If you are just looking to have a meal, you will probably be fine since the food is decent. However, if you are thinking of having any type of event here, I would urge you to reconsider. My mother passed away in Florida, but lived in NJ for most of her life. For this reason, we decided to have a second set of funeral services in Florida 5 weeks after her death. A friend of mine contacted Yesterday's to inquire about holding a repast there. I called to book it and was given a price that was $3 per person more than what my friend had been told, but I decided to go with it since the location was convenient and they seemed to be able to accommodate what we would need. As with any repast, it is impossible to get a headcount in advance, but I told Joe that we were expecting approximately 100 people. He said that we would need to have a minimum of 60, but that we would pay per person after that and that he could fit 100 in the large room. A week before the repast, I met with Joe at Yesterday's to look at the room. He was very nice. He showed me the large room where the repast would be and he told me that it would be no problem to hook up an iPod to play our playlist. I asked him if we should bring a microphone so that people could make speeches, but he told us that they would provide one. He reminded me again that we would need to have a minimum of 60 people, but that he would set the room up for more since I was anticipating 100 and he said that he could add more chairs or tables to the room if necessary. When I arrived at Yesterday's after the funeral mass, I was very surprised and upset to see that we had been set up in the small room which only seats 60. Joe said that there had been a baby shower booked for the other room and he wasn't sure what had happened. He said that this room should be okay since it had a max of 60. I reminded him that we were having a minimum of 60 and that we had discussed setting the large room up for 100 a month prior and again a week prior when I had visited. He again said that he was not sure what had happened and said that the rest of our party could sit in the main dining area, separate from the other guests. I was very upset. I asked if we would still be able to have our playlist play or use a microphone. He said that the smaller room could not accommodate these things, which was very disappointing since we now needed a microphone more than ever since our party had been split into different areas and we could have brought one of our own if we had known that none of the promises that were made to us would be kept. At this point, I had the displeasure of meeting Marie, who was rude to me and my guests from the start. I asked her when the other event had been booked since I had booked the repast a month prior and had been there the previous week to look at the large room. She said that the repast must have been booked only a few days ago. I explained that the death had occurred 5 weeks prior and the repast had been booked a month ago. She repeatedly said, "I don't know what to tell you." I told her that there would need to be a change in the pricing due to the fact that we were not getting what we had originally agreed to pay for and she laughed in my face. After the guests had left and it was time to pay, she stated that she would give us $1 off per person. We ended up having 96 people, so nearly half of our party was seated in the other room. I asked her if she thought that that $1 off was the right thing to do considering that we were put in the wrong room and not given the accommodations we had been assured of. When people made speeches, they had to scream to be heard. She sarcastically said, "Well, what do you want, you want it to be free?" I explained to her that this day was hard enough as it was my mother's funeral, but that she had somehow managed to make it worse. She continued to be rude until Joe came over and she stepped away. The way that Marie behaved is not what would be expected of any adult, much less one in a professional environment. There is a special place in hell for Marie and I truly feel sorry for anyone else that has to cross paths with her. read more
