A friend and I stopped by Yerevan on Sunday morning, and I'm so glad we did. I adored it. Yerevan is an Armenian cafe but calling it just a cafe seems limiting! Yes, it opens daily at 10 am for breakfast, pastries, and coffee. They're also open for lunch and dinner (they close at 8/9 pm depending on the day). And they offer happy hour from 3-6 pm Monday through Friday. And they host events celebrating Armenian culture: monthly free wine tastings, book signings, art exhibitions, and other events. It's a special place, and Adams Morgan residents are so lucky to have it. But back to our experience yesterday. We ordered a couple of coffees (both were great) and shared a couple of dishes from their menu. Lahmajun is a dough rolled thin and topped with minced beef. Yerevan's was served with a lemon wedge and Armenian pepper paste, and together with the lemon and pepper paste, it was absolutely delicious. The dough was so thin and the meat topping well seasoned. It's a dish I love, and Yerevan's version was absolutely no exception. We also ordered a Zhingyalov Hats (a flatbread stuffed with herbs and greens and served with a side of labneh). I've only had Zhingyalov Hats one other time and loved it then. I loved Yerevan's, too. It's so simple and yet so incredibly flavorful. A great vegetarian dish. Their menu offers so much more than these dishes (although I heartily recommend these two classics): soujuk pie, dolma, a basturma wrap, lentil kufte, and several sweet pastries. Based on the Lahmajun and the Zhingyalov Hats, I would eat anything else on their menu (and plan to come back and try to). In addition to the great food and very good coffees, the service was outstanding, too - very friendly and helpful. The cafe is comfortable and casual, but very charming - with lots of Armenian touches (and art) throughout. Yerevan is exactly the kind of place I love. Great food - including dishes that aren't very easy to find in the area - clearly made with love. Excellent service. Yerevan is wonderful - a great place to enjoy a meal or a snack or a coffee or a glass of Armenian wine. A great place to enjoy with family or friends. A great place to enjoy solo - come with a book or your work. I just adored it. I look forward to returning.

The Brown Sugar Clove Latte is a great drink to start your day. I would come here again with a friend or business colleague.

Washington D.C. is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to visit and I was lucky enough to visit in mid-September. The weather was perfect, but I needed my coffee fix in order to properly go sightseeing. My coffee shop stop in D.C. is Yerevan. Their Armenian coffee is bold, but doesn't have the bitter aftertaste that usually keeps me away from Armenian style espressos. The other highlight for me was their take on the trendy Dubai chocolate. Their Dubai chocolate latte stood out to me because of they managed to achieve a sweetness level that doesn't drown out every other flavor. You can still taste the coffee and the sweetness complements the drink instead of overpowering it. Overall it's a great little cafe that is worth trying out if you are in the area.

This feels unfortunate to write because I've wanted to try this place for the longest time! This matcha just tasted like milk. I ordered it with rose syrup and soy mylk but all I tasted was the soy milk. I should have looked it up then I wouldn't have ordered the matcha. I do want to emphasize that I still want to come back to give their coffee and food a shot. It's a very cute place and the barista was so welcoming! I also want to note we came during a weekend with so many events going on in AdMo and I only saw one barista, they were so efficient and sweet. So I'll be back to try more but never for the matcha!

One of my favorite coffee shops in DC!! Tucked away in the outskirts of Adams Morgan, Yerevan may not look like much from the outside, but this hidden gem is an absolute delight. The staff is all super friendly, and they have the most incredible selection of pastries, coffee, and tea. I have probably tried half of their pastry case, and I continue to be impressed with each and every item. I absolutely adore their homestyle baklava -- the phyllo dough is perfectly crispy and soaks up the honey and nut mixture beautifully, and the dessert is simultaneously decadent and not overly sweet. The honey nugget is a great little sweet bite, and is the perfect gluten-free treat or small pick-me-up, and the honey cake is absolutely incredible. It's a smidge overly sweet (as the main flavor is, as the name implies, honey), but it still manages to be amazing. Beyond their lovely sweets, their drinks are incredible. They have one of my favorite matcha lattes in DC, as well as a matcha rose latte that is perfect when you're looking for a hint of spring. Their coffee is also wonderful, with a great nutty aroma and deep, robust flavor. It's also served in the cutest little Armenian mugs, which really adds to the overall experience. The space is shockingly large, with 4-5 larger tables and a couple 2-person tables, all beautifully arranged with cute little flower pots and throw pillows. They even have a small stack of books and board games if you get bored of yapping and need something else to keep you entertained. It's the perfect, cozy little spot to either read, work, or catch up with friends.

This is a delightful cafe tucked in the Adams Morgan area. I love that it champions the regional specificity of being an Armenian cafe. It allows for its pastry case and drinks to have a unique profile that evokes flavors we wouldn't normally get out of a standard cafe. It's so dazzling to see the variety of sweets they have, and there are other things to purchase sprinkled throughout the cafe to peruse. There was ample seating, but the cafe itself is very intimate. Some signage at the cafe points that they host some community tasting workshops and that sounds like so much fun! My barista was quick to make my drink and very friendly and explanatory of the menu. I would stick to the drinks that are unique to the restaurant and coffees because it's just what they are best at making. Had a matcha latte order, and the color was closer to that of milk then matcha, but I think I ordered the wrong item to make a fair assessment. Deserves a revisit on my part, hehe!

Cute cafe with a wide selection of food and drinks! Check out the fridges that have other beverages, cured meats, dairy products etc. We picked up the Ayran yogurt drink which was a refreshing tangy and salty yogurt drink! The rose latte was good and not too sweet :)

It was my first time going to an Armenian place, and I was pleasantly surprised. The honey cake was to die for it's layered and sweet, but not in an overly intimidating way. I also like the soujuk pie. I would say the lahmajun was too small of a portion for me. Generally, their portion sizes tend to be on the smaller side. They also sell various items in the café, and I think those might be interesting to look at.

Found this little gem while searching for a spot to catch up with an old friend. It was a delight to find a taste of home only a block from my Adams Morgan hostel. The Armenian coffee was delicious and authentic, and it was funny to watch my friend's reaction when he tried a sip of mine! He opted for the hot cocoa and really enjoyed it. It was nice to sit in the cafe and hear Farsi, Russian, and Armenian. It is clearly a family business and the barista and staff made us feel so welcome. It was wonderful to share part of my culture with a friend in his own city :) A peaceful afternoon escape!

This place is overlooked! I walked in and immediately felt like I had stepped into a cafe in Yerevan, Armenia. The menu is authentic and I enjoyed the lahmajoun, eech, and zhngalov hats. I also ordered traditional Armenian coffee and thought it was delicious. The music was the perfect complement to the space - it's a traditional Armenian singer with classic tracks. The staff and waitress were very friendly and I can't wait to go back.

Our water glasses were rarely empty. Service was kind. Food wise if I were to stack rank I would say the hummus is the best of what we ordered. The pita bread is thick and garlicky and oily and massive. The croquettes would be at the bottom of my list simply because they're dissimilar from any I've had before and a little bit underwhelming. The tuna was fresh but it's a small dish and not much to write home about. The lamb skewers have a subtle kick to them and they're pretty substantial. I'll definitely be back to try more! First, a friend made a reservation at least a week in advance for a table of three. We all got there on time, if not a few minutes early. The hostess then told us there was not a table ready for us, and worse, was unable to give us a time estimate on when a table would open up because "we do not time our tables." So what is the point of making a reservation? Hilariously he said we can wait for a table outside instead, but they Won't be turning on the heaters. Happy to know they want us cold and hungry. We ended up waiting by the bar area, which was uncomfortably packed, for a drink while a table opened up. The bartender there was nice and respectful! Eventually, after waiting for some time we got a table inside. It was quite loud in the main room. There were three separate birthday parties. We were glad to start ordering. We ordered the oyster mushrooms, patatas bravas, chicken thighs, seafood paella, and the pork belly. The pork belly had to be comped because they forgot about it until I reminded them over an hour into the dinner. To note, all of the food was lukewarm/cold with the exception of the pork belly because they forgot about it and it was prepared late. Even the paella, which is served on a cast iron, so it has the optics of being piping hot, was actually just warm. The rice felt a little hard. The mushrooms had too much breading in each bite. I enjoyed the green sauce in the chicken. A runner asked if we wanted complimentary bread with our green sauce, which we responded positively towards. But soon after another runner picked up the plate with the sauce and swooped it away. Then the first runner came back with the bread right after, noticeably confused by the lack of sauce. It felt comedic. I enjoyed the wine and the pork belly most. Truly unforgettable service.

There is something very special that goes into tapas because its suppose to satisfy you based on good taste over quantity. Large shrimp in a generous skillet of olive oil and slow cooked garlic slices and a iberico mac and cheese are some examples of how they elevate classics we are familiar with. We really liked that they learned into garlic and spice. We found dried Aji Caballero in our meal, great attention to source country. They have a very robust and generous drinks menu. Loved watching others not dining alone and embracing that share quality of the menu design. Perhaps it is not the best tapas I had, I would have liked to see a balance with lighter citrus flavors but maybe that was an ordering issue. The crystal chandeliers shimmer, the furnishings are top notch, fancy even. The atmosphere could not be better. Likewise the food shines. Each dish outshone the one before. We started with the oxtail croquettes and they set the standard very high. The meat was luscious, luxurious even; the crust was perfectly crispy and crunchy. Then on to the she-crab soup. OMG it was to die for. The flavor was intense, like a crab bomb exploded in our mouths. We scraped the sides of the little bowls to get every drop. Our main dish was the beef tenderloin Rossini and this was easily among the best steaks I have ever had. Cutting the steak was easy because it was so tender. And the seared foie gras on top made it heavenly. So, to keep with my opening concept, the atmosphere of the dining room and the quality of the food were "the best of times." What was "the worst of times?" The service. It is hard to imagine food this good coming from a staff that is so unprofessional, uninspired, uninterested, unfocused. The staff - all of them - seemingly had no interest in providing top notch service. We waited to be approached. We waited for our drinks. We waited for our food; indeed, one of our courses never arrived. Never have I had such great food and such bad service all at the same time. Ronny was our waiter and, to be honest, he was not good. But everyone who we interacted with was bad so, I can only conclude, that this terrible service is what Jose Andres intended. And all of this at a meal that is VERY expensive. My spouse and I talked about the pricing. When you dine out, are you paying for the food only, or for the food and the service? The answer, of course, is that you are paying for both. So, while I do NOT mind paying a lot for a meal, I do want and expect that the food and the service will be somewhat equivalent to the price I have paid. At Bazaar Meat, that did not happen. Maybe the service lacked polish and professionalism because of the 20% tip that was automatically added onto the bill. They did not have to work hard for a tip since it was automatic. Sure, you could decrease the tip - it even said that at the bottom of the credit card slip. But would you ever do that? Not likely. So, that is my "A Tale of Two Cities" review of Bazaar Meat. Food and atmosphere, GREAT! Service, TERRIBLE! Do I recommend Bazaar Meat? No. Will I return? No.

We had a reservation to make sure we got a table, and the restaurant was completely full when we arrived. The only downside was that after being seated outside, we felt a little forgotten for the first 30 minutes or so. No one came by with water or to check in, and it seemed like the staff may not have realized a new table had been seated until we flagged down the outside host. There were also swarm of flies hovering around the outdoor tables, which another table pointed out and then we started noticing too. Aside from that, the experience was good overall. The inside dining area definitely had a dressier vibe compared to the patio seating, and once we were helped, the food made up for the slow start.

Uber Eats lacked description for Zaytinya's food items (such as the ounces of the drinks) and some items (such as the horta salata) were not as pictured. There were no extra napkins in our bag. The Coke came in bottles but we didn't receive any bottle openers. To top it off, we had three food items missing. I called the restaurant again to let them know about the missing food - they were unapologetic and didn't know what the proper protocol was to fix the situation. The service was subpar and the servings were small. Won't be back. The next day we had food delivered from another local restaurant where both the food and service were outstanding, unlike at Zaytinya. UPDATE: After writing the Yelp review, a general manager at Zaytinya emailed me the following: "..."The restaurant normally offers takeout, but the location was actually closed that day for a private event. However, since the order had come through, we tried to honor it. The mujadara and 2 orders of rice were missing because we hadn't prepped those items, as they were not offered for the buyout..." The restaurant knew on Friday what I was ordering for Tuesday. They had plenty of time to reach out to me and tell me they would be closed and wouldn't be able to fulfill the order. Instead, they knowingly sent out an order without all of the food for our group and charged as if we received everything. This shows a lack of professionalism and is disrespectful.
