, but don't like that they had to throw out our entire bowl of chips and salsa when we left. For the most part, I think the flavor is the best in the area. Service was great, our server (Assantia?) was delightful. Complimentary chips and mild salsa are provided per table! I ordered Carne Asada, my steak was flavorful, cooked medium as requested and still juicy. Came with rice, fresh guacamole, beans/cheese and salsa. Dad had Alambra(?) chicken & chorizo frijoles in a delicious sauce with strips of green peppers and onion, side of beans, salsa and guacamole. He loved it. The manager came by twice to check on us. They said they were shutting things down even though the lights were on and three or four employees still were milling about inside. As a Lisle native, I have frequented the former Yerbabuena location (next door) for years. It was amazing- authentic, fresh, food and strong drinks made with real fruit. New Yerbabuena, you epically fail. Don't get me wrong. The food is good. The drinks are okay. But it's not what it was and it's not good enough. Having spent almost 2 decades in the food industry, your red flag should start flying when your food comes out about 2 minutes behind the "tableside" guac. (Note: it was not made tableside and it was horribly bland. We drained almost an entire lime and an unhealthy dose of salt into that baby to fix it.) Big fat clue that it's not made to order and you know it's not fresh. And it was true here. Are there new owners or did they just completely sacrifice quality when they opened the bigger location next door? If you're craving some quality Mexican and are too proud to crawl into El Mex, enjoy your time here. But be prepared to have a few gripes. read more

I don't live close to Yerba, but I will go out of my way for their incredible food and innovative menu items. They're not just a traditional Mexican restaurant, they also invent some wonderful cuisine! I am the type of person who loves to order "the usual" when I go places, but I find myself encouraged to try different concoctions when I visit. I am never disappointed. The atmosphere is fun, and the upstairs has a nice ambience, as well as a beautiful outside patio facing the street of downtown. THE BEST PART of all of this, is that I eat low carb, and sometimes it can be difficult eating out but Yerbabuena is amazing at accommodating my eating habits! I can go out to dine, eat well, and STILL be on track! I greatly appreciate that. The staff is wonderful, kind, patient, and friendly. She just said they are all plain margaritas, when obviously they are not. The service was poor, Olga didn't even asked us how's our food, didn't even check the whole time.
